Abstract

Nanometric scale size oscillations seem to be a fundamental feature of all living organisms on Earth. Their detection usually requires complex and very sensitive devices. However, some recent studies demonstrated that very simple optical microscopes and dedicated image processing software can also fulfill this task. This novel technique, termed as optical nanomotion detection (ONMD), was recently successfully used on yeast cells to conduct rapid antifungal sensitivity tests. In this study, we demonstrate that the ONMD method can monitor motile sub-cellular organelles, such as mitochondria. Here, mitochondrial isolates (from HEK 293 T and Jurkat cells) undergo predictable motility when viewed by ONMD and triggered by mitochondrial toxins, citric acid intermediates, and dietary and bacterial fermentation products (short-chain fatty acids) at various doses and durations. The technique has superior advantages compared to classical methods since it is rapid, possesses a single organelle sensitivity, and is label- and attachment-free.

Abstract

Background: In terms of health outcomes for both mother and child, breast milk is the best first diet for newborns. For working postnatal women, expressed breast milk is a healthier option than formula milk. The research objective was explore the problems of working mothers regarding breastfeeding and to assess the status of knowledge and practice regarding expressed breast milk feeding among working mothers. Materials and Methods: In this study, an exploratory survey design was adopted. A total of 80 postnatal working women were chosen by a non-probability convenient sampling method from three universities. The observation problems checklist, structured knowledge questionnaire, and self-reported practice checklist were used to examine working mothers knowledge and practice related expressed breast milk feeding in order to collect data for the research project. Result: According to the findings of the study, the majority of mothers 50(62.5%) had concerns with employers treating them differently because they chose to express breast milk at work. The sample's knowledge score on expressed breast milk feeding is 48(60%) have very poor knowledge and 41 (51.2%) have moderate practice for expressed breast milk feeding. The relationship between sociodemographic factors and the question on do you have 6 months of maternity leave? shows educational level of mothers obtained chi square value X2=7.275 and p=0.026 and the relationship between sociodemographic factors and question on do you feel comfortable to expressing milk in work place? shows that educational level of mothers obtained chi square value ?2=10.228 and p=0.006 was found statistically significant association. The value of "r" was 0.049. It was statistically significant at the 0.01 level of significance. So that researcher found that there is a positive correlation between knowledge and practice score of expressed breast milk feeding. Conclusion: Researcher concluded that, most people have a moderate understanding and there is a good association between knowledge and practice of expressed breast milk feeding. Abstract

Introduction: A study examining the impact of social determinants of health on COVID-19 outcomes is necessary to identify which aspects of a vulnerable population make it more susceptible. We describe the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of a patient population disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and situate the findings within the broader context of health determinants. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study of 527 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized from March 12 to April 13, 2020, evaluated patient demographics, comorbidities, presentation, and outcomes. The study took place at an academic medical center serving a low-income, Black community (predominantly Caribbean-born) in Brooklyn, New York. Results: Compared to previous studies, we report a higher median age of 70 (interquartile range 59-80), a higher percentage of Blacks (91%), a higher prevalence of comorbidities (hypertension [83%], diabetes [53%], and obesity [42%]), a higher prevalence of abnormal findings on presentation (altered mental status [30%], Quick sequential organ failure assessment score =2 [27%], elevated random-glucose [77%], elevated creatinine [57%]), and a higher incidence of negative in-hospital outcomes (intensive care unit admission [21%], mechanical ventilation [21%], acute kidney injury [31%], acute respiratory distress syndrome [17%] and acute cardiac injury [18%], and age-adjusted fatality rate [40%.]). Conclusions: This study shows the characteristics of a patient population disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The intersectionality of the Black race, older age, a high prevalence of comorbidities, and residency in a locale severely affected by COVID-19, deserves further consideration to better address health outcomes in vulnerable patient groups. Abstract

Background: Diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) is a chronic, symmetric, length‐dependent sensorimotor polyneuropathy, people with peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes often experience balance disorder. Foam texture and sand texture improve balance by providing increased stimulation of sensory receptors of the plantar surface of the foot. Aim: To find out the effect of foam texture versus sand texture on balance with diabetic polyneuropathy. Method: a total of 30 subjects age 35 to 70 years (male and female) having diabetic polyneuropathy were included in the study on the basis of selection criteria. Patients have been divided into 2 groups. Group A received balance and conventional exercise on foam texture and group B received balance and conventional exercise on sand texture (30 minutes,5 times /week, 6 weeks) Outcome measures have been taken on day 1 and after 6 weeks. the data was analyzed using. SPSS 21. Conclusion: This study concluded that balance exercise on foam texture shows significant improvement in balance in diabetic polyneuropathy patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
