In recent times, there have been notable advancements in dental materials, with particular emphasis on the progress made in the development of bioactive glass and ceramic composites. The unique capacity of bioactive glass to promote bone regeneration and repair has garnered significant attention. This has led to its widespread use in the field. The utilisation of ceramic composites as dental materials has exhibited favourable outcomes owing to their superior strength, biocompatibility, and aesthetic. The present review article provides an overview of the latest developments in bioactive glass and ceramic composites, encompassing their characteristics, manufacturing techniques, and employment in the field of dentistry. The present study will concentrate on the application of bioactive glass in the fields of restorative dentistry, bone augmentation interventions, and endodontic treatment. The utilisation of ceramic composites in implant dentistry will be examined, along with their prospective implementation in other dental contexts. This review aims to elucidate the difficulties that are linked with the utilisation of said materials, including their fragility and the requirement for meticulous handling, in addition to plausible remedies for mitigating these difficulties. The current review article illustrates the advancements in bioactive glass and ceramic composites possess the capacity to considerably enhance the results of diverse dental procedures, thereby furnishing patients with restorations that are more enduring, visually appealing, and biocompatible.

Ni3Al films were deposited on silicon (100) substrate at different substrate temperatures by DC magnetron sputtering. The evolution of phase, microstructure, surface topography and mechanical properties have been investigated as a function of substrate temperature via XRD, FE-SEM, AFM and nanoindentation respectively. Results revealed that the deposited film possessed the preferred orientation of (111) whereas the crystallite size increased and grain size decreased with increase in the substrate temperature. The results of nanoindentation showed that the hardness of the film increased up to 400 °C after which it abruptly decreased. Maximum hardness of ∼13 GPa was achieved when the film was deposited at the substrate temperature of 400 °C. The surface roughness of the film increases simultaneously with the increase in substrate temperature whereas the static contact angle and mechanical properties declined significantly for the film deposited at the substrate temperature of 600 °C. This study reflects the impact of substrate temperature on the evolution of phase, microstructure and mechanical properties of Ni3Al coatings deposited at different substrate temperatures. The advancement of manufacturing technology has resulted in an increasing need for detailed, lightweight, and high-performance components with complicated geometries across many sectors. The emergence of advanced casting processes has been crucial in addressing these needs, as they provide the potential to manufacture components with complex geometries, enhanced mechanical characteristics, and minimised material wastage. The present study delves into the intricate domain of advanced casting processes, with a specific emphasis on the areas of design, simulation, and process control. The design of components with intricate shapes poses difficulties that conventional casting techniques encounter difficulties in surmounting. Simulation methods are crucial for accurately predicting the solidification and flow characteristics in casting processes, as this is essential for the production of components without any defects. Sophisticated simulation technologies, like as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA), are utilised in advanced casting processes to model and analyse the intricate thermal and fluid dynamics phenomena that transpire during the casting process. This research provides an in-depth analysis of the role of simulations in enhancing the comprehension of solidification patterns, the identification of probable faults, and the optimisation of gating and riser designs to improve the overall quality of castings.

The science of materials joining has witnessed the emergence of advanced welding techniques, which have become crucial operations. These techniques provide improved manipulation and regulation of the microstructure and mechanical characteristics of welded joints. The primary objective of this work is to examine the complex correlation between the microstructure and mechanical characteristics of materials that have undergone joining processes utilising sophisticated welding methods. The present research provides insight into the development of many microstructural characteristics, including grain growth, phase transitions, and defect creation, and their influence on the mechanical properties of welded joints. The mechanical characteristics being examined span a broad spectrum of factors, such as tensile strength, toughness, hardness, and fatigue resistance. The evaluation of these qualities is conducted by subjecting specimens obtained from the welded joints to a variety of mechanical tests. Through the correlation of microstructural traits with the observed mechanical behaviour, a more profound comprehension of the structure-property link in advanced welding is attained. In addition, this study investigates the impact of welding parameters, including welding speed, heat input, and shielding gas composition, on the microstructure and mechanical characteristics. The objective of this inquiry is to optimise the welding parameters in order to get the specified material characteristics in the welded connections, while simultaneously minimising the development of faults and ensuring the maintenance of structural integrity.

Industrial discharge is one of the major reasons for increasing heavy metal intoxication in the ecosys- tem and is a cause of global apprehension. The introduction of policies for periodically limited dura- tion shutdown of industries might provide a way forward for reducing the pollutant loads in river bodies. Further, hyper-accumulator plants could serve as cost-effective alternatives to conventional sew- age treatment facilities but comparative studies with native water hyacinth as natural water filtration systems with limnological studies and risk assessment remain to be determined. We here investigated the most polluted industrial effluent among ten industries during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic confinement (pre- and post-lockdown, that is, February 2020 and October 2020) in Mathura industrial area, India in terms of chromium and cadmium toxicity. Besides, the biosorbent potential of native Eichhornia crassipes and Epipremnum aureum plants was also estimated by triplicate batch experiments (7 d) from the most polluted industrial effluent. For risk assessment, the Metal Quality Index (MQI), Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis, and Heavy Metal Pollution Index (HPI) were calculated, while the students’ paired sample t-test was employed to determine the statistical significance of changes in HPI and MQI. The findings revealed that the mean HPI for Cr (166,545 and 53,797) and Cd (96.11 and 9.78) were found to be extremely high during the pre-lockdown period which reduced significantly in the post-lockdown period. For student’s t-test analysis, the p-values for the investigated sites were initiated to be consid- erably below the 0.05 level of significance. While results demonstrate removal efficiency of 67.66% and 61.22%, respectively in E. crassipes, whereas it was 44.26% and 38.90% in E. aureum. Low levels of student’s t-test and p-values suggest a transient statistical impact of pandemic confinement on the water quality of studied sites and may help to alter pollution control policies and actions to make sure the environment is sustainable and safe. In addition, information makes it possible to conclude that money plants and water hyacinths both are effective candidates for removing chromium and cadmium from industrial effluents.
