Abstract

Determining the proportion of a population at risk of inadequate or excessive nutrient intake is a crucial step in planning and managing nutrition intervention programs. Multiple days of 24-h dietary intake data per subject allow for adjustment of modeled usual nutrient intake distributions for the proportion of total variance in intake attributable to within-individual variation (WIV:total). When only single-day dietary data are available, an external adjustment factor can be used; however, WIV:total may vary by population, and use of incorrect WIV:total ratios may influence the accuracy of prevalence estimates and subsequent program impacts. WIV:total values were compiled from publications and from reanalyses of existing datasets to describe variation in WIV:total across populations and settings. The potential impact of variation in external WIV:total on estimates of prevalence of inadequacy was assessed through simulation analyses using the National Cancer Institute 1-d method. WIV:total values were extracted from 40 publications from 24 countries, and additional values were calculated from 15 datasets from 12 nations. Wide variation in WIV:total (from 0.02 to 1.00) was observed in publications and reanalyses. Few patterns by population characteristics were apparent, but WIV:total varied by age in children (< vs. >1 y) and between rural and urban settings. Simulation analyses indicated that estimates of the prevalence of inadequate intake are sensitive to the selected ratio in some cases. Selection of an external WIV:total estimate should consider comparability between the reference and primary studies with regard to population characteristics, study design, and statistical methods. Given wide variation in observed ratios with few discernible patterns, the collection of ≥2 days of intake data in at least a representative subsample in population dietary studies is strongly encouraged. In the case of single-day dietary studies, sensitivity analyses are recommended to determine the robustness of prevalence estimates to changes in the variance ratio.

14. Dietary acidity and bone mass in minority children and adolescents: a cross-sectional analysis from the MetA-Bone trial.

Abstract

Summary: Dietary acid load could be associated with bone mass, but there are limited and conflicting results. This secondary cross-sectional analysis evaluated these associations among 123 children/adolescents, mostly Hispanics. Dietary acid load seems to be associated with bone mass in boys, but these results should be confirmed through long-term studies. Background: Childhood/adolescence is key for developing strong bones. With the continuing rise in osteoporosis rates in Western societies, attention has turned to the possible impact of diets that create high levels of acid in the body. Some studies have shown an association between dietary acid load and bone mass, but there are limited studies in children/adolescents and none in Hispanics. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the associations between dietary acid load (assessed as dietary potential renal acid load, PRAL, and protein to potassium ratio) and whole-body bone mineral content (BMC) and density (BMD) in a sample of 123 children and adolescents of predominantly Hispanic ethnicity. Design: This study is a secondary cross-sectional analysis. Results: Dietary PRAL was positively associated with BMC and BMD overall (p < 0.05) and with BMC in boys (p < 0.05) when adjusted for energy misreporting only. The vegetable protein to potassium ratio was inversely associated with BMC (p = 0.004) in boys only, after adjusting for important factors. Conclusions: Dietary acid load seems to be associated with BMC in boys in this sample of primarily Hispanic children. Long-term studies are needed to confirm these results and to understand the importance of protein intake in relation to other key nutrients in bone mass acquisition among Hispanic boys. Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the price management process is being applied in business practice and research to a variety of pricing use cases that can be augmented or automated, providing opportunities as a forecasting tool or for price optimization. However, the complexity of evaluating the technology to prioritize implementation is challenging, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and guidance is sparse. Which are the relevant stakeholder criteria for a sustainable implementation of AI for pricing purpose? Which type of AI supported price functions meet these criteria best? Theoretically motivated by the hedonic price theory and advances in AI research, we identify nine criteria and eight AI supported price functions (AISPF). A multiple attribute decision model (MADM) using the fuzzy Best Worst Method (BWM) and fuzzy combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) is set up and evaluated by pricing experts from Germany and Spain. To validate our results and model stability, we carried out several random sensitivity analyses based on the weight of criteria exchange. The results suggest accuracy and reliability as the most prominent attribute to evaluate AISPF, while ethical and sustainable criteria are sorted as least important. Abstract

Health and migration are vital parts of the development cycle. Health should beunderstood not only as a state of physical and psychological well-being, but also of social well-being. Social determinants play a major role in health and, therefore, also in physical and cognitive accessibility. The aim of this study is to link both realities (migration and health), in order to study the variables of quality of life and physical, psychological and social health in the migrant population. There are three main objectives: 1) To understand the perceptions of quality of lifeand physical, psychological and social health of the migrant population; 2) To identify and describe pathologies and disabilities among migrants; and 3) To determine if there is accessibility to the health system (treatments and control). A quantitative methodology comprisingdescriptive and correlational analysis was employed. The main tool was a descriptive questionnaire, supported by three scales (The Quality of Life and Health Scale [WHOQOL-BREF]; Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale [DASS-21]; and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support [EMAS]) previously validated and proposed by international organizations, such as the World Health Organization. The main results were that levels of quality of life, psychological health and social support are moderate in the migrant population. In addition, 47.3% of the migrant population has a health pathology, with only 29% having access to health resources. The main conclusion is that the presence of pathologies and the lack of disease control among the migrant population is a sign of the need to review the actions implemented by government institutions, such as the Common European Asylum System. El síndrome de burnout en deportistas puede conllevar el abandono de la práctica deportiva en aquellos que lo padecen. Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la prevalencia del síndrome de burnout en jugadores de voleibol, tanto a nivel general, como en relación con algunas variables sociodeportivas: género, categoría generacional, nivel competitivo, posición de juego, volumen de horas de juego, número de años de práctica y padecimiento o no del Covid-19. Participaron 309 jugadores de diferentes clubes de Andalucía, de los cuales 158 eran varones (51%) y 151 mujeres (49%), con edades entre 18 y 62 años (M= 23.65 años; DT= 7.27). Utilizando la versión reducida del Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ) se halló una prevalencia total de burnout de 3.9%. A nivel global, las puntuaciones en burnout varían en función del número de años de práctica. Según sus dimensiones, el agotamiento físico y emocional está influido por el volumen de entrenamiento y el haber padecido Covid-19 y devaluación de la práctica deportiva por la posición de juego y los años de práctica., Burnout syndrome in athletes deteriorates their quality of life and can even lead to the abandonment of sports practice in those who suffer from it. Abstract

Residential exclusion processes do not occur in the same way in different territories, nor do they affect people in the same way according to their ethnicity, gender or identity. Social policies, demographic and productive factors and support networks are important issues for the study of homelessness in Spain. The aim of this study is to contribute to understanding how homelessness is managed in a small city such as Jaén. Primary information was collected through two focus groups made up of social intervention professionals and homeless people. The results obtained reveal that the resources are centralised and determined by the fruit harvesting campaigns. They identify the difficulties homeless people have in accessing employment and residential resources. In addition, differences in the characteristics and life events between homeless women and men are detected. The conclusions of the study suggest that Jaén offers significant opportunities for social intervention with homeless people. It highlights the importance of maintaining residential resources, the existence of informal support networks and the need to adapt the intervention to homeless women., Los procesos de exclusión residencial no se dan de la misma forma en los distintos territorios, ni tampoco afectan de la misma manera a las personas según su etnia, género o identidad. Las políticas sociales, los factores demográficos, productivos y las redes de apoyo son cuestiones importantes de cara al estudio del sinhogarismo en España. Desde este estudio se pretende, contribuir a conocer cómo se gestiona el sinhogarismo en una ciudad pequeña, como es el caso de Jaén. Se recopila información de carácter primario a través de la realización de dos grupos focales formados por profesionales de intervención social y personas en situación de sinhogarismo. Los resultados obtenidos revelan que los recursos se encuentran centralizados y determinados por las campañas de recolección de frutos. Identifican las dificultades de acceso de las personas sin hogar, a recursos laborales y residenciales. Además, se detectan diferencias en las características y sucesos vitales entre mujeres y hombres en situación de calle. Las conclusiones del estudio sugieren que, Jaén ofrece oportunidades significativas para la intervención social en sinhogarismo. Destaca la importancia del mantenimiento de los recursos residenciales, la existencia de redes de apoyo informal y la necesidad de adecuar la intervención a mujeres sin hogar.
