Abstract

Electricity has become an important concern in today's society. This is due to the fact that the electric grid now has a greater number of non-linear components. The AC-powered locomotive is one of these non-linear components. The aim of this paper was to model and predict the reactive power produced by an AC locomotive. This paper presents a study on the modelling and prediction of reactive power produced by AC-powered electric locomotives. Reactive power flow has a significant impact on network voltage levels and power efficiency. The research was conducted by using intelligent techniques—more precisely, by using the adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). Several approaches to the ANFIS structure were used in the research. Of these, we mention the ANFIS-grid partition, ANFIS subtractive clustering and ANFIS fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering. Thus; for modelling and predicting reactive power, ANFIS was trained, then tested. For the training of ANFIS, experimental data obtained from measurements performed in a train supply sub-station were used. The measurements were taken over a period of time when the locomotives were far away from the station, close to the station, and at the station, respectively. The currents and voltages from the supply substation, respectively the active, reactive, and distorted powers, were measured on the data acquisition board. With the measured data of the reactive power, the modelling with ANFIS was performed, and a prediction of the variation in the reactive power was made. The paper analysed the results of the modelling by comparing between several types of ANFIS architectures. Abstract

Byline: Manuela Panoiu, Caius Panoiu, Ioan Sora, Mihaela Osaci It is very well known that electric arc furnace as a three-phase charge one of the most important generators of harmonic currents, reactive power and unbalanced conditions in electrical power systems. To study the effect of the reactive power compensation installation, it is necessary to know the values of the electrical parameters of the arc furnace electrical installation as well as how the arc can be modelled. To simulate the electrical installation function it is necessary to use highly performing models of the electric arc. There are many models of the electric arc presented in the literature but from results using these models the authors consider that the three-phase electric arc is a balanced charge. This paper presents the reactive power values obtained by simulation for different steps of the reactive power compensation installation under the hypothesis that harmonics filters are connected. The simulations are performed using Power System Computer Aided Design (PSCAD)/Electro-Magnetic Transients in DC (EMTDC) program.

37. Asynchronous Backtracking with temporary and fixed links: A New Hybrid Member in the ABT Family

Abstract

Starting from the algorithm of asynchronous backtracking (ABT), a unifying framework for some of the asynchronous techniques has recently been suggested (called ABT kernel). Within this unifying framework, several techniques have been derived, known as the ABT family. They differ in the way they store nogoods, but they all use additional communication links between unconnected agents to detect obsolete information. A first way to remove obsolete information is to add new communication links to allow a nogood owner to determine whether this nogood is obsolete or not. These added links were proposed in the original ABT algorithm. The second solution consists in temporary keeping the links. A new link remains until a fixed number of messages have been exchanged through it. After that, it is removed. In this article is proposed a solution for the elimination of outdated informations between agents, by adding new links for the purpose of informing the agents, some links becoming permanent, others temporary. It consists in combining the permanent links with the temporary ones. The solution is based on determining the number of messages necessary for keeping the temporary links, number determined dynamically during the runtime. Based on these informations some links become permanent, others are kept temporary, until that number of messages is exchanged between the agents connected by temporary links. A new hybrid technique can be obtained from ABT kernel by applying this method, the experiments show a better efficiency in comparison with the asynchronous backtracking.

In this paper it is performed a numerical study of the voltage-current characteristic of an electric arc. To predict voltages and currents values, a multi-layer perceptron Artificial Neural Networks was used under the Matlab 2012 environment. This paper presents a study regarding the experimental validation of a mathematical model used to simulate the electric arc behavior, taking into consideration a technological phase of the electric arc furnace process. In order to do this, the mathematical model of the electric arc was implemented in Simulink software. In this paper were presented results obtained in the meltdown stage of the charging material. Abstract

The asynchronous searching techniques are characterized by the fact that each agent instantiates its variables in a concurrent way. Then, it sends the values of its variables to other agents directly connected to it by using messages. These asynchronous techniques have different behaviors in case of delays in sending messages. This article depicts the opportunity for synchronizing agents' execution in case of asynchronous techniques. It investigates and compares the behaviors of several asynchronous techniques in two cases: agents process the received messages asynchronously (the real situation from practice) and the synchronous case, when a synchronization of the agents' execution is done i.e. the agents perform a computing cycle in which they process a message from a message queue. After that, the synchronization is done by waiting for the other agents to finalize the processing of their messages. The experiments show that the synchronization of the agents' execution leads to lower costs in searching for solution. A solution for synchronizing the agents' execution is proposed for the analyzed asynchronous techniques. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
