Quantum interferometry based on induced-coherence phenomena has demonstrated the possibility of undetected-photon measurements. Perturbation in the optical path of probe photons can be detected by interference signals generated by quantum mechanically correlated twin photons propagating through a different path, possibly at a different wavelength. To the best of our knowledge, this work demonstrates for the first time a hybrid-type induced-coherence interferometer that incorporates a Mach-Zehnder-type interferometer for visible photons and a Michelson-type interferometer for infrared photons, based on double-pass pumped spontaneous parametric down-conversion. This configuration enables infrared optical measurements via the detection of near-visible photons and provides methods for characterizing the quality of measurements by identifying photon pairs of different origins. The results verify that the induced-coherence interference visibility is approximately the same as the heralding efficiencies between twin photons along the relevant spatial modes. Applications to both time-domain and frequency-domain quantum-optical induced-coherence tomography for three-dimensional test structures are demonstrated. The results prove the feasibility of practical undetected-photon sensing and imaging techniques based on the presented structure.

We experimentally implement a machine-learning method for accurately identifying unknown pure quantum states. The method, called single-shot measurement learning, achieves the theoretical optimal accuracy for $\epsilon = O(N^{-1})$ in state learning and reproduction, where $\epsilon$ and $N$ denote the infidelity and number of state copies, without employing computationally demanding tomographic methods. This merit results from the inclusion of weighted randomness in the learning rule governing the exploration of diverse learning routes. We experimentally verify the advantages of our scheme by using a linear-optics setup to prepare and measure single-photon polarization qubits. We propose a schematic setup of quantum key distribution (QKD) with an improved secret key rate based on high-dimensional quantum states. Two degrees-of-freedom of a single photon, orbital angular momentum modes, and multi-path modes, are used to encode secret key information. Its practical implementation consists of optical elements that are within the reach of current technologies such as a multiport interferometer. We show that the proposed feasible protocol has improved the secret key rate with much sophistication compared to the previous 2-dimensional protocol known as the detector-device-independent QKD., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Quantum teleportation allows to transfer unknown quantum states between distant parties. It is not only a primitive of quantum communications but also an essential task in realization of the quantum networks for promising applications such as quantum cryptography and distributed quantum computation. Despite recent substantial progresses in the realization of quantum communications, teleportation of shared quantum information between multiple senders and receivers is still missing. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate quantum teleportation among spatially separate parties in a quantum network. The protocol can be jointly performed by distributed participants, while none of them can fully access the transferred information. It can be generally extended to quantum communications incorporating an arbitrary number of parties without a trusted central node. Our work opens a route to the realization of distributed quantum communications and computations in quantum networks

Fiber transport of multi-dimensional photonic qudits promises high information capacity per photon without space restriction. This work experimentally demonstrates transmission of spatial qudits through multi-core optical fibers and measurement of the entanglement between two fibers with quantum state analyzers, each composed of a spatial light modulator and a single-mode fiber. Quantum state tomography reconstructs the four-dimension entangled state that verifies the non-locality through concurrences in two-dimensional subspaces and a high-dimensional Bell-type CGLMP inequality.

Photons have proven to be excellent carriers of quantum information, and play essential roles in numerous quantum information processing (QIP) applications. In particular, heralded single- photon sources via spontaneous parametric-down conversion (SPDC) have been a key technology for demonstrating small-scale QIP, yet their low generation efficiency is a critical limitation for further scaling up optical QIP technology. In order to efficiently overcome the probabilistic nature of SPDC, here we demonstrate time multiplexing for up to 30 time slots of a periodically pumped heralded single-photon source, using a switchable low-loss optical storage cavity. We observe a maximum single-photon probability of 38.6% in periodic output time windows, corresponding to 6 times enhancement over a non-multiplexed source, but with no increase in the contribution of unwanted multi-photon events. Combining this time-multiplexing technique with a heralded source producing pure single-photon states should enable larger scale optical QIP systems than ever realized.

We propose a linear optical scheme that can conditionally generate high NOON states using polarization modes. This scheme provides advantages over the previous proposals on path-entangled NOON states in view of success probability or required resources of optical elements. We propose and demonstrate the scaling up of photonic graph state through path qubit fusion. Two path qubits from separate two-photon four-qubit states are fused to generate a two-dimensional seven-qubit graph state composed of polarization and path qubits. Genuine seven-qubit entanglement is verified by evaluating the witness operator. Six qubits from the graph state are used to execute the general two-qubit Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm with a success probability greater than 90%., Comment: 4 pages. Spatial interference of quantum mechanical particles exhibits a fundamental feature of quantum mechanics. A two-mode entangled state of N particles known as N00N state can give rise to non-classical interference. We report the first experimental observation of a three-photon N00N state exhibiting Young's double-slit type spatial quantum interference. Compared to a single-photon state, the three-photon entangled state generates interference fringes that are three times denser. Moreover, its interference visibility of $0.49 \pm 0.09$ is well above the limit of 0.1 for spatial super-resolution of classical origin. The demonstration of spatial quantum interference by a N00N state composed of more than two photons represents an important step towards applying quantum entanglement to technologies such as lithography and imaging.

We describe an experimental demonstration of a novel three-photon NOON state generator using a single source of photons based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC). The three-photon number-entangled state is deterministically generated by the detection of a heralding photon. Interference fringes measured with an emulated three-photon absorber reveal the three-photon de Broglie wavelength and exhibit visibility > 70% without background subtraction., Comment: 3 figures

We propose a super-resolution quantum lithography scheme based on coherent population trapping in lambda-type atoms coupled to temporally-cascaded standing-wave driving fields. By realizing effective multiplication of optical intensity profiles on an atomic state density distribution, the scheme enables an arbitrarily high degree of resolution enhancement without modifying the atomic level structure of the photographic medium or the light source configuration.
