Evidence-based information is essential for effective mental health care, yet the extent and accessibility of the scientific literature are critical barriers for professionals and policymakers. To map the necessities and make validated resources accessible, we undertook a systematic review of scientific evidence on child and adolescent mental health in Greece encompassing three research topics: prevalence estimates, assessment instruments, and interventions. We searched Pubmed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Google Scholar, and IATPOTEK from inception to December 16th, 2021. We included studies assessing the prevalence of conditions, reporting data on assessment tools, and experimental interventions. For each area, manuals informed data extraction and the methodological quality were ascertained using validated tools. This review was registered in protocols.io [68583]. We included 104 studies reporting 533 prevalence estimates, 223 studies informing data on 261 assessment instruments, and 34 intervention studies. We report the prevalence of conditions according to regions within the country. A repository of locally validated instruments and their psychometrics was compiled. An overview of interventions provided data on their effectiveness. The outcomes are made available in an interactive resource online [https://rpubs.com/camhi/sysrev_table]. Scientific evidence on child and adolescent mental health in Greece has now been cataloged and appraised. This timely and accessible compendium of up-to-date evidence offers valuable resources for clinical practice and policymaking in Greece and may encourage similar assessments in other countries.

BackgroundEvidence-based policymaking is needed so that health systems can address the gap in care for children and adolescents facing mental health challenges. We describe the development of an open-resource dataset providing a comprehensive assessment of the needs for child and adolescent mental health care in Greece.MethodsThis study is a part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI), a program aiming to enhance mental health care capacity for children and adolescents across Greece. A comprehensive, mixed-method, community-based research was conducted in 2022/2023 to examine the current state, needs, barriers, and opportunities according to multiple viewpoints. Participants consisted of children, adolescents (including underrepresented minorities), caregivers, schoolteachers, and health professionals. We surveyed geographically distributed samples to assess mental health symptoms, mental health needs, literacy and stigma, service use and access, professional practices, training background, and training needs and preferences. Focus groups were conducted with informants to reach an in-depth understanding of those topics.ResultsWe surveyed 1,756 caregivers, 1,201 children/adolescents, 404 schoolteachers, and 475 health professionals. Fourteen focus groups were conducted with the general and professional community. A repository with quantitative and qualitative findings informing multiple topics is now available for researchers, policymakers, and society [https://osf.io/crz6h/].DiscussionThis resource offers valuable data for assessing the needs and priorities for child and adolescent mental health care in Greece. It is now freely available to consult, and is expected to inform upcoming research and evidence-based professional training. Η παρούσα μελέτη έχει στόχο να συνεισφέρει στην κατανόηση της φύσης της προσωρινής αποθήκευσης οπτικών αναπαραστάσεων στην οπτικο-χωρική ενεργό μνήμη. Με την απόδοση ενεργού ρόλου στην μέχρι τότε βραχύχρονη μνήμη αλλά και την πολύ σημαντική διάκριση της, σε επιμέρους συστατικά από τους Baddeley & Hitch (1974), ξεκίνησε εκτεταμένη έρευνα στον ευρύτερο χώρο της ψυχολογίας. Κι ενώ το φωνολογικό σύστημα μελετήθηκε αρκετά ως προς τη χωρητικότητα και τη διάρκεια του (Jacobs, 1887, Miller 1956, Baddeley, 1975, 1986, 1996), η οπτικό-χωρική ενεργός μνήμη διατηρεί ακόμη αρκετές πτυχές ανεξερεύνητες. Αποτελεί πλέον κοινή αναφορά ο αριθμός τέσσερα (4) ως το όριο των στοιχείων που καθορίζουν τη χωρητικότητα της οπτικό-χωρικής ενεργού μνήμης, είτε η τελευταία θεωρείται ξεχωριστό σύστημα (Baddeley & Hitch, 1974), ή τμήμα της μακρόχρονης μνήμης που καθορίζεται από εκείνες της πληροφορίες της που είναι ενεργοποιημένες και λαμβάνουν προσοχή (Cowan, 1988, 2008, Logie, 1995, Miyake & Shah, 1999). Σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης είναι να μελετηθούν αυτοί οι περιορισμοί, με στοιχεία- ερεθίσματα που οδηγούν καθαρά σε οπτική κωδικοποίηση και να μελετηθεί η αλληλεπίδραση αυτής της χωρητικότητας με τον τρόπο που αντιλαμβανόμαστε αυτά τα ερεθίσματα. Πραγματοποιήθηκαν δύο πειράματα στα οποία μία σειρά προσανατολισμών (1-4 ερεθίσματα) παρουσιάστηκαν και τα υποκείμενα έπρεπε να αναπαράγουν το αρχικό ερέθισμα που είχαν δει. Στο πρώτο πείραμα, ο χρόνος παρεμβολής μεταξύ παρουσίασης των ερεθισμάτων και της ανάκλησης ποίκιλε (0.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5ms), ενώ στο δεύτερο πείραμα ποίκιλε ο χρόνος παρουσίασης των ερεθισμάτων (1s, 2s, 5s, 7s). Τα αποτελέσματα της παρούσας έρευνας έδειξε μία «επιβάρυνση» της μνημονικής επίδοσης από το μνημονικό φορτίο, ήτοι αύξηση του μνημονικού φορτίου συνεπάγεται αύξηση του χρόνου αντίδρασης και αύξηση του σφάλματος προσανατολισμού. Ο μειωμένος χρόνος παρουσίασης επηρέασε επίσης τη μνημονική επίδοση ενώ η αύξηση του χρόνου παρεμβολής μεταξύ παρουσίασης ερεθισμάτων και ανάκλησης δεν παρουσίασε στατιστικά σημαντικά αποτελέσματα. Τα αποτελέσματα της παρούσας μελέτης ανέδειξαν επίσης και επιβεβαίωσαν το φαινόμενο ανισοτροπίας προσανατολισμού. Συγκεκριμένα, η αναπαράσταση ενός προσανατολισμού είναι περισσότερο ακριβής για τους κάθετους και οριζόντιους προσανατολισμούς σε σύγκριση με τους πλαγίους και αυτή η ανισοτροπία έχει υποτεθεί ότι αντανακλά μία χαμηλού επιπέδου οπτική επεξεργασία (οπτική, «κατηγορία 1», ανισοτροπία). Η αναπαραγωγή οπτικών πληροφοριών και πληροφοριών προσανατολισμού, οδηγεί επίσης σε ένα μέσο σφάλμα μακριά από τους κάθετους και οριζόντιους προσανατολισμούς. Αυτή η ανισοτροπία έχει υποτεθεί ότι αντανακλά υψηλού επιπέδου γνωσιακή διαδικασία χωρικής κατηγοριοποίησης (γνωσιακή, «κατηγορία 2» ανισοτροπία). Το μεταβλητό σφάλμα ήταν μεγαλύτερο για τους πλάγιους προσανατολισμούς από ότι για τους κάθετους και οριζόντιους και στα δύο πειράματα, αναπαράγοντας την «κατηγορία 1» ανισοτροπία. Το μέσο σφάλμα παράλληλα αναπαρήγαγε την τάση μακριά από τους κάθετους και οριζόντιους προσανατολισμούς και κοντά στους πλάγιους και στα δύο πειράματα (γνωσιακή «κατηγορία 2» ανισοτροπία). Η ακρίβεια ή ο αναπαραγόμενος προσανατολισμός εξασθενούσε (αυξάνοντας το μέσο σφάλμα) και η γνωσιακή κατηγορία 2 ανισοτροπία αυξανόταν με την αύξηση του γνωσιακού φορτίου (αριθμός ερεθισμάτων) και στα δύο πειράματα και του χρόνου παρουσίασης στο δεύτερο πείραμα. Σε αντίθεση, η οπτική «κατηγορία 1» ανισοτροπία δεν επηρεάστηκε σημαντικά από κανέναν από αυτούς τους παράγοντες. Τα αποτελέσματα αυτά επιβεβαιώνουν τις θεωρητικές προβλέψεις για τις δύο ανισοτροπίες στην οπτική αναπαραγωγή προσανατολισμών και παρέχουν στήριξη για τη χρήση της κατηγοριοποίησης του χώρου του προσανατολισμού στην οπτική ενεργό μνήμη. Μια κατηγοριοποίηση του χώρου η οποία δείχνει να περιορίζεται από την χωρητικότητα της ενεργού μνήμης. Η οπτική αναπαράσταση η οποία είναι περιορισμένης χωρητικότητας, περιορίζεται στην κατηγοριοποίηση του χώρου σε 4 κατηγορίες (επέκταση του χώρου στη γειτνίαση των κάθετων κατευθύνσεων και αντίστοιχη συμπίεση του χώρου στην περιοχή των πλαγίων κατευθύνσεων).

The representation of visual orientation is more accurate for cardinal orientations compared to oblique, and this anisotropy has been hypothesized to reflect a low-level visual process (visual, "class 1" oblique effect). The reproduction of directional and orientation information also leads to a mean error away from cardinal orientations or directions. This anisotropy has been hypothesized to reflect a high-level cognitive process of space categorization (cognitive, "class 2," oblique effect). This space categorization process would be more prominent when the visual representation of orientation degrades such as in the case of working memory with increasing cognitive load, leading to increasing magnitude of the "class 2" oblique effect, while the "class 1" oblique effect would remain unchanged. Two experiments were performed in which an array of orientation stimuli (1-4 items) was presented and then subjects had to realign a probe stimulus within the previously presented array. In the first experiment, the delay between stimulus presentation and probe varied, while in the second experiment, the stimulus presentation time varied. The variable error was larger for oblique compared to cardinal orientations in both experiments reproducing the visual "class 1" oblique effect. The mean error also reproduced the tendency away from cardinal and toward the oblique orientations in both experiments (cognitive "class 2" oblique effect). The accuracy or the reproduced orientation degraded (increasing variable error) and the cognitive "class 2" oblique effect increased with increasing memory load (number of items) in both experiments and presentation time in the second experiment. In contrast, the visual "class 1" oblique effect was not significantly modulated by any one of these experimental factors. These results confirmed the theoretical predictions for the two anisotropies in visual orientation reproduction and provided support for models proposing the categorization of orientation in visual working memory.
