Stereotyping is a recurrent mind process through which our brain easily stores a large amount of information synthesising them through simplifications and generalisations. Stereotypes, particularly those related to gender, are internalised during growth, offering a rigid perspective on male and female roles within a society. Two nation-wide surveys were carried out by the MUSA research group of the National Research Council of Italy within the Ongoing Social Changes- COVID19 Observatory. This work compares the changes in the acceptance of gender stereotypes occurred between the first and the second survey. The study highlights the great strength of the "hidden persuasion" produced by gender stereotypes. Since the family and domestic environment are the main contexts where gender stereotypes grow and reinforce, the lockdown period of close and intense cohabitation of household' members during COVID 19 pandemic has exacerbated gender stereotypes acceptance. This is especially true for women who spend most of their time at home. Future studies will be able to verify the possible chronicity of this phenomenon and the cultural regression that it may have triggered. There is a risk that this social dynamic could revitalise forms of exclusion and self-exclusion of women from the labour market, reinforcing the idea of women's inadequacy in relation to specific roles still associated to male supremacy.

Nanocarriers are designed to specifically accumulate in diseased tissues. In this context, targeting of intracellular compartments was shown to enhance the efficacy of many drugs and to offer new and more effective therapeutic approaches. This is especially true for therapies based on biologicals that must be encapsulated to favor cell internalization, and to avoid intracellular endosomal sequestration and degradation of the payload. In this review, we discuss specific surface modifications designed to achieve cell cytoplasm delivery and to improve targeting of major organelles; we also discuss the therapeutic applications of these approaches. Last, we describe some integrated strategies designed to sequentially overcome the biological barriers that separate the site of administration from the cell cytoplasm, which is the drug's site of action.

he aim of this study was to estimate heritability's of rennet coagulation time (RCT) and curd firmness (CF) and their genetic correlations with milk yield and composition. Three hundred Mediterranean buffalo cows were sampled in 6 herds located in Southern Italy. Milk coagulation properties of each buffalo cow were measured using a computerized renneting meter. The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS (2003). No significant dependence was found between RCT and fat, density, protein content and pH. No significant dependence was found between CF and density, lactose, protein, and casein contents and pH. The coefficient of determination (R2) by RCT, that is the proportion of variability of a character explained by a model, has turned out to be equal to 88% for day of lactation, 0.1% for date of calving and 0% for parity, while the R2 of CF was found equal to 73%, 68% and 0% respectively for day of lactation, date of calving and parity. The estimated hereditability was found to be 0.27 ± 0.03 and 0.11 ± 0.001 for RCT and CF respectively. In un allevamento bufalino a conduzione biologica e in uno a conduzione convenzionale sono stati effettuati prelievi di latte, a cadenza quindicinale, sui quali sono state effettuate le analisi riguardanti la composizione chimico-nutrizionale e del calcolo del casein number. I dati sono stati suddivisi in 6 intervalli secondo la distanza dal parto e analizzati con la procedura ANOVA del pacchetto statistico SPSS. I risultati hanno mostrato che esistono della differenza sulle caratteristiche chimico-nutrizionali tra il latte ottenuto dagli animali allevati secondo il metodo biologico e quelli ottenuti nell'azienda tradizionale. Appare altresì evidente che mentre nell'azienda a conduzione biologica l'andamento del contenuto in caseina è simile a quello del casein number, per l'azienda convenzionale questo non avviene. Da questo studio preliminare possiamo affermare che l'allevamento a conduzione biologica migliora notevolmente la qualità del latte prodotto destinato alla trasformazione. L'allevamento del Bufalo è un'importante realtà economica, sia per il gran numero degli addetti, sia per il risvolto produttivo, rappresentando un comparto strategico per l'economia nazionale. L'animale neonato ha bisogno di cure, la più importante delle quali è rappresentata dalla somministrazione del colostro entro le prime ore di vita e per una durata di almeno 18÷36 h al fine di trasmettere delle difese immunitarie al vitello, che non è in grado di rispondere ai principali agenti ambientali, patogeni e non. È importante tenere presente che nei vitelli bufalini,come in tutti gli altri ruminanti, mancano le Ig circolanti, in quanto la placenta è impermeabile alle Ig, e soltanto l'assunzione del colostro garantisce un'adeguata immunità. Quindi la mancata o insufficiente assunzione di colostro rappresenta uno dei fattori più importanti che favoriscono l'insorgenza di malattie e quindi della morte. La somministrazione di rimedi omeopatici ad attività immunostimolante nell'immediato preparto sembra avere un effetto equivalente alle tecniche vaccinali normalmente utilizzate nell'allevamento convenzionale. Il periodo della gravidanza è considerato il momento migliore per l'azione di tali rimedi; infatti, in questo periodo, le bufale sembrano mostrare maggiore sensibilità all'azione degli stessi. In letteratura si riporta che gli estratti da radici di tre specie medicinali di Echinacea (purpurea, angustifolia e pallida) sono particolarmente ricchi di sostanze immunologicamente attive. Scopo di questo lavoro è stato migliorare la conoscenza degli effetti della somministrazione di E. purpurea sulla mortalità neonatale negli allevamenti di tipo biologico a confronto con quella delle aziende convenzionali. Nell'azienda biologica sono state selezionate 60 bufale pluripare, uniformi per data parto e parità, mentre nella convenzionale sono state scelte 20 bufale uniformi per le stesse caratteristiche. Nell'azienda biologica, agli animali nell'immediato preparto sono stati somministrati 2,5 ml/capo/die di E. purpurea (TM) per os per 20 giorni, poi, nel post-partum Nux vomica 30 CH (1074 pellet/capo/die) per 7 giorni, quindi Chelidonium 30 CH (10 pellet/capo/die) peraltri 7 giorni e infine Lycopodium (10 pellet/capo/die) per gli ultimi 7 giorni. Nell'azienda convenzionale, le bufale sono state vaccinate utilizzando prodotti commerciali contenenti ceppi di batteri inattivi (Coli e Clostridria) e virus (Rotavirus e Coronavirus). Subito dopo la nascita, nell'azienda biologica, ai vitelli bufalini sono stati somministrati 5 granuli al giorno di Pyrogenium diluito in 5 mldi latte acido nei primi giorni 5 giorni di vita e poi per 10 giorni 0,5 ml/die di E. purpurea (TM) in 5 ml di latte acido. Nell'azienda biologica si sono avuti 215 parti (di cui 135 maschi), mentre in quella convenzionale 221 parti (di cui 91 maschi). Il rapporto maschi/femmine era significativamente a favore dei maschi nell'azienda biologica e delle femmine in quella convenzionale, ma è chiaro che questo effetto è del tutto casuale. La mortalità nei gruppi trattati è stata di 19 animali su 60 parti(32%): 20% nella 1a settimana, 20% nel 1omese e 30% tra il 2o e il 3o mese. In quest'ultimo periodo vi è un momento di stress dell'animale legato al passaggio da un'alimentazione liquida a una solida dove la microflora intestinale si modifica, perdendo probabilmente la sensibilità verso Echinacea. Al contrario, nell'azienda convenzionale, la mortalità neonatale è stata di 73 vitelli su 221 (33%), distribuita in questo modo: 14 % nella 1a settimana, 11 % nel 1o mese e 10 % tra il 2o e il 3o mese. Nelle condizioni sperimentali utilizzate la somministrazione di rimedi omeopatici come immunostimolanti ha notevolmente ridotto la mortalità peri-neonatale nell'azienda biologica, portandola quasi al pari di quella convenzionale. Possiamo quindi concludere che l'uso di rimedi omeopatici è una via terapeutica che migliora anche il benessere animale.

The trial was conducted on thirty buffalo cows subdivided in three groups. In the immediate pre-calving, 2.5 ml of Echinacea purpurea were orally administered to the first group (A) and, after calving, Nux vomica, Chelidonium and Lycopodium were administered at 7 days intervals. The second group (B) was only subjected to the post-calving treatment, while the third group (C) represented the control group. Immediately after calving two groups of calves were formed. The first group received 5 granules of Pyrogenium in the first days of life and then for 10 days the 0.5 ml of E. purpurea. The second group did not receive any remedy. Before the calving, in conventional farm twenty buffalo cows (D group) were vaccinated. Remedies administration did not affect milk protein content, milk lipid contents and the achievement of the lactation peak. Blood samples showed that total protein, albumin and globulin levels were lower in group A, compared to groups B and C. Cholesterol and urea were lower in the treated groups than in the control. We therefore conclude that the use of homeopathic remedies are a chance to improve animal welfare and their productive characteristics.

Rapporto finale di progetto relativo al progetto "LIGHT'11: Accendi la luce sulla scienza". Il progetto, finanziato dal PON-Ricerca e Competitività (MIUR/MISE), è collegato al progetto europeo "LIGHT: Turn on the light on science", che si svolge nell'ambito della European Researchers' Night e rappresenta l'estensione delle attività di questo ultimo nelle Regioni Obiettivo Convergenza. Nel 2011, il progetto "LIGHT'11: Accendi la luce sulla scienza" ha previsto la realizzazione di 4 grandi eventi nazionali di comunicazione e divulgazione scientifica che si sono svolti contemporaneamente il 23 settembre a Benevento, Bari, Cosenza-Rende e Palermo.

Hydrogen removal can be accomplished via different steelmaking routes (VOD, ASEA, RH). Focus was givenon the first two technologies. As main differences between the systems based on a (multi)-plug equipped ladle,in VOD the vacuum chamber is obtained by coupling a roof with a tank, in ASEA plant–where electromagnetic melt stirring is also exploited - coupling occurs directly with the ladle, leading oftento a non perfect sealing. Moreover, VOD plant is able to perform under vacuum steel degassing treatmentat pressure values lower than usually reached in ASEA plant, and is also equipped with a oxygen lanceallowing to produce stainless steels with very low carbon and nitrogen content. The industrial needof achieving very low hydrogen contents for big ingots casting with an acceptable costs/benefits ratio calledfor a comparison between performances of different vacuum treatments strategies. A CSM numericaldegassing model was applied to 140 ton ladle conditions either after ASEA or VOD treatment.

The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of two anesthesia techniques, combined epidural/general anesthesia (CEGA) versus total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), for laparoscopic cholecystectomy.Forty patients were randomly assigned to one of two different groups: group A received TIVA and group B received CEGA. At preset times during the operation, systolic and diastolic arterial pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation (SaO2) and end-tidal carbon dioxide (Etco2) were monitored. Postoperatively, recovery (Steward's test) and analgesia (visual analog scale [VAS] pain scores) were assessed, as well as the incidence of adverse effects.The groups were comparable as to demographic data and duration of surgery and of anesthesia. Intraoperative parameters also showed no statistical differences. Both groups had a rapid recovery (Steward score of 6 within 12 minutes), but group B showed better recovery scores at 4 minutes. Postoperative pain was well controlled in both groups, but group B exhibited better scores at postoperative hour 2. The incidence of postoperative side effects was low in both groups.The use of CEGA for laparoscopic cholecystectomy seems to be effective and safe and to offer some advantages as compared to TIVA alone. CEGA can control pain due to CO2-induced peritoneal irritation, providing excellent intra- and postoperative analgesia. CEGA does not require the use of intraoperative intravenous opioids and shortens recovery time, without increasing the incidence of side effects.
