2. Inverse identification framework for cohesive zone model incorporating failure mode based on multi-island genetic algorithm

Abstract

Composite interfaces are commonly simulated by cohesive zone models with the key challenge being the calibration of interfacial parameters. A new framework is presented in this paper to derive the characteristic of any cohesive zone model. This approach employs the multi-island genetic algorithm to obtain the interface parameters aligning closely with the experimental observations. The introduced framework innovatively formulates an objective function, considering both the congruence of the load-displacement curve and the alignment with the failure mode of model. The framework combines machine learning and multi-objective optimization. A method using the interface debonding length to quantify the failure mode of the model is proposed. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed framework, the newly strength-based cohesive zone model is taken as an example, and key parameters and damage evolution are identified accurately. The inverse algorithm is used to identify the interface parameters of both the double cantilever beam experiment and the four-point bending test. The robustness and accuracy of the framework are validated through the double cantilever beam test. The findings indicate that the numerical results align closely with the experimental data, confirming that the interface parameters identified by the proposed framework can reproduce the performance of the adhesive joints. more...

Abstract

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a physiologically focused radiation therapy that relies on nuclear capture and fission processes. BNCT is regarded as one of the most promising treatments due to its excellent accuracy, short duration of therapy, and low side effects. The creation of novel boron medicines with high selectivity, ease of delivery, and high boron‐effective load is a current research topic. Herein, boron‐containing carbon dots (BCDs) and their human serum albumin (HSA) complexes (BCDs‐HSA) are designed and synthesized as boron‐containing drugs for BNCT. BCDs (10B: 7.1 wt%) and BCDs‐HSA exhibited excitation‐independent orange fluorescent emission which supported the use of fluorescence imaging for tracking 10B in vivo. The introduction of HSA enabled BCDs‐HSA to exhibit good biocompatibility and increased tumor accumulation. The active and passive targeting abilities of BCDs‐HSA are explored in detail. Subcutaneous RM‐1 tumors and B16‐F10 tumors both significantly decrease with BNCT, which consists of injecting BCDs‐HSA and then irradiating the area with neutrons. In short, this study provides a novel strategy for the delivery of boron and may broaden the perspectives for the design of boron‐containing carbon dots nanomedicine for BNCT. Abstract

Background: Brain arteriovenous malformation (bAVM) is an abnormal vascular mass with disordered arteriovenous connection. Endothelial KRAS mutation is common in bAVM. In vivo studies have demonstrated that mutations of KRAS in somatic cells can induce bAVM-like angiogenesis, suggesting that KRAS gene may play a key role in the development and progression of bAVM. Summary: In this article, we will provide a comprehensive review of action mechanisms of KRAS mutations in the development of bAVM and summarize potential targeting drugs for KRAS mutations in bAVM somatic cells. Key Message: KRAS mutation in human brain endothelial cells is a key driver in the pathogenesis of sporadic cerebral arteriovenous malformations. Abstract

Rammed earth construction is an ancient technique which has recently attracted renewed interest throughout the world. Although rammed earth is currently regarded as a promising material in the construction industry in the context of sustainable development, it is difficult to quantify its bearing capacity, mechanical performance, as well as retrofitting approach, which discourages people from large-scale application in architectural engineering. This paper is devoted to the study of these problems based on rammed earth wall model experimentation. Three different models are studied considering different material components as well as structural configurations. By measuring the strain and deformation of the rammed earth wall models subjected to uniformly-distributed vertical loading, their ultimate bearing capacities are tested based on experimental investigation. Then the method of cement mortar-steel fiber reinforcement (CMSF) is carried out to study the ultimate bearing capacity enhancement of the wall models. Results show that the method of cement mortar-steel fiber reinforcement can increase the ultimate bearing capacity of the rammed earth wall models significantly, which is of relevant engineering significance in practical application. more...

Abstract

On the basis of the Lamberts cosine law, the light intensity of a point on the receiving screen behind the diffuse transmission glass screen was theoretically deduced. Combining the application of the diffuse transmission glass screen in the power monitor, the influence of both single-layer glass and multi-layer glasses on the intensity distribution of the incident laser was summarized through numerical simulation. The numerical results show that when the ratio of the radius of the incident laser to the distance from the diffuse transmission screen to the receiving screen is no more than 0.3, the intensity distribution and the caliber of the incident laser couldnt influence the normalized light intensity distribution on the receiving screen. And the normalized light intensity distribution on the receiving screen mainly depends on the distance, which indicates that the arrangement of the glasses or the number of the layers almost have nothing to do with the distribution. Abstract

In order to improve the ability and accuracy of measuring the temporal-spatial distribution of the intensity of a large-size, high-energy laser beam, a novel array detecting method based on diffuse transmission sampling is proposed. The measurement principle and the design of the sampling and attenuating unit are presented. High-temperature-resistant diffuse transmission material is used to sample and attenuate a high energy laser beam. Pure copper, whose surface is first sand-blasted and then gold-plated, is applied to scatter the incident high-energy laser beam. The formula for the attenuation ratio was derived in detail. We developed two large-aperture array detectors with spatial resolution of 5 mm, spatial duty ratio of 20%, and useable angle range of ±30° without varying the responsivity, the non-uniformity in the laser profile measurement is below 1%, and the repeatability error in the laser power measurement is approximately 1%. The maximal energy density that the array detector can endure is more than 10 kJ/cm(2). more...

Abstract

We designed a measurement system to measure large size laser beam intensity distribution based on CCD diffuse transmission imaging. The measurement principle is presented. The configuration of the system is introduced. An emphasis is placed on the design of diffuse transmission target. The methods of spot geometry distortion correction and intensity distortion correction are described in detail. After laser spot correction, we can get the real laser beam intensity profile. The test results are given, which validate the correctness of the method. The paper provides a new way to measure quantitatively the profile of large size laser beam with high accuracy. more...
