The management of book preservation, back volumes, and other publications within a library predominantly falls under the responsibility of library staff. The application of IoT technology in this context lacks a systematic approach to monitoring and controlling hygrothermal factors. Presently, IoT utilization is confined to a passive mode of monitoring, recording, and logging. This concise study aims to strategize and recommend the optimal utilization of IoT platforms, transitioning from a passive observational mode to a more proactive and autonomous operational mode. A qualitative methodology was employed to devise and execute the integration of IoT technology, focusing on communication through the LoRa platform and data sharing via the Wi-Fi network. Upon thorough examination of the integrated IoT platform, opportunities for implementation and enhancement become apparent. Through meticulous analysis and execution of the planned IoT platform with a scope of improvement by IIoT and battery-free sensors, a viable solution is identified, and a comprehensive evaluation of its attributes is performed. Libraries often face biodeterioration caused by various biological agents, particularly fungi and insects, which harm their collections. The beetle Gastrallus pubens Fairmaire 1875 (Coleoptera: Ptinidae), once infrequently documented within European libraries, is recently emerging as a significant menace to the preservation of rare books. In this study, a G. pubens infestation occurring in an historical library hosting a unique collection of rare books dating between the sixteenth and eighteenth century is described. The observations highlighted a serious attack as many of the books showed damages with deep galleries burrowed by larval activity and holes determined by the emergence of adults. In this work we provide illustrations for the identification of adult G. pubens adults’ and further observations on the morphology of this species. High-resolution photographs in this study complement detailed morphological descriptions, aiding in accurate species identification and can serve as a practical tool for researchers, curators, and conservators. Finally, we discuss the implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) procedures, recommended to the library curator, aimed at controlling biotic infestations to mitigate G. pubens damage. In the restoration of ancient Chinese books, handmade starch paste serves as a paper adhesive, distinguished from traditional starch paste preparation methods. It involves special processes such as starch washing and aging, relying entirely on the artisanal expertise throughout the entire process. The study recreates the process of making handmade starch paste for the restoration of traditional ancient books and investigates the effects of aging time on the apparent viscosity, rheological properties, and adhesive performance of the paste. The results indicate that during aging, the pH of the starch paste decreases significantly, but it has a minimal impact on its apparent viscosity, rheological properties, and paper softness. However, it notably enhances the adhesive performance, with the optimal results observed after 3 days of aging. This is attributed to the decrease in residual protein content in the starch, as well as the significant improvement in swelling power and solubility of the starch. The results of infrared spectroscopy and XRD testing reveal that there are no significant changes in the molecular and crystalline structures of starch during the aging process. The acidic environment produced by starch fermentation promotes protein hydrolysis, emerging as the primary reason for the improved adhesive performance of the paste. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Paper relics, as carrieres of historical civilization's records and inheritance, could be severely acidic and brittle over time. In this study, the multi-functional dispersion of nanometer magnesium oxide (MgO) carried by 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane-modified bacterial cellulose (KH550-BC) was applied in the impregnation process to repair aged paper, aiming at solving the key problems of anti-acid and strength recovery in the protection of ancient books. The KH550-BC/MgO treatment demonstrated enhanced functional efficacy in repairing aged paper, attributed to the homogeneous and stable distribution of MgO within the nanofibers of BC networks, with minimal impact on the paper's wettability and color. Furthermore, the treatment facilitated the formation of adequate alkali reserves and hydrogen bonding, resulting in superior anti-aging properties in the treated paper during prolonged preservation. Even after 30 days of hygrothermal aging tests, the paper repaired by KH550-BC/MgO was still in a gently alkaline environment (pH was about 7.56), alongside a 32.18% elevation compared to the untreated paper regarding the tear index. Fungal and bacterial bioaerosols have the potential to induce biodeterioration in books and archival materials stored within libraries through their metabolic processes. The progression of these processes is dependent on microclimatic factors, including relative humidity and temperature. At the national level, research on biodeterioration in libraries and investigations into bioaerosols in indoor environments have been limited. These topics are of great significance as they have an impact on both public health and book preservation. This study aims to determine the microbial load within the indoor air of the library situated on the campus of Universidad Militar Nueva Granada in Cajicá, Colombia. Simultaneously, it seeks to investigate the microclimatic conditions of this environment. We used a MAS-100 Eco air sampler with an airflow rate of 100 L/min for a duration of 2.5 minutes. Nutrient agar and rose Bengal were employed as culture media. The samples were incubated for 8 days, and colony counting was performed on Petri dishes. For fungal identification, we used lactophenol blue staining, and Gram staining was employed for bacterial classification. Microclimatic conditions were continuously monitored using a data logger equipped with a USB connection. The results revealed microbial loads ranging from 220 to 921 CFU/m³, with temperatures fluctuating between 18.2 and 18.6°C, and relative humidity levels within the range of 60.8% to 64.7%. The identification of fungal genera, including Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Cladosporium, as well as both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, was successfully achieved. An interesting observation emerged, indicating a corresponding increase in the concentration of fungal aerosols as relative humidity levels rose. Introduction: Open book injuries are challenging injuries that oftentimes require surgical treatment. Currently, treatment is performed with symphyseal plating requiring extensive surgery and entirely limiting physiological movement of the symphyseal joint, frequently resulting in implant failure. Therefore, we investigated the biomechanical properties of a minimally invasive tape suture construct (modified SpeedBridge™) as an alternative stabilization technique for the treatment of open book injuries in human cadaver pelvic rings. Materials and Methods: The symphysis of 9 human cadaver pelvises was dissected and dilated to 3 cm creating an open book injury. Next, the two osteosynthesis methods (plating, modified SpeedBridge™) were applied. All specimens then underwent cyclic horizontal and vertical loading, simulating biomechanical forces while sitting, standing and walking. For statistical analysis, 3D dislocation (mm) was calculated. Results: Total displacement (mm) of the pubic symphysis displayed the following means and standard deviations: native group 1.34 ± 0.62 mm, open book group 3.01 ± 1.26 mm, tape group 1.94 ± 0.59 mm and plate group 1.37 ± 0.41 mm. Comparison between native and open book (p = 0.029), open book and plate (p = 0.004), open book and tape (p = 0.031), as well as tape and plate group (p = 0.002) showed significant differences. No significant differences were found when comparing the native and tape (p = 0.059), as well as the native and plate (p = 0.999) group. Conclusion: While both osteosynthesis techniques sufficiently stabilized the injury, symphyseal plating displayed the highest rigidity. The modified SpeedBridge™ as a tape suture construct provided statistically sufficient biomechanical stability while maintaining symphyseal micro mobility, consequently allowing ligamental healing of the injured joint without iatrogenic arthrodesis. This transformative autoethnography focuses on the authors’ learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as a result of their participation in university diversity-related book clubs and subsequent extensive dialogue with one another. The paper features three implementation vignettes where the authors engage in critical self-reflection and self-critique as they (re)consider ways to improve their educational practice as it pertains to DEI. Monitoring the gas composition in library environments is crucial for the preservation of ancient books. In this study, TiO2 NTs/CNTs composites were synthesized via a hydrothermal method and utilized as nano-gas sensors for NO2 detection. The surface morphology and element composition of the samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Additionally, the gas sensitivity of the prepared TiO2 nanocomposites was evaluated at different temperatures, both with and without ultraviolet light irradiation. The results demonstrate that the synthesized TiO2 NTs/CNTs samples exhibit a large specific surface area due to their titanium dioxide nanotubes (TiO2 NTs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) composition. Moreover, these samples display excellent gas sensitivity under ultraviolet light irradiation at temperatures of 120 °C. Compared to uncomposited and non-ultraviolet light irradiated samples, the sensor response rate is significantly improved, enabling effective monitoring of NO2 gas in library environments conducive to preserving ancient books. This article provides the first account and analysis of the publication of Hannah Wolley (c.1622-c.in or after 1674), the prolific but understudied author of five different domestic manuals between 1661 and 1674. The publication of The Ladies Directory in 1661 and its reprinting in 1662 provide the context for an exploration of the opportunities and challenges facing a first-time female 'Authress' (as Wolley was described on the title page) being published. As a non-elite but educated working woman, Wolley did not fit the mould of her female published precursors, and nor did the format and contents of her texts. This study shows how Wolley and other stakeholders in the production of The Ladies Directory navigated a challenging period in English book production, through conceiving the book as the first instalment in a series of domestic texts that could be printed separately but bound together; and argues that she used print as but one strand of her commercial 'offer', alongside private tuition and selling readymade medications. Starch paste is an adhesive that is used in the field of book and paper conservation. This adhesive has a very short shelf life, and for this reason, it must be prepared in small quantities. Also, preparing starch paste for use in protection is a time-consuming process. This research was done with the aim of facilitating the use of starch paste in the conservation of paper works, long-term storage of starch pastes without fungicidal additives and increasing its durability in the long term without changing the quality of the adhesive. The application of fresh starch pastes and activated starch film increased the pH of the samples coated by these adhesives compared to the control samples without adhesive. The samples covered by the activated starch film after moist-heat aging and light aging had the highest pH compared to other samples. The samples coated with fresh starch paste showed the lowest amount of color changes (ΔE*) after moist-heat aging and light aging, respectively. Application of fresh starch paste and activated starch film increased the tensile strength of the samples. After aging, the tensile strength of the samples decreased compared to the previous stage, but the tensile strength of the samples covered by these adhesives increased compared to the control samples without adhesives. The adhesion of the samples decreased after aging. The samples coated with fresh starch paste had the highest adhesion after light aging. Indoor air quality (IAQ) has attracted a lot of attention due to its complexity and direct effect on human health. Indoor settings in libraries entail various volatile organic compounds (VOCs) linked to the aging and degradation of print material. The effect of the storage environment on paper life expectancy was investigated by targeting the VOC emissions of old and new books using headspace solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS) analysis. "Sniffing" of book degradation markers showed both ubiquitously and infrequently occurring VOCs. Old book "degradomics" revealed mostly alcohols (57%) and ethers (12%), whereas new books resulted mainly to ketones (40%) and aldehydes (21%). Chemometric processing of the results with principal component analysis (PCA) corroborated our initial observations and was able to discriminate the books by age into three groups: very old books (from the 1600 s to mid-1700), old books (from the 1800s to the early 1900s), and modern books (from the mid-twentieth century onwards) based on their gaseous markers. The measured mean concentrations of selected VOCs (acetic acid, furfural, benzene, and toluene) were below the respective guidelines set for similar places (i.e. museums). The applied non-invasive, green analytical methodology (HS-SPME-GC/MS) can assist librarians, stakeholders, and researchers to evaluate the IAQ, as well as the degree of degradation, and take the appropriate measures for book restoration and monitoring protocols. In traditional Chinese conservation of historic books and mounted scrolls, the preparation and use of paste is an important process step. The viscosity of the paste is a key factor to consider, taking into account various parameters such as conservation technique, paper condition, or paper thickness. This study aims to determine the viscosity variation of diluted and thick pastes used in traditional Chinese conservation techniques with a rotary viscometer. During conservation treatment, as the number of restored leaves increases, the viscosity of diluted paste tends to increase significantly. The study highlights the different requirements for viscosity depending on its use either in Chinese books or Chinese hanging scrolls and emphasizes the importance of monitoring and adjusting paste viscosity during the conservation process. The use of a rotary viscometer, along with the traditional finger test method, is a significant step forward in improving the accuracy and efficiency of determining paste viscosity. Purpose: Science policy and practice for open access (OA) books is a rapidly evolving area in the scholarly domain. However, there is much that remains unknown, including how many OA books there are and to what degree they are included in preservation coverage. The purpose of this study is to contribute towards filling this knowledge gap in order to advance both research and practice in the domain of OA books. Design/methodology/approach: This study utilized open bibliometric data sources to aggregate a harmonized dataset of metadata records for OA books (data sources: the Directory of Open Access Books, OpenAIRE, OpenAlex, Scielo Books, The Lens, and WorldCat). This dataset was then cross-matched based on unique identifiers and book titles to openly available content listings of trusted preservation services (data sources: Cariniana Network, CLOCKSS, Global LOCKSS Network, and Portico). The web domains of the OA books were determined by querying the web addresses or digital object identifiers provided in the metadata of the bibliometric database entries. Findings: In total, 396,995 unique records were identified from the OA book bibliometric sources, of which 19% were found to be included in at least one of the preservation services. The results suggest reason for concern for the long tail of OA books distributed at thousands of different web domains as these include volatile cloud storage or sometimes no longer contained the files at all. Research limitations/implications: Data quality issues, varying definitions of OA across services and inconsistent implementation of unique identifiers were discovered as key challenges. The study includes recommendations for publishers, libraries, data providers and preservation services for improving monitoring and practices for OA book preservation. There is trauma in how Indigenous knowledge collections in libraries are managed. This paper seeks to understand the tikanga Māori context of Indigenous knowledges management in library collection policies. A review of selected library policies from five major AotearoaNew Zealand libraries regarding collection development, tikanga Māori integration and specifically Māori collection content will be explored using a modified Mead's Tikanga Test (of 2003). From this analysis will be inferred the ways in which the various library policies negate or affirm tikanga Māori. This will be followed by a brief introduction to the model Ngā Matatiki Mātauranga for culturally safe management of Indigenous collections to be integrated into collection policies. This paper will draw from a Māori perspective, in Aotearoa-New Zealand. The testing of library policies from five major libraries will drive the findings to represent the state of Indigenous collection policy in Aotearoa and how best for Māori to distinguish our futures in libraries. Historic books are important vehicles for understanding the evolution of human civilisation. To preserve these precious historical materials, unremitting research and exploration has been carried out for thousands of years. The introduction of new concepts and technologies has led conservators to uphold different perspectives on traditional techniques and skills. "Book beating" (chuishu 捶书) is a very special, necessary step in the traditional conservation of ancient Chinese books. However, there is a lack of consensus about how the beating technique affects the structure and long-term stability of paper. In this article, we briefly introduce the origins and basic steps of book beating as well as the precautions required, taking into account the perspectives of conservators on book beating. We then discuss the similarities and differences between book beating and "beat paper". Analysing a number of characteristics such as the beating strength, paper thickness, and tensile strength of the paper with or without the beating we will explore the pros and cons of book beating. Red Book Challenge Conservation Education Madagascar is a small‐scale, arts‐based, conservation education initiative founded in 2012 by two Lemur catta researchers working in the Berenty Reserve and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2022. The target demographic is children and adults living in Southern Madagascar. The Red Book Challenge program initially consisted of providing supplementary conservation education through classroom visits at the elementary schools in Berenty village. The school children created small conservation booklets with red covers, giving the project its name. Today, the program has expanded to include the village of Besakoa Ambany and the city of Fort Dauphin, while remaining a small‐scale program. To date, the Red Book Challenge has completed seven outreach projects aimed at generating goodwill in the local community, community development, and conservation education. This retrospective analysis functions as a formative evaluation of the feasibility of future projects. This paper will focus on four projects that fall under the category of conservation education: (1) Using films to promote conservation topics (2) field trips to observe lemurs (3) a Malagasy‐run conservation club, and (4) a coloring book. These projects have been funded through small grants from the International Conservation Fund of Canada, and private donations. This paper includes the Red Book Challenge's history, results from the participant surveys, and the successes and failures in each stage of our work. Six shifts in thinking occurred: (1) use of Malagasy talent to create educational conservation films (2) more formal assessment before and after field trips (3) improvement of recruitment, training and supervision of staff to keep the conservation club self‐sufficient (4) enlistment of Malagasy illustrators and adaptation of environmentally friendly printing practices for the coloring books (5) disseminate study outcomes to international community though publication (6) reframe the program from spare‐time volunteer work to full‐time research work. Research Highlights: Positive and negative results of our operation of a small primate conservation education program as secondary to our academic research are reported with the aim of encouraging primatologists to thoughtfully take up conservation education or make their current programs a priority.Young people who participated in a field trip to see lemurs for the first time had their misconceptions about lemurs eliminated by the experience.Of 70 school children in three locations in Southern Madagascar who received our coloring books, 84% stated that they were very likely to share what they had learned from the book with their family. The peatland conservation model is generally developed based on the community. A new education-based conservation model was developed through temporary activities through seminars, workshops or non-formal learning. The aim of this research is to develop and validation a peatland conservation model through interdisciplinary science learning that connects universities, schools and communities in peatland conservation activities. The development of a peatland conservation model went through third stages following interdisciplinary research patterns. Validation was determined by content and empirical validation. The peatland conservation model consisted of three interrelated dimensions in peatland conservation, namely universities, schools and communities. The model was equipped with implementation tools in the field in the form of science learning tools. The form of a peatland conservation model book, teaching practice materials, an environmental literacy questionnaire, and an interdisciplinary thinking performance rubric were developed in this study. The validated aspects included theory, assumptions, and conceptual model representations with the Aiken score was 0.88 as a valid category and the ICC value of 0.457 showed that the reliability was not good. Empirical validation showed that the dimensions of the university, school and community constructs had internal consistency reliability and validity. The relation between dimension that universities had an influence on schools and society, and schools have an influence on society. The peatland conservation model was equipped with practical teaching learning tools that directly connected universities and schools. However, this model was also suitable for non-educational natural sciences courses or pure natural sciences to form interdisciplinary thinking skills and environmental literacy. Ancient Chinese books are of great significance to historical research and cultural inheritance. Unfortunately, many of these books have been damaged and corroded in the process of long-term transmission. The restoration by digital preservation of ancient books is a new method of conservation. Traditional character restoration methods ensure the visual consistency of character images through character features and the pixels around the damaged area. However, reconstructing characters often causes errors, especially when there is large damage in critical locations. Inspired by human's imitation writing behavior, a two-branch structure character restoration network EA-GAN (Example Attention Generative Adversarial Network) is proposed, which is based on a generative adversarial network and fuses reference examples. By referring to the features of the example character, the damaged character can be restored accurately even when the damaged area is large. EA-GAN first uses two branches to extract the features of the damaged and example characters. Then, the damaged character is restored according to neighborhood information and features of the example character in different scales during the up-sampling stage. To solve problems when the example and damaged character features are not aligned and the convolution receptive field is too small, an Example Attention block is proposed to assist in restoration. Qualitative and quantitative analysis experiments are carried out on a self-built dataset MSACCSD and real scene pictures. Compared with current inpainting networks, EA-GAN can get the correct text structure through the guidance of the additional example in the Example Attention block. The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and the structural similarity (SSIM) value increased by 9.82% and 1.82% respectively. The learned perceptual image patch similarity (LPIPS) value calculated by Visual Geometry Group (VGG) network and AlexNet decreased by 35.04% and 16.36% respectively. Our method obtained better results than the current inpainting methods. The present research of Chinese medical history lack detailed discussions on Chinese medicine philology of the elderly and the various sorting of related literature of physiology and diseases both at home and abroad. Based on previous literature, the article aims to introduce the publishing trend of medical books on health cultivation and prolonging life on since modern times, generally describe its significance, and initially analyze the contents related to health cultivation for the elderly. The article finds out that after the scientific concepts were imported into China in large quantities from the beginning of the 20th century, the past superstitions rose again. The sciences of nutrition, bacteriology, and physiology in such books had all verified that the road to immortality was possible. The concept of longevity at the time emphasized a concept that could be controlled by science. With the advancement of scientific research and health concepts, people believed that they could eventually achieve immortality. Wheaton's principal focus is on texts in the final two books of the eleven-book collection of Fortunatus' I Carmina i , probably published posthumously. It is to Wheaton's credit that he has provided such an interesting exposition of Fortunatus' theological writings as well as opening up many fruitful lines for further enquiry. He makes an interesting case for the degree to which Fortunatus shaped it as well, though the evidence for the reception of Fortunatus' ideas appears to be rather meagre. Starch paste serves as an adhesive in book and paper conservation; however, its short shelf life necessitates small-batch preparation. This research aims to streamline starch paste usage, enable long-term storage without fungicidal additives, and enhance adhesive durability without compromising quality. The application of fresh starch paste and activated starch film elevated the pH levels in the coated samples compared to the adhesive-free controls. Following moist heat and light aging, the samples with activated starch films exhibited the highest pH. Fresh starch paste yielded minimal color changes (∆E) after aging, whereas the activated starch film displayed the lowest ∆ E. Tensile strength increased with the application of fresh starch paste and activated starch film. Although the tensile strength decreased after aging, the samples with adhesives exhibited higher values than the adhesive-free controls. The adhesion levels decreased after aging, with fresh starch paste displaying the highest adhesion after light aging and activated starch film demonstrating the highest adhesion after moist heat aging. Background: Antenatal care is one of the components of the maternal and child continuum of care. Timely booking ANC during pregnancy is of utmost importance to guarantee the best possible health outcomes for women and children. Inappropriate timing of the first ANC booking is associated with poor pregnancy outcomes, including perinatal death, stillbirth, and early neonatal death. According to WHO focused ANC recommendation, every mother should start booking ANC within the first 12 weeks of gestational age. However, in developing countries, including Ethiopia, many pregnant mothers were not booking ANC at the recommended time. Thus, this study aims to assess the time to first ANC booking and its determinants in Ethiopia. Methods: A survival analysis was conducted to determine time to first ANC booking among 3917 weighted study subjects. The data were extracted from EDHS 2019 using STATA version 17 software. A Kaplan Meier survivor curve was computed to estimate the time of first ANC booking. A Long-rank test was used to compare the difference in survival curves. Weibull Inverse Gaussian shared frailty model was used to identify significant predictors. On multivariable analysis, variables having a p-value of ≤ 0.05 are considered statistically significant. Results: The overall median survival time was four months. The significant determinant of time to first ANC booking are residence (rural [ϕ = 1.111, 95CI: 1.060, 1.164), mother educational level (primary education [ϕ = 0.945, 95CI: 0.915, 0.977], secondary and above educational [ϕ = 0.857, 95CI: 0.819, 0.896]) and wealth index (middle [0.948 (ϕ = 0.948, 95CI: 0.911, 0.986) and rich [ϕ = 0.904, 95CI: 0.865, 0.945]) Conclusion: The median time for first ANC booking is 4 month, which is higher than the WHO recommended time. The timing of the first ANC booking in Ethiopia was mainly influenced by the residence of women, mother educational level, and wealth index. It is strongly recommended to expose mothers to educational materials and other awareness-creation campaigns, as well as to support disadvantaged women, such as the uneducated, poor, and those living in rural or remote areas. Eurotium halophilicum is psychrotolerant, halophilic, and one of the most-extreme xerophiles in Earth's biosphere. We already know that this ascomycete grows close to 0 °C, at high NaCl, and—under some conditions—down to 0.651 water-activity. However, there is a paucity of information about how it achieves this extreme stress tolerance given the dynamic water regimes of the surface habitats on which it commonly occurs. Here, against the backdrop of global climate change, we investigated the biophysical interactions of E. halophilicum with its extracellular environment using samples taken from the surfaces of library books. The specific aims were to examine its morphology and extracellular environment (using scanning electron microscopy for visualisation and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry to identify chemical elements) and investigate interactions with water, ions, and minerals (including analyses of temperature and relative humidity conditions and determinations of salt deliquescence and water activity of extracellular brine). We observed crystals identified as eugsterite (Na4Ca(SO4)3·2H2O) and mirabilite (Na2SO4·10H2O) embedded within extracellular polymeric substances and provide evidence that E. halophilicum uses salt deliquescence to maintain conditions consistent with its water-activity window for growth. In addition, it utilizes a covering of hair-like microfilaments that likely absorb water and maintain a layer of humid air adjacent to the hyphae. We believe that, along with compatible solutes used for osmotic adjustment, these adaptations allow the fungus to maintain hydration in both space and time. We discuss these findings in relation to the conservation of books and other artifacts within the built environment, spoilage of foods and feeds, the ecology of E. halophilicum in natural habitats, and the current episode of climate change. Cellulose-based handmade paper records a substantial amount of historical data and promotes human civilization. Due to the complexity of its structure and external factors, the deterioration of paper in the restoration of ancient books cannot be completely stopped. Nonetheless, the lack of microstructure analysis of handmade paper limits the understanding of its aging mechanism and storage life-span. Herein, CP/MAS 13C NMR method was used to estimate the cellulose types, crystallinity, average lateral fibril dimension (LFD), and the average lateral fibril aggregate dimension (LFAD), relying on integrated spectral fitting from C1, C4, and C6 regions, respectively. Consequently, cellulose Iβ crystals were predominant in all handmade paper samples. Based on the results of C4 and C6 regions by peak separation method, bast paper (Kaihua paper and Yingchun paper) demonstrated a higher crystallinity than bamboo paper (Yuanshu paper). Additional analysis of the C4 data revealed that bast papers exhibit larger cellulose microfibrils, and their LFDs and LFADs were greater than bamboo papers. Moreover, external stress of Wiley milling reduced the LFAD from the original 9 elementary fibrils to 4 elementary fibrils with unchanged LFDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Four recent books, all by noted economists, expose major problems with the economic system and, consequently, with the macromarketing system. The objective of each book is to expose how the economy really functions, much as Victor Lebow did 50 years ago in his " Free Enterprise": The Opium of the American People (1972). Two of the books argue for a restoration of the market system of myth and lore, one for institutional changes, and the fourth for moving beyond the growth economy to alternatives. The commentary ends by noting that each book argues that little can be done about the economy until we face the facts and address the malfunctioning political system, too. Our American political system, much like the economic system, is also broken. To fix either, we must begin with understanding how each really work and then make necessary changes. Background and Aims: There is widespread variation in venous leg ulcer (VLU) wound care contributing to inadequate service provision resulting in poor outcomes to patients. Little has been published on the perspectives of where treatments should be carried out. The aim of the study was to quantify respondents' preferences for the preferred place of treatment for VLU. Methods: A UK general population sample was interviewed to elicit preferences for clinic or home care treatment using the willingness to pay elicitation method. Participants were presented with two vignettes describing clinic or home care of VLU, and were asked to select the treatment process that they preferred and provide a detailed explanation for selecting that choice. Then they were asked to state their maximum hypothetical amounts that they were willing to pay for the treatment processes. Results: One hundred fifty‐four participants completed the interviews. Respondents were willing to pay £498.96 to receive VLU treatment at a clinic and £505.60 to receive care at home. This difference between the clinic compared to home care was not statistically significant. Advantages of clinic care include being able to book an appointment allowing participants to plan events around the booking and for home care the convenience for those with impaired mobility who may have difficulty traveling. Conclusions: The results show that respondents placed an equal valuation on the place of treatment suggesting no strong preference for either home or clinic care. However, qualitative findings emphasized that impaired mobility may be a barrier to accessing VLU services for some therefore, individuals should be given the choice to select their preferred setting to receive treatment where possible. On March 29, 2022, the Library of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, the National Széchényi Library and the Social Sciences Section of the Hungarian Librarians’ Association jointly organized the 7th edition of the Special Libraries’ Enumeration. As last year, the conference was held online due to the pandemic, and more than 200 participants attended the 13 presentations. As in previous successful events, this year’s event presented the situation and results of individual special libraries and types of special libraries, and gave participants an insight into current issues and new national and international developments and trends in the field of special libraries. The programme was structured around five main topics: book restoration, the management of historic libraries, statistics, digitisation/Artificial Intelligence and research data management.
