Bisphenol A (BPA), a known endocrine disruptor, is commonly used in food containers and packaging. Recently, alternatives such as bisphenol AF (BPAF), bisphenol B (BPB), and bisphenol E (BPE) have been introduced to replace BPA. However, these substitutes have been reported to exhibit toxicity levels similar to BPA. In this study, we developed and validated a method for the analysis of trace bisphenols (BPA, BPAF, BPB, and BPE) in food using immunoaffinity column (IAC) clean-up. The method demonstrated satisfactory accuracy and precision. We applied this validated method to analyze 56 carbonated beverage samples and 30 canned tuna samples. In the carbonated beverages, average concentrations of BPA and BPAF were 0.4 and 0.2 μg kg−1, respectively. In canned tuna, BPA and BPAF were found at average concentrations of 22.2 and 0.7 μg kg−1, respectively, while BPB and BPE were not detected in any samples. Estimated exposure levels ranged from 0.13 to 0.18 ng kg bw−1 day−1 in the general population and from 205.2 to 232.0 ng kg bw−1 day−1 among consumers. Protein therapeutics are emerging as essential technologies due to their functional and chemical properties. However, their application is currently limited to delivery by oral and injection methods—the former being inefficient and the latter invasive and potentially tissue damaging. Researchers are, therefore, exploring noninvasive delivery systems for proteins through the skin, including transdermal and topical delivery. The large molecular size of proteins presents a key challenge for skin penetration, hindering their ability to penetrate the dense skin lamellar structure. This review focuses on using nanoparticles as carriers to increase protein stability and enhance skin penetration. The use of noninvasive or minimally invasive enhancers for controlling and improving penetration depth is also examined. Furthermore, the physical properties of nanoparticles that affect delivery are evaluated, aiming to propose ways to advance transdermal and topical delivery methods in the future. Oral dryness is among the most common conditions experienced by the elderly. As saliva plays a crucial role in maintaining oral health and overall quality of life, the condition is increasingly taking its toll on a rapidly growing aging population. D-galactose (D-gal) stimulates their formation, which in turn cause oxidative stress and accelerate age-related decline in physical function. In this study, we observed a reduction in salivary secretion and amylase levels in aged rats injected with D-gal, confirming salivary gland dysfunction. Treatment with gemigliptin increased DPP-4 inhibition and GLP-1 levels in the salivary glands of aging rats and reduced the expression of AGEs and receptors for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). This effect was caused by the presence of additional reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the salivary glands of the examined rats. Gemigliptin's cytoprotective effect reduced amylase and mucin accumulation and increased AQP5 expression, which are important indicators of salivary gland function. In sum, gemigliptin was shown to improve D-gal-induced decline in the salivary gland function of aged rats through its anti-glycation and antioxidant activities.
