Radio interferometric observations of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) jets reveal the significant linear polarization of their synchrotron radiation that changes with frequency due to the Faraday rotation. It is generally assumed that such depolarization could be a powerful tool for studying the magnetized plasma in the vicinity of the jet. However, depolarization could also occur within the jet if the emitting and rotating plasma are co-spatial (i.e. the internal Faraday rotation). Burn obtained very simple dependence of the polarization on the wavelength squared for the discrete source and resolved slab that is widely used for interpreting the depolarization of AGN jets. However it ignores the influence of the non-uniform large scale magnetic field of the jet on the depolarization. Under the simple assumptions about the possible jet magnetic field structures we obtain the corresponding generalizations of Burn's relation widely used for galaxies analysis. The era of large language models (LLM) raises questions not only about how to train models, but also about how to evaluate them. Despite numerous existing benchmarks, insufficient attention is often given to creating assessments that test LLMs in a valid and reliable manner. To address this challenge, we accommodate the Evidence-centered design (ECD) methodology and propose a comprehensive approach to benchmark development based on rigorous psychometric principles. In this paper, we have made the first attempt to illustrate this approach by creating a new benchmark in the field of pedagogy and education, highlighting the limitations of existing benchmark development approach and taking into account the development of LLMs. We conclude that a new approach to benchmarking is required to match the growing complexity of AI applications in the educational context. We construct a novel benchmark guided by the Bloom's taxonomy and rigorously designed by a consortium of education experts trained in test development. Thus the current benchmark provides an academically robust and practical assessment tool tailored for LLMs, rather than human participants. Tested empirically on the GPT model in the Russian language, it evaluates model performance across varied task complexities, revealing critical gaps in current LLM capabilities. Our results indicate that while generative AI tools hold significant promise for education - potentially supporting tasks such as personalized tutoring, real-time feedback, and multilingual learning - their reliability as autonomous teachers' assistants right now remain rather limited, particularly in tasks requiring deeper cognitive engagement., Comment: 36 pages, 2 figures

The BL Lac Object PKS 1717+177 has been identified as potential neutrino-emitting AGN in the point source stacking analysis of IceCube data. We explore peculiarities in the morphology and kinematics of the jet and examine multi-wavelength light curves for distinctive effects which might allow to pinpoint a likely neutrino generation mechanism. We re-modeled 34 high resolution radio interferometric Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations obtained at 15 GHz (between 1999/12/27 and 2023/05/03). A correlation and periodicity analysis of optical KAIT and Tuorla data, as well as for Fermi-LAT $\gamma$-ray data has been performed. The nuclear jet appears deflected and bent at about 0.5 mas distance from the radio core by an encounter with a dark, unseen object. The deviation of the jet evolves over 23.5 years from a simple apparent bend into a significantly meandering structure with increasing amplitude: a zig-zag line. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the temporal evolution of a jet deviation can be traced. The turning point shifts with time and the jet seems to brighten up almost periodically at the point of deviation. The radio core as well as the jet contribute approximately equally to the total flux-density at 15 GHz. We discuss scenarios which could explain the complex jet bending and quasi-regular flaring. We propose that the jet could either be deflected by the magnetosphere of a second massive black hole, by the pressure gradient due to a circumnuclear dense cloud, or via gravitational lensing by an intervening black hole., Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures, in print in MNRAS

At present, there is no doubt that relativistic jets observed in active galactic nuclei pass from highly magnetized to weakly magnetized stage, which is observed as a break in the dependence on their width $d_{\rm jet}(z)$ on the distance $z$ to the central engine. In this paper, we discuss the possibility of observing another break, which should be located at shorter distances. The position of this break can be associated with the region of formation of the dense central core near the jet axis which was predicted both analytically and numerically more than a decade ago, but has not yet received sufficient attention. In this case, the observed width should be determined by the dense core, and not by the total transverse size of the jet. The calculations carried out in this paper, which took into account both the transverse electromagnetic structure of the jet and the change in the spectrum of emitting particles along its axis, indeed showed such behaviour. The latest results of the most detailed analysis of multi-epoch polarization-sensitive observations of active galactic nuclei (AGN) jets at parsecs scales by very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) reveal several characteristic patterns of linear polarization distribution and its variability (Pushkarev et al., 2023; Zobnina et al., 2023). Some of the observed profiles can be reproduced by a simple model of a jet threaded by a helical magnetic field. However, none of the models presented to date can explain the observed polarization profiles with an increase in its degree towards the edges of the jet, and accompanied by a 'fountain' type electric vector pattern and its high temporal variability in the center. Based on simulations of the VLBI observations of relativistic jets, we show here that the observed transverse linear polarization profiles, atypical for the simple magnetic field models can be naturally produced assuming the finite resolution of VLBI arrays and precession of a jet on ten-years scales, observational indications of which are found in an increasing number of AGN. In our simulations, we qualitatively reproduce the distribution of the electric vector and its variability, though the polarization images are characterized by a bright spine due to weak smearing, which is poorly consistent with observations. Broadband correlated photon pairs (biphotons) are valuable in quantum metrology, but current generation methods either involve complex nonlinear structures or lack sufficient bandwidth and brightness. In this work, we theoretically describe and experimentally demonstrate a novel technique for generation of a bright collinear biphoton field with a broad spectrum, achieved by using a tightly focused pump in a bulk nonlinear crystal. As the most straightforward application of the source, we employ Michelson interferometer-based quantum optical coherence tomography (QOCT). The Next Generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) is a planned radio interferometer providing unprecedented sensitivity at wavelengths between 21 cm and 3 mm. Its 263 antenna element array will be spatially distributed across North America to enable both superb low surface brightness recovery and sub-milliarcsecond angular resolution imaging. The project was developed by the international astronomy community under the lead of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), and is anticipated to be built between 2027 and 2037. Two workshops have been held in 2022 and 2023 with the goal to discuss and consolidate the scientific interests in the ngVLA within the German astronomical community. This community paper constitutes a collection of 48 science ideas which the German community aims to pursue with the ngVLA in the 2030s. This is not a complete list and the ideas are not developed at the level of a "Science Book", such that the present document is mainly meant provide a basis for further discussion within the community. We present full-track high-resolution radio observations of the jet of the galaxy M87 at 8 and 15 GHz. These observations were taken over three consecutive days in May 2009 using the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), one antenna of the Very Large Array (VLA), and the Effelsberg 100 m telescope. Our produced images have dynamic ranges exceeding 20,000:1 and resolve linear scales down to approximately 100 Schwarzschild radii, revealing a limb-brightened jet and a faint, steep spectrum counter-jet. We performed jet-to-counter-jet analysis, which helped estimate the physical parameters of the flow. The rich internal structure of the jet is dominated by three helical threads, likely produced by the Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) instability developing in a supersonic flow with a Mach number of approximately 20 and an enthalpy ratio of around 0.3. We produce a CLEAN imaging bias-corrected 8-15GHz spectral index image, which shows spectrum flattening in regions of helical thread intersections. This further supports the KH origin of the observed internal structure of the jet. We detect polarised emission in the jet at distances of approximately 20 milliarcseconds from the core and find Faraday rotation which follows a transverse gradient across the jet. We apply Faraday rotation correction to the polarisation position angle and find that the position angle changes as a function of distance from the jet axis, which suggests the presence of a helical magnetic field., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, 1 table, MNRAS: Accepted 2023 October 03. We examine the effect of a jet transversal structure from magnetohydrodynamic semi-analytical modelling on the total intensity profiles of relativistic jets from active galactic nuclei. In order to determine the conditions for forming double- and triple-peaked transverse intensity profiles, we calculate the radiative transfer for synchrotron emission with self-absorption from the jets described by the models with a constant angular velocity and with a total electric current closed inside a jet. We show that double-peaked profiles appear either in the models with high maximal Lorentz factors or in optically thick conditions. We show that triple-peaked profiles in radio galaxies constrain the fraction of the emitting particles in a jet. We introduce the possible conditions for triple-peaked profiles under the assumptions that nonthermal electrons are preferably located at the jet edges or are distributed according to Ohmic heating., Comment: 22 pages, 11 figures, accepted by MNRAS

Simultaneous study of magnetic and electrocatalytic properties of cobaltites under extreme conditions expands understanding of physical and chemical processes proceeding in them with the possibility of their further practical application. Therefore, La0.6Sr0.4CoO3 (LSCO) nanopowders have been synthesized at different annealing temperatures tann = 850, 875, 900 C, and their multifunctional properties have been studied comprehensively. As tann increases, the rhombohedral perovskite structure of the LSCO becomes more single-phase, whereas average particle size and dispersion grow. Co ions are in mixed valence states, including major Co3+ and Co4+ components. It has been found that the LSCO-900 shows two main Curie temperatures, TC1 and TC2, associated with a particle size distribution. As an external hydrostatic pressure P increases, average and increase from 253 and 175 K under ambient pressure to 268 and 180 K under P = 0.8 GPa, respectively. At the same time, the antiferromagnetic temperature TAFM and blocking temperature TB also increase from 145 and 169 K to 158 and 170 K, respectively. The increment of for the smaller and bigger particles is sufficiently high and equals 10 and 13 K/GPa, respectively. The magnetocaloric effect in the LSCO-900 nanopowder is relatively weak but with an extremely wide peak > 50 K that makes this composition interesting to be used as one of the components of the composite expanding its working temperature window. Moreover, all LSCO samples showed excellent electrocatalytic performance for the overall water splitting (OER) process (overpotentials only 265-285 mV at a current density of 10 mA/cm2) with minimal values for LSCO-900. The spectral index images of the jet in the nearby radio galaxy M87 have previously been shown with Very Long Baseline Interferometric arrays at 2-43 GHz. They exhibit flattening of the spectra at a location of inner (central) spine and toward outer ridges. This could imply optical depth effects, lower energy cutoff or stratification of the emitting particles energy distribution. In this paper we employ simulations of multifrequency VLBI observations of M87 radio jet with various model brightness distributions. CLEAN deconvolution errors produce significant features in the observed images. For intensity images they result in the appearance of the inner ridge line in the intrinsically edge brightened jet models. For spectral index images they flatten the spectra in a series of stripes along the jet. Another bias encountered in our simulations is steepening of the spectra in a low surface brightness jet regions. These types of the imaging artefacts do not depend on the model considered. The experimental studies of the paramagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transition through M\"{o}ssbauer spectroscopy and measurements of temperature and field dependencies of magnetic susceptibility in the layered Cu$_{0.15}$Fe$_{0.85}$PS$_3$ crystal are presented. The peculiar behavior of the magnetization - field dependence at low-temperature region gives evidence of a weak ferromagnetism in the studied alloy. By the ab initio simulation of electronic and spin subsystems, in the framework of electron density functional theory, the peculiarities of spin ordering at low temperature as well as changes in interatomic interactions in the vicinity of the Cu substitutional atoms are analyzed. The calculated components of the electric field gradient tensor and asymmetry parameter for Fe ions are close to the ones found from M\"{o}ssbauer spectra values. The Mulliken populations show that the main contribution to the ferromagnetic spin density is originated from $3d$-copper and $3p$-sulfur orbitals. The estimated total magnetic moment of the unit cell (8.543~emu/mol) is in reasonable agreement with the measured experimental value of $\sim9$~emu/mol., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 3 tables

Using stacking of images obtained at different epochs, we studied the variability properties of linear polarization of active galactic nucleus (AGN) jets on parsec-scales. Our sample is drawn from the MOJAVE programme, and consists of 436 AGNs manifesting core-jet morphology and having at least five VLBA observing epochs at 15 GHz from January 1996 through August 2019, with some additional archival VLBA data reduced by us. We employed a stacking procedure and constructed maps of (i) standard deviation of fractional polarization and electric vector position angle (EVPA) over epochs as the measure of variability and (ii) median polarization degree to quantify typical values in time. The distributions of these values along and across the jet were analysed for the whole sample for the first time. We found that core EVPA variability is typically higher than that of the jet, presumably due to component blending and outflow bends in the core. The BL Lacertae object cores have lower EVPA variability, compared to that of quasars, possibly due to lower Faraday rotation measure, suggesting a stronger ordered magnetic field component. The EVPA becomes more stable down the jet. Most of the sources showing this trend have a time coverage of more than 12 years and at least 15 epochs. The possible cause could be the increase of stability in the magnetic field direction, reflecting an increase in the fraction of the magnetic field that is ordered. We analysed the parsec-scale linear polarization properties of 436 active galactic nuclei (AGN) based on 15 GHz polarimetric Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations. We present polarization and total intensity images averaged over at least five epochs since 1996 January 19 through 2019 August 4. Stacking improves the image sensitivity down to $\sim$30 $\mu$Jy/beam and effectively fills out the jet cross-section both in total intensity and linear polarization. It delineates the long-term persistent magnetic field configuration and its regularity by restoring spatial distributions of the electric vector position angle (EVPA) and fractional polarization, respectively. On average, about ten years of stacking period is needed to reveal the stable and most-complete polarization distribution of a source. We find that the degree of polarization significantly increases down and across the jet towards its edges, typically manifesting U or W-shaped transverse profiles, suggesting a presence of a large-scale helical magnetic field associated with the outflow. In some AGN jets, mainly BL Lacs, we detect quasi-constant fractional polarization profiles across the jet, accompanied by EVPAs that closely follow the outflow. BL Lacs show higher fractional polarization values in their cores and jets than those in quasars up to hectoparsec de-projected scales, while on larger scales, they become comparable. High-synchrotron-peaked BL Lac jets are found to be less polarized than intermediate and low-synchrotron-peaked BL Lacs. In this work, we have designed obtained a novel multiferroic nanocomposite using the high-pressure torsion (HPT) method. The crystal structure, phase composition, morphology, ferromagnetic (FM) and ferroelectric (FE) properties of the initial powders and "multiferroic-ferromagnetic" nanocomposites have been studied comprehensively. The initial powders and their composites show the perovskite and spinel crystalline phases for the FE and FM fractions, respectively. After HPT, the particle sizes of the initial powders are decreased significantly. It is shown that the novel nanocomposite consists of exchange-interacting FE and FM phases and demonstrates improved magnetic and electrical properties in low fields at room temperature. A colossal increase in residual polarization with an increase in external high-pressure is found in new composite. The obtained results make it possible to consider the novel nanocomposite as a new functional material for its use both in electronic devices for monitoring ultra-high-pressure and in integrated circuits of high-speed computing nanosystems with low switching energy. Geometry of relativistic jets in active galaxies provides important information about mechanisms of launching, collimation and acceleration of plasma flow. We propose a new method to probe a boundary shape of a jet on parsec scales -- in the vicinity of its radio core. Apparent speed of an outflow is derived from variability time delays and core shifts measured at the same jet region, providing a self-consistent estimate of the Lorentz factor $\Gamma$. We link together the distance along the jet $z$ with its transverse size assuming a constant flow acceleration. Our results indicate that jets have parabolic shape and sustain an effective acceleration in the core region, consistent with the Lorentz factor dependency $\Gamma\propto z^{0.5}$. Despite extensive researches on manganites owing to widespread use in modern electronics, this class of metal oxides does not cease to surprise with its unique properties and new phenomena. Here we have studied structural and magnetic properties of non-Heisenberg manganite nanoparticles with a strong spin-electron coupling. During transition from low temperature ferromagnetic to high temperature paramagnetic state, the change in charge, valence and spin (magnetic moment) with the localization of eg-electrons on the manganese ions have been detected. With decrease in a temperature, the overstated effective magnetic moment of Mn ions in paramagnetic phase is reduced dramatically testifying to spin-dependent magnetism. The critical behavior of magnetization with determination of critical parameters near second-order phase transition has been studied comprehensively. The magnetic properties of thin-film multilayers [Fe/Py]/FeMn/Py are investigated as a function of temperature and thickness of the antiferromagnetic FeMn spacer using SQUID magnetometry. The observed behavior differs substantially for the structures with 6-nm and 15-nm FeMn spacers. While the 15-nm-FeMn structure exhibits exchange pinning of both ferromagnetic layers in the entire measurement temperature interval from 5 to 300 K, the 6-nm-FeMn structure becomes exchange de-pinned in the vicinity of room temperature. The de-pinned state is characterized by a single hysteresis loop centered around zero field and having enhanced magnetic coercivity. Security & privacy assurance techniques once designed for large, controlled updates over months or years, must now cope with small, continuous changes taking place within a week, and happening in sub-components that are controlled by third-party developers one might not even know they existed. In this paper, we aim to provide an overview of the current software security approaches and evaluate their appropriateness in the face of the changed nature in software development. Software security assurance could benefit by switching from a process-based to an artefact-based approach. Further, security evaluation might need to be more incremental, automated and decentralized. In finance, leverage is the ratio between assets borrowed from others and one's own assets. A matching situation is present in software: by using free open-source software (FOSS) libraries a developer leverages on other people's code to multiply the offered functionalities with a much smaller own codebase. In finance as in software, leverage magnifies profits when returns from borrowing exceed costs of integration, but it may also magnify losses, in particular in the presence of security vulnerabilities. We aim to understand the level of technical leverage in the FOSS ecosystem and whether it can be a potential source of security vulnerabilities. Also, we introduce two metrics change distance and change direction to capture the amount and the evolution of the dependency on third-party libraries. The application of the proposed metrics on 8494 distinct library versions from the FOSS Maven-based Java libraries shows that small and medium libraries (less than 100KLoC) have disproportionately more leverage on FOSS dependencies in comparison to large libraries. We show that leverage pays off as leveraged libraries only add a 4% delay in the time interval between library releases while providing four times more code than their own. However, libraries with such leverage (i.e., 75% of libraries in our sample) also have 1.6 higher odds of being vulnerable in comparison to the libraries with lower leverage. On 2019/07/30.86853 UT, IceCube detected a high-energy astrophysical neutrino candidate. The Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar PKS 1502+106 is located within the 50 percent uncertainty region of the event. Our analysis of 15 GHz Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) and astrometric 8 GHz VLBA data, in a time span prior and after the IceCube event, reveals evidence for a radio ring structure which develops with time. Several arc-structures evolve perpendicular to the jet ridge line. We find evidence for precession of a curved jet based on kinematic modelling and a periodicity analysis. An outflowing broad line region (BLR) based on the C IV line emission (Sloan Digital Sky Survey, SDSS) is found. We attribute the atypical ring to an interaction of the precessing jet with the outflowing material. We discuss our findings in the context of a spine-sheath scenario where the ring reveals the sheath and its interaction with the surroundings (narrow line region, NLR, clouds). We find that the radio emission is correlated with the $\gamma$-ray emission, with radio lagging the $\gamma$-rays. Based on the $\gamma$-ray variability timescale, we constrain the $\gamma$-ray emission zone to the BLR (30-200 $r_{\rm g}$) and within the jet launching region. We discuss that the outflowing BLR provides the external radiation field for $\gamma$-ray production via external Compton scattering. The neutrino is most likely produced by proton-proton interaction in the blazar zone (beyond the BLR), enabled by episodic encounters of the jet with dense clouds, i.e. some molecular cloud in the NLR., Comment: 35 pages, 33 figures, 3 tables; accepted by the MNRAS Main Journal

Context: Tangled commits are changes to software that address multiple concerns at once. For researchers interested in bugs, tangled commits mean that they actually study not only bugs, but also other concerns irrelevant for the study of bugs. Objective: We want to improve our understanding of the prevalence of tangling and the types of changes that are tangled within bug fixing commits. Methods: We use a crowd sourcing approach for manual labeling to validate which changes contribute to bug fixes for each line in bug fixing commits. Each line is labeled by four participants. If at least three participants agree on the same label, we have consensus. Results: We estimate that between 17% and 32% of all changes in bug fixing commits modify the source code to fix the underlying problem. However, when we only consider changes to the production code files this ratio increases to 66% to 87%. We find that about 11% of lines are hard to label leading to active disagreements between participants. Due to confirmed tangling and the uncertainty in our data, we estimate that 3% to 47% of data is noisy without manual untangling, depending on the use case. Conclusion: Tangled commits have a high prevalence in bug fixes and can lead to a large amount of noise in the data. Prior research indicates that this noise may alter results. The Blandford and K\"{o}nigl model of AGN jets predicts that the position of the apparent opaque jet base - the core - changes with frequency. This effect is observed with radio interferometry and is widely used to infer parameters and structure of the innermost jet regions. The position of the radio core is typically estimated by fitting a Gaussian template to the interferometric visibilities. This results in a model approximation error, i.e. a bias that can be detected and evaluated through simulations of observations with a realistic jet model. To assess the bias, we construct an artificial sample of sources based on the AGN jet model evaluated on a grid of the parameters derived from a real VLBI flux-density-limited sample and create simulated VLBI data sets at 2.3, 8.1 and 15.4 GHz. We found that the core position shifts from the true jet apex are generally overestimated. The bias is typically comparable to the core shift random error and can reach a factor of two for jets with large apparent opening angles. A magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) consisting of single-domain La0.8Ag0.2Mn1.2O3 nanoparticles with a Curie temperature close to room temperature (TC = 308 K) in a silicone matrix has been prepared and comprehensively studied. It has been found that at room temperature and above, MAE particles are magnetized superparamagnetically with a low coercivity below 10 Oe, and the influence of magnetic anisotropy on the appearance of a torque is justified. A coupling between magnetization and magnetoelasticity has been also established. The mechanisms of the appearance of magnetoelasticity, including the effect of MAE rearrangement and MAE compression by magnetized particles, have been revealed. It has been found that the magnetoelastic properties of MAE have critical features near TC. The magnetoelastic properties of MAE disappear at T > TC and are restored at T < TC. This makes it possible to use MAE at room temperature as a smart material for devices with self-regulating magnetoelastic properties., Comment: 31 pages, 9 figures

emcee is a Python library implementing a class of affine-invariant ensemble samplers for Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). This package has been widely applied to probabilistic modeling problems in astrophysics where it was originally published, with some applications in other fields. When it was first released in 2012, the interface implemented in emcee was fundamentally different from the MCMC libraries that were popular at the time, such as PyMC, because it was specifically designed to work with "black box" models instead of structured graphical models. This has been a popular interface for applications in astrophysics because it is often non-trivial to implement realistic physics within the modeling frameworks required by other libraries. Since emcee's release, other libraries have been developed with similar interfaces, such as dynesty (Speagle 2019). The largest Key Science Program of the RadioAstron space VLBI mission is a survey of active galactic nuclei (AGN). The main goal of the survey is to measure and study the brightness of AGN cores in order to better understand the physics of their emission while taking interstellar scattering into consideration. In this paper we present detection statistics for observations on ground-space baselines of a complete sample of radio-strong AGN at the wavelengths of 18, 6, and 1.3 cm. Physical parameters of AGN jets observed with Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) are usually inferred from the core shift measurements or flux and size measured at a peak frequency of the synchrotron spectrum. Both are preceded by modelling of the observed VLBI jet structure with a simple Gaussian templates. We propose to infer the jets parameters using the inhomogeneous jet model directly - bypassing the modelling of the source structure with a Gaussian templates or image deconvolution. We applied Bayesian analysis to multi-frequency VLBA observations of radio galaxy NGC 315 and found that its parsec-scale jet is well described by the inhomogeneous conical model. Our results favour electron-positron jet. We also detected a component in a counter jet. Its position implies the presence of an external absorber with a steep density gradient at close ($r=0.1$ pc) distance from the central engine., Comment: 15 pages, 14 figures. Very Long Baseline Interferometric (VLBI) observations of quasar jets enable one to measure many theoretically expected effects. Estimating the significance of observational findings is complicated by the correlated noise in the image plane. A reliable and well justified approach to estimate the uncertainties of VLBI results is needed as well as significance testing criteria. We propose to use bootstrap for both tasks. Using simulations we find that bootstrap-based errors for the full intensity, rotation measure, and spectral index maps have coverage closer to the nominal values than conventionally obtained errors. The proposed method naturally takes into account heterogeneous interferometric arrays (such as Space VLBI) and can be easily extended to account for instrumental calibration factors., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 11 pages, 16 figures

Synchrotron self-absorption in active galactic nuclei (AGN) jets manifests itself as a time delay between flares observed at high and low radio frequencies. It is also responsible for the observing frequency dependent change in size and position of the apparent base of the jet, aka the core shift effect, detected with very long baseline interferometry (VLBI). We measure the time delays and the core shifts in 11 radio-loud AGN to estimate the speed of their jets without relying on multi-epoch VLBI kinematics analysis. The 15$-$8 GHz total flux density time lags are obtained using Gaussian process regression, the core shift values are measured using VLBI observations and adopted from the literature. A strong correlation is found between the apparent core shift and the observed time delay. Our estimate of the jet speed is higher than the apparent speed of the fastest VLBI components by the median coefficient of 1.4. The coefficient ranges for individual sources from 0.5 to 20. We derive Doppler factors, Lorentz factors and viewing angles of the jets, as well as the corresponding de-projected distance from the jet base to the core. The results support evidence for acceleration of the jets with bulk motion Lorentz factor $\Gamma\propto R^{0.52\pm0.03}$ on de-projected scales $R$ of 0.5$-$500 parsecs., Comment: Accepted by MNRAS; 11 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables

BACKGROUND: Vulnerable dependencies are a known problem in today's open-source software ecosystems because OSS libraries are highly interconnected and developers do not always update their dependencies. AIMS: In this paper we aim to present a precise methodology, that combines the code-based analysis of patches with information on build, test, update dates, and group extracted from the very code repository, and therefore, caters to the needs of industrial practice for correct allocation of development and audit resources. METHOD: To understand the industrial impact of the proposed methodology, we considered the 200 most popular OSS Java libraries used by SAP in its own software. Our analysis included 10905 distinct GAVs (group, artifact, version) when considering all the library versions. RESULTS: We found that about 20% of the dependencies affected by a known vulnerability are not deployed, and therefore, they do not represent a danger to the analyzed library because they cannot be exploited in practice. Developers of the analyzed libraries are able to fix (and actually responsible for) 82% of the deployed vulnerable dependencies. The vast majority (81%) of vulnerable dependencies may be fixed by simply updating to a new version, while 1% of the vulnerable dependencies in our sample are halted, and therefore, potentially require a costly mitigation strategy. Spin Seebeck effect has been investigated in Pt/$\varepsilon$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ bilayers. The $\varepsilon$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ thin layer with $40-70$~nm thickness were deposited by a spin-coating method on Y:ZrO$_2$(100) substrates. The prepared layers are highly oriented with the easy magnetic $a$-axis parallel to the film surface. The magnetic hysteresis loops measured at room temperature with magnetic field parallel to the layer exhibit coercive fields up to 11.6~kOe, which is so far the highest value measured for $\varepsilon$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ thin layer samples. The shape of the spin Seebeck hysteresis loops is similar to the shape of magnetization for single phase layers with coercive field around 10~kOe. In some prepared layers a small amount of secondary soft ferrimagnetic phase is revealed by a constricted shape of magnetization loops, in contrast to spin Seebeck loops, where no constriction is observed. We have investigated the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility $\chi(T)$ of rare-earth cobaltites RCoO$_3$ (R= La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu) in the temperature range $4.2-300$ K and also the influence of hydrostatic pressure up to 2 kbar on their susceptibility at fixed temperatures $T=78 $ and 300 K. The specific dependence $\chi(T)$ observed in LaCoO$_3$ and the anomalously large pressure effect (d ln $\chi$/d$P\sim -100$ Mbar$^{-1}$ for $T = 78$ K) are analyzed in the framework of a two-level model with energy levels difference $\Delta$. The ground state of the system is assumed to be nonmagnetic with the zero spin of Co$^{3+}$ ions, and magnetism at a finite temperature is determined by the excited magnetic spin state. The results of the analysis, supplemented by theoretical calculations of the electronic structure of LaCoO$_3$, indicate a significant increase in $\Delta$ with a decrease in the unit cell volume under the hydrostatic pressure. In the series of RCoO$_3$ (R= Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu) compounds, the volume of crystal cell decreases monotonically due to a decrease in the radius of R$^{3+}$ ions. This leads to an increase in the relative energy $\Delta$ of the excited state (the chemical pressure effect), which manifests itself in a decrease in the contribution of cobalt ions to the magnetic susceptibility at a fixed temperature, and also in a decrease in the hydrostatic pressure effect on the susceptibility of RCoO$_3$ compounds, which we have observed at $T=300$ K.
