A 10 year old imagines the Angel of Odesa coming to Ukraine and liberating it from invaders. A 12-year old expresses her worries for her relatives, friends, acquaintances and teachers and her desire for the war to and to live in peace. A seven-year old dreams of going to school and to give joy and happiness with her violin playing.

The article focuses on poet John Milton and his artistic representation of lasting peace through his poem "On the Morning of Christ's Nativity, Compos'd 1629". It mentions that peace cannot be realized in art, and artistic beauty can confuse or distract from the less glamorous and highly rigorous work of peace. This article presents the interdisciplinary cooperative research project on the topic „Dass Gerechtigkeit und Friede sich küssen“ – Repräsentationen des Friedens im vormodernen Europa. The aim is to study how peace processes during the modern period in Europe were reflected in the figurative arts, music, theology, history and literature thanks to a collaboration between institutes, libraries and research museums in various disciplines. Within the project framework (from 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2018), the History of Music Section of the German Historical Institute will study topoi relating to the representation of peace in the Italian cantata and similar genres during the 17th and 18th centuries. This paper is an invitation to think about art and the legacy of violence and injustice in the history of mankind and the efforts from different artistic projects on conflict resolution and the promotion of peace in the world. Some of these experiences are presented and analyzed and it is examined how they have been applied by different disciplines to solve or make progress on some of the problems society faces. It is also important to think about the use of art, theater and creativity as a methodological strategy and as an exercise of participatory research that allows transformative research in the field of violence and teamwork from the affected communities. This article describes and reflects on the significance of the 2013 temporary exhibition Peace - The Exhibition at the Canadian War Museum. Given the dearth of peace exhibitions and museums internationally, an exhibition on the theme of peace is noteworthy. This exhibition is both remarkable and controversial because it is housed at a museum of military history. The exhibition structure uses art and objects to consider multiple perspectives of peace through the lens of historical and present-day events in Canadian history within 3 themes: negotiate, intervene, and organize. An interview is presented with Belgian photojournalist Francois Lasso in which he discusses his support for the peace-oriented photojournalism award Premio de Fotoperiodismo por la Paz Juan Antonio Serrano. When asked about photojournalism Lasso refers to the complementarity of text and image and the search for greater autonomy of the image in relationship to text. He also discusses the development of visual culture and his own experience as a photojournalist in Ecuador.

The article focuses on Peter Paul Rubens' painting "War Allegory." Rubens protestations to war has been used as a key to a pacifist interpretation of his war and peace allegories but he has also been known to recommend Spain to promote an impending civil war in France on the side of Maria de' Medici. Rubens was understood to recommend war as a means toward peace. A smaller workshop copy of the painting was made and was woven in Bruges as parts of series of the "Seven Liberal Arts" and the painting was also reproduced in a copper engraving by Ferdinando Gregori in 1771.

The article presents an interpretation of the art collage "Ruptures of Dialogue," from Daphne Trimikliotis Mavrovouniotis. It highlights the message of peace in various forms such as the portrayal of a mother with a child in her hands, the explicit slogan of "No War" and "Stop US," as well as the inclusion of the peace symbol. The article also presents the artworks "Yirismos" or Return and "Kori me Peristeria or Daughter With Doves, which are also replete with symbolisms of peace and the global effort towards peaceful co-existence.

Reviews the book, Transitional Justice, Peace and Accountability: Outreach and the Role of International Courts after Conflict by J. Lincoln (2012). In this book, the author (who is based at Kings College London) assesses the success of Outreach, a program established to help spread information on the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) to the East African nation's citizenry. Lincoln concludes that, while Outreach's representatives worked hard to convey the SCSL's mission to everyday Sierra Leoneans, they were ultimately stunted by a lack of resources. Transitional Justice does a good job detailing how the conflict arose and then spread into the civilian population. Professor Lincoln's work is certainly worth reading for those interested in Sierra Leone's specific attempt at transitional justice. Reviews the book, The Glorious Art of Peace by John Gittings (2012). This is a wonderful study of the subtler "arts of peace" and a welcome relief from the somewhat crass valorization-through-pragmatism of the usual power-, war-, and violence-based contributions to human political history. Detailed and well-written chapters cover several dimensions of peace: perceptions, history, morality, humanism, peace consciousness, alternatives, and modern developments. This volume's richness, breadth, and incisiveness are no doubt assisted by the fact that its author is also a senior member of the editorial board of the Oxford International Encyclopedia of Peace. Reviews the book, Handbook on Peace Education by Gavriel Salomon and Ed Cairns (see record 2010-00471-000). The changes and challenges presented in Salomon and Cairns's Handbook on Peace Education make this an especially valuable resource for researchers and practitioners who are already familiar with the differences among personal violence, direct violence, and structural and institutional violence. A diligent reading of Salomon and Cairns's book will yield numerous opportunities for opening up dialogue with other psychological researchers and encouraging the integration of peace-related concepts into research across disciplines. Reviews the book, People Power: Unarmed Resistance and Global Solidarity by Howard Clark (2009). This book is based on papers presented at a 2006 international meeting held at the Center for Peace and Reconciliation Studies, at Coventry University, in the United Kingdom. In the reviewer's opinion, the editorial work by Howard Clark to prepare this volume is superb. Further, the papers of many eminent practitioners and scholars in this book contribute to the broadening of a global perspective on nonviolent struggle that has hitherto remained extremely limited in terms of both scope and content in many books on this topic. Clark categorizes the history of recent unarmed resistance in many countries in four sections. The first section deals with movements that developed primarily to end antidemocratic regimes. The second part offers insights into the impact of nonviolent interventions such as Peace Brigades International. The third part of the book deals with specific issues, such as feminism, antiwar solidarity, and labor, to illustrate the use of nonviolent techniques in the context of solidarity and shared identities. The final section focuses on a very contentious issue: support for nonviolent movements from external sources that could be perceived as interference from another country or agency. The reviewer opines that Clark's editorial comments at the beginning of the book, before each section, and at the end of the book are so intense that the reader experiences a global science of nonviolent action with exercises in its theory and practice. The article discusses English landscape painter William Hodges (1744-1797), focusing particularly on his exhibition held in London, England during the winter of 1794-1795 which was controversial largely due to a pair of complimentary paintings entitled "The Effects of Peace" and "The Consequences of War." The relationship between Hodges and English poet William Hayley (1745-1820) is considered. The author requests information from readers regarding correspondence between Hodges and Hayley written between 1793 and 1796 which provides information about the thoughts, influences, and processes involved in the creation of the two paintings Peace and War which caused a public debate.

The article offers information on Ludwig Dill's painting "The Birch Grove (Birkenwald)." Dill was born in the spa town of Baden-Baden, Germany and was one of the founders of the Neu Dachau school of art. His "The Birch Grove" painting features a curving brook with shades of white shimmering on the trees. The author describes Dill as a master of plein air and landscape painting, by which he expresses his creativity and emotions. She also claims that the painting depicts a peaceful scenery.
