Abstract

This paper describes approaches and results for shared Task 1 and 4 of SMMH4-23 by Team Shayona. Shared Task-1 was binary classification of english tweets self-reporting a COVID-19 diagnosis, and Shared Task-4 was Binary classification of English Reddit posts self-reporting a social anxiety disorder diagnosis. Our team has achieved the highest f1-score 0.94 in Task-1 among all participants. We have leveraged the Transformer model (BERT) in combination with the LightGBM model for both tasks.

Abstract

The Feedback Vertex Set problem is undoubtedly one of the most well-studied problems in Parameterized Complexity. In this problem, given an undirected graph $G$ and a non-negative integer $k$, the objective is to test whether there exists a subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ of size at most $k$ such that $G-S$ is a forest. After a long line of improvement, recently, Li and Nederlof [SODA, 2020] designed a randomized algorithm for the problem running in time $\mathcal{O}^{\star}(2.7^k)$. In the Parameterized Complexity literature, several problems around Feedback Vertex Set have been studied. Some of these include Independent Feedback Vertex Set (where the set $S$ should be an independent set in $G$), Almost Forest Deletion and Pseudoforest Deletion. In Pseudoforest Deletion, each connected component in $G-S$ has at most one cycle in it. However, in Almost Forest Deletion, the input is a graph $G$ and non-negative integers $k,\ell \in \mathbb{N}$, and the objective is to test whether there exists a vertex subset $S$ of size at most $k$, such that $G-S$ is $\ell$ edges away from a forest. In this paper, using the methodology of Li and Nederlof [SODA, 2020], we obtain the current fastest algorithms for all these problems. In particular we obtain following randomized algorithms. 1) Independent Feedback Vertex Set can be solved in time $\mathcal{O}^{\star}(2.7^k)$. 2) Pseudo Forest Deletion can be solved in time $\mathcal{O}^{\star}(2.85^k)$. 3) Almost Forest Deletion can be solved in $\mathcal{O}^{\star}(\min\{2.85^k \cdot 8.54^\ell,2.7^k \cdot 36.61^\ell,3^k \cdot 1.78^\ell\})$., Comment: ISAAC 2020, 36 pages. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1906.12298, arXiv:1103.0534 by other authors

Abstract

We consider the problem of protecting and manipulating elections by recounting and changing ballots, respectively. Our setting involves a plurality-based election held across multiple districts, and the problem formulations are based on the model proposed recently by~[Elkind et al, IJCAI 2019]. It turns out that both of the manipulation and protection problems are NP-complete even in fairly simple settings. We study these problems from a parameterized perspective with the goal of establishing a more detailed complexity landscape. The parameters we consider include the number of voters, and the budgets of the attacker and the defender. While we observe fixed-parameter tractability when parameterizing by number of voters, our main contribution is a demonstration of parameterized hardness when working with the budgets of the attacker and the defender.

Abstract

The role of social determinants of health (SDOH) in controlling hypertension (HTN) in cancer patients is unknown. We hypothesize that high SDOH scores correlate with uncontrolled HTN in hypertensive cancer patients. In our prospective study, patients completed the Protocol for Responding to & Assessing Patients' Assets, Risks & Experiences questionnaire. After integrating home and clinic blood pressure readings, uncontrolled HTN was defined as systolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 140 mm Hg and/or diastolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 90 mm Hg. Using Cox regression, we analyzed the impact of SDOH on HTN control, adjusting for relevant factors. The study involved 318 participants (median age 66.4, median follow-up 166 days, SDOH score 6.5 ± 3.2), with stress, educational insecurity, and social isolation as prevalent adverse SDOH. High SDOH scores led to 77% increased risk of uncontrolled HTN (adjusted hazards ratio = 1.77; 95% confidence interval = 1.10 to 2.83, P  = .018). Urban residents with high SDOH scores were at an even greater risk. Identifying SDOH and mitigating underlying factors may help control HTN, the most typical disease process treated in all cardio-oncology clinics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

23. Metastatic Non–Small-Cell Lung Cancer Presenting as Renal Failure From IgA Nephropathy.

Abstract

Studies have highlighted a potential link between malignancies and immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN). In such studies, the treatment of malignancy improved the symptoms of IgAN. Here, we report a patient case involving a history of hypertension, tobacco use disorder, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) presenting with hematuria with acute renal failure secondary to IgAN per renal biopsy. Prompted by this association, a malignancy workup was performed including computed tomography (CT) body imaging and biopsies of mediastinal and cervical lymph nodes which revealed a metastatic adenocarcinoma. Current knowledge includes a general mechanism behind the development of IgAN that points toward glomerular deposition of tumor-specific immunoglobulin A (IgA) immunoglobulins. However, the association of IgAN and malignancy has no definitive management guidelines. This clinical case serves as an important contribution in the hopes of future development of guidelines regarding the surveillance and management of IgAN in the setting of malignancy.
