High-molecular-weight linear polymers (HMWLPs) have earned the name "drag-reducing polymers" because of their ability to reduce drag in turbulent flows. Recently, these polymers have become popular in bioengineering applications. This study investigated whether the addition of HMWLP in a venoarterial extracorporeal circulation (ECC) model could improve microvascular perfusion and oxygenation. Golden Syrian hamsters were instrumented with a dorsal skinfold window chamber and subjected to ECC using a circuit comprised of a peristaltic pump and a bubble trap. The circuit was primed with lactated Ringer solution (LR) containing either 5 ppm of polyethylene glycol (PEG) with a low molecular weight of 500 kDa (PEG500k) or 5 ppm of PEG with a high molecular weight of 3,500 kDa (PEG3500k). After 90 min of ECC at 15% of the animal's cardiac output, the results showed that the addition of PEG3500k to LR improved microvascular blood flow in arterioles and venules acutely (2 h after ECC), whereas functional capillary density showed improvement up to 24 h after ECC. Similarly, PEG3500k improved venular hemoglobin O2 saturation on the following day after ECC. The serum and various excised organs all displayed reduced inflammation with the addition of PEG3500k, and several of these organs also had a reduction in markers of damage with the HMWLPs compared to LR alone. These promising results suggest that the addition of small amounts of PEG3500k can help mitigate the loss of microcirculatory function and reduce the inflammatory response from ECC procedures.NEW & NOTEWORTHY High-molecular-weight linear polymers have gained traction in bioengineering applications. Porous polyethylene glycol terephthalate (PET) film is a kind of mesopore structure template with pore size ranging from nanometer to micrometer by chemical etching after irradiation of heavy ions. The etching rate is an important factor affecting the pore morphology and quality of the membrane. In this paper, four stacked PET film were irradiated with 140 MeV [sup.32]S ions at room temperature and vacuum. During chemical etching of irradiated samples, the path etching rate [V.sub.t] was determined by conduction method, and the bulk etching rate [V.sub.b] was determined by weighing method. The relationship between etching temperature, concentration, sensitization time, and etching rate was studied. The results show that the etching rate is exponentially correlated with the etching temperature, and increases linearly with the increase of the etching solution concentration. When the concentration of NaOH is 3 mol [L.sup.-1] and the etching temperature is 75[degrees]C, the formation of cylindrical micropores is the most favorable. The pore size of porous PET film can be adjusted, and the relationship between pore size and etching time is d(nm) = 15nm + 0.24t. This is of great significance for the preparation of nanowires with uniform size and stable properties. In this study, a wound-healing membrane was fabricated based on carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) containing curcumin (Cur) and bromelain (Br). Citric acid (CA) was used as a cross-linking agent. This membrane showed an ideal degree of swelling, which was significantly dependent on the concentration and duration of cross-linked CA. The chemical characterization showed the CA cross-linker mechanism was more associated with chemical reactions with CMC carboxyl groups, and PEG hydroxyl groups played an important role in forming a hybrid polymer network. It greatly enhanced mechanical and adhesive properties, so the stress strength was improved from 29.4 to 38.52 Mpa. The hydrophilicity of the membrane surface according to the water contact angle assay showed the membrane surface is suitable for adhesion, growth, migration, and proliferation of skin cells. The drug delivery assay demonstrated that the Br and Cur were released during 48 h, but the Br followed the burst release in comparison with Cur. Antibacterial properties showed that CMC/PEG-Cur/Br have ideal antibacterial properties for preventing the growth of bacteria. In summary, the engineered CMC/PEG containing Cur/Br films with desired cell viability properties and antibacterial activity can potentially improve and accelerate skin regeneration for chronic wound healing. To examine the conventional idea that the gauche conformation of the OCCO dihedral angle promotes the dissolution of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in water through strong hydration, the thermodynamic properties of liquid mixtures of PEG and water were studied by means of polymer reference interaction site model (PRISM) theory. The intramolecular correlation functions required as input for PRISM theory were calculated by the generator matrix method, accompanied by changes in the distribution of dihedral angles. In the infinite dilution limit, the increased probability of gauche conformation of the OCCO dihedral angles stabilizes the hydration of PEG through enhanced hydrogen bonding between the ether oxygen of PEG and water. The mixing Gibbs energies of the liquid mixtures were also calculated in the whole concentration range based on the Gibbs–Duhem equation, as per our recent proposal. A liquid–liquid phase separation was observed when all the dihedral angles of PEG were in the trans conformation; for the liquid mixture to be miscible in the whole concentration range, the introduction of the OCCO gauche conformation was found to be indispensable. Compared with the composite coating with a single structure, the coating with a multilayer structure may possess better hydrogen barrier performance. Graphene oxide (GO) was chemically modified using polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE) to obtain modified graphene oxide (mGO). The introduction of epoxy groups in mGO would participate in the crosslinking reaction between the epoxy resin (EP) emulsion and the curing agent to improve the dispersion and adhesion of the middle layer in the sandwich structure. An EP/mGO/EP composite coating with a sandwich structure was prepared. The research found that the tightly stacked mGO middle layer in the sandwich structure played a crucial role. The average adhesion of the multilayer composite coating was about 9 MPa. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of layer 2-mGO composite coating showed that its modulus was up to 109 Ω cm2. The permeation current density ip and hydrogen content remained at low values of 1.38 μA and 1.34 ppm, respectively. A semi-synthetic camptothecin derivative known as irinotecan hydrochloride is frequently used to treat colorectal cancer, including colorectal adenocarcinoma and lung cancers involving small cells. Irinotecan has a very short half-life; therefore, continuous infusions are required to keep the drug's blood levels at therapeutic levels, which could produce cumulative toxicities. Effective delivery techniques, including liposomes, have been developed to address these shortcomings. In this study, a continuous supercritical fluid approach dubbed Expansion Supercritical Fluid into an aqueous solution, in which the pressure decreases rapidly but remains over the critical pressure, is proposed to manufacture polyethylene glycolylated (PEGylated) liposomes carrying irinotecan hydrochloride. To accomplish this, PEGylated liposomes were created using a Box–Behnken design, and the operating parameters (flow rate, temperature, and pressure drop) were optimized. Encapsulation efficiency, mean size, and prepared liposome count were 94.6%, 55 nm, and 758 under ideal circumstances. Additionally, the stability of the PEGylated liposome was investigated during 8 weeks, and also PEGylated liposome-loaded irinotecan release profile was compared to conventional liposomes and free irinotecan, and a constant drug release was seen after the first burst release from liposomes. The application properties such as foam property, electrolyte tolerance, antibacterial activity and antistatic performance of the mixed systems of a novel Gemini quaternary ammonium salt with quadra‐cationic sites (TC‐GS) and sodium fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether carboxylate (AE9CNa) at various molar fraction of TC‐GS (αTC‐GS), were investigated systematically. Results show that TC‐GS/AE9CNa mixed systems with different ratios form a homogeneous and transparent solution, which exhibits excellent foam stability and antibacterial activity. The foam volume of the mixed system remains nearly constant from 400 s to 1000 s, and even when TC‐GS is 10 mg/L in the mixed systems, the antibacterial rates against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) for 2 min. are all exceeded 99 %. The mixed systems of TC‐GS/AE9CNa at various αTC‐GS also demonstrate the superior electrolyte tolerance, their maximum tolerance of NaCl, CaCl2 and MgCl2 is severally beyond 270 g/L, 180 g/L and 180 g/L. In addition, both TC‐GS solution and the mixed systems have good antistatic properties, which can reduce the surface resistance of polyester fabric to ≤1010 Ω. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is robust evidence to indicate a strong correlation between the bowel preparation status and adenoma detection rate (ADR), which directly impacts the incidence and mortality rate of postcolonoscopy colorectal cancer. Therefore, improving bowel preparation has been of increasing interest. In Japan, commercially available bowel preparation agents include polyethylene glycol, oral sodium sulfate, sodium picosulfate‐magnesium citrate, magnesium citrate, and oral sodium phosphate; each has its own strengths and limitations. The timing of administration can also influence the efficacy of bowel preparation and patient tolerability. Furthermore, meta‐analyses have suggested predictive factors for inadequate bowel preparation. A detailed understanding of these factors could contribute to reducing the need for repeat colonoscopy within 1 year, as recommended for patients with inadequate bowel preparation. Recent advancements, such as oral sulfate tablets, present promising alternatives with higher patient satisfaction and ADRs than traditional methods. Achieving optimal bowel preparation requires enhanced instructions, individualized regimens, and a comprehensive understanding of patient backgrounds and the characteristics of various bowel preparation agents. A critical challenge in solid polymer lithium batteries is developing a polymer matrix that can harmonize ionic transportation, electrochemical stability, and mechanical durability. We introduce a novel polymer matrix design by deciphering the structure‐function relationships of polymer side chains. Leveraging the molecular orbital‐polarity‐spatial freedom design strategy, a high ion‐conductive hyperelastic ternary copolymer electrolyte (CPE) is synthesized, incorporating three functionalized side chains of poly‐2,2,2‐Trifluoroethyl acrylate (PTFEA), poly(vinylene carbonate) (PVC), and polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether acrylate (PEGMEA). It is revealed that fluorine‐rich side chain (PTFEA) contributes to improved stability and interfacial compatibility; the highly polar side chain (PVC) facilitates the efficient dissociation and migration of ions; the flexible side chain (PEGMEA) with high spatial freedom promotes segmental motion and interchain ion exchanges. The resulting CPE demonstrates an ionic conductivity of 2.19×10−3 S cm−1 (30 °C), oxidation resistance voltage of 4.97 V, excellent elasticity (2700 %), and non‐flammability. The outer elastic CPE and the inner organic–inorganic hybrid SEI buffer intense volume fluctuation and enable uniform Li+ deposition. As a result, symmetric Li cells realize a high CCD of 2.55 mA cm−2 and the CPE‐based Li||NCM811 full cell exhibits a high‐capacity retention (~90 %, 0.5 C) after 200 cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Elemental sulfur has shown to be a promising alternative feedstock for development of novel polymeric materials with high sulfur content. However, the utilization of inverse vulcanized polymers is restricted by the limitation of functional comonomers suitable for an inverse vulcanization. Control over properties and structure of inverse vulcanized polymers still poses a challenge to current research due to the dynamic nature of sulfur‐sulfur bonds and high temperature of inverse vulcanization reactions. In here, we report for the first time the inverse vulcanization of norbornenyl pentafluorophenyl ester (NB‐PFPE), allowing for post‐modification of inverse vulcanized polymers via amidation of reactive PFP esters to yield high sulfur content polymers under mild conditions. Amidation of the precursor material with three functional primary amines (α‐amino‐ω‐methoxy polyethylene glycol, aminopropyl trimethoxy silane, allylamine) was investigated. The resulting materials were applicable as sulfur containing poly(ethylene glycol) nanoparticles in aqueous environment. Cross‐linked mercury adsorbents, sulfur surface coatings, and high‐sulfur content networks with predictable thermal properties were achievable using aminopropyl trimethoxy silane and allylamine for post‐polymerization modification, respectively. With the broad range of different amines available and applicable for post‐polymerization modification, the versatility of poly(sulfur‐random‐NB‐PFPE) as a platform precursor polymer for novel specialized sulfur containing materials was showcased. Background: Drought constitutes a major abiotic stress factor adversely affecting plant growth and productivity. Plant-microbe symbiotic associations have evolved regulatory mechanisms to adapt to environmental stress conditions. However, the interactive effects of different fungi on host growth and stress tolerance under drought conditions remain unclear. Objective: This study explored the effects of varying polyethylene glycol (PEG6000) concentrations (0%, 15%, 25%, and 35%) on the growth and physiological responses of two ectomycorrhizal fungi (Suillus granulatus (Sg) and Pisolithus tinctorius (Pt)) and two dark septate endophytes (Pleotrichocladium opacum (Po) and Pseudopyrenochaeta sp. (Ps)) isolated from the root system of Pinus tabuliformis. Specifically, the study aimed to evaluate six inoculation treatments, including no inoculation (CK), single inoculations with Sg, Pt, Po, Ps, and a mixed inoculation (Sg: Pt : Po: Ps = 1:1:1:1), on the growth and physiological characteristics of P. tabuliformis seedlings under different water regimes: well-watered at 70% ± 5%, light drought at 50% ± 5%, and severe drought at 30% ± 5% of the maximum field water holding capacity. Results: All four fungi exhibited the capacity to cope with drought stress by enhancing antioxidant activities and regulating osmotic balance. Upon successful root colonization, they increased plant height, shoot biomass, root biomass, total biomass, and mycorrhizal growth response in P. tabuliformis seedlings. Under drought stress conditions, fungal inoculation improved seedling drought resistance by increasing superoxide dismutase and catalase activities, free proline and soluble protein contents, and promoting nitrogen and phosphorus uptake. Notably, mixed inoculation treatments significantly enhanced antioxidant capacity, osmotic adjustment, and nutrient acquisition abilities, leading to superior growth promotion effects under drought stress compared to single inoculation treatments. Conclusion: All four fungi tolerated PEG-induced drought stress, with increased antioxidant enzyme activities and osmotic adjustment substances and they promoted the growth and enhanced drought resistance of P. tabuliformis seedlings. Background: During the COVID‐19 pandemic, novel nanoparticle‐based mRNA vaccines were developed. A small number of individuals developed allergic reactions to these vaccines although the mechanisms remain undefined. Methods: To understand COVID‐19 vaccine‐mediated allergic reactions, we enrolled 19 participants who developed allergic events within 2 h of vaccination and 13 controls, nonreactors. Using standard hemolysis assays, we demonstrated that sera from allergic participants induced stronger complement activation compared to nonallergic subjects following ex vivo vaccine exposure. Results: Vaccine‐mediated complement activation correlated with anti‐polyethelyne glycol (PEG) IgG (but not IgM) levels while anti‐PEG IgE was undetectable in all subjects. Depletion of total IgG suppressed complement activation in select individuals. To investigate the effects of vaccine excipients on basophil function, we employed a validated indirect basophil activation test that stratified the allergic populations into high and low responders. Complement C3a and C5a receptor blockade in this system suppressed basophil response, providing strong evidence for complement involvement in vaccine‐mediated basophil activation. Single‐cell multiome analysis revealed differential expression of genes encoding the cytokine response and Toll‐like receptor (TLR) pathways within the monocyte compartment. Differential chromatin accessibility for IL‐13 and IL‐1B genes was found in allergic and nonallergic participants, suggesting that in vivo, epigenetic modulation of mononuclear phagocyte immunophenotypes determines their subsequent functional responsiveness, contributing to the overall physiologic manifestation of vaccine reactions. Conclusion: These findings provide insights into the mechanisms underlying allergic reactions to COVID‐19 mRNA vaccines, which may be used for future vaccine strategies in individuals with prior history of allergies or reactions and reduce vaccine hesitancy. Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are considered promising candidates for scalable and sustainable energy storage devices due to their low cost and high safety advantages. However, the practical application of AZIBs is subject to the limits of the reversibility of the Zn2+ stripping/plating, such as the growth of Zn dendrites, corrosion of Zn anode, and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we propose a solution to the issues of AZIBs by creating a versatile electrolyte via the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG). PEG additive changes the coordination environment of Zn2+ and disturbs the solvation structure of H2O, which is beneficial to alleviate the side reactions triggered by water molecules in the Zn2+ solvation structure. In addition, the Zn2+ nucleation behavior is optimized by texturing the hexagonal deposition plane and inducing the compact-grained deposition manner to resist corrosion reactions and dendrite aggravation. The solvation structure of Zn2+ is optimized to improve the reversibility of the Zn anode. As a result, improved reversibility of Zn plating/stripping on the Cu-working electrode is achieved by 20% PEG electrolyte with high Coulombic efficiency (CE) of 99.43% at 1 mA cm−2, stably cycled for 750 cycles. Furthermore, the Zn||Zn symmetrical half-cell with 20% PEG electrolyte shows stable plating/stripping overpotentials for more than 1400 h. Finally, the Zn||V2O5 full-cells exhibit excellent long cycling stability for over 180 cycles even at 1000 mA g−1 with a high reversible capacity of 168 mAh g−1. Key message: Natural transformation with R. rhizogenes enhances osmotic stress tolerance in oilseed rape through increasing osmoregulation capacity, enhancing maintenance of hydraulic integrity and total antioxidant capacity. Transformation of plants using wild strains of agrobacteria is termed natural transformation and is not covered by GMO legislation in, e.g., European Union and Japan. In this study, offspring lines of Rhizobium rhizogenes naturally transformed oilseed rape (Brassica napus), i.e., A11 and B3 (termed root-inducing (Ri) lines), were investigated for osmotic stress resilience. Under polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG) 10% (w/v)-induced osmotic stress, the Ri lines, particularly A11, had less severe leaf wilting, higher stomatal conductance (8.2 times more than WT), and a stable leaf transpiration rate (about 2.9 mmol m−2 s−1). Although the leaf relative water content and leaf water potential responded similarly to PEG treatment between the Ri lines and WT, a significant reduction of the turgid weight to dry weight ratio in A11 and B3 indicated a greater capacity of osmoregulation in the Ri lines. Moreover, the upregulation of plasma membrane intrinsic proteins genes (PIPs) in roots and downregulation of these genes in leaves of the Ri lines implied a better maintenance of hydraulic integrity in relation to the WT. Furthermore, the Ri lines had greater total antioxidant capacity (TAC) than the WT under PEG stress. Collectively, the enhanced tolerance of the Ri lines to PEG-induced osmotic stress could be attributed to the greater osmoregulation capacity, better maintenance of hydraulic integrity, and greater TAC than the WT. In addition, Ri-genes (particularly rolA and rolD) play roles in response to osmotic stress in Ri oilseed rape. In 2011, Beeler and Hoilman generalized the game of peg solitaire to arbitrary connected graphs. Since then peg solitaire and related games have been considered on many graph classes. One of the main goals is the characterization of solvable graphs. To this end, different graph operations, such as joins and Cartesian products, have been considered in the past. In this article, we continue this venue of research by investigating line graphs. Instead of playing peg solitaire on the line graph L(G) of a graph G, we introduce a related game called stick solitaire and play it on G. This game is examined on several well-known graph classes, for example complete graphs and windmills. In particular, we prove that most of them are stick-solvable. We also present a family of graphs which contains unsolvable graphs in stick solitaire. The present study is to develop and evaluate an ethosomal gel formulation of ciprofloxacin. It aims to provide a topical treatment for many bacterial infections that affect the skin. Administration of medications topically having the facility of delivering a high concentration of the drug to the skin than would be possible with systemic therapy. Topical administration of drugs is better for local action and the efficiency of the topically administered drug is increased with liposome, proliposomes and ethosomes. Recently, it was found that ethosomal carriers were phospholipid vesicular systems having relatively high concentrations of alcohol, enhances dermal and transdermal delivery of both lipophilic as well as hydrophilic molecules. Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride is a second-generation antibiotic and a BCS class II drug. Ethosomes were formulated using phospholipid, cholesterol, ethanol, polyethylene glycol and purified water by cold method. Ethosomes were evaluated for vesicle size, shape, optical microscopy, entrapment efficiency and in-vitro release study. F4 have better drug entrapment efficiency than the other formulation. The best formulation (F4) was used to prepare gel by using carbopol 934 as a gelling agent. The ethosomes were entrapped in gel matrix of carbopol 980 in different concentration 0.5%, 1.00% and 2% w/w. FT-IR studies revealed no interaction between the drug and excipients. The formulated gel formulation was evaluated with parameter pH, viscosity, spreadability, in-vitro release test, wash ability, extrudability study and stability studies. The formulation EGF2 have better in-vitro drug release profile which contains carbopol 980 concentration 1%w/w. the stability studies performed (EGF2) at refrigeration temperature (4.0±0.2°C), at room temperature (25-28±2°C) and 45±1°C for 45days. These ethosomes were unstable at higher temperature like 45.2°C. Percent efficiency of ethosomes also decrease at higher temperature like 4502°C. Aim: To evaluate the effect of sodium picosulfate/magnesium citrate (SPMC) and 3 L split-dose polyethylene glycol (PEG) with or without dimethicone on bowel preparation before colonoscopy. Methods: In this multicenter, prospective, randomized, controlled study conducted from April 2021 to December 2021, consecutive adult patients scheduled for colonoscopy were prospectively randomized into four groups: SPMC, SPMC plus dimethicone, 3 L PEG, and 3 L PEG plus dimethicone. Primary endpoint was colon cleansing based on Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS). Secondary endpoints were bubble score, time to cecal intubation, adenoma detection rate (ADR), patient safety and compliance, and adverse events. Results: We enrolled 223 and 291 patients in SPMC and 3 L PEG group, respectively. The proportion with acceptable bowel cleansing, total BBPS score and cecal intubation time were similar in all four subgroups (p > 0.05). Patient-reported acceptability and tolerability was significantly greater in SPMC than 3 L PEG group (p < 0.001); adverse events were significantly lower in SPMC than latter group (p < 0.001). ADR in both groups was greater than 30%. Conclusion: SPMC had significantly higher acceptability and tolerability than 3 L PEG, however, was similar in terms of bowel-cleansing effect and cecal intubation time and hence can be used before colonoscopy preparation. Thus, an integrated scheme with corncob was developed to produce ethanol using low dosages of cellulases and value-added products from the semi-simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSSF) residue. Enzymatic hydrolysis and SSSF of acid pretreated corncob (< 20 mesh and > 20 mesh) were carried out under cellulase dosages of 5, 10, and 15 FPU/g in the absence and presence of polyethylene glycol 1500 (PEG 1500). The SSSF residue was used to obtain lignosulfonate via sulfomethylation reaction and phenolic acids via alkaline hydrolysis using 4% (w/v) sodium hydroxide and 0–5% (v/v) hydrogen peroxide. Pretreated corncob < 20 mesh allowed the reduction of cellulase dosage to 5 FPU/g without compromising sugar release. The addition of PEG 1500 boosted sugar release, reaching 56.73 g/L glucose under 20% (w/v) solids. The maximum ethanol production of 31.64 g/L was obtained using 5 FPU/g cellulases, 2% (w/w) PEG 1500, and 20% (w/v) solids (gradual addition). FTIR confirmed the preparation of lignosulfonate from SSSF residue, and the surfactant showed good stabilization performance in oil/water systems (emulsification index≈30%). High yields of p-coumaric acid (8045.3 mg/100 g) and ferulic acid (1429.4 mg/100 g) were obtained in alkaline hydrolysis with 5% (v/v) hydrogen peroxide. Polycarboxylate superplasticizers (PCEs) have been extensively used in the areas of construction and building; however, the application limitation of PCEs has emerged owing to their sensitivity to clay. In this work, three anticlay PCEs were synthesized by introducing acrylamide (AM), methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC), or 3-[2-(methacryloyloxy) ethyl] dimethylammonio-propane-1-sulfonate (DMAPS) into the polycarboxylate copolymer of ethylene glycol monovinyl polyethylene glycol ether (EPEG) and acrylic acid (AA), denoted as A-PCE, D-PCE, and S-PCE, respectively. The structures of these superplasticizers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Compared with the common polycarboxylate superplasticizers (O-PCEs), the resultant anticlay PCEs showed better dispersion as far as the fluidity of cement paste and mortar were concerned. With the content of 0.5% per weight sodium bentonite in place of cement, these anticlay PCEs exhibited better clay resistance than O-PCE. In addition, the compressive strengths of mortar and concrete by the addition of A-PCE, D-PCE, or S-PCE were slightly higher than those of O-PCE. Total organic carbon (TOC) revealed that the sensitivity of A-PCE, D-PCE, and S-PCE to clay was lower than that of O-PCE. X-ray diffraction (XRD) proved that the layer spacing of clay increased after treatment with superplasticizer. In combination of adsorption determination with XRD analysis, a possible mechanism was proposed. Evaluate a new light-cured material with better properties for vital pulp therapy. Light-cured resin materials consisted of polyethylene glycol (600) diacrylate mixed with different ratios of TCP to HA. In addition to the temperature change (n = 5 for each subgroup) were tested, cell viability and Alizarin Red Staining (ARS) assay were also tested in vitro on human dental pulp cells (n = 6 for each subgroup). Lastly, the material was then compared with Biodentine and control groups in the molars of Wistar rats in vivo for histology assessment. The temperature change for the new materials were under 5 degrees Celsius. For the in vitro assessments, there was no significant difference on day 3 and day 7 for cell viability test. ARS assay showed significantly higher mineralized nodule formation when treated without induction medium for Group D and Biodentine on day 10 compared to Group C and control. On the contrary, Biodentine and control groups treated with induction medium showed significant higher mineralization than the new materials. Histology assessments demonstrated higher mineralized content in Group D and Biodentine on week 3 and week 6. The inflammatory cells in the dental pulp complex of the Biodentine group resolved on week 6 while the inflammation resolved in Group D on week 3. The new material exhibits low heat production, low cytotoxicity, and good calcium ion release capability. Silica (chemical formula SiO2) is a promising, more environmentally friendly alternative to carbon black (CB) used in the rubber industry as a filler. Although silica is already used in rubber products, it is not used as extensively as CB because the polar surface of silica cannot interact well with the apolar polymer molecules of the most frequently used rubbers. To solve this problem, experts have tried different grafting methods and several coupling agents for a stronger silica-elastomer connection. In this article, we used bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl] tetrasulfide (TESPT) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) combined to improve the connection between the surface of silica and the apolar styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) matrix. We examined mechanical and structural properties and found that adding 3 phr PEG and 4.5 phr TESPT to SBR is optimal for 60 phr silica content. Plant-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs), containing a myriad of bioactive proteins, microRNAs, lipids, and secondary metabolites, have recently become the focus of rising interest due to their important roles in various applications. The widely accepted method for isolating plant EVs is differential ultracentrifugation plus density gradient centrifugation. However, the combination of differential ultracentrifugation and density gradient centrifugation for the isolation of plant EVs is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Hence, there is a need for more efficient methods to perform the separation of plant EVs. In this study, EVs were separated from Arabidopsis thaliana leaves by a cost-effective polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based precipitation approach. The mean size of purified Arabidopsis thaliana EVs determined by dynamic light scattering was 266 nm, which is consistent with nanoparticle tracking analysis. The size was also confirmed via transmission electron microscopy with morphology of a cup-shaped appearance which is the typical mammalian exosome's morphology. Additionally, Western blotting of the purified Arabidopsis thaliana EVs, using commercially available mammalian exosomal kits, displayed surface marker tetraspanin proteins (CD9, CD63, and CD81), and endosomal sorting complexes required for transport (ESCRT)-associated proteins (TSG101 and ALIX). A simple method set for assessing biochemical changes associated with osmotic stress responses was developed using coffee (Coffea arabica L.) leaf disks. Stress was induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG) exposure. Quantitative evaluation of tissue physiological stress parameters was carried out using analytical methods to validate the conversion of classic qualitative histochemical tests for localizing lipid peroxidation, hydrogen peroxide, and total xanthine alkaloids into semi-quantitative assays. Relative electrolyte leakage (EL%) and chlorophyll content (SPAD index) were also recorded. EL% levels of treated disks were higher than those of control ones, whereas SPAD indexes were comparable. Histochemical localization indicated that levels of lipid peroxidation, H2O2, and total xanthines were also higher under osmotic stress than in control conditions. Semi-quantitative data obtained by image processing of histochemical staining consistently matched quantitative evaluations. Chromatographic analyses revealed that theophylline and caffeine concentrations increased in the presence of PEG, whereas theobromine remained constant in relation to the control. The methods herein described can be useful to rapidly acquire initial data regarding biochemical osmotic stress responses in coffee tissues based on simple staining and imaging steps. The synthesis of bioactive magnetic glass ceramics for hyperthermia treatment is still far from optimization due to the variable performance of many nanostructured systems. 0.2 SiO 2 - 0.5 FeO - 0.3 CaO glass ceramics were synthesized by sol–gel method at room temperature with a precursor to solvent ratio 1:5. The effect of adding polyethylene glycol 4000 (PEG4000) with 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 wt% in the final stage of the sol preparation, on the magnetic and phase properties of the samples was studied. Heat treatment of the samples was done at 680 and 760°C. Phase analysis showed that maghemite and hematite phases have crystallized. By adding PEG4000 from 2 to 12 wt%, the saturation magnetization of the samples increased from 6.9 to 14.95 emu g–1. Further increase of PEG did not have much effect on improving the magnetic properties. It was also seen that heat treatment at higher temperatures led to a decrease in magnetic properties. In this study, we studied the shear thickening performance of a novel silicon nitride and silica-mixed nanoparticles suspension. Silicon-nitride/silica-shear thickening fluids (Si3N4/SiO2-STFs) with different mass fraction ratios were prepared using polyethylene glycol as a dispersion medium. For the Si3N4/SiO2-STFs, the results showed that the viscosity increased from 168.35 (0.0 wt% Si3N4) to 1387.73 Pa s (7.5 wt% Si3N4), and a concomitant decrease in the critical shear rate from 10.0 to 3.55 s–1, while thickening period decreased from 60.92 to 16.03 s–1. Dynamic rheological analysis showed that compared with SiO2-based STF (SiO2-STF), the peak values of storage and loss modulus of 7.5%Si3N4/20%SiO2-STF (7.5 wt% Si3N4 and 20 wt% SiO2) increased nearly six times and three times, respectively. The results also showed that, compared with SiO2-STF, the thickening ratio of 7.5%Si3N4/20%SiO2-STF increases by 174% at 45°C and slows down the effect of temperature increase on the thickening period. Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) is an industrially important herb of immense importance due to its sweetening bioactive compounds, especially rebaudioside A and stevioside. The industrial demand for steviol glycosides is mainly fulfilled by conventional agricultural practices. This resulted in non-uniform steviol glycosides (SGs) accumulation in the produce of S. rebaudiana and it is primarily due to changes in varying climatic conditions, genotypes, and cultivars. Therefore, there is an utmost need for a robust protocol to provide quality planting material to produce metabolite-enriched S. rebaudiana. Ex-vitro acclimatization in fields/natural habitats is believed to be a vital part of determining the fate of regenerated plantlets through micropropagation. In the present investigation, elicitor-treated micropropagated plantlets were allowed to harden for one month; after which percentage survival, growth and leaf biomass yield, chlorophyll fluorescence, biochemical profiling of specialized metabolites, and transcriptional profiling of candidate genes were carried out. A high percentage (80–100%) of acclimatized plants was obtained after 30 days. The 1.5 mg L−1 polyethylene glycol (PEG) treated plants attained higher shoot length (14.10 cm) and maximum leaf biomass (537.60 mg FW and 111.03 mg DW). The Chl fluorescence parameters and pigment content indicated stable photosynthetic efficiency in all conditions. Maximum total SGs were accumulated in 1.5 mg L−1 PEG-treated plants. Expression profiling of SG biosynthetic pathway genes showed an apparent correlation with the metabolite content. The study unveils that 1.5 mg L−1 PEG-treated plants perform better in growth and yield attributes and metabolite accumulation parameters after 1 month of ex-vitro acclimatization. Novel elastomers are made by reaction of hydroxyl‐terminated polyacrylic ester (HyTemp) with polyethylene glycol (PEG, number of ethylene glycol units 1, 3, 6, 9) based cross‐linkers. The influence of the cross‐linker length, the HyTemp/cross‐linker (w/w) ratio and the cross‐linking accelerator trifluoromethanesulfonate scandium salt (ScTFMS) on the structure and the properties of the materials are studied. The cross‐linker length has not influence on the glass transition (Tg) of the products because of the presence of the flexible PEG units that cancels out the cross‐linking effect associated to a shift to higher Tg. A two‐domain structure is seen by the presence of a dual Tg in samples cured with ScTFMS. Mathematical analysis of the modulated differential scanning calorimetry curves offers for the first time the possibility to identify/confirm structural differences in complex three‐dimensional polymeric structures. Scanning electron microscopy and swelling experiments in ethyl acetate respectively reveal an increase in the pore size (1.13 to 5.48 nm) and in the absorption ability of the elastomers cured with different types and quantities of PEG cross‐linker. AbstractBackground and AimsMethodsResultsConclusionsInformation on effective bowel preparation (BP) methods for patients with constipation is limited. We recently reported the efficacy of 1 L polyethylene glycol plus ascorbic acid (PEG-Asc) combined with senna for BP; however, this regimen was insufficient in patients with constipation. We hypothesized that the addition of linaclotide, which is approved for the treatment of chronic constipation, to 1 L PEG-Asc would yield results superior to those of senna in patients with constipation.This was a retrospective, single-center study that included outpatients with constipation who underwent BP prior to colonoscopy between March and December 2019 (receiving 1 L PEG-Asc with 24 mg senna) and between January and October 2020 (receiving 1 L PEG-Asc with 500 mg linaclotide).A total of 543 patients with constipation were included, of whom 269 received linaclotide and 274 received senna. The rate of inadequate BP was significantly lower (11% vs 20%, p < 0.01) and the adenoma detection rate was significantly higher (54% vs 45%, p = 0.04) in the linaclotide group than in the senna group. Multivariate analysis revealed that the linaclotide regimen significantly reduced the risk of inadequate BP (odds ratio = 0.36, 95% confidence interval = 0.21–0.60, p < 0.01).The linaclotide regimen significantly increased BP efficacy and the adenoma detection rate compared with the senna regimen without reducing tolerability and is therefore a promising new option for BP in patients with constipation. AbstractThe majority of treatments are performed with polysulfone (PSf) membranes. The main issue of the PSf membrane is its lack of endothelial function, leading to various processes like platelet adhesion, protein adsorption, and thrombus formation when comes in contact with blood. The crucial aspect in the development of hemodialysis (HD) membrane materials is a biocompatibility factor. This study aims to improve the performance and biocompatibility of PSf membranes by utilizing polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a pore-forming agent and polyacrylamide (PAA) as a multifunctional modifying additive owing to its non-toxic, and biocompatible nature. The formulated HD membranes were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Water Contact Angle (WCA) measurements. The biocompatibility results showed that PSf-PAA membranes reduced the adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein, hemolysis process, thrombus formation, and platelets adhesion with improved in vitro cytotoxicity results as well as anticoagulation performance. The protein separation results showed that PSf-PAA membranes were able to reject 90.1% and 92.8% of BSA protein. The membranes also showed better uremic waste clearance for urea (76.56% and 78.24%) and creatinine (73.71% and 79.13%) solutes, respectively. In this study, a γ‐boehmite (γ‐AlOOH) – PEG/polyethylene (PE) lithium‐ion battery separator was fabricated using a dip‐coating method, with γ‐AlOOH nanowhiskers being synthesized directly through a hydrothermal process,and polyethylene glycol 10000 (PEG‐10000) was chosen for the first time as a dispersant for the γ‐AlOOH nanowhiskers in the PE coating slurry{Lee, 2014 #7}. Simultaneously, the membrane's performance was characterized, confirming the significant dispersion effect of PEG‐10000, resulting in a porosity as high as 64 % in the AlOOH‐PEG/PE, a substantial increase compared to the PE separator (40 %). The AlOOH‐PEG/PE separator maintains its structural integrity even after a 0.5 h test at 200 °C, showcasing outstanding stability and significantly improved safety. Besides, the LIB half cells assembled with the PE/AlOOH‐PEG separator exhibited remarkable performance, with a capacity of 73.9 % in power capability (at 5 C rate) and a 97.1 % discharge capacity retention rates in cycle performance (after 400 cycles, at 2 C rate). High-quality inorganic perovskite films are the most vital factor to assemble efficient and stable inorganic perovskite solar cells. Herein, a polyethylene glycol (PEG)-assisted two-step sequential deposition process is proposed to fabricate high-quality CsPbIBr2 perovskite films, wherein PEG is incorporated into a PbBr2 solution to modulate the PbBr2 colloidal properties due to the strong interaction between PEG molecules and PbBr2. The modulation of PbBr2 colloidal properties through adding PEG tunes the crystallization of PbBr2 and leads to the formation of porous PbBr2 films during the first-step deposition process. Such porous PbBr2 films favor CsI penetration during the second-step CsI deposition process and provides sufficient space for perovskite crystal growth and volume enlargement during the subsequent annealing process. As a result, a full-coverage and high-quality CsPbIBr2 perovskite film with reduced defects and enlarged grains is obtained after optimizing the amount of PEG. The assembled carbon-based CsPbIBr2 perovskite solar cell delivers a high power conversion efficiency of 10.26%. Plasmonic antennas leveraging localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR) hold a significant premise for efficiently trapping nanoscale particles at low power levels. However, their effectiveness is hindered by photothermal effects that arise with metallic nanoparticles, leading to decreased stability of trapped particles. To address this limitation, a hybrid approach that combines depletion attraction and photothermal effects inherent in plasmonic structures is proposed, capitalizing on thermally induced concentration gradients. Through the thermophoretic depletion of polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecules around plasmonic hotspots, sharp concentration gradients are created, enabling precise localization of nanoscopic particles through a synergistic effect with diffusiophoretic forces. Our experiments successfully demonstrate the ability to trap and dynamically manipulate small extracellular vesicles and 100 nm polystyrene beads, showcasing the platform's potential for assembly at the nanoscale. Remarkably, this method maintains stable trapping performance even at a laser power of 0.78mW$0.78\ {\rm mW}$. The demonstration of stable trapping of small extracellular vesicles showcases the compatibility of this platform with bio species. In this study, we investigated the impact of polyethylene glycol, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, and polyvinyl alcohol on the rheological behavior, printability, and mechanical/physical properties of 3D‐printed scaffolds for high‐temperature applications using SiC/clay ceramic paste. Employing the Direct Ink Writing method, varying concentrations of each polymer (PEG: 2.5%–10% weight, CMC: .6%–1.8% weight, PVA: .25%–1% weight) were incorporated into the composition. The resulting SiC/clay paste, with adjusted additive content, was used to 3D‐print scaffold structures through Direct Ink Writing. Sintering of clay‐bonded SiC samples were carried out at 1300°C for 1 h in an ambient atmosphere. The research revealed that altering the additive amounts significantly influenced the rheological behavior, mechanical properties, and physical characteristics of the printed specimens. Notably, the ideal properties with additive concentrations (10% wt PEG, 1% wt PVA, and .6% CMC) were identified, providing the best outcomes in terms of printability and firing results. High density samples with 2.09, 1.93, and 1.79 g/cm3, high compression strength of 20.82, 14.5 and 12.53 MPa with 32.26%, 42.5%, and 52.63% open porosity for samples containing PVA, CMC, and PEG modifiers were obtained, respectively. Due to their unique spiral structure and unexpected properties, transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) nanoscrolls have been widely explored in the fields of optoelectronic devices, hydrogen evolution catalysis, and gas sensing. Unfortunately, the large-scale fabrication of a closely packed and clean TMDC nanoscroll is still a challenge, which hinders the potential application of TMDC nanoscrolls in optoelectronics. In this work, we report a centrifugal force-assisted method to prepare TMDC nanoscrolls with lengths ranging from tens to hundreds of micrometers by spin-coating poly-(ethylene glycol) (PEG) on monolayer TMDC nanosheets, which were grown by chemical vapor deposition. The as-prepared TMDC nanoscrolls were well-characterized by optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, ultralow-frequency (ULF) Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The interlayer spacing of the nanoscrolls was found to be as small as 0.53 nm, indicating a closely packed and clean structure. The strong coupling between adjacent layers of the nanoscroll was further confirmed by the appearance of multiple layer-breathing mode peaks in the ULF Raman spectrum. Moreover, the nanoscroll prepared by spin-coating PEG showed much better optoelectronic performance, such as carrier mobility, photoresponsivity, photosensitivity, and external quantum efficiency, than the MoS2 nanoscroll prepared by an ethanol droplet and a monolayer MoS2 nanosheet. We not only provide a facile method for the large-scale preparation of TMDC nanoscrolls with a closely packed and clean structure but also demonstrate the promising potential of TMDC nanoscrolls in optoelectronic devices. The concept of nanostructuring and doping of hematite (α‐Fe2O3) photoanodes have been widely engaged towards improving their photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) response. Here, a FeCl3‐based solution was modified with 0–10 % polyethylene glycol (PEG) 400 and used as an electrolyte for the electrodeposition of nanostructured α‐Fe2O3 thin films. The electrolyte containing 10 % PEG was further used to prepare Mn‐doped α‐Fe2O3 films by adding 1, 3, 6, and 10 % of MnCl2.4H2O with respect to the molarity of FeCl3. The addition of 10 % PEG into the electrolyte limited particle agglomeration and yielded the best PEC response among the pristine films. The 3 % Mn‐doped α‐Fe2O3 photoanodes produced the highest photocurrent, yielding 2.2 and 6.1‐fold photocurrent enhancement at 1.23 V and 1.5 V vs. RHE respectively, over the pristine films. The improved PEC response is linked to the reduced particle agglomeration and improved charge transport properties observed for the films. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the formation energies yielded negative values for the Mn‐doped α‐Fe2O3, which implies that the materials are thermodynamically stable after doping. In this study, polyimide (PI) and polysulfonamide (PSA) were used as base materials, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) was added to successfully prepare PI/PSA/PEG nanofiber membranes through electrospinning technology. Subsequently, water etching was performed on the membranes, utilizing the water solubility of PEG to form the rough wrinkled structure, further enhancing the surface hydrophobicity. The experimental results showed that under the conditions of a spinning voltage of 10 kV, PI/PSA mass fraction of 15 wt.%, and PEG-to-PI/PSA mass ratio of 1/3, the obtained fiber membranes exhibit a uniform morphology (an average diameter of 0.73 µm) and excellent hydrophobicity (the initial water contact angle (WCA) reaching 130.4°). After PEG water etching, the surface of the PI/PSA/PEG hydrophobic membranes formed the rough wrinkled structure, which not only improved their mechanical properties but also further enhanced their hydrophobicity (the initial WCA increasing to 137.9°). Phase change materials with high energy storage density and stable phase change temperature are ideal choices for personal thermal therapy and heat management. However, leakage and poor flexibility have long been bottlenecks in their application. Excellent latent heat performance and flexibility are crucial, especially in the thermal management of flexible wearable devices. In this study, a simple strategy was adopted to prepare a flexible polyurethane-based phase change material using a prepolymer method with polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the phase change material. Attributed to the cross-linked network structure in the polymer, the prepared phase change material exhibits excellent thermal stability and shape stability without leakage. Additionally, it shows relatively high latent heat and good flexibility. Based on these significant comprehensive properties, a performance-improved thermal wrist wrap was designed to achieve thermal therapy and efficient human heat management. This work provides insights into the rational design of flexible and shape-stable high latent heat phase change materials, demonstrating tremendous potential applications in wearable thermal management. At present, stationary phases based on ionic liquids are a promising and widely used technique in gas chromatography, yet they remain poorly studied. Unfortunately, testing of "new" stationary phases is often carried out on a limited set of test compounds (about 10 compounds) of relatively simple structures. This study represents the first investigation into the physicochemical patterns of retention of substituted (including polysubstituted) aromatic alcohols on two stationary phases of different polarities: one based on pyridinium-based ionic liquids and the other on a standard polar phase. The retention order of the studied compounds on such stationary phases compared to the standard polar phase, polyethylene glycol (SH-Stabilwax), was compared and studied. It was shown that pyridinium-based ionic liquids stationary phase has a different selectivity compared to the SH-Stabilwax. Using a quantitative structure–retention relationships (QSRR) study, the differences in selectivity of the two stationary phases were interpreted. Using CHERESHNYA software, the importance of descriptors on different stationary phases was evaluated for the same data set. Different selectivity of the stationary phases correlates with different contributions of descriptors for the analytes under study. For the first time, we show that in-column dehydration is observed for some compounds (mostly substituted benzyl alcohols). This effect is worthy of further investigation and requires attention when analyzing complex mixtures. It suggests that when testing "new" stationary phases, it is necessary to conduct tests on a large set of different classes of compounds. Bioactive glass is currently considered a material with a high biocompatibility and has been used both in the field of bone regeneration and in the preparation of cosmetic products with the controlled release of active compounds. The present work involved a study on the synthesis of bioglass using the sol–gel process. The study aims to evaluate the influence of the treatment of bioglass with Polyethylene glycol 4000 (PEG 4000) on its main characteristics. The surface characteristics of this material were obtained by nitrogen adsorption/desorption analysis, using the standard BET (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller) equation, the crystallinity by XRD (X-ray diffraction) analysis, the surface structure by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), thermal stability by TGA (ThermoGravimetric Analyses), and chemical bonds changes by FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectroscopy. After treatment with PEG 4000, the average diameter of the pores increased insignificantly, the crystallinity peak disappeared, and the SEM analysis highlighted several clusters of very small sizes. Bee alarm pheromones are essential molecules that are present in beehives when some threats occur in the bee population. In this work, we have applied multilevel modeling techniques to understand molecular interactions between representative bee alarm pheromones and polymers such as polymethyl siloxane (PDMS), polyethylene glycol (PEG), and their blend. This study aimed to check how these interactions can be manipulated to enable efficient separation of bee alarm pheromones in portable membrane inlet mass spectrometric (MIMS) systems using new membranes. The study involved the application of powerful computational atomistic methods based on a combination of modern semiempirical (GFN2-xTB), first principles (DFT), and force-field calculations. As a fundamental work material for the separation of molecules, we considered the PDMS polymer, a well-known sorbent material known to be applicable for light polar molecules. To improve its applicability as a sorbent material for heavier polar molecules, we considered two main factors—temperature and the addition of PEG polymer. Additional insights into molecular interactions were obtained by studying intrinsic reactive properties and noncovalent interactions between bee alarm pheromones and PDMS and PEG polymer chains. Water‐dispersible fluorescent nano‐/microspheres have been widely used as fluorescent probes in many fields. In this paper, aldehyde‐functionalized fluorescent micelles are synthesized by self‐assembly of end‐modified hyperbranched poly(m‐phenyleneethynylene‐alter‐p‐phenyleneethynylene)(hb‐PMPE). First, hb‐PMPE with ‐Br end‐groups(hb‐PMPE‐Br) is obtained by the polymerization of AB2 monomer PhBr2–C≡C–Ph–C≡CH, then the reaction of hb‐PMPE‐Br with 4‐ethynylbenzaldehyde (EBA) gives end aldehyde‐functionalized hyperbranched polymer hb‐PMPE‐CHO. Hence, hb‐PMPE‐CHO is reacted with aminooxy methoxypolyethylene glycol‐2000 (NH2O‐MPEG2000) to link poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains to the ends of hb‐PMPE‐CHO with partial residual aldehyde end‐groups, resulting in aldehyde‐functionalized amphiphilic polymer hb‐PMPE‐PEG. Fluorescent micelles with aldehyde‐containing fluorescent hb‐PMPE core and PEG shell are obtained by self‐assembling hb‐PMPE‐PEG in water. The micelle diameter is determined by the PEG content in hb‐PMPE‐PEG, which can be controlled by the reaction weight ratio of NH2O‐MPEG2000/hb‐PMPE‐CHO. When the ratio of NH2O‐MPEG2000/hb‐PMPE‐CHO > 0.75/1, micelles with a diameter < 50 nm are obtained. The water dispersion of hb‐PMPE‐PEG‐1/2 micelles (28.9 nm) emits bright green fluorescence with λmax ≈ 490 nm under UV irradiation, and the emission intensity increases with increasing concentration. The utilization of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement is employed for the purpose of stabilizing fractured vertebral bodies. The existence of a mechanical imbalance in hard polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement has the potential to increase the likelihood of a fracture occurring in the neighbouring vertebral body. In order to reduce potential difficulties, the primary goal of this study is to investigate the potential benefits of increasing PMMA bone cement's bioactivity and lowering its elastic modulus. The incorporation of a 10% volume fraction of hyaluronic acid (HyA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) into the bone cement led to an improvement in the bioactivity and decreasing of elastic modulus of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The integration of HyPE gel phase presents several advantages over pure PMMA bone cement, including enhanced setting parameters, improved degradability, and increased biocompatibility. The gel phase is additionally accountable for a reduction in the elastic modulus of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement. In addition, the existence of a porous structure that arises from the degradation of the HyPE gel phase delivers a significant amount of room, thereby enhancing the process of bone regeneration when implanted in the femur of rabbits. The utilization of HyPE in PMMA has been shown through comprehensive µ-CT analysis to enhance bone formation, thereby promoting osteointegration at the implantation site. Furthermore, the histological analysis demonstrated the existence of osteogenic activity in the PMMA polyethylene glycol supplemented with 10% HyA and 10% PEG after a 2-month period subsequent to implantation. Control of phosphate capture and release is vital in environmental, biological, and pharmaceutical contexts. However, the binding of trivalent phosphate (PO43−) in water is exceptionally difficult due to its high hydration energy. Based on the anion coordination chemistry of phosphate, in this study, four charge‐neutral tripodal hexaurea receptors (L1–L4), which were equipped with morpholine and polyethylene glycol terminal groups to enhance their solubility in water, were synthesized to enable the pH‐triggered phosphate binding and release in aqueous solutions. Encouragingly, the receptors were found to bind PO43− anion in a 1 : 1 ratio via hydrogen bonds in 100 % water solutions, with L1 exhibiting the highest binding constant (1.2×103 M−1). These represent the first neutral anion ligands to bind phosphate in 100 % water and demonstrate the potential for phosphate capture and release in water through pH‐triggered mechanisms, mimicking native phosphate binding proteins. Furthermore, L1 can also bind multiple bioavailable phosphate species, which may serve as model systems for probing and modulating phosphate homeostasis in biological and biomedical researches. Two key challenges in the multidisciplinary field of sequence‐controlled polymers are their efficient synthesis and the establishment of correlation with polymer properties. In this context, in this paper, gradient architecture in the hydrophobic tail of an amphiphile is implemented and synthesized for a fixed hydrophilic unit (polyethylene glycol, PEG), by means of two monomers (2‐hydroxypropyl methacrylate, HPMA, and diacetone acrylamide, DAAM) of contrasting reactivities. The resulting non‐biochemical gradient sequence‐controlled polymers are generated from a one‐pot, homogeneous mixture through a PET‐RAFT‐PISA (photoinduced electron/energy transfer‐reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer‐polymerization‐induced self‐assembly) method. In addition, the initial concentration ratio of the monomers in the gradient is varied as an input for a set of fixed experimental parameters and conditions, and its correlation with kinetics, gradient and self‐assembled morphologies is established, as the output of the process. These results are extensively corroborated via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analysis, together with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) experiments. These results have implications for chemical computation carried out by PISA, programmable self‐assembly, information storage, biomimetics, origins of life and synthetic protocell studies. Background: This study aimed to compare oral sulfate solution (OSS) with polyethylene glycol (PEG) for bowel preparation before colonoscopy. Methods: A literature search was performed on PubMed, Ovid, and Cochrane Databases for randomized clinical trials (RCT) comparing OSS with PEG for bowel preparation before colonoscopy. The last search was performed on 22 August 2023. The primary outcome was the quality of bowel preparation. The outcomes were compared by meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA). Results: A total of 14 RCTs with 4526 patients were included. OSS was comparable with PEG regarding adequate bowel preparation [P = 0.16, odds ratio (OR) = 1.19, 95% confidence interval (CI) [0.93, 1.51], I2 = 0%]. However, OSS showed obvious priority in excellent bowel preparation (P < 0.001, OR = 1.62, 95% CI [1.27, 2.05], I2 = 0%) and total Boston bowel preparation scale (BBPS) [P = 0.02, weighted mean difference (WMD) = 0.27, 95% CI [0.05, 0.50], I2 = 84%]. Additionally, the detection rate of polyps (P = 0.001, OR = 1.44, 95% CI [1.15, 1.80], I2 = 0%) and adenoma (P = 0.007, OR = 1.22, 95% CI [1.06, 1.42], I2 = 0%) was significantly higher in the OSS group. The two groups showed comparable incidence of adverse events except for a higher incidence of dizziness (P = 0.02, OR = 1.74, 95% CI [1.08, 2.83], I2 = 11%) was indicated in the OSS group. Moreover, OSS was associated with a higher satisfaction score (P = 0.02, WMD = 0.62, 95% CI [0.09, 1.15], I2 = 70%). In the TSA, the cumulative Z-curve crossed both the conventional boundary and trial sequential monitoring boundary and the required information size has been reached for excellent bowel preparation and total BBPS. Nano additives play an important role in improving the lubricating properties and enhancing the bearing capacity of lubricants. However, traditional nano-additives contain harmful elements such as heavy metals, sulfur, phosphorus, which have a non-negligible impact on the green production of modern industry. In this study, four kinds of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis method, namely CQDs, amino modified CQDs (CQDs-NH2), alkyl modified CQDs (CQDs-CH3), and hydroxyl modified CQDs (CQDs-OH). The microscopic morphology, chemical structure and luminescence of CQDs were characterized. The effects of four kinds of CQDs additives on the tribological properties of polyethylene glycol (PEG) were studied. The results showed that compared with PEG, the average friction coefficient and wear volume of PEG containing 3% CQDs-OH decreased by 60.50% and 95.05%, respectively. A composite protective film containing carbon, nitrogen, FeO, Fe2O3 forms on the worn surface, due to the end hydroxyl group of CQDs-OH has good adsorption. In addition, after 3 months of dispersion experiment, the PEG containing 3% CQDs-OH showed the best dispersion stability, and the antifriction effect was still better than that of pure PEG. Hypoxia is an important feature of the tumor microenvironment (TME) of most solid tumors, and it is closely linked to cancer cell proliferation, therapy resistance, and the tumor immune response. Herein, we describe a method for hypoxia-induced heterogeneous oxygen distribution in xenograft tumors based on phosphorescence imaging microscopy (PLIM) using intravascular and intracellular oxygen probes. We synthesized Ir(III) complexes with polyethylene glycol (PEG) units of different molecular weights into the ligand as intravascular oxygen probes, BTP-PEGm (m = 2000, 5000, 10000, 20000). BTP-PEGm showed red emission with relatively high emission quantum yield and high oxygen sensitivity in saline. Cellular and in vivo experiments using these complexes revealed that BTP-PEG10000 was the most suitable probe in terms of blood retention and ease of intravenous administration in mice. PLIM measurements of xenograft tumors in mice treated with BTP-PEG10000 allowed simultaneous imaging of the tumor microvasculature and quantification of oxygen partial pressures. From lifetime images using the red-emitting intracellular oxygen probe BTPDM1 and the green-emitting intravascular fluorescent probe FITC-dextran, we demonstrated hypoxic heterogeneity in the TME with a sparse vascular network and showed that the oxygen levels of tumor cells gradually decreased with vascular distance. A polyethylene glycol-tethered amphiphilic calix[4]pyrrole compound (C4P-PEG) was synthesized via an esterification reaction between the corresponding alcohol-functionalised calix[4]pyrrole and carboxylic acid ended polyethylene glycol. The structure of C4P-PEG was confirmed by means of NMR spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The complexation ability of the control compound octamethylcalix[4]pyrrole and C4P-PEG with chemotherapeutic cancer drug, doxorubicin-HCl, was shown with the aid of various NMR techniques in DMSO, containing 1.5% (wt) water. Nonionic amphiphilic calix[4]pyrrole compound C4P-PEG was then shown to produce stable micelles in water. The title compound was also used to encapsulate doxorubicin-HCl in aqueous medium and its concurrent drug release ability was illustrated under acidic and basic conditions. While the characterizations of drug-free and drug-loaded micelles were carried out with dynamic light scattering experiments and transmission electron microscopy, the drug loading capacity, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release profiles were studied with the aid of UV-vis spectrophotometry. Covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) containing S heteroatom are promising materials for applications in photocatalysis due to their donor–acceptor-type structures, which can improve the mobility of carriers in polymers. Herein, a series of composites (TTBT-COF@PEGx, x = 10, 20, and 30) were prepared based on CTF containing S heteroatom and polyethylene glycol (PEG) by a two-step reaction. The results show that the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of TTBT-COF@PEG30 is 1.51 times that of pristine TTBT-COF. This significant improvement was attributed to PEG in the pores, which resulted in a stable layered structure, reuced distortion and deformation of the skeleton, and rapid separation and transportation of photogenerated electron holes.
