All’interno del cantiere dell’Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia esistono diversi studi, per lo più di impianto lessicografico, sulla cultura dialettale connessa agli ambiti della zoonimia e della fitonimia, come il Vocabolario-atlante delle pratiche venatorie, che tende a documentare in prospettiva geolinguistica e panregionale diversi importanti aspetti della zoonimia siciliana. L’attenzione a un tale ambito permette di accostarsi a un settore della cultura dialettale decisamente interessante e producente almeno per due ragioni: 1) indagare sulla caccia permette di raccogliere informazioni su settori etnodialettali diversi, dalla geomorfologia all’avifauna 2) il lessico venatorio, più di ogni altro vocabolario settoriale, lascia emergere una forte componente creativa per la quale l’aspetto metaforico gioca un ruolo cruciale. nel contributo vengono quindi presentati diversi esempi di invenzione e creatività metaforica nel linguaggio dei cacciatori con particolare riguardo alle denominazioni e al lessico del furetto, con una particolare attenzione al condizionamento reciproco tra lingua comune e linguaggio venatorio.

DaWaII (Data Warehouse IntegratIon) is a tool supporting the various activities related to the integration of multidimensional data. This problem arises in common scenarios where there is the need to combine independently developed data warehouses. Actually, a today common practice for building a data warehouse is to develop a collection of integrated data marts, each of which provide a dimensional view of a single business process. These data marts should be based on shared dimensions but very often, even within the same company, designers develop their data marts independently and it turns out that their integration is a difficult task. Indeed, the problem arises in other common cases. For instance, when different companies get involved in a federated project or when there is the need to combine a proprietary data warehouse with external information, for instance, with multidimensional data wrapped from the Web.

In this paper we describe the design of a tool supporting the integration of independently developed data warehouses, a problem that arises in several common scenarios. The basic facility of the tool is a test of the validity of a matching between heterogeneous dimensions, according to a number of desirable properties. Two strategies are then provided to perform the actual integration. The first approach refers to a scenario of loosely coupled integration, in which we just need to identify the common information between sources and perform drill-across queries over them. The goal of the second approach is the derivation of a materialized view built by merging the sources, and refers to a scenario of tightly coupled integration in which queries are performed against the view. We illustrate architecture and functionality of the tool and the underlying techniques that implement the two integration strategies.
