It is necessary to recognize the human knee movement for patients with knee joint pain (arthritis) and also in patients' under-recovery. Pressure variation around the knee joint is considered as a piece of vital information to address the problems in knee joint. Wearable sensors are the generally appropriate procedure for this. In this work, sensing mechanism are arranged in a suitable patella package using CNF (Carbon Nano Fiber) and TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) based nanocomposite piezo-resistive (20% w/w) sensor film with bulk resistivity of 192Ω-cm. It is further tested for its suitability for monitoring the change in the resistance due to pressure variation during knee movement. The reliability of voltage variation under rehashed compressive stacking lab experiments shows significant usage for this piezoresistive film. Clinical diagnosis of grouped vesicular lesions in pediatric age group needs a detailed history and meticulous dermatological assessment of the morphology. Lymphangioma circumscriptum (LC) is one rare condition suspected with classic clinical presentation. Frog spawn appearance and black vesicles are two clues for making a clinical diagnosis. Here, we report a case of LC over thigh in an adolescent girl in view of its rare age of presentation and unusual location.

Pelger-Huet anomaly (PHA) is a rare benign genetic disorder affecting terminal differentiation of granulocytes. Granulocytes have hyposegmented nuclei with normal cytoplasmic granularity and perform immune function. Knowledge about PHA is necessary to avoid misdiagnosis of hyposegmented granulocytes as increased band forms (bandemia) and to differentiate it from pseudo Pelger-Huet cells found in certain pathological conditions. Here, we report a case of PHA in neutrophils of a 46-year-old female found during routine peripheral smear examination. Abstract Background COVID-19 is a multi-system infection with emerging evidence-based antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapies to improve disease prognosis. However, a subset of patients with COVID-19 signs and symptoms have repeatedly negative RT-PCR tests, leading to treatment hesitancy. We used comparative serology early in the COVID-19 pandemic when background seroprevalence was low to estimate the likelihood of COVID-19 infection among RT-PCR negative patients with clinical signs and/or symptoms compatible with COVID-19. Methods Between April and October 2020, we conducted serologic testing of patients with (i) signs and symptoms of COVID-19 who were repeatedly negative by RT-PCR (‘Probables’; N = 20), (ii) signs and symptoms of COVID-19 but with a potential alternative diagnosis (‘Suspects’; N = 15), (iii) no signs and symptoms of COVID-19 (‘Non-suspects’; N = 43), (iv) RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 patients (N = 40), and (v) pre-pandemic samples (N = 55). Results Probables had similar seropositivity and levels of IgG and IgM antibodies as propensity-score matched RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 patients (60.0% vs 80.0% for IgG, p-value = 0.13; 50.0% vs 72.5% for IgM, p-value = 0.10), but multi-fold higher seropositivity rates than Suspects and matched Non-suspects (60.0% vs 13.3% and 11.6% for IgG; 50.0% vs 0% and 4.7% for IgM respectively; p-values

Background: An acute abdomen in children is often a challenging scenario for clinicians as it is caused by various medical and surgical conditions. Although symptomatology and specific clinical findings point directly to few causes, thorough history and in-depth clinical examination help to systematically narrow down the differential diagnosis. Clinical Description: We report a rare case of acute salpingitis in an 8-year-old prepubertal female child presenting with acute abdominal pain and fever for 3 days. Examination revealed diffuse abdominal tenderness with guarding and rigidity along with an ill-defined, tender mass in the right iliac fossa. Management: Abdominal ultrasound showed a hyperechoic mass in the right iliac fossa and the appendix was not visualized. The child was kept nil oral and started on broad-spectrum antibiotics. However, the child developed abdominal distension and worsening of pain over the next 24 h. The child was taken up for emergency laparotomy, and a complex mass in the right iliac fossa adherent to small bowel and covered by omentum was noted. Histopathological examination of the excised right iliac fossa mass showed acutely inflamed right fallopian tube. Normal appendix was noted in the postoperative ultrasonogram. Conclusion: It is important to differentiate surgical causes from nonsurgical ones to avoid unnecessary surgery and its complications. Salpingitis may mimic acute appendicitis because of nonspecific symptomatology and radiological signs and should be considered as a differential diagnosis for acute abdomen, even in a prepubertal female child.

Saliva has been a COVID-19 diagnostic specimen of interest due to its simple collection, scalability, and yield. Yet COVID-19 testing and estimates of the infectious period remain largely based on nasopharyngeal and nasal swabs. We sought to evaluate whether saliva testing captured prolonged presence of SARS-CoV-2 and potential infectiousness later in the disease course. We conducted an observational study of symptomatic COVID-19 patients at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. Paired saliva and nasal specimens from 96 patients were analyzed, including longitudinal analysis of paired observations from 28 of these patients who had multiple time-points. Saliva detected significantly more cases of COVID-19 beyond 5 days (86.1% [99/115] saliva vs 48.7% [56/115] nasal, p-value < 0.001), 9 days (79.4% [50/63] saliva vs 36.5% [23/63] nasal, p-value < 0.001) and 14 days (71.4% [20/28] saliva vs 32.1% [9/28] nasal, p-value = 0.010) of symptoms. Additionally, saliva yielded lower cycle thresholds across all time periods, indicative of higher viral loads in saliva. Forests are considered as a sacred asset in India and have guided the way of living throughout its history. Indian forests not only accommodate the myriad species but also act as a survival support system to the communities that depended on them. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development proposed by the United Nations (UN) has gained momentum and becomes an integral part of the recent efforts of Indian governance. In this investigation, we examined the potential nexus between Indian forestry system (biodiversity-enriched assets, ecosystem services, constitutional mechanisms, and governances) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through theoretical underpinnings from literature that selected from database like Google Scholar, Indian forest survey reports, and information retrieved from Indian government websites. The significance of this review is that it presents comprehensive information about Indian forestry, biodiversity-rich assets, and sustainable forest management practices. The results show that Indian forestry as a whole is an integral part of the food-energy-water cycle and contributes to all dimensions of sustainable development, i.e., economic sustainability, social sustainability, and environmental sustainability. The investigation confirms that besides partly contributing to the economy and life support systems to many dependent species, forests also act as boosters in the areas of food security and health. Targets related to the climate action, peace, and partnership goals are well in place through various forestry interventions and environmental commitments by the Government of India.

Dyspnea in a woman of reproductive age group is a common condition encountered in clinical practice. Neoplasms of the female genital tract may also present with dyspnea creating diagnostic dilemma. A detailed history and thorough evaluation helps to clinch the diagnosis in such cases. We report the case of a reproductive-aged nulliparous woman who presented with dyspnea having multiple pulmonary solid nodules diagnosed with invasive mole by histopathology.

Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare genetic disorder due to defects in structures derived from ectoderm. It occurs due to mutation in genes that encode proteins involved in the development of ectodermal structures. Males show full expression of the disorder, whereas females show minimal signs of disorder because of the usual X-linked recessive pattern of inheritance. Common defects include hypodontia, onychodysplasia, hypotrichosis, and reduced or absence of sweat glands. The incidence of ectodermal dysplasia is seven in 10,000 live births. It is important to prevent hyperpyrexia, a life-threatening complication in hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia patients. Here, we are reporting a rare case of anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia in a 16-year-old male patient with a positive family history of the same condition.

Progressive pallor with hepatosplenomegaly is an alarming constellation of signs in children indicating a serious, ongoing disease process which has to be investigated for. Anemia and hepatosplenomegaly can be caused by a wide spectrum of conditions ranging from benign to life-threatening ones. We report the case of a 4-year-old child who presented with progressive pallor and hepatosplenomegaly along with diagnostic approach and review of literature. The child was diagnosed to have Gaucher disease.

Cutaneous nodules in children arise from variety of pathologic conditions. Thorough history taking and clinical examination helps in narrowing down the differential diagnosis and reducing the need for an extensive panel of investigatons. Here, we report a case of cutaneous nodules in an adolescent male which posed diagnosed challenge and finally diagnosed with cytology.
