Fiber‐reinforced composites have emerged as versatile materials with applications spanning diverse industries, driven by their exceptional mechanical properties and lightweight nature. This review provides a comprehensive overview of natural fiber‐reinforced composites, focusing on their enhanced mechanical and functional properties achieved through modern processing techniques. The study delves into various manufacturing methods, such as thermoforming, additive manufacturing, compression molding, electro‐spinning, pultrusion and autoclave molding, which have significantly contributed to the advancement of these composites. The review further investigates the multifaceted properties of these composites, which highlights the versatility and applicability of these materials and provides a holistic understanding of their potential applications. Additionally, the work addresses current research gaps and identifies prospects, shedding light on the evolving landscape of natural fiber‐reinforced composites. Highlights Continuous plant yarn‐reinforced polylactic acid (PLA) composites were produced through in situ 3D printing, focusing on how plant fiber attributes influence the crystallization, mechanical, and rheological properties of the printed composites. The aim of this study was to assess the viability of plant fibers as substitutes for synthetic ones in engineering additive manufacturing. Plant fibers promoted the crystallization of PLA due to their shear induction and nucleation agent induction effects. The inherent triangular void defect during printing decreased with increasing plant fiber‐volume fraction. Rheological analysis revealed a transition to more elastic behavior post‐fiber addition, indicating solid‐like properties. The tensile strength of flax fiber‐yarn/PLA composite (volume fraction of 50.79%) was 342.37% higher than that of pure PLA, with a 22.2% lower density than pure PLA. Flax fiber demonstrated a superior reinforcement effect than carbon fiber in compressive strength for 3D printed honeycomb sheets with lower energy consumption and footprint. Optimizing fiber characteristics holds promise for high‐performance 3D‐printed natural fiber composites, particularly in vehicle applications. Plant fiber/polylactic acid (PLA) composites were in situ printed with a volume fraction of 50.79%. Plant fibers promoted the crystallization of PLA during the printing process. Perovskite light‐emitting diodes (PeLEDs) that can be air‐processed promises the development of displaying optoelectronic device, while is challenged by technical difficulty on both the active layer and hole transport layer (HTL) caused by the unavoidable humidity interference. Here, we propose and validate that, planting the polymer brush with tailored functional groups in inorganic HTL, provides unique bilateral embedded anchoring that is capable of simultaneously addressing the n phases crystallization rates in the active layer as well as the deteriorated particulate surface defects in HTL. Exemplified by zwitterionic polyethyleneimine‐sulfonate (PEIS) in present study, its implanting in NiOx HTL offers abundant nuclei sites of amino and sulfonate groups that balance the growth rate of different n phases in quasi‐2D perovskite films. Moreover, the PEIS effectively nailed the interfacial contact between perovskite and NiOx, and reduced the particulate surface defects in HTL, leading to the enhanced PLQY and stability of large‐area blue perovskite film in ambient air. By virtue of these merits, present work achieves the first demonstration of the air‐processed blue PeLEDs in large emitting area of 1.0 cm2 with peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 2.09 %, which is comparable to the similar pure‐bromide blue PeLEDs fabricated in glovebox. Burn wounds are associated with infections, drug resistance, allergic reactions, odour, bleeding, excess exudates, and scars, requiring prolonged hospital stay. It is crucial to develop wound dressings that can effectively combat allergic reactions and drug resistance, inhibit infections, and absorb excess exudates to accelerate wound healing. To overcome the above-mentioned problems associated with burn wounds, SA/PVA/PLGA/Capparis sepiaria and SA/PVA/Capparis sepiaria nanofibers incorporated with Capparis sepiaria plant extract were prepared using an electrospinning technique. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the successful incorporation of the extract into the nanofibers without any interaction between the extract and the polymers. The nanofibers displayed porous morphology and a rough surface suitable for cellular adhesion and proliferation. SA/PVA/PLGA/Capparis sepiaria and SA/PVA/Capparis sepiaria nanofibers demonstrated significant antibacterial effects against wound infection-associated bacterial strains: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Mycobaterium smegmatis, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Proteus vulgaris, and Staphylococcus aureus. Cytocompatibility studies using HaCaT cells revealed the non-toxicity of the nanofibers. SA/PVA/PLGA/Capparis sepiaria and SA/PVA/Capparis sepiaria nanofibers exhibited hemostatic properties, resulting from the synergistic effect of the plant extract and polymers. The in vitro scratch wound healing assay showed that the SA/PVA/Capparis sepiaria nanofiber wound-healing capability is more than the plant extract and a commercially available wound dressing. The wound-healing potential of SA/PVA/Capparis sepiaria nanofiber is attributed to the synergistic effect of the phytochemicals present in the extract, their porosity, and the ECM-mimicking structure of the nanofibers. Simple Summary: The domesticated carmine cochineal produces pigments used in food, cosmetics, and the textile industry. Its use dates to the pre-Hispanic period and thus is an Amerindian legacy. Cochineals grow and feed on the edible leaves of cacti. Since insects feed on plant sap, they may obtain their microbes from the plants and indeed we found here that some of the fungi in the insect guts are the same as those encountered in cacti. Fungi may help in digestion as they are capable of breaking down plant polymers in cultures and inside guts. We found fungi inside cochineals during microscopic examinations using different procedures to detect fungi. One of the isolated fungi produces a purple pigment that resembles the carminic acid. This study identified several potential functions of cochineal fungi and examined their plant origin. The cochineal insect Dactylopius coccus Costa (Hemiptera) has cultural and economic value because it produces carminic acid that is used commercially. In this study, distinct fungi were cultured from dissected tissue and identified as Penicillium, Coniochaeta, Arthrinium, Cladosporium, Microascus, Aspergillus, and Periconia. Fungi were microscopically observed inside cochineals in the gut, fat body, and ovaries. Since cochineals spend their lives attached to cactus leaves and use the sap as feed, they can obtain fungi from cacti plants. Indeed, we obtained Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Cladosporium fungi from cacti that were identical to those inside cochineals, supporting their plant origin. Fungi could be responsible for the degrading activities in the insect guts, since cellulase, pectinase, and amylase enzymatic activities in insect guts decreased in fungicide-treated cochineals. In recent years, numerous researchers have incorporated plant fibers into polymers to alter the thermal and mechanical properties of materials. Grapevines, considered agricultural waste, have led to burdens for farmers and environmental challenges due to their mass production. This study aims to reduce the brittleness of polylactic acid (PLA) by adding polybutylene succinate (PBS) as a toughening agent and employing grapevine fiber (GVF) as a biomass filler. Additionally, the influence of GVF, toughening agents, compatibilizers, and lubrication agents on the tensile strength, heat deflection temperature (HDT), and impact strength of the composites was examined. The findings revealed that the addition of 10% GVF and 5% PBS increased the impact and tensile strengths of PLA from 17.47 J/m and 49.74 MPa to 29.7 J/m and 54.46 MPa, respectively. Moreover, the HDT of the composites exceeded 120 °C when the GVF content was more than 40 wt%. Additionally, the inclusion of a compatibilizer and a lubrication agent enabled the composite containing 30% GVF to achieve tensile and impact strengths of 45.30 MPa and 25.52 J/m, respectively. Sewage water is extensively used for irrigation, serving as a valuable resource for plant growth to enhance agricultural productivity. However, this practice also results in a significant accumulation of heavy metals in the soil, posing potential environmental and health risks. A study was designed to evaluate the combined effect of amendments on heavy metal immobilization in soil and improved growth and yield in pea plants. For this, the soil for each treatment was mixed with biochar (BC) (1% w/w), polyacrylamide (PAM) (0.5% w/w), and also applied in combination. Pea plants were irrigated with tap water (TW), sewage water (SW), and tap + sewage water (TW + SW). A factorial design was applied to analyze data statistically. The combined application of the biochar and polymer showed a positive response by significantly enhancing the plant growth parameters (39%-84%), physiological attributes (67%-69%), and reducing Cd (56%) and Cr (65%) concentration in soil applied with SW and TW + SW. Moreover, treatment with a combined application of BC and PAM significantly reduced Cd concentrations by 43% in roots, 50% in shoots, and 91% in grains. Similarly, Cr concentrations were reduced by 51% in roots, 51% in shoots, and 94% in grains compared to the control. Overall, the study results indicate reduced bioaccumulation and health risks associated with potentially toxic elements (PTEs), supporting the application of the polymer and biochar for irrigating pea plants with TW + SW. Leveraging the combined benefits of polymer and biochar amendments appears to be an effective strategy to remediate PTE-contaminated soil, thereby increasing plant growth and yield. Chemical treatments are used to remove hydrophilic OH groups and surface particles from the fiber surface for increasing aspect ratio of fibers and subsequently, mechanical properties. In this paper, the effect of two eco‐friendly chemical treatments on morphology, chemical structure, and thermal stability of Agave Americana fibers (AAFs) is investigated. The first chemical treatment of AAF is based on citric acid (C6H8O7) to substitute OH groups contained in AAF by ester groups, while the second one involves sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) to remove the lignin and hemicellulose components with the aim to promote good fiber‐matrix adhesion. Attenuated total reflectance‐Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR) data shows that both treatments are efficient to remove hemicelluloses and a part of lignin contained in AAF resulting in a rough and clean fiber surface. Thermal stability of AAF has clearly increased by NaHCO3 treatment compared to untreated one, unlike C6H8O7, which reduces this property. The study highlights the possibility of substituting conventional polluting chemical treatments with environmentally friendly ones to modify the surface of plant fibers for polymer composites reinforcement. The development of dressings based on electrospun membranes with polymers and plant extracts is an interesting approach to skin regeneration, providing elements to prevent contamination and a matrix that accelerates the healing process. We developed a membrane composed of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), gel and Aloe vera peel extract via the electrospinning technique. Additionally, an optimal ratio of PVP/Av gel/Av skin extract was determined to facilitate membrane formation. Electrospun membranes were obtained with fiber diameters of 1403 ± 57.4 nm for the PVP and 189.2 ± 11.4 nm for PVP/Av gel/Av peel extract, confirming that the use of extracts generally reduced the fiber diameter. The incorporation of gel and peel extract of Aloe vera into the electrospun membrane was analyzed via FTIR and UV–Vis spectroscopies. FTIR revealed the presence of functional groups associated with phenolic compounds such as aloin, aloe-emodin, emodin and aloesin, which was confirmed by UV–Vis, revealing absorption bands corresponding to aloin, phenols and carbonyl groups. This finding provides evidence of the effective integration and prevalence of bioactive compounds of a phenolic and polysaccharide nature from the gel and the Av skin extract in the electrospun fibers, resulting in an advanced membrane that could improve and accelerate the healing process and protect the wound from bacterial infections. Background: Propionate is a food preservative and platform chemical, but no biological process competes with current petrochemical production routes yet. Although propionate production has been described for gut bacteria of the class Bacteroidia, which also carry great capacity for the degradation of plant polymers, knowledge on propionate yields and productivities across species is scarce. This study aims to compare propionate production from glucose within Bacteroidia and characterize good propionate producers among this group. Results: We collected published information on propionate producing Bacteroidia, and selected ten species to be further examined. These species were grown under defined conditions to compare their product formation. While propionate, acetate, succinate, lactate and formate were produced, the product ratios varied greatly among the species. The two species with highest propionate yield, B. propionicifaciens (0.39 gpro/ggluc) and B. graminisolvens (0.25 gpro/ggluc), were further examined. Product formation and growth behavior differed significantly during CO2-limited growth and in resting cells experiments, as only B. graminisolvens depended on external-added NaHCO3, while their genome sequences only revealed few differences in the major catabolic pathways. Carbon mass and electron balances in experiments with resting cells were closed under the assumption that the oxidative pentose pathway was utilized for glucose oxidation next to glycolysis in B. graminisolvens. Finally, during pH-controlled fed-batch cultivation B. propionicifaciens and B. graminisolvens grew up to cell densities (OD600) of 8.1 and 9.8, and produced 119 mM and 33 mM of propionate from 130 and 105 mM glucose, respectively. A significant production of other acids, particularly lactate (25 mM), was observed in B. graminisolvens only. Conclusions: We obtained the first broad overview and comparison of propionate production in Bacteroidia strains. A closer look at two species with comparably high propionate yields, showed significant differences in their physiology. Further studies may reveal the molecular basis for high propionate yields in Bacteroidia, paving the road towards their biotechnological application for conversion of biomass-derived sugars to propionate. The zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using Brassia actinophylla (B. actinophylla)flower extract. The ZnO nanoparticles were introduced into TDA hydrogel (T-tartaric acid, D-diethylene glycol, A-acrylic acid) to form the TDA-ZnO nanocomposite. The UV-peak was observed at 280 nm and the FT-IR peak was obtained at 685 cm-1 confirming the presence of nanoparticles in the hydrogel. The nanoparticle's size was confirmed by TEM and SEM analysis. To enhance the ecological properties of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products, the fabrication of PVC-based composites using biofillers with acceptable performance characteristics could be considered. In this work, plant-filled PVC-based composite materials were fabricated and their optical, structural, thermal, and mechanical properties, depending on the nature of the filler, were studied. Spruce flour, birch flour, and rice husk were used as fillers. Optical measurements showed the selected technological parameters, allowing films with a uniform distribution of dispersed plant filler in the polymer matrix to be obtained. Using the plant fillers in PVC films leads to a reduction in strength characteristics; for instance, the tensile strength changed from 18.0 MPa (for pure PVC film) to ~7 MPa (for composites with 20 wt.% of fillers), and to ~5–6.2 MPa (for composites with 40 wt.% of fillers). Thermal investigations showed that the samples with plant fillers could be used at low temperatures without changing their operating characteristics. Thus, plant-filled PVC-based composite materials have a wide operating temperature range, from—65 °C to 150 °C. TGA analysis has demonstrated that the rice husk affected the thermal stability of the composites by increasing their thermal decomposition resistance. The ability to absorb water was observed during the investigation of water absorption of the samples. And the highest degree of water absorption (up to 160 mg/g) was detected for the sample with 40 wt.% of rice husk. In general, plant-filled polymer composites based on PVC can be used on an equal basis with unfilled PVC plastic compounds for some applications such as in construction (for example, for design tasks). SUMMARY: Plant cell walls are essential for defining plant growth and development, providing structural support to the main body and responding to abiotic and biotic cues. Cellulose, the main structural polymer of plant cell walls, is synthesized at the plasma membrane by cellulose synthase complexes (CSCs). The construction and transport of CSCs to and from the plasma membrane is poorly understood but is known to rely on the coordinated activity of cellulose synthase‐interactive protein 1 (CSI1), a key regulator of CSC trafficking. In this study, we found that Trs85, a TRAPPIII complex subunit, interacted with CSI1 in vitro. Using functional genetics and live‐cell imaging, we have shown that trs85‐1 mutants have reduced cellulose content, stimulated CSC delivery, an increased population of static CSCs and deficient clathrin‐mediated endocytosis in the primary cell wall. Overall, our findings suggest that Trs85 has a dual role in the trafficking of CSCs, by negatively regulating the exocytosis and clathrin‐mediated endocytosis of CSCs. Significance Statement: The synthesis of cellulose requires the transportation of cellulose synthase complexes (CSCs) to and from the plasma membrane. Lignin is an abundant phenolic polymer present in plant cell walls that aids water transport and plays crucial roles in protecting plants from environmental stresses. There is a growing interest in lignin as a potential source of sustainable bioproducts, including bioplastics, chemicals, carbon materials, and biofuels. The aim of modeling lignin metabolism is to predict the dynamics of lignin synthesis to facilitate plant genetic engineering strategies and ultimately improved lignin utilization. Recurring challenges associated with this goal are the lack of an integrated understanding of the lignin biosynthetic network and acquiring reliable metabolic data with cellular and subcellular resolution. While genome-scale metabolic models have been developed in microbial systems, their use in plants remains challenging due to their compartmentalized metabolism and cross-communication between organelles. Plant biomass contains lignin that can be converted into high-value-added chemicals, fuels, and materials. The precise genetic manipulation of lignin content and composition in plant cells offers substantial environmental and economic benefits. However, the intricate regulatory mechanisms governing lignin formation challenge the development of crops with specific lignin profiles. Mathematical models and computational simulations have recently been employed to gain fundamental understanding of the metabolism of lignin and related phenolic compounds. This review article discusses the strategies used for modeling plant metabolic networks, focusing on the application of mathematical modeling for flux network analysis in monolignol biosynthesis. Proanthocyanidins (PAs), one of the most abundant natural polymers found in plants, are gaining increasing attention because of their beneficial effects for agriculture and human health. The study of PA biosynthesis has been active for decades, and progress has been drastically accelerated since the discovery of key enzymes such as Anthocyanidin Reductase (ANR), Leucoanthocyanidin Reductase (LAR), and key transcription factors such as Transparent Testa 2 (TT2) and Transparent Testa 8 (TT8) in the early 2000s. Scientists raised some compelling questions regarding PA biosynthesis about two decades ago in the hope that addressing these questions would lead to an enhanced understanding of PA biosynthesis in plants. These questions focus on the nature of starter and extension units for PA biosynthesis, the stereochemistry of PA monomers and intermediates, and how and where the polymerization or condensation steps work subcellularly. Here, I revisit these long-standing questions and provide an update on progress made toward answering them. Because of advanced technologies in genomics, bioinformatics and metabolomics, we now have a much-improved understanding of functionalities of key enzymes and identities of key intermediates in the PA biosynthesis and polymerization pathway. Still, several questions, particularly the ones related to intracellular PA transportation and deposition, as well as enzyme subcellular localization, largely remain to be explored. Our increasing understanding of PA biosynthesis in various plant species has led to a new set of compelling open questions, suggesting future research directions to gain a more comprehensive understanding of PA biosynthesis. Solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (ssNMR) measurements of intact cell walls and cellular samples often generate spectra that are difficult to interpret due to the presence of many coexisting glycans and the structural polymorphism observed in native conditions. To overcome this analytical challenge, we present a statistical approach for analyzing carbohydrate signals using high‐resolution ssNMR data indexed in a carbohydrate database. We generate simulated spectra to demonstrate the chemical shift dispersion and compare this with experimental data to facilitate the identification of important fungal and plant polysaccharides, such as chitin and glucans in fungi and cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectic polymers in plants. We also demonstrate that chemically distinct carbohydrates from different organisms may produce almost identical signals, highlighting the need for high‐resolution spectra and validation of resonance assignments. Our study provides a means to differentiate the characteristic signals of major carbohydrates and allows us to summarize currently undetected polysaccharides in plants and fungi, which may inspire future investigations. Natural fibres are biodegradable materials that contribute to the development of a "green" economy due to their numerous merits such as energy efficiency, ease of manufacturing, environmental friendliness, low cost, sustainability, and biodegradability. Natural fibres have lately become more appealing to technology and innovation as substitute materials for synthetic fibre-based composites due to these qualities. Several projects have also been undertaken to reveal the potential applications, economic and environmental benefits of natural fibres sourced from plants for polymer reinforcements. Among the commonly used fibres are banana and sisal fibres which form part of the reasons for their selection in this review. The justification for this is the environmental concerns in the modern days which have increased the demand for natural materials as suitable alternatives for synthetic reinforcements. Wound dressings developed by combining plant extracts with polymers have made a great progress in wound care treatment. One plant with remarkable healing properties is Phyllanthus emblica Linn (P. emblica), which is described as having potent antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti‐inflammatory properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate the biocompatibility of P. emblica‐loaded polyvinyl alcohol/gelatin‐based cryogels (PVA/Gel/P.emblica) through cytotoxicity and proliferation tests in HaCaT cells and examine their potential in wound dressing applications. Accordingly, PVA/Gel/P.emblica cryogels are successfully synthesized and characterization studies and in vitro cell culture studies are performed. The swelling tests and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis results show that swelling and surface area properties of cryogels increase with increasing P. emblica amounts. Morphological results display that the cryogels have a dense, interconnected pore morphology and a macroporous structure. 3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyltetrazolium bromide, trypan blue exclusion, and live–dead assay results reveal that P. emblica enhances cell proliferation, increases cell number, and improves cell viability. Based on the scanning electron microscope, immunofluorescence, and Giemsa staining images, it is observed that P. emblica promotes cell attachment, proliferation, and penetration. Emergent strategies to valorize lignin, an abundant but underutilized aromatic biopolymer, include tandem processes that integrate chemical depolymerization and biological catalysis. To date, aromatic monomers from C–O bond cleavage of lignin have been converted to bioproducts, but the presence of recalcitrant C–C bonds in lignin limits the product yield. A promising chemocatalytic strategy that overcomes this limitation involves phenol methyl protection and autoxidation. Incorporating this into a tandem process requires microbial cell factories able to transform the p-methoxylated products in the resulting methylated lignin stream. In this study, we assessed the ability of Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 to catabolize the major aromatic products in a methylated lignin stream and elucidated the pathways responsible for this catabolism. RHA1 grew on a methylated pine lignin stream, catabolizing the major aromatic monomers: p-methoxybenzoate (p-MBA), veratrate, and veratraldehyde. Bioinformatic analyses suggested that a cytochrome P450, PbdA, and its cognate reductase, PbdB, are involved in p-MBA catabolism. Gene deletion studies established that both pbdA and pbdB are essential for growth on p-MBA and several derivatives. Furthermore, a deletion mutant of a candidate p-hydroxybenzoate (p-HBA) hydroxylase, ΔpobA, did not grow on p-HBA. Veratraldehyde and veratrate catabolism required both vanillin dehydrogenase (Vdh) and vanillate O-demethylase (VanAB), revealing previously unknown roles of these enzymes. This study expands our understanding of the bacterial catabolism of aromatic compounds and facilitates the development of biocatalysts for lignin valorization. IMPORTANCE Lignin, an abundant aromatic polymer found in plant biomass, is a promising renewable replacement for fossil fuels as a feedstock for the chemical industry. Strategies for upgrading lignin include processes that couple the catalytic fractionation of biomass and biocatalytic transformation of the resulting aromatic compounds with a microbial cell factory. Engineering microbial cell factories for this biocatalysis requires characterization of bacterial pathways involved in catabolizing lignin-derived aromatic compounds. This study identifies new pathways for lignin-derived aromatic degradation in Rhodococcus, a genus of bacteria well suited for biocatalysis. Malleable thermosets as dynamic covalent cross‐linked polymers, simultaneously possessing the advantages of thermosets and thermoplastics, have attracted considerable attention. Although several reprocessing concepts have been demonstrated, the fabrication of fast‐curing bio‐based strong and tough malleable thermosets for advanced applications in electronics remains a great challenge. Herein, a novel construction strategy of combining hindered urea bonds (HUB) and radical polymerization is developed to prepare fast‐photocurable and mechanically robust cellulose‐based malleable bio‐thermosets (CMTs). In this strategy, the functional cellulose macromonomer simultaneously has acrylate groups and HUB is first synthesized and employed as a macro‐crosslinker to react with plant oil‐based monomer to construct the malleable bio‐thermosets with "soft (plant oil‐based polymer)" and "hard (rigid cellulose)" phase architecture through the fast photocuring. The CMTs exhibit excellent flexibility and high toughness (2.89 MJ m−3), and the introduction of dynamic HUB endows the CMTs with excellent malleability and reprocessability by heating compression molding or solvent regeneration, the recovery efficiency reached 94.7%. More impressively, the CMTs can be used as substrates to fabricate CMTs/silver composite for anti‐icing or de‐icing devices, and CMTs‐based capacitive sensors for monitoring environmental humidity or human health. Trauma, burns, and chronic illnesses cause non-healing wounds or defective healing, leading to scar formation due to excessive fibrosis, disordered collagen, and hyperpigmentation. The conventional single layered gauze dressings and composite dressings have limited advantages. Therefore, the advanced green alternative dressings need to be explored for non-toxic antibacterial and fast wound healing process. The present study focuses on the development of highly compatible PLA-PHBV bilayer electrospun (ES) membrane dressings. The membranes were surface-functionalized/coated with chitosan polymer and pure plant extracts (bearberry leaf extract) (BE) and (licorice root extract) (LE). The presence of flavonoids and terpenoids in the extracts was confirmed using FTIR and GC–MS analyses. The coated ES bilayer membranes were characterized using SEM, contact angle measurements, drug release profile, antibacterial analysis, biocompatibility, and wound healing assays. The results suggest that coated ES membranes are hydrophilic and can carry and release the extracts in a dose-dependent manner. These characteristics increased the regenerative potential of ES membranes as shown by in vitro cell cultures and significantly activated wound healing studied by in vitro fibroblast cultures compared to the non-coated control ES bilayer membranes. Moreover, the modified membranes had antibacterial potential as studied utilizing S. aureus and E. coli bacteria. These bilayer ES membranes carrying plant extracts can be used to heal and regenerate lost tissues in various applications, and may also be effective against hyperpigmentation during healing. Reducing energy consumption and minimizing environmental impacts have been significant factors in expanding the applicability of plant fiber-reinforced composites across a variety of industries. Plant fibers have major advantages over synthetic fibers, including biodegradability, light weight, low cost, non-abrasiveness, and acceptable mechanical properties. However, the inherent plant fiber properties, such as varying fiber quality, low mechanical properties, moisture content, poor impact strengths, a lack of integration with hydrophobic polymer matrices, and a natural tendency to agglomerate, have posed challenges to the development and application of plant fiber composites. Emphasis is being placed on overcoming this limitation to improve the performance of plant fiber composites and their applications. This study reviews plant fiber-reinforced composites, focusing on strategies and breakthroughs for improving plant fiber composite performance, such as fiber modification, fabrication, properties, biopolymers, and their composites with industrial applications like automotive, construction, ballistic, textiles, and others. Furthermore, Pearson rank correlation coefficients were used in this review to assess the relationship between the chemical composition of plant fibers with their physical and mechanical properties. If researchers study the behavior of plant fibers using correlation coefficients, it will be easier to combine plant fibers with a polymer matrix to develop a new sustainable material. Laccases are vital players in the degradation of lignin, a complex polymer found in plant cell walls. They play a vital role in the ligninolytic activity of white-rot fungi, known for breaking down lignin the present study aimed to isolate a marine fungus with promising laccase-producing potential from the sediment. The present study collected sediment samples from mangrove sediment, Parangipettai area of Tamil Nadu, India. They were used to screen and isolate a promising marine fungus for laccase production. A total of 11 fungi were isolated. Among them, the isolate MSJM 06 showed the highest laccase activity (2.8 cm), The most potential strain, A. fumigatus was identified through LPCB, SEM and Molecular identification using ITS rRNA Sequencing and it was further selected for optimization and laccase production. Potential strains of MJMS-06 required 88 hours of incubation, 80 rpm agitation, pH 8, Temperature 37°C, 1.8% salinity, 1.5% starch as the carbon source was maltose and 0.7% peptone as the nitrogen source. Natural fibers are one of the most attractive materials in biocomposites due to their potential for sustainability. This study aims to prepare sustainable composite materials using fibers from Sansevieria trifasciata (snake plant) and to investigate their mechanical, morphological, and water absorption properties. The composite was prepared with epoxy resin through a manual hand lay‐up process, maintaining standard parameters with changeable reinforcement (10%, 20%, and 30%). The mechanical properties (tensile, impact, and flexural strength), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and water absorbency of the composites were evaluated. The result showed that the tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact resistance of the composites are 6.99 MPa, 10.77 MPa, and 14 J, respectively, for 30% fiber components, which are significantly higher than other composite materials. The SEM analysis showed a strong interfacial bond between the snake plant fiber and the epoxy resin. The FTIR analysis revealed a reduction in hemicellulose and lignin and an improvement in the interfacial adhesion between snake plant fiber and epoxy resin. The composites also demonstrated time‐dependent increases in water absorption, with the sample containing 30% fiber components showing the best absorbency performance at 0.88%. Adsorption is one of the main methods of water purification. Novel advanced, eco-friendly, cost-effective adsorbents with high adsorption capacity and selectivity are required to remove pollutants from aqueous solutions. Plant polymers are viewed as both prospective adsorbents and as raw materials to produce them instead of conventional adsorption materials. There is widespread interest in using rice husk as a universal sorbent to remove different contaminants from aqueous media because of its surplus availability, low cost, and high content of oxygen containing functional and silanol groups as active sites for adsorptive extraction. Different methods of heat and chemical treatments have been developed to improve the sorption properties of raw rice husk. Unmodified rice husk and rice-husk-based sorbents have been tested to uptake non-ferrous, ferrous, minor, precious, rare, and rare-earth metals and radionuclides from artificial and industrial solutions, natural contaminated water, and industrial wastewater. The decline in oil production in the past few decades has made Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) one of the technologies that get more attention because it has been proven to increase oil production in a field. One EOR method that is widely used today is by injecting chemicals in the form of polymers. Polymers themselves are grouped into two types, namely synthetic polymers and natural polymers or known as biopolymers. Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici (FOL) is a significant threat to tomato plants with its cutinase enzyme playing a critical role in the penetration into plant root tissue. Addressing this issue requires the gathering of essential data. Molecular docking was used to see the interaction between ligand and cutinase structure, whereas the in vitro evaluation used the rhodamine B medium to see fluorescence light expression as an indicator of cutinase activity. The results of both methods revealed turmeric's ability can disturb cutinase enzyme and its activity. Molecular docking revealed the type and value of binding interactions between turmeric's natural components and the cutinase enzyme. This virtual simulation attempted to hypothesize that the ligands from turmeric could obstruct the active site of the cutinase structure in order to degrade the plant cutin polymer. The selected turmeric molecules were bisdemethoxycurcumin, calebin A, curcumin, and demethoxycurcumin, which had shown the ability to bind to the active site of cutinase, namely serine (Ser-142). After docking, these four compounds showed the lowest scores (negative), which indicated an efficient binding of the active site. Natural fibers derived from cellulose and ligno-celluloses materials have many advantages, such as being renewable, low density, inexhaustible, and cheap rather than synthetic fibers. Researchers and scientists are searching for a new fiber source that can be processed environmentally sustainable. The aim is to produce an organic and Eco-friendly product. The present investigation aims to extract and characterize ligno-cellulosic fiber from the seedpod of Wrightia tinctoria (WT) and Cebia pentandra (CP) plants. The extraction of WT fibers (WTFs) and CP fibers (CPFs) was carried out using the hand-stripping method. The structural and functional Characterization of WTFs and CPFs were determined using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction studies (XRD), and the thermal behavior of fibers determined by using Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). The results indicated that WTFs composed of 75% cellulose, 14% lignin, and 0.55% wax content were, as the CPFs were composed of 38% cellulose, 15% lignin, and wax content of 2.34%. The SEM micrograph confirms that both fibers were hollow structures with thin cell walls and luminous because of the wax content presence on the surface of the fiber. The crystallinity percentage of WTFs and CPFs was calculated from XRD studies and is valued at 62% and 52%. Thermo gravimetric analysis revealed that WTFs and CPFs were thermally stable up to 460°C and 350°C. The industrial hemp plant Cannabis sativa is a source of vegetable fiber for both textiles and biocomposite applications. After harvesting, the plant stems are laid out on the ground and colonized by microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) naturally present in the soil and on the stems. By producing hydrolytic enzymes that degrade the plant wall polymers, the natural cement that binds the fiber bundles together is removed, thus facilitating their dissociation (retting process) which is required for producing high-performant fibers. To investigate temporal dynamics of retting microbial communities (density levels, diversity, and structure), a reliable protocol for extracting genomic DNA from stems is mandatory. However, very little attention has been paid to the methodological aspects of nucleic acid extraction, although they are crucial for the significance of the final result. Three protocols were selected and tested: a commercial kit (FastDNA™ Spin Kit for soil), the Gns-GII procedure, and a custom procedure from the Genosol platform. A comparative analysis was carried out on soil and two different varieties of hemp stem. The efficiency of each method was measured by evaluating both the quantity and quality of the extracted DNA and the abundance and taxonomy of bacterial and fungal populations. The Genosol protocol provides interesting yields in terms of quantity and quality of genomic DNA compared to the other two protocols. However, no major difference was observed in microbial diversity between the two extraction procedures (FastDNA™ SPIN Kit and Genosol protocol). Based on these results, the FastDNA™ SPIN kit or the Genosol procedure seems to be suitable for studying bacterial and fungal communities of the retting process. It should be noted that this work has demonstrated the importance of evaluating biases associated with DNA recovery from hemp stems. Taraxaci folium and Matricariae flos plant extracts contain a wide range of bioactive compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of the study was to evaluate the phytochemical and antioxidant profile of the two plant extracts to obtain a mucoadhesive polymeric film with beneficial properties in acute gingivitis. The chemical composition of the two plant extracts was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. To establish a favourable ratio in the combination of the two extracts, the antioxidant capacity was determined by the method of reduction of copper ions Cu2+ from neocuprein and by reduction of the compound 1.1-diphenyl-2-2picril-hydrazyl. Following preliminary analysis, we selected the plant mixture Taraxaci folium/matricariae flos in the ratio of 1:2 (m/m), having an antioxidant capacity of 83.92% ± 0.02 reduction of free nitrogen radical of 1.1-diphenyl-2-2picril-hydrazyl reagent. Subsequently, bioadhesive films of 0.2 mm thickness were obtained using various concentrations of polymer and plant extract. The mucoadhesive films obtained were homogeneous and flexible, with pH ranging from 6.634 to 7.016 and active ingredient release capacity ranging from 85.94–89.52%. Based on in vitro analysis, the film containing 5% polymer and 10% plant extract was selected for in vivo study. The study involved 50 patients undergoing professional oral hygiene followed by a 7-day treatment with the chosen mucoadhesive polymeric film. Key message: The fusion gene 4CL-CCR promotes lignification and activates lignin-related MYB expression in tobacco but inhibits auxin-related gene expression and hinders the auxin absorption of cells. Given the importance of lignin polymers in plant growth and their industrial value, it is necessary to investigate how plants synthesize monolignols and regulate the level of lignin in cell walls. In our previous study, expression of the Populus tomentosa fusion gene 4CL-CCR significantly promoted the production of 4-hydroxycinnamyl alcohols. However, the function of 4CL-CCR in organisms remains poorly understood. In this study, the fusion gene 4CL-CCR was heterologously expressed in tobacco suspension cells. We found that the transgenic suspension cells exhibited lignification earlier. Furthermore, 4CL-CCR significantly reduced the content of phenolic acids and increased the content of aldehydes in the medium, which led to an increase in lignin deposition. Moreover, transcriptome results showed that the genes related to lignin synthesis, such as PAL, 4CL, CCoAOMT and CAD, were significantly upregulated in the 4CL-CCR group. The expression of genes related to auxin, such as ARF3, ARF5 and ARF6, was significantly downregulated. The downregulation of auxin affected the expression of transcription factor MYBs. We hypothesize that the upregulated genes MYB306 and MYB315 are involved in the regulation of cell morphogenesis and lignin biosynthesis and eventually enhance lignification in tobacco suspension cells. α-Viniferin, a natural stilbene compound found in plants and a polymer of resveratrol, had demonstrated potential anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the specific mechanisms underlying its anti-cancer activity were not yet fully understood and required further investigation. This study evaluated the effectiveness of α-viniferin and ε-viniferin using MTT assay. Results showed that α-viniferin was more effective than ε-viniferin in reducing the viability of NCI-H460 cells, a type of non-small cell lung cancer. Annexin V/7AAD assay results provided further evidence that the decrease in cell viability observed in response to α-viniferin treatment was due to the induction of apoptosis in NCI-H460 cells. The present findings indicated that treatment with α-viniferin could stimulate apoptosis in cells by cleaving caspase 3 and PARP. Moreover, the treatment reduced the expression of SIRT1, vimentin, and phosphorylated AKT, and also induced AIF nuclear translocation. Furthermore, this research provided additional evidence for the effectiveness of α-viniferin as an anti-tumor agent in nude mice with NCI-H460 cell xenografts. The fast-growing Zara plant (a putative hybrid of Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) is usually planted for cattle fodder. For the first time, Zara plant was evaluated for its pulping potential based on anatomical, chemical, and morphological characteristics. This plant was characterized by an acceptable amount of α-cellulose (40.32%) and lignin (18.4%), with medium fiber length (1.09 mm). Soda-anthraquinone (AQ) pulping of Zara plant was investigated. Anatomically, stems of Zara plant had porous structure, mainly composed of vascular bundles surrounded by parenchyma tissue. Consequently, they were easier to delignify and defibrate, and a pulp yield of 46.54% was obtained, with kappa number 15.45 under the conditions of 14% alkali charge for 120 min of cooking at 150 ℃. Good papermaking properties were observed, the tensile index was 78.9 N.m/g at 43 °SR. The resulting pulps showed good bleachability in elemental chlorine-free (ECF) bleaching sequences (D0(EP)D1). Pulp brightness of 81.5%, with the viscosity of 16.0 mPaS, was obtained, with the consumption of 25 kg ClO2/ton of pulp. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lignin is an abundant and complex plant polymer that may limit litter decomposition, yet lignin is sometimes a minor constituent of soil organic carbon (SOC). Accounting for diversity in soil characteristics might reconcile this apparent contradiction. Tracking decomposition of a lignin/litter mixture and SOC across different North American mineral soils using lab and field incubations, here we show that cumulative lignin decomposition varies 18-fold among soils and is strongly correlated with bulk litter decomposition, but not SOC decomposition. Climate legacy predicts decomposition in the lab, and impacts of nitrogen availability are minor compared with geochemical and microbial properties. Lignin decomposition increases with some metals and fungal taxa, whereas SOC decomposition decreases with metals and is weakly related with fungi. Decoupling of lignin and SOC decomposition and their contrasting biogeochemical drivers indicate that lignin is not necessarily a bottleneck for SOC decomposition and can explain variable contributions of lignin to SOC among ecosystems. Lignin's contribution to soil organic carbon (SOC) is contentious. The authors find a decoupling of lignin and SOC decomposition and their contrasting relationships with geochemical and microbial factors, addressing a long-standing controversy. Low cost and high durability have made Portland cement the most widely‐used building material, but benefits are offset by environmental harm of cement production contributing 8–10% of total anthropogenic CO2 gas emissions. High sulfur‐content materials (HSMs) are an alternative that can perform the binding roles as cements with a smaller carbon footprint, and possibly superior chemical, physical, and mechanical properties. Inverse vulcanization of 90 wt% sulfur with 10 wt% canola oil or sunflower oil to yield CanS or SunS, respectively. Notably, these HSMs prepared at temperatures ≤180 °C compared to >1200 °C hours for Portland cement CanS was combined with 5 wt% fly ash (FA), silica fume (SF), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), or metakaolin (MK) to give composites CanS‐FA, CanS‐SF, CanS‐GGBFS, and CanS‐MK, respectively. The analogous protocol with SunS likewise yielded SunS‐FA, SunS‐SF, SunS‐GGBFS, and SunS‐MK. Each of these HSMs exhibit high compressive mechanical strength, low water uptake values, and exceptional resistance to acid‐induced corrosion. All of the composites also exhibit superior compressive strength retention after exposure to acidic solutions, conditions under which Portland cement undergoes dissolution. Hydrogen production using polymer membrane electrolyzers is an effective and valuable way of generating an environmentally friendly energy source. Hydrogen and oxygen generated by electrolyzers can power drone fuel cells. The thermodynamic analysis of polymer membrane electrolyzers to identify key losses and optimize their performance is fundamental and necessary. In this article, the process of the electrolysis of water by a polymer membrane electrolyzer in combination with a concentrated solar system in order to generate power and hydrogen was studied, and the effect of radiation intensity, current density, and other functional variables on the hydrogen production was investigated. It was shown that with an increasing current density, the voltage generation of the electrolyzer increased, and the energy efficiency and exergy of the electrolyzer decreased. Additionally, as the temperature rose, the pressure dropped, the thickness of the Nafion membrane increased, the voltage decreased, and the electrolyzer performed better. By increasing the intensity of the incoming radiation from 125 W / m 2 to 320 W / m 2 , the hydrogen production increased by 111%, and the energy efficiency and exergy of the electrolyzer both decreased by 14% due to the higher ratio of input electric current to output hydrogen. Finally, machine-learning-based predictions were conducted to forecast the energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, voltage, and hydrogen production rate in different scenarios. The results proved to be very accurate compared to the analytical results. Silica nanoparticles were reported that can improve the fire safety and mechanical properties of polymers simultaneously due to excellent rigidity and physical barrier effect. However, its efficiency was limited by the agglomeration in polymers due to their high specific surface energy. Silica@ polydopamine (SiO2@PDA) was prepared by a facile self-polymerization method to comprehensively improve fire safety, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of plant fiber-reinforced polymer (PFRP) composites. The results of micro-morphology confirmed that the SiO2@PDA nanoparticles exhibit better dispersion state in epoxy matrix. The introduction of SiO2@PDA further increased the thermal decomposition temperature and the yield of graphitized char residue of PFRP composites compared to pure silica nanoparticles. And the fire safety of composites including limiting oxygen index, heat parameters, smoke parameters and mass loss rate was improved effectively. Particularly, the time to ignition of composites was delayed by 30 s, which was beneficial for individuality escape and rescue. Meanwhile, the improvement of storage modulus suggested the SiO2@PDA enhanced the mechanical properties of the PFRP composites. And it was proved that PDA can improve the graphitization degree of char layer and release inert gas including NH3 and CO2 during combustion. The effectiveness of non-toxic PDA in enhancing the quality of char layer and optimizing the interface to improve the dispersion state of nanoparticles appeared promising potential in the field of manufacturing fire-safe polymer-matrix composites. Plants, as a large and complex system, are rich in a variety of natural bioactive constituents. It is crucial to enrich, isolate, purify and detect these natural products. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a class of polymers prepared by molecularly imprinted technology (MIT) that have specific recognition sites and are complementary to templates in shape, size, and binding groups. The synthesis and polymerization mechanism of MIPs are introduced. A variety of preparation methods for MIPs have been developed. MIPs can be classified into three types: non‐covalent molecularly imprinted, covalent molecularly imprinted, and semi‐covalent molecularly imprinted. MIPs usually consists of five parts: template, functional monomer, cross‐linker, initiator, and solvent/reagent. With the advantages of high‐specificity binding ability, MIPs have shown excellent efficacy in the separation, enrichment, and purification of plant active products, such as flavonoids, polyphenols, terpenoids, and other components, especially as specific adsorbent materials. Due to the high selectivity to target the analytes, MIPs have also been used as sensors to detect the bioactive constituents in plants. Undeniably, MIPs still face undeniable limitations in the application of plant natural products. Blending biodegradable polymers with plant materials is an effective method to improve the biodegradability of solid carbon sources and save denitrification costs, but the recalcitrant lignin in plant materials hinders the microbial decomposition of available carbon sources. In the present study, corncob pretreated by different methods was used to prepare polybutylene succinate/corncob (PBS/corncob) composites for biological denitrification. The PBS/corncob composite with alkaline pretreatment achieved the optimal NO3−-N removal rate (0.13 kg NO3−-N m−3 day−1) with less adverse effects. The pretreatment degree, temperature, and their interaction distinctly impacted the nitrogen removal performance and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release, while the N2O emission was mainly affected by the temperature and the interaction of temperature and pretreatment degree. Microbial community analysis showed that the bacterial community was responsible for both denitrification and lignocellulose degradation, while the fungal community was primarily in charge of lignocellulose degradation. Plant fiber/plastic composites (PPCs) have been widely used in food contact materials (FCMs) for many benefits, such as their claimed better environmental footprint compared to conventional plastics. However, their safety is still not fully understood and must be comprehensively evaluated. Non-volatiles extracted from six PPCs with different plant fibers and polymer matrices were characterized by employing ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry in combination with various spectral libraries and manual elucidation, taking into account spectral similarity and characteristic product ions. A total of 115 compounds were tentatively identified, 50 of which were oligomers or their derivatives from the sample with polylactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) as the polymer matrix, and some of them were Cramer rules class III substances based on the threshold of toxicological concern (TTC). Seven reaction products between PLA and PBAT monomers, as well as four derivatives of melamine, were elucidated and well detailed for the first time. In addition, bisphenol S was detected in all samples even though its origin remains to be further explored. Isoprothiolane, as an insecticide and fungicide used to control a range of rice pests, was identified in the sample with rice husk as fillers, experimentally confirming the presence of agrochemicals in samples containing plant fibers. The annual temperate grass Brachypodium distachyon has become a model system for monocot biomass crops and for understanding lignocellulosic recalcitrance to employ better saccharification and fermentation approaches. It is a monocot plant used to study the grass cell walls that differ from the cell walls of dicot plants such as the eudicot model Arabidopsis. The B. distachyon cell wall is predominantly composed of cellulose, arabinoxylans, and mixed-linkage glucans, and it resembles the cell walls of other field grasses. It has a vascular bundle anatomy similar to C3 grasses. These features make Brachypodium an ideal model to study cell walls. Cell walls are composed of polymers with complex structures that vary between cell types and at different developmental stages. Antibodies that recognize specific cell wall components are currently one of the most effective and specific molecular probes to determine the location and distribution of polymers in plant cell walls in situ. Here, we investigated the glycan distribution in the cell walls of the root and leaf tissues of Brachypodium by employing cell-wall-directed antibodies against diverse glycan epitopes. There are distinct differences in the presence of the epitopes between the root and leaf tissues as well as in the cell type level, which gives insights into monocot biomass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ruminants are foregut fermenters that have the remarkable ability of converting plant polymers that are indigestible to humans into assimilable comestibles like meat and milk, which are cornerstones of human nutrition. Ruminants establish a symbiotic relationship with their microbiome, and the latter is the workhorse of carbohydrate fermentation. On the other hand, during carbohydrate fermentation, synthesis of propionate sequesters H, thus reducing its availability for the ultimate production of methane (CH4) by methanogenic archaea. Biochemically, methane is the simplest alkane and represents a downturn in energetic efficiency in ruminants; environmentally, it constitutes a potent greenhouse gas that negatively affects climate change. Prevotella is a very versatile microbe capable of processing a wide range of proteins and polysaccharides, and one of its fermentation products is propionate, a trait that appears conspicuous in P. ruminicola strain 23. Since propionate, but not acetate or butyrate, constitutes an H sink, propionate-producing microbes have the potential to reduce methane production. Accordingly, numerous studies suggest that members of the genus Prevotella have the ability to divert the hydrogen flow in glycolysis away from methanogenesis and in favor of propionic acid production. Intended for a broad audience in microbiology, our review summarizes the biochemistry of carbohydrate fermentation and subsequently discusses the evidence supporting the essential role of Prevotella in lignocellulose processing and its association with reduced methane emissions. Microbial infections represent a concerning health issue, and antibiotic-resistant pathogens represent a priority all over the world, having a negative impact on life quality and the economy. Therefore, there is an increase in focus on natural and renewable resources capable to inhibit microbial proliferation and their adherence on the surfaces. The mechanism involved in antimicrobial action and plant polysaccharides is still not clear. In this study, the plant polysaccharides extracted from different organs of plants, extraction methods, antibacterial and antiviral spectra and their mechanisms were reviewed. This review aims to provide a screening that could enhance the application of polysaccharides extracted from plants as antimicrobial agents related to the urgent need for natural alternative approaches to combat antimicrobial drug resistance (AMR).
