1. Poisoning Mechanism Map for Metal Hydride Hydrogen Storage Materials

Abstract: Abstract The effective utilization of hydrogen storage materials (HSMs) is hindered by impurity gas poisoning, posing a significant challenge for large‐scale applications. This study elucidates the poisoning mechanisms of various impurities gases (CO, CO2, O2, Ar, He, CH4, N2) on ZrCo, Pd, U and LaNi5. Impurities gases are categorized into active and inactive types based on their effecting behaviors and mechanisms on the hydrogenation of HSMs. During the hydrogenation process, active impurities chemically poison the hydrogenation reaction by limiting hydrogen absorption at interface, while inactive impurities physically hinder hydrogenation reaction by impeding hydrogen diffusion in hydrogen‐impurity mixed gas. In situ Scanning Tunneling Microscope clarifies these behaviors, and a novel criterion based on hydrogen spontaneous dissociation energy is introduced to explain and predict impurity–substrate interaction characteristics. The novel findings of this work provide a comprehensive framework for designing long‐lived HSMs with poisoning resistance, guiding the development of more resilient hydrogen storage systems.

2. Isotope engineering achieved by local coordination design in Ti-Pd co-doped ZrCo-based alloys

Abstract: Abstract Deuterium/Tritium (D/T) handling in defined proportions are pivotal to maintain steady-state operation for fusion reactors. However, the hydrogen isotope effect in metal-hydrogen systems always disturbs precise D/T ratio control. Here, we reveal the dominance of kinetic isotope effect during desorption. To reconcile the thermodynamic stability and isotope effect, we demonstrate a quantitative indicator of T gap and further a local coordination design strategy that comprises thermodynamic destabilization with vibration enhancement of interstitial isotopes for isotope engineering. Based on theoretical screening analysis, an optimized Ti-Pd co-doped Zr0.8Ti0.2Co0.8Pd0.2 alloy is designed and prepared. Compared to ZrCo alloy, the optimal alloy enables consistent isotope delivery together with a three-fold lower T gap, a five-fold lower energy barrier difference, a one-third lower isotopic composition deviation during desorption and an over two-fold higher cycling capacity. This work provides insights into the interaction between alloy and hydrogen isotopes, thus opening up feasible approaches to support high-performance fusion reactors.

3. Defect engineering in N-doped OMC for lightweight and high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorption

Abstract: Developing low density and efficient dielectric loss materials has become a research hotspot, which can greatly meet the demands of modern radars and settle the problem of electromagnetic wave pollution. Herein, a series of N-doped ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) materials with different nitrogen content were prepared via a modified self-assembly method and defect engineering in subsequent calcination treatment. It was discovered that the content and type of nitrogen doping can be effectively modulated by the amount of precursor dicyandiamide, resulting in the changes in porous structure, carbon defects, electromagnetic properties, microwave absorption (MA) performance and radar cross section (RCS) reduction values. Remarkably, as-fabricated OMC/N2.5 displays ideal MA performance, whose minimum reflection loss (RL(min)) value reaches −35.3 dB at 7.76 GHz (3.0 mm) and its effective absorption bandwidth reaches 3.52 GHz (10.64–14.16 GHz, 2.0 mm). Furthermore, the optimal RCS reduction values can be obtained as 12.01 dB·m2 when the detection theta is 30°, which validly reduces the chances of being detected by radar. Thus, this work opens up a novel way for the development of lightweight and high-efficiency MA materials.

4. Ordered mesoporous carbon with hierarchical pore structure for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorber under thin matching thickness

Abstract: An enormous challenge exists in the development of low-density and efficient microwave absorbers with thin matching thickness. Carbon materials with hierarchical porosity are regarded as potential candidates for practical applications of microwave absorption (MA) materials on account of their rich pore structure which facilitates the entry and attenuation of electromagnetic waves. Herein, ordered mesoporous carbon with hierarchical interconnected network structure (NOMC) was prepared through a self-assembly method and calcination treatment. It was found that by adjusting the annealing temperature, the hierarchical porous structure, the carbon defect, the dielectric loss property and the MA property could be tuned. Thanks to the balance between sufficient hierarchical porous structure, outstanding impedance matching condition and multiple loss modes, NOMC displays outstanding ability to dissipate electromagnetic waves at a very thin absorbing coating thickness. Notably, as-prepared NOMC-700 displays an outstanding MA property, whose minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value reaches −27.5 dB at 16.72 GHz and the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) achieves 3.2 GHz (14.8–18 GHz) under 1.5 mm absorbing coatings. Hence, the satisfying design in porous microstructure can pave the way for efficient MA materials with thin matching thickness.

Abstract: Abstract Understanding the longitudinal dynamics of antibody immunity following heterologous SAR-CoV-2 breakthrough infection will inform the development of next-generation vaccines. Here, we track SARS-CoV-2 receptor binding domain (RBD)-specific antibody responses up to six months following Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection in six mRNA-vaccinated individuals. Cross-reactive serum neutralizing antibody and memory B cell (MBC) responses decline by two- to four-fold through the study period. Breakthrough infection elicits minimal de novo Omicron BA.1-specific B cell responses but drives affinity maturation of pre-existing cross-reactive MBCs toward BA.1, which translates into enhanced breadth of activity across other variants. Public clones dominate the neutralizing antibody response at both early and late time points following breakthough infection, and their escape mutation profiles predict newly emergent Omicron sublineages, suggesting that convergent antibody responses continue to shape SARS-CoV-2 evolution. While the study is limited by our relatively small cohort size, these results suggest that heterologous SARS-CoV-2 variant exposure drives the evolution of B cell memory, supporting the continued development of next-generation variant-based vaccines.

Abstract: Abstract We present in this paper a novel framework and distributed control laws for the formation of multiple unmanned rotorcraft systems, be it single-rotor helicopters or multi-copters, with physical constraints and with inter-agent collision avoidance, in cluttered environments. The proposed technique is composed of an analytical distributed consensus control solution in the free space and an optimization based motion planning algorithm for inter-agent and obstacle collision avoidance. More specifically, we design a distributed consensus control law to tackle a series of state constraints that include but not limited to the physical limitations of velocity, acceleration and jerk, and an optimization-based motion planning technique is utilized to generate numerical solutions when the consensus control fails to provide a collision-free trajectory. Besides, a sufficiency condition is given to guarantee the stability of the switching process between the consensus control and motion planning. Finally, both simulation and real flight experiments successfully demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

8. Dissecting the Genetic Basis of Yield Traits and Validation of a Novel Quantitative Trait Locus for Grain Width and Weight in Rice

Abstract: Grain yield in rice is a complex trait and it is controlled by a number of quantitative trait loci (QTL). To dissect the genetic basis of rice yield, QTL analysis for nine yield traits was performed using an F2 population containing 190 plants, which was developed from a cross between Youyidao (YYD) and Sanfenhe (SFH), and each plant in the population evaluated with respect to nine yield traits. In this study, the correlations among the nine yield traits were analyzed. The grain yield per plant positively correlated with six yield traits, except for grain length and grain width, and showed the highest correlation coefficient of 0.98 with the number of filled grains per plant. A genetic map containing 133 DNA markers was constructed and it spanned 1831.7 cM throughout 12 chromosomes. A total of 36 QTLs for the yield traits were detected on nine chromosomes, except for the remaining chromosomes 5, 8, and 9. The phenotypic variation was explained by a single QTL that ranged from 6.19% to 36.01%. Furthermore, a major QTL for grain width and weight, qGW2-1, was confirmed to be newly identified and was narrowed down to a relatively smaller interval of about ~2.94-Mb. Collectively, we detected a total of 36 QTLs for yield traits and a major QTL, qGW2-1, was confirmed to control grain weight and width, which laid the foundation for further map-based cloning and molecular design breeding in rice.

9. A variable sampling interval one-sided CUSUM control chart for monitoring the multivariate coefficient of variation

Abstract: Monitoring techniques based on the multivariate coefficients of variation (MCV) have received a great deal of attention in quality control. Numerous studies have shown that adaptively changing the charting parameters based on the past sample information can improve the performance of a chart in detecting process changes. In view of the performance benefits of adaptive strategies, two one-sided cumulative sum (CUSUM) charts are proposed to monitor the MCV and a variable sampling interval (VSI) strategy is incorporated into these charts. By using the Markov chain method, the formulas for calculating the average and standard deviation of time to signal measures of the VSI CUSUM MCV control charts are derived. Then for the known and unknown shift sizes, the optimization algorithms for obtaining the charting parameters are presented. The superiority of the proposed control charts is confirmed by comparing their performance with two existing MCV charts. Finally, an example using real investment data demonstrates the practical application of the proposed charts.

10. Plants at population edges enjoy longer mating distances: Implications for conservation practice

Abstract: Habitat fragmentation and population declines have led to increased population edges, exposing higher proportions of plants to ecotones. However, it remains a challenging question how edge plants perform compared with interior ones, as they usually experience dissimilar abiotic and biotic interactions. To address this question, we performed experiments on a monoecious herb (Sagittaria trifolia) focusing on the reproductive fitness and mating patterns of individuals at the edge of two common gardens established under varied light conditions (open vs. understory) with natural pollination. Plant female fitness was determined by seed production, whereas male fitness and mating patterns were resolved by paternity analysis employing eight microsatellite markers. Results showed that edge plants had lower pollinator visitation frequency than interior ones in both gardens. However, there was no significant reduction in female or male reproductive success of edge plants. Instead, edge plants enjoyed longer distances of effective pollen dispersal when reproduced as males, as well as longer distances of sires when reproduced as females. This pattern was consistent across habitats and years. Together, the results indicate that edge plants not only maintained a comparable level of reproduction as interior ones but also enjoyed greater mating distances, which would likely bring about higher genetic diversity in their offspring. This further implies that edge effects may play an important role in promoting gene exchange and encouraging population recovery.

11. Reconstructing the ecological restoration pattern from the perspective of ecosystem health assessment in a typical black soil region of Northeast China

Abstract: Assessments on the spatial pattern of ecological restoration potential provide insights into the current status of ecosystem health, facilitate the identification of hotspots of ecosystem degradation, and further serves as a link that bridges regional ecological planning with specific restoration efforts. The goal of this study was to reconstruct the ecological restoration pattern, through establishing an ecosystem health assessment model encompassing four elements of vigor, organization, resilience and service of an ecosystem. Siping City, a typical black soil region located in central Jilin Province of Northeast China, was selected as the study area, and ecological protection and restoration units were identified based on temporal changes in ecosystem health levels from 2000 to 2020. Getis-Ord Gi* analysis was adopted to classify the restoration zones and depict the spatial pattern of ecological restoration. From 2000 to 2020, the ecosystem health index of Siping City generally increased from 0.49 to 0.51 due to increases in forestland area and precipitation, but a fraction of suburban areas also experienced decreases. Four different restoration zones were delineated, including the windbreak and sand-fixing zone in the western part, the black soil protection and reclamation zone in the middle part, the Daheishan ecological shelter zone in the central and eastern part, and the water restoration zone in the eastern part, which account for 28.12%, 37.05%, 16.53% and 18.29% of the total area. The protection units covered an area of 1,189.83 km2 and the restoration units covered an area of 2009.83 km2, which could be further classified into 10 types and accounted for 31.24% of the total area. It was suggested that the restoration methods applied to different units should be tailored towards specific restoration objectives. This proposed methodological framework serves as a basis for reconstructing ecological restoration in the black soil region, and a reference for making restoration plans elsewhere.

13. Association between vigorous physical activity and life satisfaction in adolescents

Abstract: PurposeThe association between overall physical activity (PA) and life satisfaction has been confirmed in adolescents. However, the associations between different forms of PA at various intensities and life satisfaction are under-studied. This study aimed to explore the association between vigorous PA (VPA) and life satisfaction, and whether the associations vary by gender and age.MethodsUsing data from the Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HSBC) investigation, the research samples of 11- to 15-year-old adolescents were included for further. The information on VPA was collected via two self-reported questions, including frequency per week and hours per week. Life satisfaction was assessed by a ladder of 0–10 scores, with being higher indicating better life satisfaction. Logistic models were carried out to analyse the association between VPA and life satisfaction among adolescents, and results were presented with odd ratio (OR) and associated 95% confidence interval.ResultsAmong the 214,080 (49.2% male) adolescents studied, both boy and girl participants reporting higher frequency of VPA per week were more likely to be associated with higher life satisfaction (e.g., in boys, VPA for every day: OR = 1.054; in girls: VPA for every day: OR = 1.047). More hours of VPA was also associated with better life satisfaction in adolescents (in overall sample, 7 h or more: OR = 1.178).ConclusionsIn conclusion, this research provided evidence on the roles of VPA on life satisfaction among adolescents aged 11–15. Considering life satisfaction is regarded as an indicator of adolescents' psychological health development, our study supports and extends the evidence for the importance of VPA in adolescence.

Abstract: Summary: The rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants poses a constant threat of escape from monoclonal antibody and vaccine countermeasures. Mutations in the ACE2 receptor binding site on the surface S protein have been shown to disrupt antibody binding and prevent viral neutralization. Here, we used a directed evolution-based approach to engineer three neutralizing antibodies for enhanced binding to S protein. The engineered antibodies showed increased in vitro functional activity in terms of neutralization potency and/or breadth of neutralization against viral variants. Deep mutational scanning revealed that higher binding affinity reduces the total number of viral escape mutations. Studies in the Syrian hamster model showed two examples where the affinity-matured antibody provided superior protection compared to the parental antibody. These data suggest that monoclonal antibodies for antiviral indications would benefit from affinity maturation to reduce viral escape pathways and appropriate affinity maturation in vaccine immunization could help resist viral variation.

Abstract: ABSTRACTThe recently identified Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) causes severe and fatal acute respiratory illness in humans. However, no approved prophylactic and therapeutic interventions are currently available. The MERS-CoV envelope spike protein serves as a crucial target for neutralizing antibodies and vaccine development, as it plays a critical role in mediating viral entry through interactions with the cellular receptor, dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4). Here, we constructed a recombinant rare serotype of the chimpanzee adenovirus 68 (AdC68) that expresses full-length MERS-CoV S protein (AdC68-S). Single intranasal immunization with AdC68-S induced robust and sustained neutralizing antibody and T cell responses in BALB/c mice. In a human DPP4 knock-in (hDPP4-KI) mouse model, it completely protected against lethal challenge with a mouse-adapted MERS-CoV (MERS-CoV-MA). Passive transfer of immune sera to naïve hDPP4-KI mice also provided survival advantages from lethal MERS-CoV-MA challenge. Analysis of sera absorption and isolated monoclonal antibodies from immunized mice demonstrated that the potent and broad neutralizing activity was largely attributed to antibodies targeting the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the S protein. These results show that AdC68-S can induce protective immune responses in mice and represent a promising candidate for further development against MERS-CoV infection in both dromedaries and humans.

Abstract: Vanadium sesquioxide (V2O3) exhibits a metal–insulator transition (MIT) at 160 K between a low temperature, monoclinic, antiferromagnetic Mott insulator and a high temperature, rhombohedral, paramagnetic, metallic phase. In thin films, a percolative transition takes place over a finite temperature range of phase coexistence. We study the fluctuating dynamics of this percolative MIT by measuring voltage noise spectra at both low frequencies (up to 100 kHz) and radio frequencies (between 10 MHz and 1 GHz). Noise intensity quadratic in bias is observed in the MIT region, as expected for resistive fluctuations probed nonperturbatively by the current. The low frequency noise resembles flicker-type 1/fβ noise, often taking on the form of Lorentzian noise dominated by a small number of fluctuators as the volume fraction of the insulating phase dominates. Radio frequency noise intensity also quadratic in the bias current allows the identification of resistance fluctuations with lifetimes below 1 ns, approaching timescales seen in non-equilibrium pump–probe studies of the transition. We find quantitative consistency with a model for fluctuations in the percolative fraction. The thermodynamics of the MIT suggests that dominant fluctuations are ones that alter small volumes affecting the connectivity of domain boundaries. This noise serves as a sensitive and nonperturbative probe for the dynamics of switching phenomena in this system.

Abstract: Summary: The major mechanism of antibody-mediated neutralization of the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) involves competition with the cellular receptor dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) for binding to the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike (S) glycoprotein. Here, we report a unique epitope and unusual neutralizing mechanism of the isolated human antibody MERS-4. Structurally, MERS-4 approached the RBD from the outside of the RBD-DPP4 binding interface. Such binding resulted in the folding of the β5-β6 loop toward a shallow groove on the RBD interface critical for accommodating DPP4. The key residues for binding are identified through site-directed mutagenesis. Structural modeling revealed that MERS-4 binds to RBD only in the “up” position in the S trimer. Furthermore, MERS-4 demonstrated synergy with several reported antibodies. These results indicate that MERS-4 neutralizes MERS-CoV by indirect rather than direct competition with DPP4. This mechanism provides a valuable addition for the combined use of antibodies against MERS-CoV infection. : Zhang et al. report the structural and functional analysis of the potent MERS-CoV neutralizing antibody MERS-4. Abstract: Abstract Background Genistein has been known to inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis in several kinds of cancer cells. While knowledge of genistein in regulating epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) of colon cancer cells is unknown. Methods To investigate the effects and mechanisms of genistein on EMT of colon cancer cells, HT-29 cells were used and treated by genistein and TNF-α in this paper. EMT was determined by cell invasion assays using a transwell chamber and the expression changes of EMT-related markers were confirmed by RT–PCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence staining. Results Genistein inhibited cell migration at 200 μmol/L. Genistein reversed the EMT of colon cancer cells by upregulation of E-cadherin and downregulation of N-cadherin, accompanied by the suppression of EMT related makers, such as Snail2/slug, ZEB1, ZEB2, FOXC1, FOXC2 and TWIST1. Moreover, genistein can inhibit the expression of notch-1, p-NF-κB and NF-κB, while promote the expression of Bax/Bcl-2 and caspase-3 in HT-29 cells. Conclusion The present study demonstrated that genistein suppressed the migration of colon cancer cells by reversal the EMT via suppressing the Notch1/NF-κB/slug/E-cadherin pathway. Genistein may be developed as a potential antimetastasis agent to colon cancer.

Abstract: Recently identified broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) show great potential for clinical interventions against HIV-1 infection. However, resistant strains may impose substantial challenges. Here, we report on the identification and characterization of a panel of HIV-1 strains with broad and potent resistance against a large number of bnAbs, particularly those targeting the CD4-binding site (CD4bs). Site-directed mutagenesis revealed that several key epitope mutations facilitate resistance and are located in the inner domain, loop D, and β23/loop V5/β24 of HIV-1 gp120. The resistance is largely correlated with binding affinity of antibodies to the envelope trimers expressed on the cell surface. Our results therefore demonstrate the existence of broadly resistant HIV-1 strains against CD4bs neutralizing antibodies. Abstract: INTRODUCTION: It is rare for intraductal papilloma (IDP), a benign papillary tumor, to occur in the sublingual gland (SLG). CASE SUMMARY: A 55-year-old man incidentally found a painless mass in his left submandibular region (SMR). He had a history of two surgeries for bilateral SLG cyst. Contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were performed. The patient received trans-cervical excision of left residual SLG in combination with excision of left submandibular gland (SMG). The postoperative course was uneventful and no signs of recurrence during 5 months of follow-up. DISCUSSION: For a SMR mass, extraoral type of IDP in SLG should be considered in the differential diagnosis.

Abstract: Hydrogen storage alloys (HSAs) are attracting widespread interest in the nuclear industry because of the generation of stable metal hydrides after tritium absorption, thus effectively preventing the leakage of radioactive tritium. Commonly used HSAs in the hydrogen isotopes field are Zr2M (M = Co, Ni, Fe) alloys, metallic Pd, depleted U, and ZrCo alloy. Specifically, Zr2M (M = Co, Ni, Fe) alloys are considered promising tritium-getter materials, and metallic Pd is utilized to separate and purify hydrogen isotopes. Furthermore, depleted U and ZrCo alloy are well suited for storing and delivering hydrogen isotopes. Notably, all the aforementioned HSAs need to modulate their hydrogen storage properties for complex operating conditions. In this review, we present a comprehensive overview of the reported modification methods applied to the above alloys. Alloying is an effective amelioration method that mainly modulates the properties of HSAs by altering their local geometrical/electronic structures. Besides, microstructural modifications such as nano-sizing and nanopores have been used to increase the specific surface area and active sites of metallic Pd and ZrCo alloys for enhancing de-/hydrogenation kinetics. The combination of metallic Pd with support materials can significantly reduce the cost and enhance the pulverization resistance. Moreover, the poisoning resistance of ZrCo alloy is improved by constructing active surfaces with selective permeability. Overall, the review is constructive for better understanding the properties and mechanisms of hydrogen isotope storage alloys and provides effective guidance for future modification research. Abstract: SummaryDeveloping broad coronavirus vaccines requires identifying and understanding the molecular basis of broadly neutralizing antibody (bnAb) spike sites. In our previous work, we identified sarbecovirus spike RBD group 1 and 2 bnAbs. We have now shown that many of these bnAbs can still neutralize highly mutated SARS-CoV-2 variants, including the XBB.1.5. Structural studies revealed that group 1 bnAbs use recurrent germline encoded CDRH3 features to interact with a conserved RBD region that overlaps with class 4 bnAb site. Group 2 bnAbs recognize a less well-characterized "site V" on the RBD and destabilize spike trimer. The site V has remained largely unchanged in SARS-CoV- 2 variants and is highly conserved across diverse sarbecoviruses, making it a promising target for broad coronavirus vaccine development. Our findings suggest that targeted vaccine strategies may be needed to induce effective B cell responses to escape resistant subdominant spike RBD bnAb sites.

Abstract: To reduce the cost and modulate hydrogen storage performances of Ti-based Laves phase alloys for the application of inputting 3.2 MPa feed hydrogen and outputting 8 MPa hydrogen with water bath, three series of less-vanadium Ti–Zr–Mn–Cr–V based alloys were prepared by induction levitation melting, and their microstructure and hydrogen storage properties were systematically investigated. All alloys consist of a single C14-type Laves phase with well-distributed elements. With vanadium decreasing in Ti0.95Zr0.05Mn0.9+xCr0.9+xV0.2-2x (x = 0–0.02) and Ti0.93Zr0.07Mn1.1+yCr0.7+zV0.2-y-z (y = 0, 0.05, z = 0–0.05) stoichiometric alloys, the hydrogen equilibrium pressure increases and hydrogenation kinetics is slightly deteriorated. After introducing Ti hyper-stoichiometry, Ti0.93+wZr0.07Mn1.15Cr0.7V0.15 (w = 0–0.04) alloys show decreased hydrogen equilibrium pressure, high hydrogen capacity and enhanced kinetics. Among alloys mentioned, Ti0.95Zr0.07Mn1.15Cr0.7V0.15 has optimum performances including useable capacity of 1.07 wt% at working conditions, together with satisfactory cycling durability. Abstract: Addition of methyl group(s) to either or both aromatic rings of fenamic acid (FA) afforded three FA derivatives (1–3), designed to investigate the effect on the polymorphic behavior of these compounds exerted by substitution. A relatively comprehensive polymorph screen led to the discovery of four polymorphs for compound 3, for which substitution took place on both aromatic rings, in contrast to the production of either two or one form(s) for compounds 1 and 2, both of which are mono-substituted. The observation indicated that both substitution position and pattern are important in the polymorphism of these compounds. The thermal properties of each system were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Conformational scans and Hirshfeld surface analyses were performed to study the mechanism of polymorphism and the intermolecular interactions contributing to the stability of each crystal form.

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate a formation control problem of multi-agent systems (specifically a group of unmanned aerial vehicles) based on a semi-global leader-following consensus approach with both the leader and the followers subject to input saturation. Utilizing the low gain feedback design technique, a distributed static control protocol and a distributed adaptive control protocol are constructed. The former solves the problem under an assumption that the communication network is undirected, and it depends on the global information of the graph. For the latter, we relax the undirected graph to directed graph. Moreover, an adaptive updating gain is designed to avoid using the global information of the communication network. It is shown that the consensus protocols can solve the semi-global leader-following consensus problem if the leader agent is globally reachable. The results are verified successfully by both simulation and real flight tests.

Abstract: A major challenge in understanding SARS-CoV-2 evolution is interpreting the antigenic and functional effects of emerging mutations in the viral spike protein. Here we describe a new deep mutational scanning platform based on non-replicative pseudotyped lentiviruses that directly quantifies how large numbers of spike mutations impact antibody neutralization and pseudovirus infection. We demonstrate this new platform by making libraries of the Omicron BA.1 and Delta spikes. These libraries each contain ~7000 distinct amino-acid mutations in the context of up to ~135,000 unique mutation combinations. We use these libraries to map escape mutations from neutralizing antibodies targeting the receptor binding domain, N-terminal domain, and S2 subunit of spike. Overall, this work establishes a high-throughput and safe approach to measure how ~105combinations of mutations affect antibody neutralization and spike-mediated infection. Notably, the platform described here can be extended to the entry proteins of many other viruses.

Abstract: Understanding the longitudinal dynamics of antibody immunity following heterologous SAR-CoV-2 breakthrough infection will inform the development of next-generation vaccines. Here, we track SARS-CoV-2 receptor binding domain (RBD)-specific antibody responses up to six months following Omicron BA.1 breakthrough infection in six mRNA-vaccinated individuals. Cross-reactive serum neutralizing antibody and memory B cell (MBC) responses decline by two- to four-fold through the study period. Breakthrough infection elicits minimal de novo Omicron BA.1-specific B cell responses but drives affinity maturation of pre-existing cross-reactive MBCs toward BA.1, which translates into enhanced breadth of activity across other variants. Public clones dominate the neutralizing antibody response at both early and late time points following breakthough infection, and their escape mutation profiles predict newly emergent Omicron sublineages, suggesting that convergent antibody responses continue to shape SARS-CoV-2 evolution. While the study is limited by our relatively small cohort size, these results suggest that heterologous SARS-CoV-2 variant exposure drives the evolution of B cell memory, supporting the continued development of next-generation variant-based vaccines.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Among patients with stable coronary disease and moderate or severe ischemia, whether clinical outcomes are better in those who receive an invasive intervention plus medical therapy than in those who receive medical therapy alone is uncertain. METHODS: We randomly assigned 5179 patients with moderate or severe ischemia to an initial invasive strategy (angiography and revascularization when feasible) and medical therapy or to an initial conservative strategy of medical therapy alone and angiography if medical therapy failed. The primary outcome was a composite of death from cardiovascular causes, myocardial infarction, or hospitalization for unstable angina, heart failure, or resuscitated cardiac arrest. A key secondary outcome was death from cardiovascular causes or myocardial infarction. RESULTS: Over a median of 3.2 years, 318 primary outcome events occurred in the invasive-strategy group and 352 occurred in the conservative-strategy group. At 6 months, the cumulative event rate was 5.3% in the invasive-strategy group and 3.4% in the conservative-strategy group (difference, 1.9 percentage points; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.8 to 3.0); at 5 years, the cumulative event rate was 16.4% and 18.2%, respectively (difference, -1.8 percentage points; 95% CI, -4.7 to 1.0). Results were similar with respect to the key secondary outcome. The incidence of the primary outcome was sensitive to the definition of myocardial infarction; a secondary analysis yielded more procedural myocardial infarctions of uncertain clinical importance. There were 145 deaths in the invasive-strategy group and 144 deaths in the conservative-strategy group (hazard ratio, 1.05; 95% CI, 0.83 to 1.32). CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with stable coronary disease and moderate or severe ischemia, we did not find evidence that an initial invasive strategy, as compared with an initial conservative strategy, reduced the risk of ischemic cardiovascular events or death from any cause over a median of 3.2 years. The trial findings were sensitive to the definition of myocardial infarction that was used. Abstract: Efficient hydrogen production plays a key role in establishing hydrogen economy in the current world. In this study, we fabricated ultrafine RuO2 nanoparticles on carbon black to form a strawberry-like RuO2/C hybrid, using by a solid-phase grinding and subsequent low-temperature annealing. The synthesized hybrid displays very low reaction activation energy (28.5 KJ mol−1) for hydrogen evolution from ammonia borane. In case of hydrogen evolution from alkaline water, it also exhibits a remarkably improved electrocatalytic activity than a commercial Pt/C, with an ultra-low overpotential of 8 mV (at 10 mA cm−2). For the above bifunctional catalyst, the formed C–Ru–C bonds between the ruthenium oxide and carbon result in the ultrahigh activity of the hybrid, as evidenced by DFT results. This work offers a guideline to synthesize efficient metal-based (Ru, Pd, Rh, Ir, Au, etc.) catalysts with smart structures for catalysis.

Abstract: Ti0.85Zr0.17Cr1.2-xFe0.8Vx (x = 0–0.2), Ti0.85Zr0.17Cr1.2-yFe0.7+yV0.1 (y = 0–0.25) and Ti0.87-zZr0.15+zCr0.95Fe0.95V0.1 (z = 0–0.04) alloys for metal hydride hydrogen compressor at moderate working temperatures were prepared by induction levitation melting. Their microstructures and hydrogen storage properties were systematically investigated. The results show that all Ti–Zr–Cr–Fe–V based alloys have a single C14 Laves phase structure. As the V content in the Ti0.85Zr0.17Cr1.2-xFe0.8Vx (x = 0–0.2) alloys increases, better activation kinetics and larger hydrogen storage capacity are achieved, while the plateau pressure decreases and the plateau slope factor increases. Similarly, the hydrogen storage capacity, the plateau pressure and the plateau slope factor of the Ti0.87-zZr0.15+zCr0.95Fe0.95V0.1 (z = 0–0.04) alloys vary identically with Zr content increasing. Conversely, these three properties vary oppositely with increasing Fe content in the Ti0.85Zr0.17Cr1.2-yFe0.7+yV0.1 (y = 0–0.25) alloys. Among the studied alloys, Ti0.85Zr0.17Cr0.95Fe0.95V0.1 possesses the best overall properties for the designed moderate hydrogen compression application.
