The conceptual design of the High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) generator for Mobile Radar applications is described. Its power system is composed of a generator, power conditioning electronics and a diesel engine. The cryogenic cooling of the generator and the power electronics result in substantial improvements in performance, system efficiency and power density. The total losses and efficiency are presented.

A study was conducted on the intrinsic magneto-resistance of cryogenic joints with with lap, sandwich and butt geometries. The joint resistance was measured as a function of the magnetic field strength for Cu-SC and Cu-Al superconducting pairs. Results indicate the influence of joint resistance on filamentary superconductors' stability and coupling loss. Results have potential applications on the design of conductors and superconducting coils.

The article presents information about a good conversationalist. In ordinary terms the question is usually put by ordinary people as the problem of being a good conversationalist, a good "talker," or an "interesting" person to talk to. As social scientists one must be a good deal more definite about the problem of meaningful content in relation to from and the social situation. It is clear from the outset that "good conversationalist" selects his subjects matter in terms of what has gone before and what is probably to occur after. He does not operate in a temporal vacuum. He also selects his topics of conversation in terms of the definitions of the situations that are present or emerging. At a funeral one does not till jokes, and at a wedding one does not about infidelity. Thirdly the person is attuned to the functional requirements of the situation and the "content of his talk" reflects these requirements. If the group is engaged in a task of cutting wood in a forest; a good deal of the talk, one may predict, will revolve around "cutting wood." So one may temporarily say that "topics of conversation" will be structured around three foci or considerations, varying in emphasis from situation to situation.

The article presents information on subjective marginality and alienation. A great deal has been written about objective marginality and its psychological correlates. Unfortunately little has been done to study marginality as it is perceived by the person himself. It is the objective of this paper to examine marginality as it is felt by the person that is subjective marginality. Subjective marginality is not uni-dimensional concept. Of the five measures of subjective marginality, only in two cases were the inter-associations significantly correlated. Even these were low associations. Apparently people compartmentalized their marginality. One cannot assume that a person "feels" marginal in all or even most areas of his social involvement. The literature suggests that this has been the assumption in the past. With respect to the relationship between alienation and marginality in general the expectations were weakly supported. Three of the correlations were significant, although low. Subjective marginality in the areas of ethnicity, family and occupation seems to be related to alienation, however, the associations are low. One found that alienation is related to subjective marginality in the areas of ethnicity, family and occupation. Subjective marginality seemed to be composed of a number of independent facts. One could feel ethnically marginal with respect to social class and to ones family but not to one's ethnic, class, or religious reference groups. In short, people contain their marginal feelings to one or perhaps two areas.
