We investigate the gravitational effects on the relativistic Dirac theory of a system such as a Hydrogen atom in the braneworld scenario. A gravitational dipole moment like contribution, arises in the nonrelativistic Hamiltonian of the system through an exact Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation. This term violates the equivalence principle for the weak interaction that is restored in the average over the spins. Furthermore, it feels the effects of the extra dimensions, so that in a Universe with two additional spatial dimensions its energy contribution is amplified by an order of $\sim 10^{16}\ \text{eV}$ concerning to the energy of this term for ordinary space. The compactification radius for a Universe with two extra dimensions is within the experimental limits, where deviations from the inverse square law are being tested. This suggests that the energy value for the gravitational dipole term in this scenario may lead us to search for traces of extra dimensions in atomic spectroscopy, as well as experimental constraints for these dimensions., Comment: 11 pages, one table

In this paper, we analysis the dynamics, at the quantum level, of the self-dual field minimally coupled to bosons with Lorentz symmetry breaking. We quantize the model by applying the Dirac bracket canonical quantization procedure. In addition, we test the relativistic invariance of the model by computing the boson-boson elastic scattering amplitude. Therefore, we show that the Lorentz symmetry breaking has been restored at the quantum level. We finalize our analysis by computing the dual equivalence between the self-dual model with Lorentz symmetry breaking coupled with bosonic matter and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons with Lorentz invariance violation coupled with bosonic field., Comment: 10 pages

In this study, we consider the four-dimensional Maxwell electrodynamics extended with CPT-even Myers-Pospelov Lorentz-violating dimension-six operators to investigate the associated two-dimensional properties in the context of quantum vacuum fluctuation effects, namely, the Casimir effect. Upon projecting out the 4D theory down to a 2D theory we obtain analogs of these operators leading to a modified dispersion relation in a Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) scalar model equivalent to the electromagnetic theory. By making use of the modified dispersion relation, we derive exact analytic expressions for the Casimir energy and force induced by imposing Dirichlet boundary conditions on the scalar field. In this study, we explore the impact of an additional dimension, as proposed in Kaluza-Klein's theory, on the Casimir effect within the context of Lorentz invariance violation (LIV), which is represented by the ``aether field''. We demonstrate that the Casimir energy is directly influenced by the presence of the fifth dimension, as well as by the aether parameter. Consequently, the force between the plates is also subject to variations of these parameters. Furthermore, we examine constraints on both the size of the extra dimension and the aether field parameter based on experimental data. The LIV parameter can provide insights into addressing the size-related challenges in Kaluza-Klein's theory and offers a mean to establish an upper limit on the size of the extra dimension. In this paper, we consider the Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black hole to investigate the process of scalar wave scattering by the black hole in a spacetime of (d + 1) dimensions and also with the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). In this scenario, we analytically determine the phase shift and explore the effect of extra dimensions by calculating the differential scattering and absorption cross-section by applying the partial wave method at low and high-frequency limits. In this brief review, we will address acoustic black holes arising from quantum field theory in the Lorentz-violating and non-commutative background. Thus, we consider canonical acoustic black holes with effective metrics for the purpose of investigating Hawking radiation and entropy. We show that due to the generalized uncertainty principle and the modified dispersion relation, the Hawking temperature is regularized, that is, free from the singularity when the horizon radius goes to zero. In this paper we consider a BTZ black hole with minimum length which has been introduced through the probability density of the ground state of the hydrogen atom. In this paper, we investigate the process of massless scalar wave scattering due to a noncommutative black hole with a global monopole through the partial wave method. We computed the cross section of differential scattering and absorption at the low frequency limit. We also calculated, at the high frequency limit, the absorption and the shadow radius by the null geodesic method. We showed that noncommutativity causes a reduction in the differential scattering/absorption cross section and shadow radius, while the presence of the global monopole has the effect of increasing the value of such quantities. In this paper we determine the Hawking temperature and entropy of a modified canonical acoustic black hole. In our results we obtain an entropy-area relation that has a logarithmic correction term in leading order. We obtain an effective acoustic metric with quantum corrections that are provided by a minimum length implemented by the generalized Heisenberg uncertainty principle (GUP) in the Abelian Higgs model. The effective acoustic metric now depends on the contribution of scalar and vector potentials. We also explore the Hawking radiation and entropy by considering the effective canonical acoustic black hole and find that the modified Hawking temperature leads to logarithm corrections to the entropy. We consider quantum corrections for the Schwarzschild black hole metric by using the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to investigate quasinormal modes, shadow and their relationship in the eikonal limit. We calculate the quasinormal frequencies of the quantum-corrected Schwarzschild black hole by using the sixth-order Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation, and also perform a numerical analysis that confirms the results obtained from this approach. It is well known in the literature that vacuum fluctuations can induce a random motion of particles which is sometimes called quantum Brownian motion or quantum stochastic motion. In this paper, we consider Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) in an acoustic spatially flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) geometry. In particular, we are looking for the LIV effects in the stochastic motion of scalar and massive test particles. This motion is induced by a massless quantized scalar field on this geometry, which in turn is derived from an Abelian Higgs model with LIV. In this paper we investigate quasinormal modes (QNM) for a scalar field around a noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole. We verify the effect of noncommutativity on quasinormal frequencies by applying two procedures widely used in the literature. The first is the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation up to sixth order. In the second case we use the continuous fraction method developed by Leaver. Besides, we also show that due to noncommutativity, the shadow radius is reduced when we increase the noncommutative parameter. A model for an expanding noncommutative acoustic fluid analogous to a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker geometry is derived. For this purpose, a noncommutative Abelian Higgs model is considered in a (3+1)-dimensional spacetime. In this scenario, we analyze the motion of test particles in this fluid. The study considers a scalar test particle coupled to a quantized fluctuating massless scalar field. For all cases studied, we find corrections due to the noncommutativity in the mean squared velocity of the particles. We address the issue of radiative corrections to Kaluza-Klein (KK) masses in five-dimensional QED supplemented by aether Lorentz-violating terms. Specifically, we compute the corrections to the KK photon masses from one fermion loop. In general, the KK masses receive radiative corrections due to breaking the five-dimensional Lorentz invariance by compactification. As we show, the presence of the additional Lorentz violating factor - an aether background, leads to the non-trivial modification of these corrections. This model may be of interest in addressing important phenomenological issues such as the relation between radiative corrected KK mass splitting of a particular mode and uncertainties in the measurements and/or possible spatial variation of the fine-structure constant. For the recent data on the fine-structure constant, we find a KK mass splitting of magnitude $\sim 0.01$ MeV for the first excited Kaluza-Klein gauge boson at TeV scale. On the other hand, the large KK modes limit displays a very interesting phenomenon, showing the very special role of the aether in protecting the higher modes from the quantum corrections., Comment: 13 pages, 3 diagrams

We here propose to model active and cumulative cases data from COVID-19 by a continuous effective model based on a modified diffusion equation under Lifshitz scaling with a dynamic diffusion coefficient. The proposed model is rich enough to capture different aspects of a complex virus diffusion as humanity has been recently facing. The model being continuous it is bound to be solved analytically and/or numerically. So, we investigate two possible models where the diffusion coefficient associated with possible types of contamination are captured by some specific profiles. The active cases curves here derived were able to successfully describe the pandemic behavior of Germany and Spain. Moreover, we also predict some scenarios for the evolution of COVID-19 in Brazil. Furthermore, we depicted the cumulative cases curves of COVID-19, reproducing the spreading of the pandemic between the cities of S\~ao Paulo and S\~ao Jos\'e dos Campos, Brazil. The scenarios also unveil how the lockdown measures can flatten the contamination curves. In this work, we consider the Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz scaling to rewrite higher-order derivatives in Lorentz-violating CPT-even electrodynamics. The possibility of the Lorentz invariance violation being originally suppressed by the quantum gravity energy scale $M_{\rm QG}$, may be indeed circumvented in a scenario with anisotropy between space and time above certain intermediate energy scale $\Lambda_{\rm HL} \ll M_{\rm QG}$. To test the model, we have used observational results of a cosmological time delay between high and low energy photons from gamma ray bursts (GRB090510) event. For specific values of the Lifshitz critical exponent, we have found interesting lower bounds on the values of $M_{\rm QG}$.

In this paper we aim to investigate the process of massless scalar wave scattering due to a self-dual black hole through the partial wave method. We calculate the phase shift analytically at the low energy limit and we show that the dominant term of the differential cross section at the small angle limit is modified by the presence of parameters related to the polymeric function and minimum area of a self-dual black hole. We also find that the result for the absorption cross section is given by the event horizon area of the self-dual black hole at the low frequency limit. We also show that, contrarily to the case of a Schwarzschild black hole, the differential scattering/absorption cross section of a self-dual black hole is nonzero at the zero mass limit. Based on the motivation that some quantum gravity theories predicts the Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) around Planck-scale energy levels, this paper proposes a new formalism that addresses the possible effects of LIV in the electrodynamics. This formalism is capable of changing the usual electrodynamics through high derivative arbitrary mass dimension terms that includes a constant background field controlling the intensity of LIV in the models, producing modifications in the dispersion relations in a manner that is similar to the Myers-Pospelov approach. With this framework, it was possible to generate a CPT-even and CPT-odd generalized modifications of the electrodynamics in order to study the stability and causality of these theories considering the isotropic case for the background field. An additional analysis of unitarity at tree level was considered by studying the saturated propagators. After this analysis, we conclude that, while CPT-even modifications always preserves the stability, causality and unitarity in the boundaries of the effective field theory and therefore may be good candidates for field theories with interactions, the CPT-odd one violates causality and unitarity. In this paper we focus on the partial wave method with the aim of exploring the scattering of massless scalar waves due to the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole via Lorentzian smeared mass distribution. We determine the phase shift analytically in low-frequency limit and we show that the scattering and absorption cross section is modified. Specially, we show that in the low-frequency limit the scattering/absorption cross section has its value decreased when we increase the value of the non-commutativity parameter. In addition, we have confirmed this result by solving the problem numerically for arbitrary frequencies. In this paper we explore the effect of the generalized uncertainty principle and modified dispersion relation to compute Hawking radiation from a rotating acoustic black hole in the tunneling formalism by using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation applied to the Hamilton-Jacobi method. The starting point is to consider the planar acoustic black hole metric found in a Lorentz-violating Abelian Higgs model. In our analyzes we investigate quantum corrections for the Hawking temperature and entropy. A logarithmic correction and an extra term that depends on a conserved charge were obtained. In this paper we consider the acoustic metric obtained from an Abelian Higgs model extended with higher derivative terms in the bosonic sector which describes an acoustic rotating black hole and analyze the phenomena of superresonance, analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect and absorption. We investigate the breaking of Lorentz symmetry caused by the inclusion of an external four-vector via a Chern-Simons-like term in the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau Lagrangian for massless and massive spin-one fields. In this article we investigate the stability of quantized yrast (QY) states in a mixture of two distinguishable equal mass bosonic atoms, $A$ and $B$, confined in a ring. We focus our investigation in the study of the energetic stability since the Bloch analysis and the Bogoliubov theory establish that only energetically stable QY states are capable of sustain a persistent current. Based on physical considerations the stability is studied in two different two-dimensional planes. One is when we are studying the stability of a single QY state which is realized in the $U_{AB}\times U$ plane spanned by the inter and intraspecies interaction strengths with fixed values of angular momentum per particle $l$ and population imbalance $f$ equal to the labels of the QY state. We found that the energetic phase boundary is the positive branch of a hyperbola and the energetically stable domain the internal region of this positive branch. The other is when we are studying the stability at a fixed dynamics which is realized in the $l\times f$ plane spanned by $l$ and $f$ with fixed values of the interaction strengths. The QY states are introduced when we postulate a correspondence between points in sector of the $l\times f$ plane of physical significance (SPS), defined by $-\infty< l<\infty$ and $-1\leq f\leq 1$, and QY states. The stability diagram in the SPS is determined by the overlap of the stability diagram in all $l\times f$ plane and the SPS. We found that there are critical values of $f$ and $l$. $f_\mathrm{crit}(l)$ gives the size of the window of energetic stability in the sense that for a given $l$ only QY states with $0\leq fl_\mathrm{crit}$., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures

In this paper we investigate a possibility for the existence of an analog of the Quantum Hall Effect for neutral particles with a permanent magnetic moment $\mu$ in the presence of crossed inhomogeneous magnetic and electric fields. We predict the appearance of Hall conductivity $\sigma_H=(e^2/h)\nu (\mu)$ with the Landau filling factor $\nu (\mu)\propto \mu ^2$. In this work, we compute some phenomenological bounds for the electromagnetic and massive gravitational high-derivative extensions supposing that it is possible to have an astrophysical process that generates simultaneously gravitational and electromagnetic waves. We present Lorentz invariance violating (LIV) higher-order derivative models, following the Myers-Pospelov approach, to electrodynamics and massive gravitational waves. We compute the corrected equation of motion of these models, their dispersion relations and the velocities. The LIV parameters for the gravitational and electromagnetic sectors, $\xi_{g}$ and $\xi_{\gamma}$, respectively, were also obtained for three different approaches: luminal photons, time delay of flight and the difference of graviton and photon velocities. These LIV parameters depend on the mass scales where the LIV-terms become relevant, $M$ for the electromagnetic sector and $M_{1}$ for the gravitational one. We obtain, using the values for $M$ and $M_{1}$ found in the literature, that $\xi_{g}\sim10^{-2}$, which is expected to be phenomenologically relevant and $\xi_{\gamma}\sim10^{3}$, which cannot be suitable for an effective LIV theory. However, we show that $\xi_{\gamma}$ can be interesting in a phenomenological point of view if $M\gg M_{1}$. Finally the relation between the variation of the velocities of the photon and the graviton in relation to the speed of light was calculated and resulted in $\Delta v_{g}/\Delta v_{\gamma}\lesssim1.82\times 10^{-3}$., Comment: Latex, 10 pages, no figures. This paper shows a new approach to obtain analytical topological defects of a 2D Myers-Pospelov Lagrangian for two scalar fields. Such a Lagrangian presents higher-order kinetic terms, which lead us to equations of motion which are non-trivial to be integrated. Here we describe three possible scenarios for the equations of motion, named by timelike, spacelike and lightlike respectively. We started our investigation with a kink-like travelling wave Ansatz for the free theory, which led us to constraints for the dispersion relations of each scenario. We also introduced a procedure to obtain analytical solutions for the general theory in the three mentioned scenarios. We exemplified the procedure and discussed the behavior of the defect solutions carefully. It is remarkable that the methodology presented in this study led to analytical models, despite the complexity of the equations of motion derived from the 2D Myers-Pospelov Lagrangian. In this paper we consider the dynamics of a massive spinor field in the background of the acoustic black hole spacetime. Although this effective metric is acoustic and describes the propagation of sound waves, it can be considered as a toy model for the gravitational black hole. In this manner, we study the properties of the dynamics of the fermion field in this "gravitational" rotating black hole as well as the vortex background. We compute the differential cross section through the use of the partial wave approach and show that an effect similar to the gravitational Aharonov-Bohm effect occurs for the massive fermion field moving in this effective metric. In this paper we consider the metric of a 2+1-dimensional rotating acoustic black hole in the neo-Newtonian theory to compute the Hawking temperature and applying the quantum statistical method, we calculate the statistical entropy using a corrected state density due to the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). Properties of the yrast states of a system of $N$ bosons confined to a one-dimensional ring and interacting via contact forces is examined both variationally and by numerical diagonalizations. The latter allow for obtaining numerical correlated many-body wave functions explicitly. The study of correlation functions involving different yrast states indicates that a quantum phase transition previously detected in the properties of the ground state in the case of attractive two-body interactions is an yrast phenomenon involving the onset of `deformation', in the sense given to this term by Bohr and Mottelson in connection with the description of nuclear spectra, including enhanced transition operators and emergence of a shared intrinsic correlation structure. In this work we have used a Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz scaling to rewrite a Lorentz-violating higher-order derivative electrodynamics controlled by a background four-vector $n_{\mu}$. The photon propagator was obtained and we have analyzed the dispersion relation and the observational results of gamma-ray burst (GRB) experiments were used. The limits of the critical exponent were discussed in the light of the GRB data and the physical implications were compared with the current GRB-Lorentz-invariance-violation literature. We show that the bound for the Lorentz-violating coupling for dimension-six operators, obtained from a Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz scaling, is eight orders of magnitude better than the result found without considering a Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz scaling, also this bound is nearby one, which is expected to be relevant phenomenologically., Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, Latex; version to appear in PRD

In this paper we consider the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) in the tunneling formalism via Hamilton-Jacobi method to determine the quantum-corrected Hawking temperature and entropy for noncommutative BTZ black hole. In our results we obtain several types of corrections including the expected logarithmic correction to the area entropy associated with the noncommutative BTZ black holes. We also show that the area entropy product of the noncommutative BTZ black holes is dependent on mass and by analyzing the nature of the specific heat capacity we have observed that the noncommutative BTZ black hole is stable at some range of parameters., Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, to appear in General Relativity and Gravitation. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1504.06295, arXiv:1502.00179
