Background: Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is an effective and safe treatment for achalasia, but often leads to posttreatment gastroesophageal reflux disease. The aim of this study was to examine the incidence and severity of reflux esophagitis after POEM and to identify associated predictive factors. Methods: Patients who underwent POEM between August 2011 and December 2022 were included. Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess predictive factors for reflux esophagitis after POEM. Key Results: In total, 252 patients were included; of which, 46% were female and age ranged between 18 and 87 years. Reflux esophagitis within 1 year after POEM was observed in 131 patients (52%), which was severe in 29 patients (LA grade C/D, 12%). Length of full‐thickness myotomy (cm; OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.02–1.21), Eckardt scores before POEM (OR 0.84, 95% CI 0.74–0.96), previous pneumatic dilation (OR 0.51, 95% CI 0.29–0.91), and previous laparoscopic Heller myotomy (LHM; OR 0.44, 95% CI 0.23–0.86) were associated with reflux esophagitis after POEM. Alcohol use (none vs > 7 units per week; OR 3.51, 95% CI 1.35–9.11) and overweight (BMI ≥25 kg/m2; OR 2.67, 95% CI 1.17–6.09) were positive predictive factors and previous LHM (OR 0.13, 95% CI 0.02–0.95) was a negative predictive factor for severe reflux esophagitis after POEM (LA grade C/D). Conclusion: About half of the patients develop reflux esophagitis after POEM and 12% is graded as severe. Recognizing predictive factors of reflux esophagitis after POEM treatment leads to better patient selection before POEM and provides an opportunity to take preventive measures or start preemptive treatment. This paper advocates for a reading of John Scottus Eriugena's Carmina that situates his collection of poems within the genre of devotional poetry. Although the Carmina has recently benefited from scholarship on Eriugena's theology, typologies of his poems consistently overlook the significance of their theological themes. Most instead attribute more significance to their political themes, since Charles the Bald commissioned many of Eriugena's poems for special occasions at his royal court. This paper argues that a textual analysis which compares the significance of theological and political themes in the Carmina reveals several reasons why Eriugena's poems should be read as devotional poetry. First, it explains how typologies of Eriugena's poems overlook the significance of their theological themes by overstating the significance of Charles and his royal court. In the studies of classical Chinese poetry, the comparison between Li Bai and Du Fu is an everlasting topic, yielding many qualitative interpretations, among which a widely known but disputable one is Li's positivity versus Du's negativity. With the development of digital means, distant reading has become possible, and the sentiment issue can be further explored in quantitative ways. This research conducts a corpus-based sentiment comparison of Li and Du with a self-constructed sentiment dictionary. The Complete Collection of Tang Poems is used as a representative of Tang poets, and sentiment comparisons are made at the levels of poems, verses, and characters, as well as key characters extracted with the log-likelihood measure. Analyses show that (1) among Tang poets, Du is more negative at all of the above textual levels, while Li is only more positive at the key character level, proving the importance of key characters in readers' perception of sentiment; (2) Li and Du both stand out among Tang poets with a negative depiction of the dark reality and a positive expression of grand ideals; and (3) Li's positivity is largely embodied in his depictions of color, light, and temperature, while Du's negativity is closely related to his psychological description. To conclude, this research has not only determined the sentiment difference between Li and Du but also located its sources in texts with a novel key character-based sentiment analysis approach. This article analyzes two recent poetry collections by queer Caribbean writers and probes them for what they can reveal about silence as a combined affective, aesthetic and political strategy. Both Kohnjehr Woman by Ana-Maurine Lara and While They Sleep by Raquel Salas Rivera encourage embodied reading practices that resist traditional literary analysis, understood as focused on achieving "mastery" and intellectual domination of a text, by engaging the reading body queerly and tangentially, and they ask what opportunities are presented by illegibility and untranslatability. I argue that these poems employ silence as a strategy either by creating visual/aural space on the page, refusing translation, or by requiring words to be vocalized in order to be cognitively understood. Following Doris Sommer and Édouard Glissant, this strategic refusal can be understood as a response to the lived experience of disaster within the postcolonial Caribbean and its diaspora that maintains opacity by refusing straightforward legibility, and at the same time allows for a fuller form of solidarity that centers embodied knowledge. In the 1920s, declamadora Berta Singerman was frequently criticized by the Argentine avant-garde because her popular performances never included their poems. Dismissed as an embodiment of cursilería ever since, she was in fact a key component of international poetry circuits who developed relationships with Alfonsina Storni, Federico García Lorca, and Gabriela Mistral, among others. In correspondence with Alejo Carpentier, the Cuban writer counseled her on capturing the dynamics of declamation onscreen, suggesting that she could emphasize the rhythms of her performances through close-ups on her moving hands accompanying the poem--a technique Singerman employed in a 1942 film. No stranger to working across media, Carpentier recognized rhythm as the crucial connection between declamation's two types of corpus: the collection of poems and the body. In conversation with Carpentier's observations, this piece focuses on how rhythm shaped production and reception alike as Singerman attracted large crowds across the Americas. It argues that Singerman, who would call herself the "libertadora de poesía," accented rhythm in her performances so that audiences could make sense of the recited poems--and this process involved not only allowing those poems to be heard and felt but also creating a space for them to perform ideological work. Why does anyone write poetry? Lisel Mueller (1924-2020) was a poet, author, and translator with a long and much-decorated career. She and her family fled Nazi Germany in the 1930s and emigrated to the United States, where she would establish herself as a writer. The poem "When I Am Asked" describes the beginning of her journey into poetry, undertaken during a period of grief after the death of her mother. The proletarian writer H. T. Tsiang worked and lived in the US under the constant threat of deportation since arriving in the country under the Johnson-Reed Act. This article examines a cache of poetry that Tsiang wrote in the Ellis Island detention center from 1940–1941 and mailed to the painter, book illustrator, and author Rockwell Kent. These poems, which are preserved among Kent's papers in the form of a toilet paper manuscript, a make-shift chapbook, and typescript sheafs, were roundly rejected by publishers in Tsiang's time. Yet they speak to his precarious immigration status and his long-term project of constituting proletarian readerships outside US publishing. Tsiang's unpublished poems, I argue, composed a counterpublic of early Chinese American writing that grew from, and responded to, the conditions of exclusion. This work examines the poetry collection Junín (1930) by the Peruvian author Enrique Bustamante y Ballivián (1883–1937). While a part of the Latin American avant-garde expresses a fascination with the rise of new machines in the metropolis, this article demonstrates that Bustamante y Ballivián responds to this trend by representing machinery of a different kind – extractivist machinery – in a different type of space: the Andes. The author also engages with the indigenista avant-garde poetic proposals of his Peruvian contemporaries. Unlike them, the poet does not aim to give voice to the indigenous subject, nor does he idealize or solely link it to nature. Instead, he portrays it as 'coupled' to the mineral extraction machinery. Additionally, the poet depicts this machinery as invasive, contaminating and destructive to the landscape and its inhabitants. The poetic heritage of the Negev Bedouin is rich and varied. Particularly captivating are their political verses, which are as old as the nomads themselves. The collection of poems recorded by Sasson Bar-Zvi, former officer of the military government, includes many political verses composed in the 20th century through which runs an unmistakable strand of protest and rebuke. This article seeks to examine the moment when a note of criticism first made an appearance in the political poetry of the Negev Bedouin. We will try to characterize the period in which this note appeared and the historical processes that led to its emergence. We will focus on the growing involvement of the Ottomans in the second half of the 19th century in the internal struggles of the Bedouin, an involvement that eventually led to the founding of a city at the border between the three major Bedouin confederations inhabiting the Negev at that time. At the centre of this study lies the poem that we identify—for now at least—as the first poem of criticism; we will analyse it and the information we have about it, then formulate hypotheses regarding the date, motivations, and circumstances of its composition. In this article I explore Mona Kareem's visionary feminism in her trilingual poetry collection Ināth al-Ashbāḥ (Femme Ghosts) (2019). I intervene in the classist colonial logic embraced by contemporary liberal feminism in Kuwait by offering a critical alternative in Kareem's poetics of the body. The article examines Kareem's engagement with the gendered, classed, and racialized body as a site of knowledge production that proves illegible to the oil-producing state. It argues that Kareem expresses a "spectral archive" from the embodied knowledge of marginalization in her poems "Eulogies for Futures to Come/Marthiyāt al-'uyūn" ("Who Hide Their Eyes"). The spectral archive is a haunting literary site of knowledge which exposes the violence of systemic oppression and exceeds nativist narratives of subjectivity constructed by official national history. It emerges in her deployment of the speculative, emphasis on the tension between the corporeal and the spectral, experimentation with poetic form and translation practices, and positing queerness as a liminal process of detaching normative gender from sex assigned at birth. The spectral archive underscores the failure of sovereign standards of subjectivity to grasp the role of feminist poetics in creating transformative imaginaries, it represents a new ethical approach to feminist discourse on social justice in Kuwait. Benjamin Bragge and Edmund Curll published one of the most popular poetry collections of the eighteenth century: The Miscellaneous Works of the Right Honourable the late Earls of Rochester and Roscommon. Originally produced by Bragge in 1706, then reissued the following year under Curll's imprint, its first part initiated what David Vieth termed the C series of Rochester's collected poems that enjoyed at least 25 iterations until c. 1798. The inaccuracy of the title—no place was found for Rochester's play Valentinian , his letters, his lyrics or the Alexander Bendo advertisement—was compounded not only by the absence of any texts scholars now perceive to be authoritative but by incorrect attributions for three-quarters of its predominantly libertine and satiric matter, the majority of which, surprisingly, had already been printed under Rochester's name. Curll published two further editions which continued Bragge's emphasis and increased the publications' attraction for the unsophisticated reader. From 1718 the miscellany was published anonymously, perhaps initially under Curll's direction, and the now settled contents formed the basis on which Rochester's poetry was understood and appreciated. Despite Vieth's accurate definition of the canon in 1968, the record of the Bragge-Curll misattributions continues to impede an accurate public perception of Rochester's poetic achievement. St Boniface, the eighth-century scholar, missionary, and eventual martyr, is generally characterized as an important historical figure but a bad poet. In part it is because his verse is so strongly marked by direct borrowings from Aldhelm that it is easy to assume he did not possess the creativity or ability to write for himself. Here, we seek to rehabilitate Boniface's collection of Latin riddles about the personified Virtues and Vices, engaging especially with Humilitas Cristiana ('Christian Humility'), Virginitas ... humilium ('Virginity of the Humble'), Superbia ('Pride'), and Vana gloria iactantia ('Vainglorious Boasting'). We examine Boniface's riddles through the lens of fan studies, arguing that fandom and fan fiction provide insights into group-identity formation and gift-giving that reframe Boniface's debt to Aldhelm, as well as his entire creative project. Like a writer of fan fiction, Boniface creates new characters based on his reading of Aldhelm's De virginitate ('Concerning Virginity') and, through them, he develops Aldhelm's warning against taking pride in virtue. However, Boniface's riddle-subjects speak an encoded message that only a true fan of Aldhelm could appreciate. This research paper discussed the historical overviews of Prose Poetry in Oman, also deals with Issa’s poetic experience, specifically his two recent poetry collections “Strangers as We Came”, and “Blue Lightning in a Distant Sky”. He is also considered one of the most prominent contemporary poets who represent the prose poets in Oman. Current paper covered several topics: An introduction to the Omani prose poem, and Sama Issa as an example of the prose poem in Oman and one of its early pioneers. The paper includes a written testimony by the poet Sama Issa, in which he talks about his poetic experience. The study concluded that the poetic experience of the prose poem in Oman extended and developed through the pioneer poets, as well as the poets of the new generation, on both the quantitative and artistic levels. Bodleian Library, MS Rawl. poet. 85 (Ra), and Marsh's Library, Dublin, MS Z 3.5.21 (Ma), are two of the most important anthologies of Elizabethan lyric poetry. We have long known that Ra was compiled at St. John's College, Cambridge, apparently by John Finet. He credits his fellow Johnian, James Reshoulde, with two poems in Ra, one of which is answered by a poem in Ma. Reshoulde is not named in Ma, but the discovery of his handwriting in this miscellany confirms that it, too, was compiled at St. John's and drew upon a common store of in-house and external writings, including poems written by courtiers at the apogee of Elizabethan society. The relationships among these elite texts shed important new light on how lyric poetry circulated in the age's scribal culture and how these practices exerted a democratizing influence on what is generally considered a culture of exclusive coteries. Kazakh zhyrau poets have a special socio-political and religious-ideological place in humanitarian science. As the main ideologists of Kazakh society, they criticized and sometimes went against the policy of Khans. This is especially noticeable in XVIII century political figure Bukhar Zhyrau works, who was a batyr (hero) and fought against the Dzungarian invasion. Bukhar Zhyrau's work clearly shows his Islamic deep knowledge and nomadic civilization, which stood at the crossroads of the Russian Empire colonial policy. Strongly worrying about the Kazakh people fate and called for national self-identification struggle, as well as in parallel in his works mentioning the Creator in different hypostases (Allah, Kudai, Tanir) revealed the features of the Kazakhs social order. Subsequently, the relevance of the chosen topic can be clear, as Kazakh traditional Islam is not yet fully studied and requires a special approach. Therefore, the object of the study was chosen Bukhar Zhyrau poetry, where he reveals the features and differences of Kazakh traditional Islam, as well as the philosophy of the time. Thereon, the relevance of the chosen topic can be said clearly, as Kazakh traditional Islam is not yet fully studied and requires a special approach. This essay asks whether poetry can articulate the experience of maternal loss, paying particular attention to questions of form. Focusing on two British poetry collections, Rebecca Goss's Her Birth (2013) and Karen McCarthy Woolf's An Aviary of Small Birds (2014), I argue that the contemporary elegy is currently being reshaped to explore the grief of losing a baby, and to bear witness to a life briefly lived. Seyyid Nesimi is an artist lived in 14th century and gained appreciation in all times and all Turkish world. Şeyhi on the other hand, is a pioneer poet of classical Turkish poetry, lived in 15th century. At this point, it is remarkable that one of two ghazel with "-sı yoh" redif attributed to Nesimi and located in edition critique of his Divan, is also available as exactly the same poem in Divan of Şeyhi. Coinciding the lifetimes of two poets with the same time period is also important related to linguistic features of the aforementioned poem by since dispositions dependent upon the era are possible to be similar on a large scale. Moreover, although the poets belong to different regions of Turkish Literature they do not have distinctive differences in the usage of Turkish. In this study, firstly Divans of both poets are to be examined by taking the version differences into consideration to understand whether there are two different poems resembling each other or there is only one poem and if so, evaluations on identifying the poet of poem will be realised. This article presents a mediacentric reading of the autobiographical-lyric (auto-lyric) sound structures of Ted Hughes's 1998 poetry collection Birthday Letters, which broke his decades-long silence on the controversies surrounding his life with and after Sylvia Plath. It explores how Hughes's poems of bereavement adapt the media logics of film, tape, record, and radio not only to understand trauma's complex psychology but also to textually remediate his lost connection with his beloved dead. French astrophysicist Jean-Claude Pecker, who passed away in early 2020, left behind a rich body of work that reflects his active engagement with areas beyond the scientific, among them the visual arts, social activism, and poetry. This paper follows Pecker as he grapples with the loss of his parents in the Holocaust and articulates the impact of this loss on his life and work. My discussion draws primarily on Pecker's poetry collections Galets poétiques and Lamento 1944-1994, with occasional references to other writings, among them a provisional draft of the opening chapter from Pecker's memoir and letters recounting his family history. Allusions to Pecker's Jewish heritage are absent from the poetry collections yet are prominently present in other writings in the context of antisemitism as the core of his "feeling Jewish" on the one hand and the rejection of Judaism among all other religions on the other. Reflecting on the violence that afflicted his life during the war years and admitting his deep pessimism regarding the future of both humanity and the environment, the elderly Pecker conveys in his writings a sense of diminished agency both in his own life and in that of the sun, the celestial body broadly considered a mainstay of his scientific work. Contextualizing Pecker among his peers, I suggest that while the themes of deportation and death figure centrally in the poems, Pecker is less in conversation with Holocaust poetry or poets and more in dialogue with a group of French artist-friends, united in the knowledge of nature's timeless beauty and in the recognition of the presence within humanity of love, friendship, and the unlimited capacity for inflicting harm and great pain. This research applied a feminist geographical framework to analyze the significance of Kentucky in bell hooks' Black feminist theorization. Utilizing narrative inquiry and the constant comparative method to analyze her memoir, Bone Black , poetry collection, Appalachian Elegy , and a collection of essays called Belonging , the findings illuminate the conditions, interactions, and consequences of homemaking for the politics of location. These findings reveal the process of becoming a subject, suggest a feminist geographic approach as an alternative to more abstract understandings of margin and center, and provide a more nuanced understanding of the significance of movement and stillness in knowledge production. This paper addresses the unique challenges a translator would have when translating a text from a postcolonial country, especially one that has significance amongst the language speakers, such as Cilapattikaram. This paper compares three English translations of Cilapattikaram, a centuries-old Tamil poem that has an undeniable significance among the Tamil-speaking population. By analyzing three English translations of Cilapattikaram, done in the 1930s, 1960s, and 1990s, respectively, the paper examines how translation situated in the political space of decolonization and regional identity affects the text for a better understanding of the dilemmas of the translator and the effect of translation has on the meanings of the text. This article examines poems of the young Black writer Upile Chisala selected from her three poetry collections, soft magic (2019), nectar (2019), and a fire like you (2020). The poet advances an ethic of self-care-driven by the simultaneous needs for deliberate selfishness and sisterhood-directed at Black women in Africa and the diaspora as the first step towards their mental, physical, and social well-being. Adopting the notion of self-care as advanced by a number of Black feminist scholars, the article examines the way Chisala tackles the topic through a three-pronged trajectory, emphasizing deliberate love of the self, the rejection of toxic relationships, and Black women's (Te)discovery of their voice. Mina Loy's "Feminist Manifesto" was written in 1914, around the time of the modernist revolution in poetry in the United States. She penned this aggressively toned piece to open women's eyes to their place under the patriarchy and steps they should take, however drastic, to fight against its influence on their lives. Her work was unpublished during her lifetime, as it was intended merely as a letter to fellow writer Mabel Dodge Luhan. However, after its eventual publication in The Lost Lunar Baedeker, a collection of her poems, this fiery work was available to all. This paper will analyze the literary elements of tone, diction, and form found in the "Manifesto," as well as their effect. This article analyses the first major anthology of English-language British LatinX writers published in the UK, Un Nuevo Sol. British LatinX Writers (flipped eye publishing, 2019). The texts included in this anthology of poetry, short fiction and drama explore the configurations, manifestations and representations of the LatinX experience within the contemporary British canon. The multi-layered texts that form this book illustrate how the British LatinX community represents itself through literature in a distinctive way which also questions existing stereotypes and expectations. Un Nuevo Sol is a good example of the diversity of the literary techniques used by British LatinX authors. These techniques cover from code-switching to magical realism, although realism and experimental writing seem to dominate most of these texts. This is representative of the way in which the literary production of this super-diverse community in the UK results in a super-diverse literary style, as illustrated in this anthology.
