According to Ginzburg-Landau theory, it has been generally accepted that the diamagnetic property decreases after the lower critical field. However, we found that (Fe, Ti) particle doped MgB2 specimens reveal the Delta H = Delta B section in the magnetization curves, which are not following the theory. We present whether this phenomenon appears to be only confined to (Fe, Ti) particle doped Magnesium diborid superconductor, whether there is a theoretical basis and why it does not appear in other superconductors. We have understood that the cause of the Delta H = Delta B section is the pinning phenomenon of defects in the superconductor and it only occurs in volume defect dominating superconductors. The width of the Delta H = Delta B section along the number of defects and Hc2 was estimated assuming that defects are in the ideal state, and compared with experimental results. We hypothesized that pinned fluxes have to be picked out from the defect and move into an inside of a superconductor regardless free energy depth of the defect if the distance between fluxes pinned at the defect is equal to the one of upper critical field. It is considered that the reason that this phenomenon has not been reported yet is the flux jump of the volume defect dominating superconductor. The section means that the fluxes that have penetrated into a inside of a superconductor in which volume defects exist are preferentially pinned on them over the entire specimen before Ginzburg-Landau behavior. If the size of volume defects is uniform in some extent, the influence of the planar and line defects is small and the flux jump does not occur, we believe that the section must be observed in any superconductor. We examined the temperature (T) evolution of the optical conductivity spectra of Sr$_3$Ir$_2$O$_7$ over a wide range of 10-400 K. The system was barely insulating, exhibiting a small indirect bandgap of $\sim$0.1 eV. The low-energy features of the optical d-d excitation (${\hbar}{\omega}$ $<$ 0.3 eV) evolved drastically, whereas such evolution was not observed for the O K-edge X-ray absorption spectra. This suggests that the T evolution in optical spectra is not caused by a change in the bare (undressed) electronic structure, but instead, presumably originates from an abundance of phonon-assisted indirect excitations. Our results showed that the low-energy excitations were dominated by phonon-absorption processes which involve, in particular, the optical phonons. This implies that phonon-assisted processes significantly facilitate the charge dynamics in barely insulating Sr$_3$Ir$_2$O$_7$., Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. B

The temperature ($T$) dependence of the optical conductivity spectra $\sigma(\omega)$ of a single crystal SrRuO$_3$ thin film is studied over a $T$ range from 5 to 450 K. We observed significant $T$ dependence of the spectral weights of the charge transfer and interband $d$-$d$ transitions across the ferromagnetic Curie temperature ($T_c$ ~ 150 K). Such $T$ dependence was attributed to the increase in the Ru spin moment, which is consistent with the results of density functional theory calculations. $T$ scans of $\sigma(\Omega, T)$ at fixed frequencies $\Omega$ reveal a clear $T^2$ dependence below $T_c$, demonstrating that the Stoner mechanism is involved in the evolution of the electronic structure. In addition, $\sigma(\Omega, T)$ continues to evolve at temperatures above $T_c$, indicating that the local spin moment persists in the paramagnetic state. This suggests that SrRuO$_3$ is an intriguing oxide system with itinerant ferromagnetism.

We present an accurate measurement and a quantitative analysis of electron-beam induced displacements of carbon atoms in single-layer graphene. We directly measure the atomic displacement ("knock-on") cross section by counting the lost atoms as a function of the electron beam energy and applied dose. Further, we separate knock-on damage (originating from the collision of the beam electrons with the nucleus of the target atom) from other radiation damage mechanisms (e.g. ionization damage or chemical etching) by the comparison of ordinary (12C) and heavy (13C) graphene. Our analysis shows that a static lattice approximation is not sufficient to describe knock-on damage in this material, while a very good agreement between calculated and experimental cross sections is obtained if lattice vibrations are taken into account., Comment: 10 pages including supplementary info

We work out the effects of hypercritical accretion, which transfers mass from the secondary to the primary (first-born) neutron star (NS) in a binary, showing that the mass of the primary would end up 0.6 M_sun greater than the secondary NS in contradiction with the very nearly equal masses of the two NS's in binaries measured to date. We discuss that the primary NS evolves into a low-mass black-hole (LMBH) due to the hypercritical accretion. Using a flat distribution in the mass ratio q (q = M_secondary/M_primary), we calculated a ratio of LMBH-NS and NS-NS systems to be 5, in rough agreement with Pinsonneault and Stanek (2006). These authors emphasize the importance of "twins", which we discuss. Building on, and extending, the result of a higher-order in-medium chiral perturbation theory combined with renormalization group arguments and a variety of observations of the vector manifestation of Harada-Yamawaki hidden local symmetry theory, we obtain a surprisingly simple description of kaon condensation by fluctuating around the "vector manifestation (VM)" fixed point identified to be the chiral restoration point. Our development establishes that strangeness condensation takes place at about 3 n_0 where n_0 is nuclear matter density. This result depends only on the renoramlization-group (RG) behavior of the vector interactions, other effects involved in fluctuating about the bare vacuum in so many previous calculations being "irrelevant" in the RG about the fixed point. By extending the Bielefeld LGS (Lattice Gauge Simulation) color singlet interaction, we find that the masses of pi, sigma, rho and a_1 excitations, 32 degrees of freedom in all, go to zero (in the chiral limit) as T -> T_c. This result indicates a smooth phase transition at T_c, at which from above the masses and couplings of mesons vanish `a la Brown-Rho scaling.
