Originally pioneered in adults, endoscopic endonasal approaches for skull base pathology are being increasingly applied as a minimally invasive alternative for young children. Intrinsic anatomic differences between these patient populations have sparked discussions on the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of these techniques in pediatric patients. This work aims to serve as a primer for clinicians engaged in the rapidly evolving field of pediatric endoscopic skull base surgery. A succinct overview of relevant embryology, sinonasal anatomy, and diagnostic workup is presented to emphasize key differences and unique technical considerations. Additional discussions regarding select skull base lesions, reconstructive paradigms, potential surgical complications, and postoperative care are also highlighted in the setting of multidisciplinary teams.

18. Numerical solutions of electromagnetic wave model of fractional derivative using class of finite difference scheme

In this article, a numerical scheme is introduced for solving the fractional partial differential equation (FPDE) arising from electromagnetic waves in dielectric media (EMWDM) by using an efficient class of finite difference methods. The numerical scheme is based on the Hermite formula. The Caputo's fractional derivatives in time are discretized by a finite difference scheme of order $\mathcal{O}(k^{(4-\alpha)})$ \& $\mathcal{O}(k^{(4-\beta)})$, $1<\beta <\alpha \leq 2$. The stability and the convergence analysis of the proposed methods are given by a procedure similar to the standard von Neumann stability analysis under mild conditions. Also for FPDE, accuracy of order $\mathcal{O}\left( k^{(4-\alpha)}+k^{(4-\beta)}+h^2\right) $ is investigated. Finally, several numerical experiments with different fractional-order derivatives are provided and compared with the exact solutions to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the scheme. The present article is devoting a numerical approach for solving a fractional partial differential equation (FPDE) arising from electromagnetic waves in dielectric media (EMWDM). The truncated Bernoulli and Hermite wavelets series with unknown coefficients have been used to approximate the solution in both the temporal and spatial variables. The basic idea for discretizing the FPDE is wavelet approximation based on the Bernoulli and Hermite wavelets operational matrices of integration and differentiation. The resulted system of a linear algebraic equation has been solved by the collocation method. Moreover, convergence and error analysis have been discussed. Finally, several numerical experiments with different fractional-order derivatives have been provided and compared with the exact analytical solutions to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the method., Comment: Convergence result is obvious. 20. Numerical and approximate solutions for two-dimensional hyperbolic telegraph equation via wavelet matrices

The present article is devoted to developing the Legendre wavelet operational matrix method (LWOMM) to find the numerical solution of two-dimensional hyperbolic telegraph equations (HTE) with appropriate initial time boundary space conditions. The Legendre wavelets series with unknown coefficients have been used for approximating the solution in both of the spatial and temporal variables. The basic idea for discretizing two-dimensional HTE is based on differentiation and integration of operational matrices. By implementing LWOMM on HTE, HTE is transformed into algebraic generalized Sylvester equation. Numerical experiments are provided to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the presented numerical scheme. Comparisons of numerical results associated with the proposed method with some of the existing numerical methods confirm that the method is easy, accurate and fast experimentally. Moreover, we have investigated the convergence analysis of multidimensional Legendre wavelet approximation. Finally, we have compared our result with the research article of Mittal and Bhatia (see [1])., Comment: 31 pages, 12 figures

A variety of genetic techniques have been devised to determine cell lineage relationships during tissue development. Some of these systems monitor cell lineages spatially and/or temporally without regard to gene expression by the cells, whereas others correlate gene expression with the lineage under study. The GAL4 Technique for Real-time and Clonal Expression (G-TRACE) system allows for rapid, fluorescent protein-based visualization of both current and past GAL4 expression patterns and is therefore amenable to genome-wide expression-based lineage screens. Here we describe the results from such a screen, performed by undergraduate students of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Undergraduate Research Consortium for Functional Genomics (URCFG) and high school summer scholars as part of a discovery-based education program. The results of the screen, which reveal novel expression-based lineage patterns within the brain, the imaginal disc epithelia, and the hematopoietic lymph gland, have been compiled into the G-TRACE Expression Database (GED), an online resource for use by the Drosophila research community. The impact of this discovery-based research experience on student learning gains was assessed independently and shown to be greater than that of similar programs conducted elsewhere. Furthermore, students participating in the URCFG showed considerably higher STEM retention rates than UCLA STEM students that did not participate in the URCFG, as well as STEM students nationwide.

Study Design: The study was a retrospective cross-sectional database analysis. Objective: Deoxycholic acid (DOC) injections are a novel, in-office procedural alternative to submental liposuction or submentoplasty to address excess submental fat. Post-market safety data regarding this treatment is currently limited. The objective of this study is to analyze adverse events reported in the Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience (MAUDE) database. Methods: The MAUDE database was queried for all reports related to adverse events involving deoxycholic acid using the search terms "KYBELLA" and "deoxycholic acid." Reports were individually reviewed by 2 reviewers and categorized with special attention to adverse events. Results: A total of 34 medical device reports were identified from the database query. Thirteen of these reports (21 total events) were included in the analysis after excluding duplicates, unrelated adverse events, or events associated with the off-label use of DOC. Reported adverse events include excessive swelling (n = 5, 24%), marginal mandibular nerve weakness (n = 4, 19%), unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome (n = 4, 19%), numbness (n = 3, 14%), dysphagia (n = 1, 5%), infection (n = 1, 5%), and skin necrosis (n = 3, 14%). Two patients required hospitalization for skin necrosis management; both had underlying systemic diseases. Conclusions: Adverse events following DOC injections included excessive swelling, dysphagia, numbness, infection, unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome, facial nerve weakness, and skin necrosis requiring hospitalization and/or surgery. Patient counseling regarding these adverse events should be discussed when offering DOC injections for submental convexity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solar thermal collectors, such as evacuated tube collectors (ETCs), are essential for harnessing renewable energy, yet their efficiency is often hindered by thermal losses and limited heat transfer. This study focuses on enhancing ETC performance for seawater desalination by using nanofluids as heat transfer fluids. These modifications aim to improve heat transfer rates, reduce thermal losses, increase the maximum temperature attainable, and minimize the collector area required. An experimental setup has been developed at Parul University in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. Key parameters such as air mass flow rate, inclination angle, water mass flow rate, nanofluid volume percentage, and screw conveyor speed were optimized to achieve ideal temperature levels. Results indicate that the optimal configuration for steam generation includes a high air mass flow rate and a 40° inclination angle for the ETC. Additionally, a water mass flow rate of 10 LPH and a screw conveyor speed of 30 rpm are crucial for optimal performance. Data collected showed the highest solar energy levels between 12 PM and 1 PM, which significant decreases post this peak period. These findings highlight the potential of nanomaterial‐based enhancements in improving the efficiency and cost‐effectiveness of solar thermal systems for renewable energy applications. The ongoing obesity epidemic has raised awareness of the complex physiology of adipose tissue. Abnormal adipocyte differentiation results in the development of systemic metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance and diabetes. The conjugation of NEDD8 (neural precursor cell expressed, developmentally downregulated 8) to target protein, termed neddylation, has been shown to mediate adipogenesis. However, much remains unknown about its role in adipogenesis. Here, we demonstrated that neddylation and its targets, the cullin (CUL) family members, are differentially regulated during mouse and human adipogenesis. Inhibition of neddylation by MLN4924 significantly reduced adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 and human stromal vascular cells. Deletion of NAE1, a subunit of the only NEDD8 E1 enzyme, suppressed neddylation and impaired adipogenesis. Neddylation deficiency did not affect mitotic cell expansion. Instead, it disrupted CREB/CEBPβ/PPARγ signaling, essential for adipogenesis. Interestingly, among the neddylation-targeted CUL family members, deletion of CUL3, but not CUL1, CUL2, or CUL4A, largely replicated the adipogenic defects observed with neddylation deficiency. A PPARγ agonist minimally rescued the adipogenic defects caused by the deletion of NAE1 and CUL3. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that neddylation and its targeted CUL3 are crucial for adipogenesis.
