The aim of this study was to determine the effects of age and sex on the difference between chronological age (CA) and dental age (DA) predicted using the Demirjian and Willems methods in Taiwanese children. A total of 232 periapical X-ray images were obtained from children aged 5–12 years in Taiwan. Among them, 119 were boys, and 113 were girls. DA was calculated on the basis of the X-ray images of permanent teeth by using the aforementioned methods. The children were stratified by age (5–9 years [early mixed dentition period] vs. 10–12 years [late mixed dentition period]) and sex (boys vs. girls). Statistical analyses were performed to investigate potential age- and sex-based differences in the correlation between CA and DA. No significant difference was observed between the mean CA and DA predicted using the Willems method in children with late mixed dentition and in girls. However, the correlation between CA and DA was stronger in children with early mixed dentition than in those with late mixed dentition and also stronger in boys than in girls. For children in mid-Taiwan, age and sex influence the development of permanent teeth. In addition, the correlation between DA and CA is relatively strong for boys in the early mixed dentition period. Due to deep learning's success in many medical applications, it is regarded as a significant technique for use in the area of dentistry, where several panoramic X-ray images are frequently used to assess oral health and identify disorders that damage the teeth and bones (e.g., cavities). In order to give diagnostic information for the management of dental problems and diseases, automatic segmentation is a crucial role in medical image processing and analysis. There are just a few datasets for panoramic radiograph images now accessible, according to the state of the art. For this endeavor we present a real dataset composed of 107 panoramic x-ray image were collected from two dental clinics and annotated. A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was trained using the annotated data for identification and instance segmentation. which enables the development of deep learning-based automatic tooth detection systems to segment teeth and assess oral status. Mask-RCNN is a deep CNN model for object detection, object localization, and object instance segmentation of medical images. In this paper, we demonstrate that Mask-RCNN can be used to perform highly effective and efficient automatic segmentation and identification of the tooth from panoramic radiographs images. The performance of the implemented networks is 90% of mean average precision (mAP), 63% of F1-sores and 96% of precision. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

X-ray imaging plays a pivotal role in clinical diagnostics by facilitating tasks ranging from organ segmentation to disease detection. With the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), the capabilities of X-ray analysis have been greatly enhanced. However, acquiring a comprehensive dataset for training AI models remains challenging due to various factors including patient privacy, radiation exposure, and cost constraints. To overcome this hurdle, researchers have turned to create synthetic X-ray datasets. In dental imaging, the synthesis of Panoramic X-rays (PXs) poses unique challenges owing to the intricate nature of the oral cavity and the inherent diversity among patients. Existing efforts predominantly rely on Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) or phantoms for such tasks. Synthesizing PX can be beneficial when the PX imaging cannot be performed immediately or when dentists need to find a one-to-one correspondence between PX and CBCT. This review paper comprehensively examines the methodologies employed for synthesizing dental PXs, specifically, automated synthesis, elucidating the methods utilized and the associated advantages, limitations, and potential clinical applications in routine practice. By shedding light on these approaches, this review aims to provide valuable insights for researchers and practitioners in the dental imaging domain.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of dental panoramic radiography for dental arch evaluation in small animals. The dental arches of four Beagles, one Shih Tzu dog, and three Korean short-haired cats were radiographed using human panoramic X-rays. All animals were under general anaesthesia during the examination. The animals' heads were placed horizontal to the panoramic device, just as a human's head is placed in panoramic dental assessments. All animals were evaluated with an open and closed mouth view (human view). In the closed mouth view, the animal was provided a bite blocker for proper placement of the oral cavity. The open mouth view angle was approximately 30-45°. The maxilla and mandible were held in position with radiolucent 3M tape. The standard scoring measurement was performed based on visibility of the tooth root and the sharpness of the dento-alveolar margin. No significant differences in scoring were noticed between the two positions. The visibility of teeth roots in Beagles was far better than that in the Shih Tzu dogs and two Korean short-haired cats. In addition, the Beagle series showed sharp dento-alveolar margin scores. These results suggest that human panoramic dental X-rays represent a possible dental evaluation tool for animals with large skulls.

MENTAL foramen ,RADIOGRAPHY ,ENDODONTICS ,MANDIBLE ,BICUSPIDS ,LOCAL anesthesia - Abstract
Background: Evaluation of the position of foramen mentale has great significance and it is very important aids in endodontic, oral-surgical, periodontal interventions, as well as diagnostic procedures. Thus, in view of this, the present study was conducted among the population in North Macedonia, to determine the most common location of the mental foramen and to estimate difference in position of foramen mentale in correlation with the second lower premolar teeth. The mental foramen is an opening located on the external surface of the mandible in the region of the mandibular premolars. Radiographically the foramen mentale can be as an oval or round radiolucent zone in the inferior part of corpus mandible on lateral sides, on the left and right side. Panoramic radiographs are the most commonly used extra-oral radiographic aids in dentistry since they provide a rapid and wide picture of mandible and the maxilla in the same time. This technique allows the adequate localization of foramen mentale. The main aim of study is to evaluate the position of the mental foramen and its relationship with mandibular premolars among the population in Republic of North Macedonia Material and method: A total number of 250 panoramic radiographs were evaluated for the positioning of the mental foramen. When assessing the position of the mental foramen, its position is determined in relation with the mandibular premolars and the mandibular median line. All radiographic images in which can not be localized and confirmed the presence of the mental aperture was also excluded from the examination. The examination was performed on a negatoscope if it is classical panoramic x-ray or adequate software used for digital panoramic x-rays. If necessary, magnification was used for magnification of the images. The relationship of foramen mentale with the lower premolars was given according to the following classification: (1) if the position of foramen mentale is distally from the line that passes between the second premolar and the first molar in the lower jaw-first class; (2) if the position of foramen mentale is between the vertical central axis of the second premolar and the passing line between the second premolar and the first molar in the lower jaw- second class; (3) if the position of the foramen mentale is between the vertical axis of the second premolar and the line passing between the first and second premolars in the lower jaw- third class; (4) if the position of foramen mentale is between the line that passes between the first and second premolars in the lower jaw and the vertical central axis of the first premolar-fourth class and if the position of foramen mentale is mesially from the vertical center axis of the first premolar- fifth class. Results: On the basis of the data from our research, it is noted that in near 60%, foramen mentale is positioned between the roots of the first and second lower premolars. The most common position for foramen mentale is the third class (which means that foramen mentale is between the vertical axis of the second premolar and the line passing between the first and second premolars in the lower jaw). Conclusion: In conclusion, the present results showed variations in position of foramen mentale. So it must be noted that local differences in foramen mentale position may occur in a population. This variability should alert the oral surgeons while performing oral surgical and periodontal interventions. If the studies related to variations in the position of foramen mentale are carried out in larger numbers, this data will be reliable for dental medicine clinicians, and with this type of information the possibility of complications will be minimized. Highlights • A novel algorithm is presented in this study for segmentation. • The study was multidisciplinary and useful results were obtained for legal medicine. • In this study, not only age but also gender was determination. • The database was created manually and the database is the largest in the literature. • Segmentation process is done automatically and dynamically. Abstract It may be necessary to determine the identity or gender of a person for any reason (disasters, inheritance etc.). In such cases, forensic medical institutions are asked for help. Forensic science institutions try to estimate the age of people's teeth and bones. In this study, a novel algorithm was developed to keep these predictions at the highest level and to obtain definite results. The data base of 162 different tooth classes is created manually. All image sizes are 150×150 pixels. First, image preprocessing techniques have been applied to teeth images. These preprocessing techniques were first applied to teeth images. After this process, the segmentation process of the teeth images was performed to extract the feature by novel segmentation algorithm. Segmentation can be done automatically and dynamically. Numerical data obtained as a result of feature extraction from dental images is presented as an inputs to Multi layer perceptron neural network. In application, feature reduction can be performed. Thanks to the originally developed algorithm, the highest success rates were obtained with the highest 99.9% (full segment) and 100% (notfull segment) classification. After classification, for many dental groups the age estimate is performed with zero error. Application was developed as a multidisciplinary study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mental foramen (MF), located in the body of mandible in the region below the inferior premolars, is the anatomical structure through which the mental neurovascular bundle emerges. The MF can be seen clearly in panoramic X-rays. The object of the present study was to carry out a literature review in order to identify the frequency and position of the MF in panoramic Xrays. We looked for articles in the SCiELO, Pubmed, Scopus, LILACS, Web of Science and EBSCOhost databases, for the years 2006 to 2016. The key words used were "mental foramen", "mandibular canal", "inferior alveolar nerve", "anatomy" and "panoramic X-ray". Once the articles had been selected, an analysis was made of their methodological quality; poor-quality articles were excluded. In each article the frequency and position of the MF in each hemi-mandible was analyzed. We found 82 articles, of which 20 were retained after application of the exclusion criteria. The MF was found in 4,824 hemi-mandibles (95.2 %), with greater presence on the left side (50.29 %) than the right (49.71 %). The MF is most commonly located between the apices of the inferior premolars (42.22 %), coincident with the root of the second inferior premolar (33.98 %) or distal of the root of the second inferior premolar (10.98 %). The MF is a very frequent anatomical structure. Knowledge of its location is fundamental for reducing the risk of accidents and unexpected events during clinical and surgical manoeuvres. In addition, the Beagle series showed sharp dento-alveolar margin scores. These results suggest that human panoramic dental X-rays represent a possible dental evaluation tool for animals with large skulls. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Görüntü işleme ve Yolov5 hibrit modelinin uygulanması sonucunda elde edilen karar destek sistemi diş kliniklerinde kullanılabilecektir., The acids produced by the bacteria in the mouth cause dental caries by disrupting the mineral tissue of the teeth. Over time, bacteria accumulate in the mouth of people and these bacteria combine with food. When adequate care is not given to oral care, tooth enamel is damaged and tooth decay occurs. Until recently, infected teeth were extracted in order not to damage other areas. However, thanks to developing imaging techniques, the number and success rate of treatments applied without tooth extraction has increased rapidly. Tooth decay affects people's lives negatively. In this study, it is aimed to quickly detect dental caries on x-ray images and to minimize the tooth loss of the patients. Treatment methods applied using dental images and deep learning models are divided into filling, canal and bridge classes. In addition, it is aimed to increase the performance of deep learning models by applying the Luv-v channel and adaptive histogram equalization process as a preprocessing to tooth images. After segmentation processes on the data set consisting of 553 dental x-rays, experimental studies were carried out with Faster R-CNN and Yolov5 models, which are deep learning models. As a result of the experimental studies; while Faster R-CNN reached %86.7 accuracy, Yolov5 model achieved %92.7 accuracy. The decision support system obtained as a result of image processing and application of the Yolov5 hybrid model can be used in dental clinics.

Hyperdontia is one of the more studied anomalies of human dentition. This alteration represents the appearance of one or more teeth in a number greater of normal, occurring in mandible or in maxilla and could be unilateral or bilateral. The etiology of supernumerary teeth may be explained mainly due to the hyperactivity of dental plate in its initial phase; its early detection is important because of there have been a series of complications that may to cause diastemata, eruption retard or impacted teeth, inappropriate positioning of permanent teeth, occlusal misalignment and the development of odontogenic cysts or tumors. Thus, the diagnosis is normally made from a conventional radiographic examination, mainly the panoramic X-ray. The objective of present paper is the present four clinical cases of patients presenting with supernumerary molars, seen in the Radiology Service during the course of stomatology of the Federal University of Ceará.

Our pourpose was to compare the radiographic diagnostics observed in bitewing and panoramic techniques in a sample of 50 adult patients' x-rays, examined by the same observer. On the panoramic it was analyzed the area corresponding bitewings, looking for coincident diagnostics. Furthermore it was evaluated the additional information supplied by panoramic technique. The proportion of coincident diagnostics in panoramic and bitewings was significantly larger suggesting no differences between bitewings and panoramic as a diagnostic resource. When analyzing the area not inclued by bitewings on the panoramic it was found 3,72 diagnostics per patient that would request treatment or follow-up., Foram comparados os diagnósticos radiográficos obtidos pelas técnicas interproximal e panorâmica na área de abrangência da primeira, bem como avaliados os diagnósticos adicionais fornecidos pela última, em uma amostra constituída por radiografias de 50 pacientes adultos, examinadas pelo mesmo observador.

WOS: 000459131600013, It may be necessary to determine the identity or gender of a person for any reason (disasters, inheritance etc.). In such cases, forensic medical institutions are asked for help. Forensic science institutions try to estimate the age of people's teeth and bones. In this study, a novel algorithm was developed to keep these predictions at the highest level and to obtain definite results. The data base of 162 different tooth classes is created manually. All image sizes are 150x150 pixels. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. The purpose of this study was to sequentially evaluate bone union of fibular grafts in mandibular reconstruction. Patients who underwent routine follow-up computed tomography (CT) and panoramic X-ray imaging during a period of ≥2 years were enrolled. On panoramic X-ray images, bone union was scored as 0 (absent callus formation) or 1 (complete callus formation). On CT images, a scale of 0 to 2 was used (0, absent callus formation; 1, complete callus formation only on the labial side; 2, complete callus formation on both the labial and lingual side). A total of 56 bone junctions were evaluated in 20 patients. Five of 56 junctions (9%) in four of 20 patients (20%) showed radiological non-union (panoramic X-ray score = 0, CT score = 0 or 1) at 2 years after surgery. All bone junctions with radiological non-union were located at the mandibular angle. No categorical values, including diabetes mellitus and radiation therapy, were significantly associated with radiological non-union. In conclusion, assessing at least two sides (i.e. labial and lingual sides) on CT images is adequate to evaluate bone union in transferred fibula flaps. Careful fixation at the mandibular angle may improve the rate of bone union. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The orthopantomogram allows for the classification of impacted lower third molars according to depth, the spatial relationship with the ramus and the root relationship/mandibular canal. The aim of this study was to show the role of orthopantomography in the prediction of the difficulties encountered in the extraction of impacted lower third molars using the Pederson scale. Material and Method: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study in the Oral Surgery Service of the Dentistry Department at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar. The study was done between October 2012 and February 2013. 62 patients were involved. Results: The age group 15-25 was the most represented (57%). The mean age of patients was 26 ± 9 years with extremes of 15 and 73 years. Lower third molars with two roots accounted for 92%. Horizontal angulation (44%) and mesial angulation (35%) were the most represented. Half of the sample exhibited a depth of inclusion of position A (54%). The position I represented 40% of cases. In 33% of cases there was no contact between the roots and the mandibular canal. Conclusion: The orthopantomogram allows grading of the difficulty level for third molar extraction, using the Pederson scale. In our sample, extraction was difficult in 69% of the cases, moderate in 21% and easy in 33%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Utilization of panoramic X-ray device is getting wider. Panoramic X-ray has low resolution than general X-ray device and it occurs to distortion by deviation of image synthesis. Due to structural problems, it has been used restrictively to identify of tooth structure, not for whole head. Therefore, it designed and produced panoramic X-ray device which is possible to diagnostic coverage can be extended and had to be adjusted interval control between X-ray generator and image processing for whole of Maxillofacia's diagnosis. Produced panoramic X-ray device is composed basically of short image synthesis. In addition, it was confirmed the results by used the device which was applied deviation of the brightness of the image, filter to improve the location of the deviation and interpolation method. In this study, it was used 13 images including the front. It occurs to brightness deviation, position deviation, and geometric correction when synthesis of image, but it had been solved by deviation improvement software and a change of CCD camera's scan line which is used for image acquisition. Therefore, it confirmed expansion possibility of utilization range to commonly used panoramic X-ray device. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Evaluate axial mesiodistal inclinations of the mandibular molars in orthodontically treated cases, analyzing whether inclusion of second mandibular molars in treatment mechanics has any influence on final and postretention molars angulations. Methods: The sample comprised 150 panoramic radiographs of 50 patients. Patients were treated with extraction of four first premolars and divided into 2 groups: Group 1 comprised 25 subjects without inclusion of mandibular second molars during orthodontic treatment, whereas Group 2 comprised 25 subjects with inclusion of mandibular second molars. Panoramic radiographs at three observation times were evaluated: pretreatment, posttreatment and postretention. The statistical analysis included one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for intragroup evaluation and independent t-tests for intergroup comparisons. Results: Intragroup analysis demonstrated significant uprighting of mandibular first and second molars during treatment in Group 2, which remained stable during the postretention stage. Intergroup comparison demonstrated that Group 2 presented first and second molars significantly more uprighted in relation to Group 1 in both post-treatment and postretention stages. Conclusions: It was concluded that inclusion of mandibular second molars in the orthodontic mechanics is relevant not only to correct the angulation of these teeth, but also to aid mandibular first molars uprighting. The mental foramen (MF), located in the body of mandible in the region below the inferior premolars, is the anatomical structure through which the mental neurovascular bundle emerges. The MF can be seen clearly in panoramic X-rays. The object of the present study was to carry out a literature review in order to identify the frequency and position of the MF in panoramic X-rays.

A dental examination was included in a mainly medically oriented population study of women in Gothenburg, Sweden. From panoramic radiographs the numbers of remaining teeth, restored teeth (fillings and crowns), pontics, and endodontically treated teeth were assessed in 1968-69 and in a 12-yr follow-up study in 1980-81. Women aged 38, 46, 50, 54 and 60 yr were initially studied. In the follow-up study, a group of 38-yr-old women was added. A comparison between cross-sectional data in 1968-69 and in 1980-81 in women aged 38 and 50 yr showed some marked differences. Dentulous women of the same age had in 1980-81 a larger mean number of teeth and a larger number of restored teeth (including crowns). The number of restored teeth in relation to remaining teeth was the same in the 38- yr-old women in 1980--81 but had increased in the 50-yr-olds. The absolute and relative numbers (in relation to remaining teeth) of crowns (also studied separately), pontics, and endodontically treated teeth were about the same in 1968-69 and 1980 81 both for the 38-yr-olds and the 50-yr-olds. There was a slight but statistically significant increase only in the absolute number of crowns for the 50-yr-olds. The follow-up study showed a moderate decrease of remaining teeth in all age groups. Related to remaining teeth, the number of restored teeth (including crowns), crowns, pontics, and endodontically treated teeth showed a statistically significant increase for all age groups except for the oldest, in which group a significant increase was only observed for crowns. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological characteristics of unilateral permanent mandibular second molars impacted, in a sample from Medellín, Colombia. It was a retrospective study in which we evaluated panoramic radiographs of 6785 patients, for a total of 28 radiographs analyzed in the final sample. The mandibular second molar impacted (study group) and the contralateral not impacted (control group) were correlated, with respect to three reference angles (intermolar, of the oclussal plane and interplanar), sex and impaction side. We found a prevalence of 3.5 for every 1000 radiographs evaluated. The most frequent side of impaction was the right side; two of the three angular measurements (intermolar and interplanar) had the biggest differences between the study and control group. We did not find significant statistical differences between males and females. It was concluded that the prevalence of impacted permanent mandibular second molars is low, there is a highest impaction in the right side, there are no differences between genders, and the use of the interplanar angle is preferable as a measurement to predict the impaction of permanent mandibular second molars (>7.9°).

- Abstract
Introduction: Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw is a condition that severely affects the quality of life, therefore an early diagnosis is of utmost importance (both from a general and a surgical point of view), alongside with an accurate assessment of the risk of emergence of the disease., Aim: Estimation of the prognosis is not resolved; among several radiological options those used in dentistry seem the most fit for the purpose, with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) being superior in this task. Assessment of the risk of BRONJ developed following orally applied bisphosphonate is unemphatic in most case studies - these focus more on the intravenous application carrying a greater risk of BRONJ., Method: In contrast with the studies published so far, we performed our measurements on preoperative CBCT scans, thereby directly studying the possibility of risk assessment. Our measurements were conducted through evaluating CBCT scans. We chose the frontal section in the midline of the mental foramen as the representative area. We measured density and thickness of the cortical bone on several given points; the diameter of the mental foramen was also measured. In the first group, we examined patients suffering from osteoporosis who had developed BRONJ following oral bisphosphonate treatment. In the second group, we looked at patients suffering from osteoporosis, who had received oral bisphosphonate therapy for this condition but did not develop BRONJ after oral surgery. As control group, we chose patients suffering from osteoporosis who had not received any of the medications known to cause BRONJ., Results: Based on our results, it is clear that there is no significant difference in the bone density of those patients who developed BRONJ and those who did not, examining the preoperative CBCT scans., Conclusions: Using CBCT scans (and thereby submitting the patient to radiation exposure) in order to estimate the possibility of BRONJ following oral bisphosphonate treatment for osteoporosis is not recommended. It is important not to expose patients to more radiation than strictly necessary to predict BRONJ following oral bisphosphonate treatment in accordance with the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle. To compare the normal mean values of the mesiodistal axial angulation, proposed by Ursi in 1989, with the mesiodistal axial angulation of canine teeth, premolar and inferior molars in individuals with and without the presence of the third inferior molars and ages between 18 and 25 years. Besides, the values of the mesiodistal axial angulation of these teeth were compared in these two situations. METHODS: Forty panoramic x-rays were used from individuals of both genders that didn't receive orthodontic treatment, divided in two groups: Group I, constituted by 20 x-rays that didn't present the third inferior molars, and Group II, formed by 20 x-rays with the presence of the third inferior molars. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The results analysis and the statistical analysis allowed to conclude that both Groups exhibited inferior premolar and molars more angled in mesial direction when compared to the normal occlusion. On the other hand, the mesiodistal axial angulation of inferior canine teeth was similar to the presented in cases of normal occlusion. The two groups, when compared amongst themselves, exhibited similar angular values of the canine teeth, premolar and inferior molars, so that the presence of the third molars didn't exercise influence on these dental angulations.

In this case report we discuss the importance of panoramic x-ray as an auxiliary tool for the diagnosis, initial treatment and follow-up of patients with periodontal disease. The case presented involved an interdisciplinary approach between orthodontics and periodontics. A female patient with advanced periodontal disease was treated with the forced orthodontical eruption technique that resulted in bone and gingival growth at the end of the treatment. Placement of the implants and dental prostheses was also performed in an innovative approach of immediate prosthetic loading, i.e. implants and teeth placed within a 48 hours interval. These results indicate that our studies should continue since bone growth was obtained without a bone graft, the time of the treatment did not exceed 120 days, and that we may in future obtain further results that will contribute to surpass serious periodontal diseases without the need of several surgical stages, reducing the time of treatment, morbidity and costs.

- Abstract
Introduction: The precise knowledge of the position of canalis mandibulae and foramen mandibulae is important for surgical and endodontic interventions on the mandible., Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the position of these anatomical landmarks in different vertical facial types., Method: In the panorama radiograph of 26 normodivergent, 26 hypodivergent and 28 hyperdivergent arthritis (total of 1360 measurements) we measured the distance between the canalis mandibulae and interdental septums, the apex of the lateral teeth, the mandibular base, the goniac angle, and the steepness of the canal and the distance the foramen mandibulae to the anterior and posterior margin of the ramus., Results: ANOVA and t-test statistical analysis showed that the foramen mandibulae is farer from the posterior margin of the ramus in hipodivergent facial types, in hyperdivergent facial types the canalis mandibulae was closer to the root apex of posterior teeth and in hypodivergent types to the base of the mandible. In normal and hyperdivergent individuals, the canalis mandibulae runs steeper and in the course of running it is increasingly distanced from the tangent to the base of the mandible., Conclusion: The position of the canalis mandibulae and the foramen mandibulae showed significant differences in the different vertical facial types. - Abstract
As the panoramic x-ray is the most common extraoral radiography in dentistry, segmentation of its anatomical structures facilitates diagnosis and registration of dental records. This study presents a fast and accurate method for automatic segmentation of mandible in panoramic x-rays. In the proposed four-step algorithm, a superior border is extracted through horizontal integral projections. A modified Canny edge detector accompanied by morphological operators extracts the inferior border of the mandible body. The exterior borders of ramuses are extracted through a contour tracing method based on the average model of mandible. The best-matched template is fetched from the atlas of mandibles to complete the contour of left and right processes. The algorithm was tested on a set of 95 panoramic x-rays. Evaluating the results against manual segmentations of three expert dentists showed that the method is robust. It achieved an average performance of [Formula: see text] in Dice similarity, specificity, and sensitivity.

The author describes the symptomatology of the heterotopical third molar in mandible based on several clinical cases examinated. The anatomic anomaly is often not recognized without a preliminary panoramic x-ray examination.
