This paper presents results from Kepler photometric light curves and high-resolution spectroscopic study of a super Li-rich giant KIC11087027. Using the light curve analysis, we measured the star's rotational period P$_{\rm rot}$=30.4$\pm$0.1~days, which translates to rotational velocity V$_{\rm rot}$=19.5 $\pm$ 1.7~km s$^{-1}$. Star's location in the HR-diagram, derived values of $^{12}C/^{13}C$ = 7$\pm$1 and $[C/N]=-0.95\pm 0.2$, and the inferred asteroseismic parameters from secondary calibration based on spectra suggest star is a low-mass red clump giant in the He-core burning phase. Using Gaia data, we found evidence of variation in radial velocity and proper motion, indicative of presence of an unresolved binary. The large V$_{\rm rot}$ is probably a result of tidal synchronization combined with the after-effects of He-flash, in which the size of the star is reduced significantly. The simultaneous presence of features like high rotation, very high Li abundance, strong dust shell, and strong flares in a single star is relatively uncommon, suggesting that the star experiencing tidal synchronization has recently undergone He-flash. The results pose a question whether the binary interaction, hence the high rotation, is a prerequisite for dredging-up of the high amounts of Li from the interior to the photosphere during or immediately after the He-flash event., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, accepted

V5579 Sgr was a fast nova discovered in 2008 April 18.784 UT. We present the optical spectroscopic observations of the nova observed from the Castanet Tolosan, SMARTS and CTIO observatories spanning over 2008 April 23 to 2015 May 11. The spectra are dominated by hydrogen Balmer, Fe II and O I lines with P-Cygni profiles in the early phase, typical of an Fe II class nova. The spectra show He I and He II lines along with forbidden lines from N, Ar, S, and O in the nebular phase. The nova showed a pronounced dust formation episode that began about 20 days after the outburst. The dust temperature and mass were estimated using the WISE data from spectral energy distribution (SED) fits. The PAH-like features are also seen in the nova ejecta in the mid-IR Gemini spectra taken 522 d after the discovery. Analysis of the light curve indicates values of t$_2$ and t$_3$ about 9 and 13 days, respectively, placing the nova in the category of fast nova. The best fit cloudy model of the early decline phase JHK spectra obtained on 2008 May 3 and the nebular optical spectrum obtained on 2011 June 2 shows a hot white dwarf source with T$_{BB}$ $\sim$ 2.6 $\times$ 10$^5$ K having a luminosity of 9.8 $\times$ 10$^{36}$ ergs s$^{-1}$. Our abundance analysis shows that the ejecta is significantly enhanced relative to solar, O/H = 32.2, C/H = 15.5 and N/H = 40.0 in the early decline phase and O/H = 5.8, He/H = 1.5 and N/H = 22.0 in the nebular phase., Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, 5 tables, Accepted for publication in PASA

The high luminosity of massive, early-type stars drives strong stellar winds through line scattering of the stars continuum radiation. Their momenta contribute substantially to the dynamics and energetics of the ambient interstellar medium in galaxies. The detailed multi-wavelength study of massive O-type and Wolf-Rayet binaries is essential to explore the hydrodynamics of the shocks formed in the stellar outflows and wind structure. Further, deep analysis of some of the interesting phenomena like particle acceleration and dust formation associated with hot stars winds provides a global view of stellar outflows. In this context, a few massive binaries have been explored using photometric and spectroscopic measurements in different wavebands. Massive star winds are known to be responsible for X-ray emission arising from wind plasma heated by the strong shocks up to the temperature of 10$^6$--10$^7$ K in case of colliding wind binaries. We have investigated thermal and non-thermal X-ray emission from the massive O-type star HD93250 to unveil its binary orbital parameters independently. To meet our goal, X-ray data obtained with XMM-Newton has been analyzed, spanning over $\sim$19 years. Additionally, we analyzed NuSTAR observations of HD93250 taken at various epochs. We determined the variability time-scale of the X-ray emission to be 193.8$\pm$1.3\,d, in full agreement with the 194.3$\pm$0.4\,d period derived from the astrometric orbit. The X-ray spectrum of HD93250 is well explained by a three-temperature thermal plasma emission model with temperatures of 0.26, 1.0, and 3.3 keV. The resulting X-ray flux varies in compliance with the typical colliding wind emission from eccentric massive binaries where it enhances near periastron passage and decreases gradually close to apastron, proportionally with the inverse of the binary separation. The periastron-to-apastron X-ray emission ratio points to an eccentricity range of 0.20-0.25, once again in agreement with the previously determined astrometric orbit. Finally, we did not detect any hard X-ray emission attributable to non-thermal emission above 10 keV. Given the derived plasma temperature, the strong phase-locked variability and the significant over-luminosity in X-rays, we establish that the X-ray emission from HD93250 is dominated by the colliding-wind region. Our results lend support to the idea that X-ray time analysis of massive stars constitutes a relevant tool to investigate their multiplicity and extract relevant information on their basic orbital parameters, such as the period and the eccentricity, independently of any orbital solution derived from usual techniques., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Using starlight polarization, we present the properties of foreground dust towards cluster NGC 7380 embedded in H{\sc ii} region Sh 2-142. Observations of starlight polarization are carried out in four filters using an imaging polarimeter equipped with a 104-cm ARIES telescope. Polarization vectors of stars are aligned along the Galactic magnetic field. Towards the east and southeast regions, the dust structure appears much denser than in other regions (inferred from extinction contours and colour composite image) and is also reflected in polarization distribution. We find that the polarization degree and extinction tend to increase with distance and indication for the presence of a dust layer at a distance of around 1.2 $kpc$. We have identified eight potential candidates exhibiting intrinsic polarization by employing three distinct criteria to distinguish between stars of intrinsic polarization and interstellar polarized stars. For interstellar polarized stars, we find that the maximum polarization degree increases with the color excess and has a strong scatter, with the mean value of 1.71$\pm$0.57$\%$. The peak wavelength spans $0.40-0.88\mu$m with the mean value of 0.56$\pm$0.07 $\mu m$, suggesting similar grain sizes in the region as the average diffuse interstellar medium. The polarization efficiency is also found to decrease with visual extinction as $P_{max}/A_{V}\propto A_{V}^{-0.61}$. Using long-term X-ray observations, we present the short-term and long-term X-ray variability analysis of the ultra-fast rotating active star AB Dor. Flaring events are common in X-ray observations of AB Dor and occupy a substantial portion of the total observation time, averaging around 57$\pm$23\%. The flare-free X-ray light curves show rotational modulation, indicating the presence of highly active regions in its corona. We have developed a light curve inversion code to image the corona of active fast rotating stars. The results of coronal imaging reveal the presence of two active regions of different brightness that are separated by $\sim$180\deg in longitude. These active regions are also found to migrate along the longitude and also show variation in their brightness. Our analysis of long-term X-ray data spanning from 1979 to 2022 shows multiple periodicities. The existence of a $\sim$19.2 yr cycle and its first harmonic indicates the presence of a Solar-like, long-term pattern. In comparison, the periodicities of $\sim$3.6 and $\sim$5.4 yr are possibly due to the presence of a flip-flop cycle in X-rays, which is also supported by similar periods findings from the optical data in the earlier studies. We present a comprehensive analysis of the detailed chemical abundances for a sample of 11 metal-poor, very metal-poor and extremely metal-poor stars ([Fe/H] = -1.65 to [Fe/H] = -3.0) as part of the HESP-GOMPA (Galactic survey Of Metal Poor stArs) survey. The abundance determinations encompass a range of elements, including C, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, and Ba, with a subset of the brighter objects allowing for the measurement of additional key elements. Notably, the abundance analysis of a relatively bright highly r-process-enhanced (r-II) star (SDSS J0019+3141) exhibits a predominantly main r-process signature and variations in the lighter r-process elements. Moreover, successful measurements of thorium in this star facilitate stellar age determinations. We find a consistent odd-even nucleosynthesis pattern in these stars, aligning with expectations for their respective metallicity levels, thus implicating Type II supernovae as potential progenitors. From the interplay between the light and heavy r-process elements, we infer a diminishing relative production of light r-process elements with increasing Type II supernova contributions, challenging the notion that Type II supernovae are the primary source of these light r-process elements in the early Milky Way. A chemodynamical analysis based on Gaia astrometric data and our derived abundances indicates that all but one of our program stars are likely to be of accreted origin. We present an X-ray and UV investigation of five X-ray flares detected on two active systems, CC Eri and AB Dor, using the AstroSat observatory. The peak X-ray luminosities of the flares in the 0.3$-$7.0 keV band are found to be within 10$^{31-33}$ erg s$^{-1}$. Preliminary spectral analysis indicates the presence of three and four-temperature corona for CC Eri and AB Dor, respectively, where the highest temperature is found to vary with flare. The flare temperatures peaked at 51$-$59 MK for CC Eri and 29$-$44 MK for AB Dor. The peak emission measures of the flaring loops are estimated to be $\sim$10$^{54}$ for CC Eri and $\sim$10$^{55}$ cm$^{-3}$ for AB Dor. Late-type stars are the most abundant in the galactic stellar population. These stars, with a similar internal structure to the Sun, are expected to have solar-like atmospheres. Investigating the stellar parameters and chemical abundances on late-type stars is essential to provide valuable constraints about stellar age, chemical evolution, and atmosphere of exoplanets. In this work, we present the study of the Near-UV and optical spectroscopic observation of three late-type stars: HR 8038, AC Her, and HD 76446, as obtained from the 36-inch MIRA/Oliver Observing Station. We derived surface temperature, gravity, metallicity, and the chemical abundances of light element Carbon in the stellar atmosphere. We present the analyses of intense X-ray flares detected on the active fast rotator AB Dor using observations from the XMM-Newton. A total of 21 flares are detected, and 13 flares are analysed in detail. The total X-ray energy of these flares is found to be in the range of 10$^{34-36}$ erg, in which the peak flare flux increased up to 34 times from the pre-/post-flaring states for the strongest observed flare. The duration of these flaring events is found to be 0.7 to 5.8 hrs. The quiescent state X-ray spectra are found to be explained by a three-temperature plasma with average temperatures of 0.29, 0.95, and 1.9 keV, respectively. The temperatures, emission measures, and abundances are found to be varying during the flares. The peak flare temperature was found in the 31-89 MK range, whereas the peak emission measure was 10$^{52.5-54.7}$ $cm^{-3}$. The abundances vary during the flares and increase by a factor of $\sim$3 from the quiescent value for the strongest detected flare. The variation in individual abundances follows the inverse-FIP effect in quiescent and flare phases. The X-ray light curves of AB Dor are found to exhibit rotational modulation. Using the linear polarimetric observations, we present a method to derive the membership probability of stars in cluster NGC 2345. The polarimetric observations of cluster NGC 2345 are performed using the instrument ARIES IMaging POLarimeter (AIMPOL) mounted as a backend of the 104-cm telescope of ARIES. Members of the cluster should exhibit comparable polarization since they are located nearly at the same distance. This concept is used to extract the membership probability of known member stars of cluster NGC 2345. The membership probability estimated using the polarimetric data for cluster NGC 2345 agrees with the membership probability derived from the proper motion method in the previous studies., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables. We present the preliminary timing analysis of confirmed intermediate polar UU Col and possible intermediate polar Swift J0939.7-3224 in the optical band with the help of long-term, high-cadence continuous photometry from Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). For UU Col, we revise previously reported orbital and spin periods as 3.464 $\pm$ 0.005 h and 863.74 $\pm$ 0.08 s, respectively. Using the second harmonic of the beat frequency, the beat period is estimated as $\sim$928 s. These findings indicate that UU Col is a disc-fed dominated disc-overflow accretor. For J0939, we establish the spin period as 2671.8 $\pm$ 0.8 s and refine the provisionally suggested orbital period as 8.49 $\pm$ 0.03 h. The absence of beat frequency in J0939 signifies that it might be a pure disc-fed accretor; however, an X-ray study of this source will help to understand its true nature., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables. We present analyses of an Intermediate Polar, IGR J15094-6649, based on the archival optical data obtained from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and X-ray data obtained from the Suzaku, NuSTAR, and Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (Swift). Present analysis confirms and refines the previously reported spin period of IGR J15094-6649 as 809.49584$\pm$0.00075 s. Clear evidence of a beat period of 841.67376$\pm$0.00082 s is found during the long-term TESS optical observations, which was not evident in the earlier studies. The dominance of X-ray and optical spin pulse unveils the disc-fed dominance accretion, however, the presence of an additional beat frequency indicates that part of the accreting material also flows along the magnetic field lines. The energy-dependent spin pulsations in the low (< 10 keV) energy band are due to the photoelectric absorption in the accretion flow. However, the complex absorbers may be responsible to produce low amplitude spin modulations via Compton scattering in the hard ( > 10 keV) energy band and indicate that the height of the X-ray emitting region may be negligible. The observed double-humped X-ray profiles with a pronounced dip are indicative of the photoelectric absorption in the intervening accretion stream. We present our analysis of new and archived observations of two candidate magnetic cataclysmic variables, namely 1RXS J174320.1-042953 and YY Sex. 1RXS J174320.1-042953 was observed in two distinctive high and low states where a phase shift was seen, which could be due to the changes in the shape, size, and (or) location of the accretion region. We find that its orbital X-ray modulations only persist in the soft (0.3-2.0 keV) energy band, which could be attributed to the photoelectric absorption in the accretion flow. The X-ray spectra exhibit a multi-temperature post-shock region where the hard X-rays are absorbed through a thick absorber with an equivalent hydrogen column of $\sim$7.5 $\times$ 10$^{23}$ cm$^{-2}$, which partially covers $\sim$56 per cent of the emission. No soft X-ray excess was found to be present; however, a soft X-ray emission with a blackbody temperature of $\sim$97 eV describes the spectra. Extensive TESS observations of YY Sex allow us to refine its orbital period to 1.5746 $\pm$ 0.0011 h. We did not find any signature of previously reported spin or beat periods in this system. Furthermore, our new polarimetric observations show clear circular polarization modulated on the orbital period only. Finally, both systems show strong Balmer and He II 4686 A$^\circ$ emission lines in the optical spectra, further indicative of their magnetic nature., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures, and 7 tables (accepted for publication in MNRAS)

We present stellar variability towards the young open cluster NGC\,6823. Time series $V$- and $I$-band CCD photometry led to identification and characterization of 88 variable stars, of which only 14 have been previously recognized. We ascertain the membership of each variable with optical $UBVI$ and infrared photometry, and with Gaia EDR3 parallax and proper motion data. Seventy two variable stars are found to be cluster members, of which 25 are main sequence stars and 48 are pre-main-sequence stars. The probable cluster members collectively suggest an isochrone age of the cluster to be about 2~Myrs based on the GAIA photometry. With the color and magnitude, as well as the shape of the light curve, we have classified the main sequence variables into $\beta$~Cep, $\delta$~Scuti, slowly pulsating B type, and new class variables. Among the pre-main-sequence variables, eight are classical T Tauri variables, and four are Herbig Ae/Be objects, whereas the remaining belong to the weak-lined T Tauri population. The variable nature of 32 stars is validated with TESS light curves. Our work provides refined classification of variability of pre-main-sequence and main-sequence cluster members of the active star-forming complex, Sharpless\,86. Despite no strong evidence of the disk-locking mechanism in the present sample of TTSs, one TTS with larger $\Delta(I-K)$ is found to be slow rotator., Comment: 19 pages, 19 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present an in-depth study of a large and long duration ($>$1.3 days) X-ray flare observed on an RS CVn type eclipsing binary system SZ Psc using observations from Swift observatory. In the 0.35$-$10 keV energy band, the peak luminosity is estimated to be 4.2$\times$10$^{33}$ erg s$^{-1}$. The quiescent corona of SZ Psc was observed $\sim$5.67 d after the flare using Swift observatory, and also $\sim$1.4 yr after the flare using the XMM-Newton satellite. The quiescent corona is found to consist of three temperature plasma: 4, 13, and 48 MK. High-resolution X-ray spectral analysis of the quiescent corona of SZ Psc suggests that the high first ionization potential (FIP) elements are more abundant than the low-FIP elements. The time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy of the flare shows a significant variation in the flare temperature, emission measure, and abundance. The peak values of temperature, emission measure, and abundances during the flare are estimated to be 199$\pm$11 MK, 2.13$\pm$0.05 $\times 10^{56}$ cm$^{-3}$, 0.66$\pm$0.09 Z$_{\odot}$, respectively. Using the hydrodynamic loop modeling, we derive the loop length of the flare as 6.3$\pm$0.5 $\times 10^{11}$ cm, whereas the loop pressure and density at the flare peak are derived to be 3.5$\pm$0.7 $\times 10^{3}$ dyne cm$^{-2}$ and 8$\pm$2 $\times 10^{10}$ cm$^{-3}$, respectively. The total magnetic field to produce the flare is estimated to be 490$\pm$60 G. Based on the X-ray observations from XMM-Newton and Swift, and optical observations from Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and AAVSO, we present temporal and spectral properties of probable intermediate polar SWIFT J0503.7-2819. The X-ray light curve shows two distinctive features, where possibly the second pole seems to be active during the middle of the XMM-Newton observations. Present analysis confirms and also refines the previously reported orbital period of SWIFT J0503.7-2819 as 81.65$\pm$0.04 min. The X-ray and optical variations of this target have been found to occur at the period of $\sim$ 65 min, which we propose as the spin period of the white dwarf (WD). The energy-dependent modulation at this period, which are due to the photoelectric absorption in the accretion flow, also assures this conjecture. Two temperature thermal plasma model well explains the X-ray spectra with temperatures of $\sim$ 150 eV and $\sim$ 18.5 keV, which is absorbed by a dense material with an average equivalent hydrogen column density of 3.8 $\times$ 10$^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$ that partially covers $\sim$ 27% of the X-ray source. An attempt is made to understand the accretion flow in this system using the present data of SWIFT J0503.7-2819. If the proposed spin period is indeed the actual period, then SWIFT J0503.7-2819 could be the first nearly synchronous intermediate polar below the period gap., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present a study on the detailed elemental abundances of newly identified bright very metal-poor stars with the detection of lithium, initially observed as part of the SDSS/MARVELS pre-survey. These stars were selected for high-resolution spectroscopic follow-up as part of the HESP-GOMPA survey. In this work, we discuss the Li abundances detected for several stars in the survey, which include main-sequence stars, subgiants, and red giants. Different classes of stars are found to exhibit very similar distributions of Li, which point towards a common origin. We derive a scaling relation for the depletion of Li as a function of temperature for giants and main-sequence stars; the majority of the samples from the literature were found to fall within 1sigma (0.19 and 0.12 dex/K for giants and dwarfs respectively) of this relationship. We also report the existence of a slope of the Li abundances as a function of distances from the Galactic plane, indicating mixed stellar populations. Most Li-rich stars are found to be in or close to the galactic plane. Along with Li, we have derived detailed abundances for C, odd-Z, alpha-, Fe-peak, and neutron-capture elements for each star. We have also used astrometric parameters from Gaia-EDR3 to complement our study, and derived kinematics to differentiate between the motions of the stars; those formed in situ and accreted. The stellar population of the Spite plateau, including additional stars from the literature, is found to have significant contributions from stars formed in situ and through accretion. We present a detailed X-ray analysis and imaging of stellar coronae of five coronally connected eclipsing binaries, namely, 44 Boo, DV Psc, ER Vul, XY UMa, and TX Cnc. Both components of these binaries are found to be active. The X-ray light curves of detached and semidetached type systems show eclipsed-like features, whereas no evidence for coronal eclipsing is shown by the contact type systems. The X-ray light curve of DV Psc shows the O'Connell-like effect where the first maximum is found to be brighter than that of the second. Results of the coronal imaging using three-dimensional deconvolution of X-ray light curves show the coronae of all these binaries are either in the contact or over-contact configuration, with the primary being 1.7 $-$ 4 times X-ray brighter than its companion. In the current sample, a minimum of 30$-$50 \% of total UV emission is found to originate from the photosphere and positively correlated with the X-ray emission. X-ray spectra of these systems are well explained by two-temperature plasma models. The temperature corresponding to cool and hot components of plasma are found to be in the ranges of 0.25$-$0.64 and 0.9$-$1.1 keV, respectively. For the majority of binaries in the sample, the phase-resolved X-ray spectral analysis shows the orbital modulation in X-ray luminosity and emission measure corresponding to the hot component. A total of seven flaring events are also detected in the four systems with the flare energy in the range of (1.95$-$27.0)$\times$10$^{33}$ erg and loop length of the order of 10$^{9-11}$ cm., Comment: 25 pages, 10 figures, 7 tables. In this work, we study the magnetic field morphology of selected star-forming clouds spread over the galactic latitude ($b$) range, $-10^\circ$ to $10^\circ$. The polarimetric observation of clouds CB24, CB27 and CB188 are conducted to study the magnetic field geometry of those clouds from ARIES, Manora Peak, Nainital, India. These observations are combined with those of 14 further low latitude clouds available in the literature. Analyzing the polarimetric data of 17 clouds, we find that the alignment between the envelope magnetic field ($\theta_{B}^{env}$) and Galactic plane ($\theta_{GP}$) of the low-latitude clouds varies with their galactic longitudes ($l$). We observe a strong correlation between the longitude (\textit{l}) and the offset ($\theta_{off}=|\theta_B^{env}-\theta_{GP}|$) which shows that $\theta_{B}^{env}$ is parallel to the Galactic plane (GP) when the clouds are situated in the region, $115^\circ250^\circ$. To check the consistency of our results, the stellar polarization data available at Heiles (2000) catalogue are overlaid on DSS image of the clouds having mean polarization vector of field stars. The results are almost consistent with the Heiles data. The effect of turbulence of the cloud is also studied which may play an important role in causing the misalignment phenomenon observed between $\theta_{B}^{env}$ and $\theta_{GP}$. We have used \textit{Herschel} \textit{SPIRE} 500 $\mu m$ and \textit{SCUBA} 850 $\mu m$ dust continuum emission maps in our work to understand the density structure of the clouds., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures. We have investigated the grain alignment and dust properties towards the direction of the cluster NGC 2345 using the multi-band optical polarimetric observations. For the majority of the stars, the observed polarization is found to be due to the interstellar medium with average values of maximum polarization and wavelength corresponding to it as 1.55% and 0.58 $\mu m$, respectively. This reveals a similar size distribution of dust grains to that in the general interstellar medium in the direction of NGC 2345. Alteration of dust properties near the distance of 1.2 kpc towards the direction of NGC 2345 has been noticed. The dust grains located beyond this distance are found to be aligned with the Galactic magnetic field, whereas a dispersion in orientation of the dust grains lying in the foreground of this distance is found. Polarizing efficiency of grains in this direction is found to be close to the average efficiency for our Galaxy. The decreased grain size along with the increased polarizing efficiency towards the core region of the cluster indicates the local radiation field is higher within the cluster which is responsible for the increased alignment efficiency of small grains. The wavelength of maximum polarization (associated with the average size of aligned grains) is also found to increase with extinction and reduces with the increase in polarizing efficiency, which can be explained by the radiative torque alignment mechanism., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables. We present optical photometric and spectroscopic observations of two Cataclysmic Variables (CVs), namely RBS 0490 and SDSS J075939.79+191417.3. The optical variations of RBS 0490 have been found to occur at the period of 1.689$\pm$0.001 hr which appears to be a probable orbital period of the system. Present photometric observations of SDSS J075939.79+191417.3 confirm and refine the previously determined orbital period as 3.14240928$\pm$0.00000096 hr. The presence of long-duration eclipse features in the light curves of SDSS J075939.79+191417.3 indicates eclipses might be due to an accretion disc and bright spot. The orbital inclination of SDSS J075939.79+191417.3 is estimated to be $\sim$ 78 $^\circ$ using the eclipse morphology. The phased-light curve variations during the orbital cycle of RBS 0490 provide evidence of the emission from an independent second accretion region or a second fainter pole. Optical spectra of RBS 0490 and SDSS J075939.79+191417.3 show the presence of strong Balmer, weak He II ($\lambda$4686) emission lines, along with the detection of strong $H\beta$ emission lines with a large value of equivalent width. The characteristic features of RBS 0490 seem to favour low-field polars, while SDSS J075939.79+191417.3 appears to be similar to the non-magnetic systems., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, 5 tables, Accepted for publication in AJ

We have carried out detailed time-resolved timing analyses of three cataclysmic variables (CVs) namely LS Cam, V902 Mon, and SWIFT J0746.3-1608, using the long-baseline, high-cadence optical photometric data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Our analysis of LS Cam observations hints the presence of a superorbital period of $\sim$ 4.025$\pm$0.007 d along with negative and positive superhump periods of $\sim$ 3.30 h and 3.70 h, respectively. These results can be explained as an interaction of nodal and apsidal precession of the accretion disc with orbital motion. For the other two sources, V902 Mon and SWIFT J0746.3-1608, we have found evidence of a beat period of 2387.0$\pm$0.6 s and 2409.5$\pm$0.7 s, respectively, which were not found in earlier studies. Our results presented in this study indicate the change in the accretion mode during the entire observing period for both sources. For V902 Mon, an apparent orbital period derivative of (6.09 $\pm$ 0.60) $\times 10^{-10}$ was also found. Moreover, the second harmonic of orbital frequency dominates the power spectrum of SWIFT J0746.3-1608, suggestive of ellipsoidal modulation of the secondary star. Present analyses suggest that LS Cam could be a superhumping CV whereas V902 Mon and SWIFT J0746.3-1608 are likely to be variable disc-overflow accreting intermediate polars., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, 5 tables (Accepted for publication in MNRAS)

Using X-ray observations from the NuSTAR and Swift satellites, we present temporal and spectral properties of an intermediate polar (IP) IGR J16547-1916. A persistent X-ray period at ~ 546 s confirming the optical spin period obtained from previous observations is detected. The detection of a strong X-ray spin pulse reinforces the classification of this system as an intermediate polar. The lack of orbital or side-band periodicities in the X-rays implies that the system is accreting predominantly via a disk. A variable covering absorber appears to be responsible for the spin pulsations in the low energy range. In the high energy band, the pulsations are likely due to the self occultation of tall shocks above the white dwarf surface. The observed double-humped X-ray spin pulse profile indicates two-pole accretion geometry with tall accretion regions in short rotating IP IGR J16547-1916. We present the variation of the spin pulse profile over an orbital phase to account for the effects of orbital motion on the spin pulsation. X-ray spectra obtained from the contemporaneous observations of Swift and NuSTAR in the 0.5-78.0 keV energy band are modeled with a maximum temperature of 31 keV and a blackbody temperature of 64 eV, along with a common column density of $1.8\times10^{23} cm^{-2}$ and a power-law index of -0.22 for the covering fraction. An additional Gaussian component and a reflection component are needed to account for a fluorescent emission line at 6.4 keV and the occurrence of X-ray reflection in the system. We also present the spin phase-resolved spectral variations of IGR J16547-1916 in the 0.5-78.0 keV energy band and find dependencies in the X-ray spectral parameters during the rotation of the white dwarf., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in A&A

We present a comprehensive study of three large long-duration flares detected on an active M-dwarf binary EQ Peg using the Soft X-Ray Telescope of the AstroSat observatory. The peak X-ray luminosities of the flares in the 0.3 - 7 keV band are found to be within ~5 - 10 x 10^{30} erg s^{-1}. The e-folding rise- and decay-times of the flares are derived to be in the range of 3.4 - 11 and 1.6 - 24 ks, respectively. Spectral analysis indicates the presence of three temperature corona with the first two plasma temperatures remain constant during all the flares and the post-flare observation at ~3 and ~9 MK. The flare temperature peaked at 26, 16, and 17 MK, which are 2, 1.3, and 1.4 times more than the minimum value, respectively. The peak emission measures are found to be 3.9 - 7.1 x 10^{53} cm^{-3}, whereas the abundances peaked at 0.16-0.26 times the solar abundances. Using quasi-static loop modeling, we derive loop-lengths for all the flares as 2.5+/-0.5 x 10^{11}, 2.0+/-0.5 x 10^{11}, and 2.5+/-0.9 x 10^{11} cm, respectively. The density of the flaring plasma is estimated to be 4.2+/-0.8 x 10^{10}, 3.0+/-0.7 x 10^{10}, 2.2+/-0.8 x 10^{10} cm^{-3) for flares F1, F2, and F3, respectively. Whereas the magnetic field for all three flares is estimated to be <100 G. The estimated energies of all three flares are ~10^{34-35} erg, putting them in a category of superflare. We have carried out a long term infrared and X-ray investigation of the colliding wind binary WR 125 (WC7+O9III). The source was monitored using AstroSat-Soft X-ray Telescope and TIRCAM2 mounted at the back of 3.6 m Devasthal Optical Telescope. WR 125 appeared brighter in near infra-red K-band during the years 2017-2021 which is attributed to another episode of dust formation similar to the one reported during the likely periastron passage at the beginning of the 1990s. This is further supported by enhanced emission observed in W1 and W2 bands of WISE from 2018-19. By combining archival X-ray data sets with our new measurements, long-term variations have been noticed. The source reaches a lower emission state in June 2020 (close to the recent infrared maximum) which could be due to enhanced absorption of X-rays produced in the colliding wind region by the WC stellar wind close to the periastron in an eccentric orbit. The time interval between the previous and latest X-ray low states may indicate an orbital period of 28-29 years, in fair agreement with the recurrence time of episodic dust production. We also discuss published radio measurements in the context of a common picture based on a long period binary scenario.
