Indian coking coals, due to higher ash content and lower vitrinite content, are hard to crush as compared to low-ash imported coking coals, and, during crushing, these get reported in larger size fractions, which has a detrimental effect on coke strength. These larger size fractions act as nuclei from where cracks are generated and weaken the coke structure. Pilot oven carbonization tests carried out at the Research and Development Centre for Iron and Steel (RDCIS) showed that by increasing the crushing index (the fraction passing through -3.2 mm) and reducing the content of the higher size fraction (+6 mm coal blend fraction), the M10index improved by 2.4 points and the M40index improved by 9.8 points. The article presents a study regarding critical points during collection, preservation and processing of Sahiwal bull semen. The critical points in the study include sterilization method for collection implements, water used for extender, osmolality of extender and processing room temperature. Results suggested that microwave sterilization is superior than other methods, resin based water purification is better than triple distilled water, osmolality of extender should be kept between 240-260 mOsmol/kg and room temperature at 22-24 degrees centigrade.

The article discusses the 2005 Haryana and Bihar Assembly elections in India and Indian voters' preference for democracy rather than development that were seen in the elections. A discussion of the factors which led voters to choose democracy over development in the elections is presented. Economic deprivations and socio-political inequality which have been seen in India as a result of development type government are discussed. An increase in an understanding about the benefits of democracy which has been seen among India's electorate is examined.

We evaluated the pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in serum (n = 6) and urine (n = 4) in goats following a single intravenous administration of 4 mg/kg body weight. The serum concentration-time curves of ciprofloxacin were best fitted by a two-compartment open model. The drug was detected in goat serum up to 12 h. The elimination rate constant (β) and elimination half-life (t1/2β) were 0.446 ± 0.04 h-1 and 1.630 ± 0.17 h, respectively. The apparent volume of distribution at steady state (Vdss) was 2.012 ± 0.37 l/kg and the total body clearance (ClB) was 16.27 ± 1.87 ml/min/kg. Urinary recovery of ciprofloxacin was 29.70% ± 10.34% of the administered dose within 36 h post administration. In vitro serum protein binding was 41% ± 13.10%. Thus, a single daily intravenous dose of 4 mg/kg is sufficient to maintain effective levels in serum and for 36 h in urine, allowing treatment of systemic, Gram-negative bacterial infections and urinary tract infections by most pathogens. The article examines the chromosomal profile of Niang Megha pig through karyological analysis of blood samples collected from male and female pigs. The method used in the cytogenetic study is discussed. Results including the chromosome number, fundamental number, and the morphometric parameters of the three groups of pig chromosomes determined are presented. Also included are the average relative length of first/largest autosome pair, and contribution of the X-chromosome.

The article highlights a study which investigated the repair of abdominal skin defects in dogs using acellular diaphragm xenografts of ovine origin. Results of the study revealed that acellular diaphragmatic xenografts helped in the early healing of the grafted wounds. The xenografts acted as extracellular matrix scaffold for the remodeling of the tissue or for regenerating missing tissue.

The article discusses a study conducted in Assam, India which investigated standardization of suitable age at weaning in Ghungroo pigs to help improve production efficiency at pig farm. The study involved 104 piglets from 12 liters maintained at an institute farm in Rani, Guwahati from September 2009 to July 2010. The researchers found that the weaning at 8 weeks of age was significantly superior for both males and females under study as compared to weaning at 6 and 7 weeks of age.

The article discusses a study which investigated the dentition development and pattern in indigenous pig breed, Ghungroo. The study examined 214 Ghungroo piglets of almost same gestational age for dentition pattern at pig farm complex of National Research Centre on pig in Rani, Guwahati, India. The study found that the dentition patterned can be recorded by the end of 120 days of age in Ghungroo piglet.
