Diplomityössä tarkastellaan teräsrakenteiden, erityisesti hitsattujen teräsrakenteiden tuotannossa ja niiden koko elinkaaren aikaisessa käytössä syntyvän dokumenttiaineiston digitaalista tallentamista, siirtoa verkossa ja muuta käyttöä. Dokumenttiaineisto voi käsittää automaattisesti tai manuaalisesti tuotettuja tekstejä, kuvia, kaavioita, piirustuksia ja auditiivisia tallenteita. Dokumentteja hallitaan dokumenttialustalla, jonka suunnitteluperusteet esitetään tässä työssä. Työ on menetelmätutkimus. Sovellettavaksi menetelmäksi on valittu lohkoketjuteknologia. Sitä ja sen mahdollisuuksia tarkastellaan varsinaisen lohkoketjun lisäksi myös kyseiseen teknologiaan läheisesti liittyvien tai liitettävien tietoteknisten ratkaisujen kautta. Näitä ovat muun muassa älykäs automaatio ja tiedonsiirron varmistamismenetelmät. Tietoturvaongelmien ratkaiseminen on keskeisessä asemassa. Dokumenttialusta perustuu tietokoneohjelmalle, jonka ohjelmointiperiaatteet ja -menetelmät esitetään ja perustellaan. Oleellisia elementtejä ovat muun muassa hajautettu tietokanta, funktionaalinen ohjelmointi ja asynkroninen tiedonsiirto. Menetelmien soveltamisessa on toki lähdetty oppikirjamaisista ja tavanomaisista ratkaisuista, mutta osin niiden rajoittaviin ominaisuuksiin on suhtauduttu kriittisesti ja uusiin tapoihin pyrkien. Lähtökohtana on itse ongelma, tässä tapauksessa digitaalisen tiedon tietoturvallinen tallentaminen ja jakaminen, jonka tarvitsemat ratkaisut määrittelevät käytettävät ohjelmistokielet ja -työkalut. Vaikka työn lähtökohtana on terästeollisuuden digitalisaatio, esitettyjen ratkaisujen perustana oleva tietokoneohjelma on geneerinen. Valituille menetelmille antaakin vahvan tukensa se, että työn tekijä on ne jo toteuttanut useissa integrointiohjelmissa, joita on otettu käyttöön kymmenissä yrityksissä globaalisti. The thesis investigates the secured digital data recording, transferring and delivering in particular welded steel structures. The entire life cycle of the steel structures is included. Document material can be automatically or manually generated texts, images, charts, drawings, and audio recordings. Documents are managed on a document platform, whose design basics are presented in this work. The work is a methodology study. The applied technology is a block chain technology. IT solutions closely related to the block chain technology are also studied. These IT solutions include for example intelligent automation and data transfer methods. Solving related security problems is a key factor through the study. Programming principles and methods are presented and justified in this work. Essential elements include decentralised database, functional programming and asynchronous data transfer. The application has been based on conventional solutions, but some of their restrictive features have been critically addressed and sought new ways using the latest scientific research. The starting point is the problem itself: a data safe storage and sharing of the digital information. The solution is determined before the selection of the software languages, other programming tools and operating systems. The work is based on the digitalisation of the steel industry. The computer program underlying the proposed solution is generic and therefore useful to any other branch of the industry. The selected methods are strongly supported by the fact that the author has already implemented similar methods in a number of integration programs that have been introduced in dozens of companies globally.

Yllättävät koneen tai muun teknisen järjestelmän vikauttavat ongelmat ovat tapauskohtaisia, mutta niiden ratkaisua on mahdollista ideoida tekniikan eri alojen käytännöistä. Tässä työssä tarkastellaan analogian käyttöä ja mahdollisuuksia tutkimusmenetelmänä kahden tekniikan eri alan ongelman ratkaisuissa. Esimerkkinä opinnäytetyössä käytetään perämoottorin murtosokkaa, joka estää ulko- puolisen häiriön leviämisen moottoriin. Tiedonsiirto-ongelmissa yllättäviä, joskus jopa koko järjestelmän lamauttavia, yhdessä kohdassa esiintyviä virheitä kutsutaan SPOF-ongelmaksi. Opinnäytetyössä otetaan kirjallisuudesta esimerkkejä sekä perämoottorin murtosokan että SPOF-ilmiön ominaisuuksista. Lähtökohtana on, että murtosokka on ratkaisu ongelmaan, SPOF-ilmiö puolestaan on ongelma, jonka ratkaisemisessa voitaisiin käyttää murtosokan toiminnallisia ominaisuuksia eli niin sanottuja ”ohjelmallisia murtosokkia”. The shear pin of the outboard motor is very useful protection against greater damages, if something hits the propeller. In other words shear pin is preventing and isolating these errors spreading to the rest of the system. Acronym SPOF (Single Point of Failure) describes the situation, when the single point fails and according to that the entire system will be broken at least awhile. In this thesis the analogical reasoning is used to find out, if it possible to support conclusion that SPOF problems of the data communication in the computer networks are possible to prevent by the “programmable shear pin”. Few similarities are highlighted between power transmission and data communication. These similarities are used to justificate the use of Intel Management Engine platform to provide location for these “programmable shear pins”.

This study results a view to the key elements of value creation in platform based service innovation, the process of service innovation and the creation of value in platform based service innovation. These results will be viewed from a beauty service platform called Timma. Theoretical contributions are that in value generation process joint sphere can be flexible and occur also in the provider sphere and part of the customer sphere changes to joint sphere. For service ecosystems it is crucial to have good communication and interaction and creating these communications in the back-end phase of development with the customers. Managerial implications are emphasized by communication and interaction, between customers themselves, but also customers and the platform provider. This study focuses on digital enabled platforms and their value creation and value generation process in the field of beauty services, which leaves space for further research in the field of value creation in digitally enabled platforms.

Vuoden 2017 jälkeen käyttöönotettavissa Euroopan unionin rautatiejärjestelmässä liikennöivissä vetureissa ja henkilöliikenteen vaunuissa käytettävien materiaalien ja komponenttien tulee täyttää standardissa SFS-EN 45545-2 (Kiskoliikenne. Palotorjunta kiskoajoneuvoissa. Osa2: Materiaalien ja komponenttien palamiskäyttäytymisvaatimukset.) asetetut palamiskäyttäytymisvaatimukset. Työn tavoitteena oli laatia standardista ja siinä palamiskäyttäytymisen tutkimiseen määritetyistä testimenetelmistä kirjallinen selostus, jota voidaan käyttää helposti materiaalina tutustuessa materiaaleille ja komponenteille asetettuihin palamiskäyttäytymisvaatimuksiin ja palamiskäyttäytymisen arvioimiseen. Työn tavoitteena oli myös laatia kaksikerrosvaunussa käytetyistä komponenteista lista, josta selviää mitä testejä komponenteille tulee tehdä. Työ tehtiin Transtech Oy:lle. Työssä tutustuttiin palamisteoriaan, palamistuotteiden muodostumiseen, tulipalon kehittymiseen, paloturvallisuuteen, evakuointiin sekä palotestaukseen yleisesti. Työssä tutustuttiin myös Transtech Oy:n valmistamaan kiskokalustoon, kiskoajoneuvo-onnettomuuksiin, Euroopan unionin rautatiejärjestelmää ja siinä liikennöiviä kiskoajoneuvoja koskeviin turvallisuusmääräyksiin sekä aiheeseen liittyviin standardeihin. Standardeista SFS-EN 45545-1 ja SFS-EN 45545-2 sekä vuoden 2017 loppuun asti sovellettavasta standardista DIN 5510-2 kirjoitettiin kuvaukset, joista selviää standardien pääkohdat. Standardissa SFS-EN 45545-2 määritetyistä testimenetelmistä kirjoitettiin myös kuvaukset, joista käy ilmi, mitä ominaisuutta kullakin testimenetelmällä testataan, millaisia tuotteita testimenetelmillä voi testata ja millaisia testikäytännöt ovat. Työssä tutustuttiin kaksikerrosvaunun rakenteeseen ja siinä käytetyistä komponenteista tehtiin listaus. Työn tuloksena saatiin kirjallinen selostus, jota työn tilaajayritys voi jatkossa hyödyntää perehdyttäessä työntekijöitä aiheeseen. Selostuksesta käy ilmi, millaisia palamiskäyttäytymisvaatimuksia materiaaleille ja komponenteille asetetaan ja millaisia palotestejä niille tulee tehdä. Selostusta voidaan käyttää pääosin vain kiskokaluston suunnittelun yhteydessä, koska käsitellyt vaatimukset koskevat vain kiskokalustoa. Tehdystä komponenttilistauksesta voidaan selvittää helposti, millaisia testejä komponenteille tulee tehdä. Lisäksi listaa voidaan käyttää tarkistuslistana, johon merkitään, onko vaadittavat testit tehty ja onko niitä läpäisty. Fire behaviour of materials and components used in locomotives and passenger railway vehicles which will be brought into use after the year 2017 and which will be used in the European Union rail system should meet the requirements set in the standard SFS-EN 45545-2 (Railway Applications. Fire Protection on Railway Vehicles. Part 2: Requirements for fire behaviour of materials and components). The aim of the thesis project was to write a representation of the standard and the test methods defined in the standard. The representation can be used to become acquainted with fire behaviour requirements set to the materials and components and assessment of fire behaviour of materials and components. The aim of the thesis project was also to compile the list of the components used in the double deck coach. From the list becomes clear which tests needs to be done to the components. The thesis project was made for Transtech Oy. The author of the thesis became familiar with the theory of combustion, formation of combustion products, fire development, fire safety, evacuation and fire testing. The author also became familiar with railway vehicles manufactured by the client company, railway vehicle incidents, safety regulations concerning the European Union rail system and railway vehicles used in it and with standards concerning the subject. Descriptions were written from the standards SFS-EN 45545-1 and SFS-EN 45545-2 and also from the standard DIN 5510-2 that is applied at the end of year 2017. Descriptions deal with essentials of the standards. Descriptions from the test methods defined in the standard SFS-EN 45545-2 were also written. The author also became familiar with the structure of the double deck coach and the list of the components used in it was complied. Outcome of the thesis project was the written representation and the component list. The written representation can be used to get employees become acquainted with the subject. Fire behaviour requirements of materials and components and required test methods are described in the representation. The representation can be mainly used when designing railway vehicles because discussed requirements concern only railway vehicles. From the component list it is easy to look up which tests need to be done for each component. It is possible to use the component list as a checklist and mark if the required tests have been carried out and whether they are passed.

Advances in miniaturisation have led to the development of new wireless measurement technologies such as wireless sensor networks (WSNs). A WSN consists of low cost nodes, which are battery-operated devices, capable of sensing the environment, transmitting and receiving, and computing. While a WSN has several advantages, including cost-effectiveness and easy installation, the nodes suffer from small memory, low computing power, small bandwidth and limited energy supply. In order to cope with restrictions on resources, data processing methods should be as efficient as possible. As a result, high quality approximates are preferred instead of accurate answers. The aim of this thesis was to propose an efficient entropy approximation method for resource-constrained environments. Specifically, the algorithm should use a small, constant amount of memory, and have certain accuracy and low computational demand. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated experimentally with three case studies. The first study focused on the online monitoring of WSN communications performance in an industrial environment. The monitoring approach was based on the observation that entropy could be applied to assess the impact of interferences on time-delay variation of periodic tasks. The main purpose of the additional two cases, depth of anaesthesia (DOA) -monitoring and benchmarking with simulated data sets was to provide additional evidence on the general applicability of the proposed method. Moreover, in case of DOA-monitoring, an efficient entropy approximation could assist in the development of handheld devices or processing large amount of online data from different channels simultaneously. The initial results from the communication and DOA monitoring applications as well as from simulations were encouraging. Therefore, based on the case studies, the proposed method was able to meet the stated requirements. Since entropy is a widely used quantity, the method is also expected to have a variety of applications in measurement systems with similar requirements. Tiivistelmä Mekaanisten- ja puolijohdekomponenttien pienentyminen on mahdollistanut uusien mittaustekniikoiden, kuten langattomien anturiverkkojen kehittämisen. Anturiverkot koostuvat halvoista, paristokäyttöisistä solmuista, jotka pystyvät mittaamaan ympäristöään sekä käsittelemään, lähettämään ja vastaanottamaan tietoja. Anturiverkkojen etuja ovat kustannustehokkuus ja helppo käyttöönotto, rajoitteina puolestaan vähäinen muisti- ja tiedonsiirtokapasiteetti, alhainen laskentateho ja rajoitettu energiavarasto. Näiden rajoitteiden vuoksi solmuissa käytettävien laskentamenetelmien tulee olla mahdollisimman tehokkaita. Tämän työn tavoitteena oli esittää tehokas entropian laskentamenetelmä resursseiltaan rajoitettuihin ympäristöihin. Algoritmin vaadittiin olevan riittävän tarkka, muistinkulutukseltaan pieni ja vakiosuuruinen sekä laskennallisesti tehokas. Työssä kehitetyn menetelmän suorituskykyä tutkittiin sovellusesimerkkien avulla. Ensimmäisessä tapauksessa perehdyttiin anturiverkon viestiyhteyksien reaaliaikaiseen valvontaan. Lähestymistavan taustalla oli aiempi tutkimus, jonka perusteella entropian avulla voidaan havainnoida häiriöiden vaikutusta viestien viiveiden vaihteluun. Muiden sovellusesimerkkien, anestesian syvyysindikaattorin ja simulaatiokokeiden, päätavoite oli tutkia menetelmän yleistettävyyttä. Erityisesti anestesian syvyyden seurannassa menetelmän arvioitiin voivan olla lisäksi hyödyksi langattomien, käsikäyttöisten syvyysmittareiden kehittämisessä ja suurten mittausmäärien reaaliaikaisessa käsittelyssä. Alustavat tulokset langattoman verkon yhteyksien ja anestesian syvyyden valvonnasta sekä simuloinneista olivat lupaavia. Sovellusesimerkkien perusteella esitetty algoritmi kykeni vastaamaan asetettuihin vaatimuksiin. Koska entropia on laajalti käytetty suure, menetelmä saattaa soveltua useisiin mittausympäristöihin, joissa on samankaltaisia vaatimuksia.

This literature review studies the wireless technologies, their applications, characteristics, design criteria and requirements for process automation applications, focusing especially on wireless sensor networks (WSN). Additionally, implementation of an application example, wireless monitoring of temperature and pressure of a steam boiler, is also presented. The review indicates that the wireless automation systems are often hybrid in nature, combining legacy fieldbus systems and heterogeneous networks. The design criteria and requirements for industrial applications are stricter than compared to some other domains, for example environmental monitoring, home and building automation. According to review, wireless technologies provide potential for industrial applications, but additional research may be required on interoperability, reliability, data processing techniques and energy consumption, the last especially from whole system point-of-view.

Quality monitoring and fault detection are essential parts in automated electronics manufacturing systems. Information about process conditions enables operations to improve quality and increase throughput. This report presents a general quality monitoring framework and method for a manufacturing system. Proposed monitoring approach is an integration of model-based methods with systematically collected expert knowledge and data. A model bank is constructed to reproduce behaviour of the normal and fault states. The data driven normal condition model contains linguistic equation — non-linear scaling method for model variables, and a recursive gradient algorithm. Fuzzy reasoning and basic statistical methods are combined to identify changes in normal model residuals. Fault models are fuzzy rules for detecting abnormalities in selected time series signal. Analysed model outputs are then applied to monitoring task. Principles of the monitoring method are briefly discussed and demonstrated with a simulation example. Modelling results indicate that the proposed method can handle noise in simulation data. Generalisation ability of the normal model was also notified. Based on simulations, presented monitoring approach was verified to have potential features to be implemented as a real time application. Most smokers begin smoking in adolescence. It is less well known how young people quit smoking and the factors that are associated with this process. A 15-year follow-up study on the North Karelia Youth Project has made it possible to assess these factors using a longitudinal study design. The project began in 1978 with students in Grade 7 of junior high school (age 13 years) and concluded in 1980 when the students reached Grade 9 (age 15 years). The follow-up study included four additional surveys. The present analyses are based on the data collected at ages 15, 21 and 28. The original sample comprised 903 students and the response rate of the last survey was 71%. A quarter (26%) of daily smokers and about half (46%) of occasional smokers at age of 15 had quit by the age of 28. The cessation rate was higher among females than males (P = 0.006). The cessation rate was higher among married (P = 0.015), employed (P = 0.01) and white-collar workers (P = 0.006). Cessation was less prevalent among those who had friends (P < 0.001) and family (P = 0.012) members who smoked. The cessation rate was lower among those who consumed fatty milk (P = 0.050), had less leisure-time physical activity (P = 0.032) and consumed more alcohol (P < 0.001). One-third of all teenage smokers stop smoking before the age of 28, averaging a 2.3% annual decline. Cessation is greater among occasional than daily smokers and greater overall among females.

Two types of non-smoking competition have been organized for young people in Finland. The first, the ‘Smoke-free class competition’, has been organized annually since the school year 1989–90. The aim is to prevent the onset of smoking among pupils aged 13–14. Each class decides as a group if it want to be a smoke-free class for the next half year, from 1 October to 31 March. The classes in which all of the pupils refrain from smoking for six months can participate in a lottery with financial prizes. The two main prizes represent about US$ 2000 each. At the end of the period, every smoke-free class receives a diploma.
