- Abstract
Traditional and complementary medicine has always aided the global population in managing various ailments and its role has been acknowledged by World Health Organization. The G20 is the leading global platform for economic collaboration, influencing international policies across sectors such as agriculture, culture, the digital economy, education, employment, finance, and health to guide resilient global strategies. This study highlights conversations within the health working group of the Sherpa track, focusing in particular on traditional medicines and their diverse intersecting aspects. The information was collected from publications by G20 Indian presidency including G20 communications, think tanks (T20), press releases, speeches, and policy briefs. Throughout four health working group meetings, two side events organized by the Ministry of Ayush, and three joint health‐finance task force meetings, key topics discussed included digital health, Universal Health Coverage, Medical Value Travel through wellness tourism, a One‐Health approach, primary healthcare, Yoga, biodiversity, access and benefit sharing of natural resources, and scientific evidence—all of which were connected to traditional medicines. Unlike past G20 presidencies, the Indian G20 presidency recognize the importance of traditional medicines, marking renewed cooperation in this area. The "Gujrat Declaration 2023" must act as a guiding beacon for crafting robust policies concerning traditional medicines on a global scale. The Ministry of Ayush has excelled in advancing traditional medicine systems across all its sectors through well‐organized and intellectually enriching discussions. Upcoming G20 presidencies should build on the discussions about traditional medicine initiated by the Indian presidency and elevate them to new heights. Considering traditional medicine's unique logic, principals, validity, and largescale patient dependency, efforts should be made to form a dedicated sub‐working group within the health working group to delve deeper into the subject. Key Points: Traditional and complementary medicine are acknowledged by the World Health Organization and the forum provided by the G20 is encouraging cooperation and shaping global policies.India's G20 Presidency encouraged the pursuit of digital health, universal health coverage, medical value tourism, one‐health, primary healthcare, Yoga, and biodiversity with a key emphasis on scientific validation of traditional medicines. The "Gujrat Declaration 2023" will be a guiding beacon for crafting resilient policies as the outcomes of India's G20 presidency recognize traditional medicine as a promising new area for significant cooperation. 3. NHS dentistry in Britain: A long overdue check‐up.

- Abstract
There has been longstanding international fascination with the British National Health Service since it was established in 1948. The British population itself has offered enduring support for the principles and institutions of public provision. However, coverage of the NHS has typically been uneven in academic and policy debates. There is limited understanding of some darker corners of NHS provision resulting in a partial picture of public service provision. Public dentistry has been a Cinderella service in broader debates about the NHS and a check‐up is overdue. We offer a long‐term view of dentistry that assesses the current state of dental health policy, including its gradual decay. We examine the purpose of dentistry and the challenge of injecting fundamental National Health Service values (weighted capitation and a focus on need) into services and which necessitates redistribution and tackling shibboleths of NHS provision. Alongside political values and public attitudes, we examine the interests of professional stakeholders and how the combination of values, attitudes, and interests does not currently cohere into a sustainable policy. We explore how dentistry might recover purpose and respond to need. Discussion is prescient considering an acknowledged crisis in British dental care, including widespread public and media coverage, and with 2024 being a general election year with NHS provision a familiar battleground. Key Points: Dentistry remains an overlooked and neglected corner in academic understanding and analysis of contemporary British healthcare and the NHS.Our succinct analysis of dentistry assesses the current state of dental health policy. It examines the purpose of dentistry and the challenge of injecting fundamental NHS values into services. It asks how dentistry might recover purpose and respond to need. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we examine the outbursts of a white passenger on a London tram, antagonizing others through swearing, nationalist, racist and anti-immigrant talk and the responses of carriage members to her confrontational talk. Our analysis uses a video recording of the event made by a passenger that circulated widely on social and news media. We document multiple forms of response, including the video-witnessing itself. We describe how the trouble-making passenger antagonizes other passengers in order to produce opponents. In addition, we track how members of the carriage, in responding, show their right to respond, seek to avoid the terms of the confrontation and, once constituted as political opponents, their opposition to the politics being expressed. In examining the responses to the trouble-making and the politics being contested between the persons involved and, in tracking how public transport is attempted to be transformed into an ad hoc agora, we contribute to Barnett's work on convening public space, ordinary action, and politics in human geography. RELIGION , *SECULARIZATION , *POLITICAL science , *VOTERS - Abstract
Academic evaluations of the relationship between religion, secularization, and far-right collective actors have grown increasingly complicated. New religious immigrants, seen as invaders importing contradictory values imposed on the populous by EU elites, may threaten Christian and irreligious Europeans. Europe has been secularizing for decades, concurrent with a resurgence in far-right collective action, but this far-right resurgence has also accompanied an increase in religious discourse in politics. In this study, I investigate the relationship between religion, secularization, and far-right collective action utilizing three case studies. I find, with some caveats, that in Hungary, Fidesz motivates Christian voters with religious nationalist appeals, while assertive secularization motivates irreligious voters in the Netherlands. Italy is more complex, where far-right collective actors are less able to monopolize social issues. These findings speak to the critical role religious values and institutions play in shaping voter preferences and present competing options for secularist politics moving forward. CRITICAL thinking , *OPEN-ended questions , *VOCATION , *WEAVING , *PRACTICAL politics , *DIGNITY - Abstract
Our objective is to pay tribute to the invaluable figure of the master Carlos Walter Porto-Gonçalves, who taught us to look at and get involved in reality from the critical thinking and the heart. It also shows a weaving of threads of experiences shared in Chiapas, Mexico with women's collectives. It also honors the thirty years of experience of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), whose territorial and organizational expressions have provided and continue to provide valuable learning and unlearning to those of us who continue to organize for worlds of life without exploitation, contempt, dispossession and violence. From a participatory and committed advocacy methodology, they seek to open questions and imaginaries to rethink politics beyond the established canons, inspired by these experiences. The results invite to collectively test and learn new practices rooted in Mother Earth, rooted in the territories, guided by rebellious dignity and with a community vocation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the last three months of 1943, a technical committee composed of leaders of the Chilean Teachers' Union (UPCH) together with writers and artists created the Silabario Democrático, which was finally put into circulation in 1944. The aim of this paper is to approach the contents of the Silabario first by succinctly reconstructing its context of production and then developing a general reading of its contents, divided into its four sections. We argue that although the text proposes as an immediate task to contribute to the eradication of illiteracy, it also had as a tacit objective to promote the identification of the reader/student with a class (the working class) and with a national identity (being Chilean) both united by their own interpretation of national history where the governments of the Popular Front were considered as the peak of democratic possibilities. Methodologically, the Silabario Democrático was used as raw material to carry out a content analysis, for the contextual reconstruction, documents of UPCH conventions were used, as well as newspapers of national circulation such as El Siglo, La Nación and the UPCH newspaper, Unidad. Traditionally, factions and seniority determined who became President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and, thus, Japan's Prime Minister. Since the electoral reform of 1994, however, some scholars have argued that the role of factions has declined, and this has led to ongoing debates over the extent to which factions and other factors have helped determine who will become the leader of Japan's LDP. Using data from the 2021 LDP Presidential election, we find that it is not policy but factional affiliations that matter for LDP members in selecting their leader. In addition to this finding, we disaggregate faction and show that the influence of this political institution in LDP Presidential elections varies across different factions. We also find that electorally weaker LDP incumbents are more likely to support a candidate who is more popular among Japanese voters in general. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For decades, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture has implemented various measures to ensure a stable food supply, considering food security a top priority due to the increasing uncertainty of the global economy. However, the ministry's food security policy has evolved substantially with a disproportionate focus on the domestic production of specific food products. This policy change occurred without being widely recognized by the public, media, or intellectuals. Why has the Agricultural Ministry's policy changed even though its goal has remained the same? By applying both qualitative and quantitative research methods, we investigated the context behind this obscure policy transition. Our findings reveal that, contrary to conventional understanding, this policy shift occurred not so much due to political pressure from the agricultural sector, but mainly because of a change in the definition of a key policy concept (i.e., the food self‐sufficiency rate) in the late 1980s. This study compares the disasters between 1802 and 1812 in South America, differentiating the use of political and religious discourse between those of biological origin, such as smallpox, and geological origin, such as an earthquake. The knowledge that circulated at that time about the possible causes of these phenomena ranged from more scientific explanations in the context of the Enlightenment movement to more traditional opinions rooted in a providential thought inherited from the Ancien Régime. To answer these research questions, official documents, letters, newspapers of the time, and files from the General Archive of the Indies, the National Historical Archive of Spain, and a specialized bibliography were used.

Anchored in notes elaborated in a multispecies ethnography, this text formulates a reading of biological science laboratories as situating practices of human and non-human actors. For this, the authors bring up plants from/in the caatinga, laboratory equipment, chemical reagents and biologists as entities that act collectively to produce slides with plant pieces that circulate in physical spaces and in texts, becoming entities capable of, although distant from their referents (the plants of the caatinga), informing the transformations (and impacts) of the environments in which they inhabit. It is argued that the actors, human or not, involved in multispecies plots of biological science laboratories, respond from their own agendas that, when tuned, bring outresearch, laboratories and other territories in a constant work of mediation. - Abstract
In this research we analyze the struggles and interactions of the government and the Bolivian universities around how engineers and cadres technicians should be trained, and be technical requirements required by the planned modernization, or developmentalism, of the country between 1960 and 1964. We inquire about his visions inherent to developmentalism, the formation of squares techniques as means of that, and their political strategies and available resources seeking impose them. We reveal the influences of these issues on the effective training of cadres technicians; the institutional reconfiguration of higher education in Bolivia, especially its facets subsequent to the creation of the Bolivian Technological Institute (ITB); and the its facets subsequent to the creation of the Bolivian Technological Institute (ITB); and the rearrangements and consequences of political struggles seeking to intervene in modernization planning of the country and its consequences. We retrieved primary data from the following sources: rectorate files and the institutional memories of the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS), documents newspapers, political newspapers (weeklies, proclamations, pamphlets, union resolutions and assembly meetings, among others), writers of university congresses and rectors' conferences; as well as: laws, supreme decrees, official speeches and essay production. RADIO waves , *CITIES & towns , *POLITICAL advertising , *CARTOGRAPHY , *ELECTIONS , *LOYALTY - Abstract
This article presents an overview of local radio based on its connections with politics in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, located in the Midwest of Brazil. Methodologically, the investigation is grounded in the cartography method, which allowed for the identification, through the inventory of sound broadcasting in Mato Grosso do Sul, of politicians who currently or previously held radio concessions, either in the present or in the recent past. It was also possible to identify political communicators with state-level representation who use radio waves to achieve success at the polls. The link between radio and politics, from the economic perspective ensured through state advertising, was measured by a structured questionnaire applied to the directors of 16 stations located in the main cities of Mato Grosso do Sul. The data demonstrate that the relationship between radio and politics is intertwined with issues of ownership, economic dependence in terms of sustainability through state advertising, and programming led by political agents who use this strategy to build loyalty among potential voters in elections held biennially in the local region. Analyzes sources linked to Operation Condor found in the Archivo del Terror in Paraguay. The political situation of the Guarani country in the second half of the 20th century was marked by the dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989), with a base supported by State institutions, the war apparatus of the military and political parties that supported him, such as the Partido Colorado. The analysis focuses on documents from the dictatorial power itself found at the end of 1992 near Asunción. The collection is made up of thousands of documents of different types, such as letters, memos, letters, invitations, orders, reports, various controls, among others. The results of the article come from a qualitative analysis of the sources, seeking to uncover hidden facts in the contemporary history of Paraguay that show the violence that exists in this context. SOCIAL support , *POLITICAL leadership , *SOCIAL network analysis , *MASS media & politics , *POLITICAL agenda , *PUBLIC sphere - Abstract
For decades, traditional and digital-native media brands have competed with a diverse array of actors, challenging their journalistic leadership, authority, and public legitimacy. Simultaneously, the current media system, both hybrid and disruptive, offers these brands various opportunities to reclaim their centrality as reference media and provide safeguards against disinformation threats. This context is of particular interest for investigating the presence and conversational leadership of these reference media on X (Twitter), through an empirical approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods supported by Social Network Analysis (SNA). This article, therefore, examines the activity metrics, thematic agenda, engagement capacity, and follower dynamics exhibited over one year by twenty-two Spanish media outlets on the mentioned social network. The results provide the first scientific evidence of the extent to which these reference media brands capitalize on the digital public debate on current events. The conclusions distinguish the conversational weight or leadership of these media in the political agenda and topics related to entertainment at both the national and global levels. Thus, the article contributes to highlighting and understanding the strategies and leadership of major media brands on social networks regarding the main topics of public interest and their ability to mediate and influence hyperconnected sources and audiences. The general objective of this article is to summarize the trajectory of the Argentine right throughout the 21st century. Specifically, the text seeks to characterize the rise of the most radicalized right-wing expressions, as well as to identify the socialization process between liberal conservative republicans and reactionary nationalists. The text proposes an interpretative line that divides the period into four sub-stages, prioritizing an approach that combines three disciplinary areas: history, political ideas and communication. POLITICAL corruption , *PUBLIC opinion , *PUBLIC administration , *PUBLIC meetings , *DECISION making , *VOTERS - Abstract
Purpose: The research aimed to verify the influence of meeting public demands on the perception of tolerance of Brazilian voters towards the "rouba, mas faz" policy. Although a social unison of rejection of corruption in politics is perceived, there is a possibility that voters relax this disapproval in the face of the results that managers offer to communities. Methodology: Study of quantitative approach, as for the procedures, a survey was used, with a questionnaire and study of scenarios, of tolerance to "rouba, mas faz", as a research instrument. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics and presentation in percentages were used for the answers to assertions and scenarios. Results: The results indicate that Brazilians demand honest politicians, although for almost 25% of the population every politician is corrupt, without distinction; for 80% of respondents the main cause of problems in Brazilian public management is political corruption; approximately 70% of voters do not use transparency portals to decide their vote, although 80% claim to research the candidates' history before making their decision. Contributions of the Study: Aspects related to the median voter theory were perceived, since, although Brazilian voters demonstrate intolerance to corruption, the profile with the average characteristics of the population tends to vote for that candidate who promises to meet their needs. In addition, in general terms, 7% of the sample would re-elect a very corrupt politician, as long as he is very productive, while 24% would tolerate corruption, as long as it occurs on a small scale and is accompanied by works and benefits to society, implying that there is, in general terms, to a certain degree, the influence of meeting public demands on voters' tolerance of the "rouba, mas faz" policy in Brazil. WATER management , *WATER supply , *INSTITUTIONAL repositories , *ACADEMIC dissertations , *STATE universities & colleges - Abstract
This study sought to understand and diagnose the management of water resources in the state of Amazonas. To achieve this objective, a strategic analysis was performed using two tools: SWOT and PESTEL. To build the SWOT and PESTEL tables, a search was carried out of dissertations posted in institutional repositories of the Amazonas State University and the Federal University of Amazonas. Non-participant observation was also performed at the meetings of the State Water Resources Council in order to gain a better understanding of management. The results achieved showed that the diagnosis is of a water resources management that is still in the initial phase, and which requires improvements in planning to achieve its goals. It was noted that the main bottleneck of management is the non-execution of the instruments of the state water resources policy, since they are the essential elements for it to function fully and strategically. In addition, political management has not prioritized water resources, which generates discontinuity of projects. Finally, it was noticed that the water resources management system has few people that are active in the cause, since little participation by the people who compose it was noted in the meetings of the State Water Resources Council. It is clear then that the system must be strengthened and restructured so that management can achieve its principles and objectives, in addition to seeking to train more people to do so. The aim of this article is to analyze the role of the people in Polybius’s political thought, as presented in Book VI of his Histories. We argue the hypothesis that, according to the Greek author, there is no politics without the people, a conception that remains embodied both in the Polybian cycle of singular regimes and in the proposed model of the Roman mixed constitution. The emergence of what distinguishes what is properly human coincides with the emergence of the conditions of possibility of politics. With these two processes, the multitude transforms into the people. To support these ideas, we must engage with three prevalent readings in the field of critical examination, whose developments go in the opposite direction to the one we propose here: that, due to its aristocratic trait, Polybius assigned a secondary place to the people in his political theory; that anacyclosis holds an exclusive relationship of contrast with the Roman composite regime; and that the theory of the Greek author should be analyzed exclusively in light of historical truth. We present divergent interpretations of these in order to assume the necessary intermediary hypotheses for the grounding of the central argument of the work. The structure of the text involves five parts, in this order: introduction with preliminary presentation of the central hypothesis and the questions that problematize it; theoretical centrality and structure of Book VI; analysis of the cycle of singular regimes; examination of the Roman mixed constitution with emphasis on the role of the people; and response to the questions raised with a view to a grounded reaffirmation of the main hypothesis. In this article, we reflect on the place of indigenous women in the processes of political organisation and rural development of the municipality of Nazareno, located in the inter-Andean Valleys (northwest of the Salta province, Argentina). To achieve this, we present an analysis of these processes from a genealogical and ethnographic perspective, based on two analytical movements: a reexamination of academic antecedents that document multiple programs implemented between 1983 and 2003, and a counterpoint to these readings, with three women's life narratives on these processes, reconstructed within the framework of collaborative ethnographic work. The objective is to analyse the guidelines and practices upon which a discourse around rural women was consolidated, as well as the strategies, appropriations and political demands that the women themselves made of them within the framework of the collective construction of the struggle for the territory. During the 1960s, Foucault conducted his historical-philosophical research under the methodological name of archaeology, using this term to refer to the study of the historical conditions of possibility that allowed for the emergence of various knowledges and institutions. In his book The Order of Things: An Archaeology of the Human Sciences, published in 1966, Foucault focused his descriptive work on the different epochs of thought around the concepts of episteme and historical a priori, both of which were abandoned at least in the Foucauldian vocabulary of the following decade when Foucault began to describe his intellectual work as genealogy. In the intellectual field in Argentina, the reception and circulation of Foucault's work varied greatly from the 1950s to the present day. In recent years, archaeological categories have been used to think about both intellectual history and the diagnosis of contemporary society. In this paper, we will present two updates of Foucault's episteme to think about the tensions between knowledge and politics: the era of "The Forms" by Elías Palti and the postmodern episteme by Pablo Manolo Rodríguez, showing how both expressions reformulate the conceptual apparatus used by Foucault to think about an archaeology of the political in the case of the former, and the historical emergence of cybernetics by analyzing the epistemic changes made in the last fifty years in the case of the latter author. For this task, we will show what is retained from the Foucauldian gesture but also to what extent Argentine authors distance themselves from the thinker from Poitiers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Latin American marxism, understood as a category, phenomena and process hasn’t been studied broadly, despite how fruitful the Marxist tradition has been in our region. It is proposed in the next pages a series of theoretical-methodological approaches and coordinates to push out into its analysis, respecting the analytical plurality and heterogeneity that characterizes it, describing its enunciation origins and development and outlining the essential ingredients that separate it from other approaches giving its specificity within Latin American critical social thought. The purpose of the article is to provide the researcher a basic framework to dive into deeper inquiries that concern the different topics circumscribed to the marxisms in Latin America.
