Abstract

RNA interference (RNAi) is a process in which small RNA molecules (such as small interfering RNAs or siRNAs) bind to specific messenger RNAs (mRNAs), leading to its degradation and inhibition of protein synthesis. Our studies have shown that RNAi can effectively silence genes involved in the replication of the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) in cells. However, these investigations were performed only in laboratory settings and have yet to be tested in human clinical trials. Researchers need to conduct more research to determine the safety and efficacy of RNAi-based therapies as a therapeutic agent to treat viral infections. In this review, the history of evolution of siRNA as an inhibitor of protein synthesis, along with its current developments, is discussed based on our experience. 12. A Conceptual Study of Medo Dusthi w.s.r. to Dyslipidemia in Ayurveda

Abstract

As the Indian economy grows, the epidemic of Medo Roga has spread across the  country. The food we eat on a daily basis contributes to our health. However, many  people's desire to eat more and exercise less is hastening the spread of the Medo  Roga. Obesity is spreading in the modern day due to lifestyle changes and increased  consumption of junk food combined with a stressful lifestyle. According to recent  studies, high cholesterol is present in 25-30% of urban and 15-20% of rural  subjects. This prevalence is lower in low-income countries than in high-income  countries. This negative health consequence could be the cause of a variety of  lifestyle disorders such as dyslipidemia, hyperlipidemia, malnutrition, and  osteoarthritis, among others. In today's fast-paced world, dyslipidemia is a major  lifestyle disorder. The ramifications of Medo Vikriti and its dangers have been well  documented in our classics. Medoroga is primarily an Agni imbalance caused by a  variety of etiological causes, including Aaharatmak, Viharatmak, Mansik, and  others such as Bijabhava (hereditary). There is no such phrase as dyslipidemia in  Ayurveda texts, however the qualities of Sneha Dravya are defined as Medodhatu  in Ayurveda.

21. Serum ferritin level as a prognostic biomarker for predicting dengue disease severity: A systematic review and meta‐analysis.

Abstract

Serum ferritin levels serves as biomarkers in many inflammatory and infectious diseases. This current systematic review and meta‐analysis evaluated whether serum ferritin levels are associated with severe dengue and its utility as a biomarker of disease severity. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, the Cochrane library, and Google Scholar. A total of 18 studies examining the serum ferritin levels in dengue cases in the context of disease severity (nine studies having dengue classification as non‐severe vs. severe dengue cases, and nine studies having dengue classification as dengue without warning signs (DwoWS), dengue with warning signs (DwWS), and severe dengue cases) were included and the quality of the studies was assessed using the Quality in Prognostic Factor Studies tool. The meta‐analysis was performed using STATA software to calculate the effect size as a standardized mean difference (SMD) or Hedges 'g' for the continuous outcome. Higher serum ferritin levels were found in severe dengue cases compared to non‐severe cases [SMD (Hedges 'g') 4.05 (95% C.I. 2.09–6.00), (I2 = 98.8%)]. In the second group, DwWS cases showed high serum ferritin levels compared to DwoWS [SMD 2.01 (95% C.I. 0.92–3.10), (I2 = 97.89%)], and severe dengue cases showed higher levels of serum ferritin compared to DwWS [SMD 2.66 (95% C.I. 1.72–4.48), (I2 = 98.78%)] and DwoWS cases [SMD 6.65 (95% C.I. 1.72–11.59), (I2 = 99.78%]. Subgroup analysis for the country of study (India vs. others), ferritin testing methods, and ferritin measurement day revealed testing method as a significant contributor to heterogeneity. To conclude, the present study suggests serum ferritin as a prognostic marker for dengue disease severity. Multi‐centric studies involving a large number of dengue patients with a uniform case definition accounting for all the confounding variables might help in determining a universal cut‐off value to discriminate between non‐severe and severe dengue. Abstract

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a mosquito-borne pathogen that has a major health impact in humans and causes acute febrile illness in humans accompanied by joint pains and, in many cases, persistent arthralgia lasting for weeks to years. CHIKV reemerged in 2005-2006 in several parts of the Indian Ocean islands and India after a gap of 32 years, causing millions of cases. The re-emergence of CHIKV has also resulted in numerous outbreaks in several countries in the eastern hemisphere, with a threat to further expand in the near future. However, there is no vaccine against CHIKV infection licensed for human use, and therapy for CHIKV infection is still mainly limited to supportive care as antiviral agents are yet in different stages of testing or development. In this review we explore the different perspectives for chikungunya treatment and the effectiveness of these treatment regimens and discuss the scope for future directions.
