Funding Information: This study is a prospective, observational cross-sectional secondary analysis, prepared in accordance with the EQUATOR statement and the guidelines of the STROBE, with data from the study approved by the ethics committee of the University of Algarve: “Effect of physical activity on the physical and mental health of the senior population”, which were sponsored by Project: 0551_PSL_6_E–PSL–“Programme for a Long-lived Society”, INTERREG V-A Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) and financed by the cross-border Spain–Portugal European Territorial Cooperation Program and the European Regional Development Fund. One in three people aged 65 years or older falls every year. Injuries associated with this event among the older population are a major cause of pain, disability, loss of functional autonomy and institutionalization. This study aimed to assess mobility and fall risk (FR) in community-living older people and to determine reliable and independent measures (health, social, environmental and risk factors) that can predict the mobility loss and FR. In total, 192 participants were included, with a mean age of 77.93 ± 8.38. FR was assessed by EASY-Care (EC) Standard 2010, the Tinetti Test and the Modified Falls Efficacy Scale (MFES). An exploratory analysis was conducted using the divisive non-hierarchical cluster method, aiming to identify a differentiator and homogeneous group of subjects (optimal group of variables) and to verify if that group shows differences in fall risk. Individually, the health, social, environmental and risk factor categories were not found to be an optimal group; they do not predict FR. The most significant predictor variables were a mix of the different categories, namely, the presence of pain, osteoarthritis (OA), and female gender. The finding of a profile that allows health professionals to be able to quickly identify people at FR will enable a reduction in injuries and fractures resulting from falls and, consequently, the associated costs. publishersversion published

Aims: Determine the effectiveness of custom-made orthopedic footwear (OF) and total contact plantar orthoses (PO) on the quality of life (QoL) and functionality of people with type 2 diabetes with diabetic peripheral neuropathic (DPN). Methods: Randomized clinical study with 2 parallel intervention groups and pre- and post-test analysis. In the standard footwear group (SFg), PO and education on foot self-care were applied and in the orthopedic footwear group (OFg) the same intervention was applied, but with personalized OF. A total of 43 type 2 diabetic patients with DPN aged 61 – 76 years were randomized: 20 in to SFg and 23 to OFg. Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) was used to screen for DPN. QoL was assessed with Short Form–36 and functional level was evaluated by Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS), 6 physical tests and center of pressure (CoP) oscillation. Results: No differences in QoL were found between groups. OFg showed a better functional reach and mediolateral displacement of CoP (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: The OF does not show evidence on functional and QoL improvement in low-risk type 2 diabetic patients with neuropathy but both groups improved significantly in functional tests. The PO showed clinical value in these patients, so a regular and specialized treatment with appropriate footwear and plantar orthoses can play an important role in reducing the complications of diabetic neuropathy. publishersversion published

Several researches have been carried out to see the relation between the Phase Angle (PhA), disease and several health risks factors. Ageing is associated with the loss of muscle mass and changes in body composition, which result in a decrease of the PhA. Malnutrition and inflammation have been reported to have a strong influence on PhA in diseased individuals. Subjects with Osteoarthritis (OA) have decreased muscular strength and pain. Introdução: Com o aumento da esperança média de vida, aumenta a incidência e a prevalência de condições patológicas crónicas. Estas situações podem ser condicionadas pela alimentação e acarretam consequências no estado nutricional. Estas condições podem ser atenuadas com recurso a estratégias alimentares adequadas. Para melhorar a qualidade de vida da população idosa institucionalizada é fundamental a formação e a capacitação dos técnicos de instituições geriátricas sobre as principais condições que podem comprometer o estado nutricional dos seus utentes - desidratação, demência, disfagia e presença de doenças metabólicas crónicas, de forma a assegurar corretamente as suas necessidades nutricionais. Metodologia: A formação consistiu em sessões de 1h dinamizadas por nutricionistas com as seguintes temáticas: “Alimentação no idoso com demência, disfagia e hidratação” e “Doenças Metabólicas: Obesidade, Diabetes mellitus, Doenças cardiovasculares e Hipertensão arterial”. Abordaram-se as implicações destas situações no estado nutricional e apresentaram-se estratégias alimentares e nutricionais, para uma ingestão alimentar e hídrica adequadas. No final aplicaram-se questionários de avaliação dos conhecimentos adquiridos e da qualidade das formações. Resultados: A participação e aceitação nas 2 sessões realizadas (30 formandos) foi bastante positiva. A classificação global das sessões revelou resultados médios com 15,4% dos formandos a classificarem as formações como “Muito boa”, 76,9% “Boa” e 7,7%. “Suficiente”. Em média, 80% dos formandos atingiram os objetivos da sessão, conseguindo identificar, pelo menos, 4 estratégias para melhorar as situações apresentadas. Conclusão: Estas formações permitiram sensibilizar e capacitar os técnicos para a importância da alimentação como fator promotor de um envelhecimento com mais qualidade e vida. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

A interação social, atividade física e a alimentação são cruciais para a qualidade de vida. No envelhecimento, há que adaptar atitudes e relações sociais. Com o avanço da idade surgem patologias crónicas e consequentemente a polimedicação, assumindo os cuidados com os medicamentos uma maior relevância. O objetivo é dinamizar formação de proximidade, em áreas urbanas e rurais do Algarve, de modo a melhorar a qualidade de vida da população com mais idade. Metodologia A formação consiste em sessões de 2,5h dinamizadas por formadores especializados em: alimentação, farmácia e psicologia, que abordam a importância da alimentação saudável, dos cuidados com a medicação e da gestão psicológica, de forma a manter bem-estar físico e psíquico, para dar mais vida aos anos. O contacto com as autarquias, universidades sénior e instituições de apoio sénior da região do Algarve conduziu à calendarização das ações de acordo com o interesse manifestado, em diferentes áreas da região algarvia entre setembro 2018 e dezembro de 2019. Resultados Este projeto atingiu idosos alunos de universidades sénior, membros de grupos desportivos, e frequentadores de atividades comunitárias, em áreas urbanas e também a grupos de áreas rurais. A participação e aceitação foi bastante positiva. Com as 5 sessões realizadas atingiram-se 80 formandos e há 4 novas sessões previstas em diferentes concelhos (Fig.1). Mestrado em Gestão das Organizações : Ramo de Gestão de Empresas (parceria com a APNOR) na Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo O presente relatório tem como intuito relatar as várias atividades de marketing digital realizadas no decorrer do estágio curricular, durante os meses de outubro 2015 e março 2016, na empresa BPHL – Assessoria Informática e de Gestão, no âmbito do Mestrado em Gestão das Organizações no ramo da Gestão de Empresas. O relatório é composto por quatro partes, designadamente o enquadramento teórico referente ao marketing digital, a apresentação da empresa de acolhimento do estágio, a descrição das atividades realizadas no estágio e as conclusões críticas. No enquadramento teórico, começa-se por realizar-se uma breve apresentação dos conceitos de Marketing Digital. Posteriormente explica-se de forma resumida o Plano de Marketing Digital e, por fim, identifica-se as principais ferramentas do Marketing Digital e as suas respetivas ferramentas de análise. Por último, descreve-se as atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio curricular e apresenta-se uma conclusão com uma reflexão crítica sobre as aprendizagens, as dificuldades e as propostas de melhoria, segundo a perspetiva obtida. The purpose of this report is to report on the various digital marketing activities carried out during the course of the curriculum internship during the months of October 2015 and March 2016 at the company BPHL - Assessoria Informatics e de Gestion, within the scope of the Masters in Management of Organizations in the field Of Business Management. The report consists of four parts, namely the theoretical framework for digital marketing, the presentation of the company hosting the internship, the description of the activities carried out in the internship and the critical conclusions. The theoretical framework begins by making a brief contextualization that reflects the concept of Digital Marketing. Subsequently, the Digital Marketing Plan is briefly explained and, finally, the main tools of Digital Marketing and its respective analysis tools are identified. Finally, we describe the activities developed in the context of work during the curricular internship and a conclusion is made where I make a critical reflection on the learning, the difficulties and the proposals of improvement, according to the perspective obtained.

The ageing of population challenges communities to adapt and evolve to accommodate the needs of people that live longer (mostly out of work, either healthy, fragile or with chronic disease). Population ageing in the Algarve is higher than in overall Portugal. Studies on health conditions, frailty risk factors and elderly specific needs are undeveloped in Portugal and unknown in the Algarve. Objective To prepare a tool for Global Geriatric Evaluation, to be used in the “Survey of Health and Ageing in the Region of Algarve - SHARA”, a commitment to “European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing”. Methods A preliminary version of the screening tool, which includes well-known instruments to measure health condition (EASY-care), risk of fall (Tinetty), physical activity (Baecke’s modified questionnaire), nutritional condition (MNA), cognitive and depressive status (MMSE, Yesavage geriatric depression scale), together with socio-demographic characteristics, was applied to an independent sample of subjects from an elderly community centre - ARPI (“Associação de Reformados, Pensionistas e Idosos do Concelho de Faro”), with ages between 55 and 89. Results ARPI is mostly frequented by women, who either have risk of malnutrition or malnutrition incidence, a relevant risk of fall or are physically active. Those who live alone, show a higher risk of fall. Conclusions ARPI members are active, but with risk of malnutrition and fall, suggesting the relevance and importance of future interventions in these areas. The proposed screening tool showed to be adequate for the SHARA study, suitable to provide wider information on frailty.

A população com mais de 60 anos está a crescer a um ritmo maior do que a população total em praticamente todas as regiões do mundo. Em 1950 , existiam 205 milhões de pessoas com 60 ou mais anos no mundo. Em 2012 chegava quase aos 810 milhões. Em 2050 prevê-se que seja 2 bilhões.
