- Abstract
In this investigation the synthesis, structural and optical characterization of terbium-doped ZnO-ZrO 2 -ZnZrO 3 luminescent coatings, deposited by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique, are presented. These coatings were deposited at various substrate temperatures and were doped with different concentrations of the Tb3+ ions within the precursor solution. The XRD results for these coatings exhibited that their crystalline structure is subject to the deposition temperature. In the luminescence study, with an excitation wavelength of 270 nm the emission spectra were recorded, and all these spectra exhibit bands corresponding to the electronic transitions of trivalent terbium ions. When these samples were excited with 380 nm, the PL emission generated was reddish, probably produced by crystalline defects in the existing oxides. The concentration quenching effect appears at doping concentrations greater than 10 atomic percent inside the precursor solution. More information about the morphological and optical characteristics of these samples was obtained through techniques such as: SEM, TEM, EDS, and Diffuse Reflectance. Decay time study of the 544 nm characteristic green emission of Tb3+ ion was also obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
