Background: This study aimed to establish the effectiveness of a hypertension knowledge education intervention among Indian adolescents to foster lifestyle changes aimed at preventing hypertension. Methods: The Hypertension Knowledge Test (HKT) was used to assess changes in knowledge using a repeated-measures one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The Healthy Lifestyle Practice Scale for Children and Adolescents (HELIPSCA) indexed healthy lifestyle practices, with paired t -tests used to compare pre- and post-intervention scores. A two-way mixed ANOVA examined changes in healthy lifestyle practices among adolescents divided in terms of early and late stage of development. Results: Significant mean differences were observed in overall hypertension knowledge across four domains: general awareness, lifestyle factors, causes and care, and medication management and across time periods. There was a significant improvement in HELIPSCA scores post-intervention, particularly among early adolescents. Conclusion: The hypertension knowledge intervention examined in this study was effective in establishing a cognitive base among school children, with knowledge retention observed for 3 months. Moreover, this knowledge increase was associated with a parallel change in improved healthy lifestyle practices, notably among early adolescents. These findings underscore the importance of providing school-based education programmes early in adolescence to promote awareness of chronic illnesses and encourage healthy lifestyle choices. Various factors contribute to the success and life satisfaction of individuals. Grit, however, becomes the most important one in the long run. Grit, described as commitment to long-term goals and perseverance, can be crucial for personal development. This study aims to investigate the relationship between grit, curiosity, and life satisfaction through a correlational research design. Through purposive sampling, a sample of 390 participants (181 women, 208 men, and one unspecified gender) was recruited and administered the Grit scale, Curiosity and Exploration Inventory-II, and Life satisfaction scale. The study's results were analyzed using SPSS 23 and AMOS 21, illuminating the substantial indirect influence of grit on life satisfaction, mediated by curiosity, and a direct, positive impact of grit on life satisfaction. These findings reinforce the idea that well-being is a complex interplay of psychological traits and experiences. Encouraging a holistic approach to personal development and well-being, considering factors like grit and curiosity, can lead to more fulfilling and satisfying lives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between the domains of perceived social support (PSS), perceived control of internal states (PCOIS) and well-being (WB) among police personnel. One hundred twenty two police officers (106 males and 16 females) from the state of Odisha, India were selected using purposive sampling method and were required to fill up the perceived social support, perceived control of internal states and well-being questionnaires. The relationships among these variables were examined using Pearson product moment correlation. The impact of social support and perceived control of internal states on well-being was analysed by multiple hierarchical regression analysis. Significant positive relationships among all these variables were noted. The relationship between the social support from friends' domain and well-being was not significant. In addition, well-being was predicted by both perceived social support and perceived control of internal states. The findings of this study can help in developing interventions which can enhance the well-being of police personnel by targeting their perceived social support and perceived control of internal states. BACKGROUND: Well-being is a desired and optimal state of functioning of individuals, which may be modified through various psychological factors. Mindfulness is a cultivable state of mind, which enhances experiential processing of stimuli. It is hypothesized that apart from mindfulness, the social environment of the individual vis-à-vis social support may help predict well-being. This study was done to examine mindfulness, social support, and well-being, their relationship and role in the Indian population. METHODS: Through purposive sampling, 375 men and women (mean age = 35.05 years; standard deviation = 12.82) were recruited into the study and were administered the cognitive and affective mindfulness scale-revised, interpersonal support evaluation list, and the brief inventory of thriving. The obtained quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient (Pearson's r), and multiple hierarchical regression analysis. RESULTS: The results showed a positive correlation among mindfulness, social support and its dimensions (tangible, appraisal, and belonging), and well-being. Regression analyses revealed that mindfulness and social support in combination contributed to well-being, where belonging support was seen to be a unique significant predictor. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that both mindfulness and social support are significant indices of well-being, and this is especially useful in developing psychosocial interventions that would enhance well-being. Diabetes is one of the highly prevalent non communicable diseases (NCD) that has invaded both developed and developing countries. The WHO projections for the world as well as specific countries are highly alarming. Interventions consequent upon these projections must target children who constitute vulnerable population for the projected year. The first stepping stone towards such intervention is to measure the existing knowledge about the disease in children. The present study combined the qualitative and quantitative methods in exploring children's concept of diabetes. Asample of 548 children from three schools studying in class VI through X were administered an open ended question to get data on children's understanding of the concept of diabetes. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The content analyses identified five broad themes, viz., the definition, causes, symptoms, consequences and management of diabetes. Responses indicating misconceptions were grouped separately. Anew method of measuring the complexity of the concept was used. The response divergence indicating explanation of the disease across the themes was measured by computing 'Entropy values' using a formula. The response divergence or conceptual complexity was measured for each class. Results indicated a sudden spurt in conceptual complexity in class X. Results also indicated a dismally low level of knowledge about diabetes and large number of misconceptions. Low levels of knowledge and huge misconceptions warrant public health measures through awareness programmes in campaign mode. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many diabetes patients neglect their role in management of diabetes, which requires self- management in addition to medical treatment. This correlational study examined self-efficacy, outcome expectancy and self-management of type 2 diabetes patients. It was hypothesized that self-efficacy and outcome expectancy would be predictors of self-management. Seventy eight patients from different hospitals and clinics of Mizoram were administered the Multidimensional Diabetes Questionnaire and Diabetes Self-management Questionnaire. The results provided considerable support of the hypotheses. The implications of the present findings for intervention of chronic illness, shortcomings of the present study and future directions were discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of the study was to find out the difference in Illness Perception and Well-Being among three groups of hypertensive patients based on their duration of illness and to explore the relationship between the two dependent variables. A between-subjects design was adopted and 150 individuals were purposely selected and divided into three groups, based on their duration of illness, viz. less than one year, between one and five years and more than five years. The Illness Perception Questionnaire-Revised and Well-Being Self Assessment was used to measure the variables. The data was analysed using one-way ANOVA, post-hoc test and Pearson's Product-moment correlation. The three groups were found to differ significantly on the overall score of illness perception and well being and the seven dimensions of illness perception. Pair-wise comparisons of Tukey's HSD revealed that illness perception and well-being was better in the group diagnosed with more hypertension for more than five years. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to (i) develop a self-report instrument to measure adjustment to chronic illness, (ii) evaluate its core structure and (iii) study various psychometric properties in the development of this instrument., Method: The entire process of developing and validating the instrument is conducted in different phases: item writing and content validation; exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to extract dimensions of the instrument; reliability and validity testing. A total of 1095 participants were included in the study. The EFA was run using IBM SPSS 23 and CFA was done by AMOS 21., Results: The Cronbach alpha of the chronic illness adjustment scale was found to be .70.
