Abstract

The $^{10}$B+$^{120}$Sn reaction has been systematically studied at laboratory energies around the Coulomb barrier: E$_{\rm LAB}=$31.5, 33.5, 35.0, and 37.5 MeV. Cross sections for the elastic scattering and some reaction processes have been measured: excitation to the $1^+$ state of $^{10}$B; excitation to the $2^+$ and $3^-$ states of $^{120}$Sn; and the one-neutron pick-up transfer $^{120}$Sn($^{10}$B,$^{11}$B)$^{119}$Sn. Coupled reaction channel (CRC) calculations have been performed in the context of the double-folding S\~ao Paulo potential. The theoretical calculations result in a good overall description of the experimental angular distributions. The effect on the theoretical elastic-scattering angular distributions of couplings to the inelastic and transfer states (through the CRC calculations) and to the continuum states (through continuum-discretized coupled-channels calculations) has been investigated.

Abstract

The elastic scattering of the radioactive halo nucleus 6He on 27Al target was measured at four energies close to the Coulomb barrier using the RIBRAS (Radioactive Ion Beams in Brazil) facility. The Sao Paulo Potential(SPP) was used and its diffuseness and imaginary strength were adjusted to fit the elastic scattering angular distributions. Reaction cross-sections were extracted from the optical model fits. The reduced reaction cross-sections of 6He on 27Al are similar to those for stable, weakly bound projectiles as {6,7}Li, 9Be and larger than stable, tightly bound projectile as 16O on 27Al., Comment: 7 pages, 1 table, 3 figures

Abstract

We study the behavior of the fusion, break-up, reaction and elastic scattering of different projectiles on $^{64}$Zn, at near and above barrier energies. We present fusion and elastic scattering data with the tightly bound $^{16}$O and the stable weakly bound $^{6}$Li, $^{7}$Li and $^{9}$Be projectiles. The data were analyzed by coupled channel calculations. The total fusion cross sections for these systems are not affected by the break-up process at energies above the barrier. The elastic (non-capture) break-up cross section is important at energies close and above the Coulomb barrier and increases the reaction cross sections. In addition we also show that the break-up process at near and sub-barrier energies is responsible for the vanishing of the usual threshold anomaly of the optical potential and give rise to a new type of anomaly., Comment: 24 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

Autonomy and unmanned systems have evolved significantly in recent decades, becoming a key routine component for various sectors and domains as an intrinsic sign of their improvement, the ocean not being an exception. This paper shows the transition from the research concept to the commercial product and related services for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV). Note that it has not always been easy in most cases due to the limitations of the technology, business, and policy framework. An overview of current trends in USV technology looking for a baseline to understand the sector where some experiences of the authors are shown in this work. The analysis presented shows a multidisciplinary approach to the field. USV's capabilities and applications today include a wide range of operations and services aimed at meeting the specific needs of the maritime sector. Abstract

The delayed x-ray detection technique was used to measure complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for the Be9+Sm144 reaction at sub- and near-barrier energies. Elastic and inelastic scattering for this system were also measured. Reaction cross sections were derived and the transfer cross sections of one neutron were calculated. The suppression of complete fusion above the barrier, of the order of 10%, is attributed to Be9 breakup and is considerably smaller than the value of 30% found for the Be9+Pb208 system.

Abstract

Complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for the 9Be + 144Sm reaction have been measured at near-barrier energies, using the delayed X-ray detection technique. At above-barrier energies these show a suppression of complete fusion for this weakly bound projectile on an intermediate mass target. The suppression factor, attributed to 9Be break-up, was deduced from a comparison of complete fusion yields with coupled-channels calculations, and appears consistent with measured incomplete fusion product yields. At ∼10%, it is considerably smaller than the value of ∼30% previously found for a 208Pb target. Simultaneous measurements of elastic and inelastic scattering permit a clearer picture of the reaction mechanisms.

Abstract

A systematic review of results involving fusion of weakly bound systems is presented. Those systems involve both stable and radioactive weakly bound projectiles. The systematic is studied through the comparison of data for several systems, using the procedure of analyzing renormalized fusion functions. The systematic of complete fusion suppression of reactions induced by 9Be as a function of the target charge is also shown. Through the analysis of elastic scattering data for weakly bound systems, we also present the systematics for the values of total reaction cross sections and the presence of the breakup threshold anomaly in the interacting potential of those systems. Abstract

We discuss the influence of the breakup process of weakly bound nuclei on the fusion cross section. The complete fusion for heavy targets is found to be suppressed due to the incomplete fusion following the breakup, whereas this effect is negligible for light targets. The total fusion cross sections for stable projectiles are not affected by the breakup process, whereas it is suppressed for halo projectiles. Abstract

The RIBRAS (Radioactive Ion Beams Brazil) facility recently installed at the Pelletron Laboratory of the University of São Paulo consists of two superconducting solenoids used to produce and focalize beams of light radioactive nuclei, as 6He, 7Be,8Li etc. The low energy, light, radioactive beams available are used to study reactions close to the Coulomb barrier. The elastic scattering of the radioactive halo nucleus 6He on 27Al target was measured at four energies close to the Coulomb barrier. Reaction cross sections were extracted from the optical model fits, using the São Paulo Potential (SPP). The reduced reaction cross sections of 6He on 27Al were compared to reduced reaction cross sections for other projectiles as 6,7Li, 9Be and 16O on 27Al and they are larger than those for stable projectiles by an amount similar to the calculated nuclear break-up cross section for this system. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
