Abstract

The pathogenicity of the fungus, Metarhizium anisopliae, commonly referred to as the green muscardine fungus, has been demonstrated against numerous insect species inhabiting various habitats. Laboratory experiments were carried out to investigate the impact of naturally derived adjuvants on the growth and spore characteristics of M. anisopliae. The natural polysaccharide (guar gum, gum acacia and carboxymethyl cellulose), vegetable oil (groundnut and cottonseed oil) and a synthetic adjuvant were used in the study at three distinct concentrations: 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2% v/v or w/v. Among the various adjuvants tested, both gum acacia and guar gum at concentrations of 0.1% and 0.2% were observed to have a positive impact on the growth of the fungus, resulting in enhanced radial mycelial growth, conidiospore production, surface area coverage, and conidiospore germination. Conversely, this fundamental study highlights the detrimental effects of synthetic adjuvants on the growth and spore characteristics of M. anisopliae. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The current investigation analyse the impact of hydromagnetic squeeze film between non-porous rough triangular plates. The bearing surface are viewed transversely rough. The Christensen and Tonder model is embraced for transverse roughness. The concerned Reynolds type equations are solved with appropriate boundary conditions to get pressure distribution, which is used to get load carrying capacity. The outcomes are indicated graphically. The outcomes demonstrate that the magnetization parameter and conductivity increase load carrying capacity, while standard deviation decreases load carrying capacity. Further, the negative mean expands the load carrying capacity. So, appropriate values of magnetization parameter and conductivity improves the performance of bearing system by enhancing load carrying capacity. Abstract

Sodium dithionite has been effectively used in the reduction of steroidal ketones and enones with remarkable selectivity and high yields under phase transfer catalysis (PTC) conditions to give alcohols and ketones respectively. An application of these selectivities is demonstrated by reducing an important steroid intermediate 16-dehydropregnenolone acetate to pregnenolone acetate in very high yields.

Abstract

There are several lines of evidence clearly demonstrating that major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I antigens are important in protecting haemopoietic tumour cells from natural killer (NK)-mediated cell lysis. In the present studies we examined the role of MHC class II antigens in affording such protection to haemopoietic tumour cell lines. NK and lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) lysis were performed on two human B lymphoma cell lines and their mutants lacking HLA class II expression, i.e. DR, DP and DQ. Raji and T5-1 were compared to their mutants RM3 and 6.1.6, respectively. Significantly more lysis was observed with the mutants compared to the parent cell line. Effectors used included (1) peripheral blood NK effectors, (2) a human NK cell line (NK 3.3), and (3) peripheral blood LAK effectors. The increased lysis with the mutants could not be explained on the basis of (1) increased conjugate formation, (2) increased cell fragility or (3) ineffectual expression of HLA class I and other non-HLA antigens. These findings suggest that HLA class II molecules may have a novel role. They may be relevant not only in antigen presentation but may also protect tumour cells (and possibly normal activated lymphoid cells) against lysis mediated by NK and LAK cells.

Abstract

The squeeze film behavior in annular disks with a non Newtonian Ferro fluid in the presence of transverse magnetic fields is presented. By the application of Shliomis Ferro hydrodynamic model the modified Reynolds equation has been obtained. The graphical representations of the result suggests that the non Newtonian Ferro fluid lubricated squeeze film registers higher load carrying capacity in comparison with Newtonian non Ferro fluid cases.
