Abstract

Indium bismuthide is a well-explored group III-V semi-metallic compound for IR technology applications. Here we report mechanical properties of this low band gap crystals using Zone melting method. The crystals of InBi1-xTex (x=0.05, 0.1, 0.15) were grown using Zone-melting method with 0.3cm/hr growth speed and 10 alternate zone passes. In the present work the microhardness of these crystals with the above said composition range has been investigated. The hardness has been studied with respect to applied load as well as of the composition of the crystal, at room temperature. InBi1-xTex (x=0.05, 0.1, 0.15) crystals exhibit impurity hardening as compared to the pure InBi crystal. Hardness tests were also performed on as-cleaved, cold-worked and annealed crystals. The impact of crystal perfection on microhardness has been studied and the detail results are reported. With increasing Te content, the hardness shows increasing trend. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

9. EVALUATION OF INSECTICIDES AGAINST LEPIDOPTERAN PESTS OF OKRA.

Abstract

Field experiment for the evaluation of insecticides was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, S D Agricultural University, Ladol during kharif 2018- 2020. Results revealed that least fruit damage caused by Earias vitella F (9.84%) and Helicoverpa armigera Hübner (12.86%) was observed with emamectin benzoate 5SG at 0.0025%. Emamectin benzoate 5SG at 0.0025% gave maximum fruit yield and incremental cost benefit ratio. The pesticide residue analysis with emamectin benzoate 5SG at 0.0025% showed that the residues were below limit at 5 days after the spray. Also, only below MRL residue (0.223 ppm) of spinosad 45SC at 0.0169% was observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background In collaboration with state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments, CDC established the U.S. Zika Pregnancy Registry (USZPR) in early 2016 to monitor pregnant women with laboratory evidence of possible recent Zika virus infection and their infants. Methods This report includes an analysis of completed pregnancies (which include live births and pregnancy losses, regardless of gestational age) in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia (DC) with laboratory evidence of possible recent Zika virus infection reported to the USZPR from January 15 to December 27, 2016. Birth defects potentially associated with Zika virus infection during pregnancy include brain abnormalities and/or microcephaly, eye abnormalities, other consequences of central nervous system dysfunction, and neural tube defects and other early brain malformations. Results During the analysis period, 1,297 pregnant women in 44 states were reported to the USZPR. Zika virus-associated birth defects were reported for 51 (5%) of the 972 fetuses/infants from completed pregnancies with laboratory evidence of possible recent Zika virus infection (95% confidence interval [CI] = 4%-7%); the proportion was higher when restricted to pregnancies with laboratory-confirmed Zika virus infection (24/250 completed pregnancies [10%, 95% CI = 7%-14%]). Birth defects were reported in 15% (95% CI = 8%-26%) of fetuses/infants of completed pregnancies with confirmed Zika virus infection in the first trimester. Among 895 liveborn infants from pregnancies with possible recent Zika virus infection, postnatal neuroimaging was reported for 221 (25%), and Zika virus testing of at least one infant specimen was reported for 585 (65%). Conclusions and implications for public health practice These findings highlight why pregnant women should avoid Zika virus exposure. Because the full clinical spectrum of congenital Zika virus infection is not yet known, all infants born to women with laboratory evidence of possible recent Zika virus infection during pregnancy should receive postnatal neuroimaging and Zika virus testing in addition to a comprehensive newborn physical exam and hearing screen. Identification and follow-up care of infants born to women with laboratory evidence of possible recent Zika virus infection during pregnancy and infants with possible congenital Zika virus infection can ensure that appropriate clinical services are available.

Abstract

For simultaneous analysis of Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride (CIP), phenazopyridine Hydrochoride (PHE), in its drugdose type, chemometric-assisted UV spectrophotometric methods have been established and validated. The chemometric methods used were partial least square (PLS) regression, principal component regression (PCR) and classical least square (CLS) models. Two sets of standard mixtures, calibration sets and validation sets have been prepared. All three models have been optimized to quantify each drug in the mixture using the information included in the UV absorption spectra of the appropriate solution in the range of 205-515 nm with the range of 5 nm. Optimized models have been successfully applied to the simultaneous estimation of these drugs in synthetic mixture and pharmaceutical dosage form. The methods were validated in linearity, precision, sensitivity, specificity and robustness in the range of 5-25μg / ml for CIP and 4-20μg / ml for PHE for spectrophotometric-assisted UV chemometrics as per the ICH guideline. Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Coastal Soil Salinity Research Station, Navsari Agricultural University, Danti-Umbharat, Navsari, Gujarat during rabi seasons of 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 to study the effect of organic manures and bio-fertilizer on growth and productivity of garlic. In total six treatment combinations comprising of three treatments of organics which were applied on nitrogen equivalent basis i.e., O1: 50% N through FYM as basal + 50% N through castor cake at 40 DAS, O2: 50% N through biocompost as basal + 50% N through castor cake at 40 DAS, O3: 50% N through vermicompost as basal + 50% N through castor cake at 40 DAS and two treatments of biofertilizer i.e., B1: with biofertilizer (PSB and Azotobacter) and B2: without biofertilizer were evaluated in factorial randomized block design with four replications. Application of recommended dose of N @ 100 kgha-1 of which 50% N through bio-compost as basal and remaining 50% N through castor cake at 40 DAS recorded significantly higher average bulb weight (11.98 g), bulb yield (7.9 tha-1) and lower weight loss after six months of storage (18.14%). Cloves inoculation with biofertilizers resulted in significantly higher plant height (59.07 cm) and average bulb weight (12.29 g). In case of interaction effect, application of recommended dose of N @ 100 kg/ha of which 50% N through bio-compost as basal and remaining 50% N through castor cake at 40 DAS along with bio-fertilizers recorded higher bulb yield (9.2 tha-1), gross return (₹ 3,66,174ha-1), net return (₹ 2,63,039ha-1) and BC ratio (2.55) followed by 50% N through vermicompost as basal + 50% N through castor cake at 40 DAS with bio-fertilizer.
