Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the viability of shifting foreign direct investment (FDI) from China to Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries in light of recent geopolitical and economic challenges. By analyzing case studies, it argues that CEE nations offer a compelling alternative for Western European businesses, with stronger intellectual property protection, political stability and alignment with European Union (EU) sustainability goals. The paper provides insights for firms and policymakers on mitigating risks and enhancing business operations by pivoting toward the CEE region, offering practical recommendations for adapting to shifting global trade dynamics. Design/methodology/approach – The design methodology uses the case study approach to analyze the shift of FDI from China to CEE. This method examines the geopolitical, economic and legal contexts influencing business decisions, using real-world examples of Western European companies that have made this transition. The case studies highlight key factors in decision-making and the benefits of relocating investments to the CEE region. Findings – The study identifies several advantages of the CEE region over China for Western European firms. These include geographic proximity, similarities in business values and purposes, environmental accountability, trustworthiness in business, enforceable noncompetition rules, lower risks of counterfeiting, reduced political and administrative risks, lower risks of intellectual property theft and reduced risks of negative publicity. Practical implications – The findings suggest that Western European firms should consider redirecting their FDI to the CEE region to mitigate risks associated with investing in China. This move could offer long-term benefits despite short-term complications. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the FDI theoretical framework by enhancing the cultural, administrative, geographic and economic (CAGE) distance framework. It provides a unique perspective on the shifting dynamics between Europe and China and highlights the potential of the CEE region as a viable alternative for FDI.

Technostress highlights the challenges individuals face in adapting to new technologies, especially in the absence of effective coping mechanisms and preventive strategies. This phenomenon has far-reaching implications, affecting both organizational and personal environments. This study explores the impact of technostress on the IT workforce in Romania, shedding light on its implications for job stress, organizational stress, and employee morale within the context of the country's evolving IT industry. The investigation, based on 2141 valid responses, utilizes Ordinary Least Squares Regression (OLS) and Pearson Correlation Coefficients to analyse the relationships between stress, morale, and job satisfaction. The inclusion of COVID-19 effects adds a contemporary dimension to the study, recognizing the changing landscape of work and its potential impact on IT workers' well-being. Management in the IT sector in Romania needs to be adaptable and responsive to the needs and challenges posed by technostress. This includes providing support to employees in managing workloads, promoting healthy technology use practices, and creating a balanced work environment.

Uterine arteriovenous malformations (UAVMs) that occur after birth are a rare cause of late postpartum hemorrhage. Acquired UAVMs usually occur in conjunction with pathology of the placenta. In the spectrum of placenta accreta (PAS), subinvolution of the placental bed plays an important role in its pathophysiology. We present a case of UAVM in a pregnant woman with PAS who presented with marked metrorrhagia after delivery, which was treated with classical management. Then, 35 days later, she presented to the emergency room with severe metrorrhagia. As it was suspected that she had placental remnants, an instrumental uterine control was performed, but the bleeding persisted, requiring further uterine packing and blood administration. Later, uterine artery embolization was performed with good results. Color Doppler ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and angiography were the methods with the greatest diagnostic value. The differential diagnosis was as complex as the treatment. We hypothesize that UAVM may develop from minimal residual PAS in this late postpartum period. Moreover, they may recover rapidly after local surgical ablation. Considering the clinical condition, hemodynamic status, and desire to preserve fertility, we were able to avoid a hysterectomy, which is often chosen in such cases of severe, life-threatening bleeding complications.

Scabies is a parasitic infestation of the skin with high prevalence in crowded spaces. In some instances, scabies becomes the underlying factor for complicated skin-borne opportunistic pathogens infections in both children and adults. Geographic area and socio-economic factors are determinants of the endemic pattern of this disease. Currently, the treatment of scabies has been under special attention. A combination of oral therapy with Ivermectin and sulfur-based ointments are the gold standard. However, caution is required in patients with kidney impairment. The renal involvement in children with scabies is mainly caused by acute glomerulonephritis. The severity of the nephritic syndrome can lead to other complications. Also, Ivermectin possesses a nephrotoxic effect. Severe hypertension can lead to neurological complications. The aim of our case report is to present two unusual complications in brothers with scabies. We report the cases of two brothers with scabies who presented with severe skin infection that developed acute post infectious glomerulonephritis (APIGN). In addition, one of the brothers presented with posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). The other one developed acute tubule-interstitial acute kidney injury following Ivermectin administration. The evolution of skin lesions was favorable, and kidney function returned to normal in both brothers.

In an extremely competitive situation, such as the European market and the economic crisis of recent years, organizations face an increasingly difficult situation to survive and maintain a competitive position on the reference market. This topic presents a number of basic concepts in a logical and systematic manner, focusing on understanding and analyzing competition, particularly unfair competition. The phenomenon of competition often suffers from negative distortions and related adverse manifestations, manifesting in various forms of abusive behavior of companies with exclusive rights in the framework of competition, as well as specific acts of unfair competition. In this sense, it is necessary to protect fair competition and to hold anti-competitive actors to account. Unfair competition enforcement is a means rather than an end. Rules sanctioning unfair competition protect the economic interests of all types of operators and prevent certain operators from violating laws, regulations and business ethics. Competitive conduct in itself is not illegal, but only if the means used to attract customers are illegal

The web offers large volumes of data that is unstructured and fails to be further processed if not extracted and organized into local variables or into databases. In this paper, we aim to extract data from the Internet using web scraping and analyse it with Natural Language Processing (NLP). Our purpose is to understand customers’ opinions by extracting reviews and investigating them in Python. The positive or negative insight of the reviews, along with the word cloud offer additional tools to understand the customers, predict their behaviour and underpin problems signalled in the reviews. TextBlob and BERTweet are applied to analyse the reviews. To enhance the comprehension of the outcomes, a comparison is drawn between the classifications generated by the BERTweet model and those provided by the TextBlob API, a widely used Python library for performing various NLP tasks. Furthermore, the reviews are pre-processed to clean them from line breaks, punctuation characters etc. and a n-grams analysis is performed to better understand the positive and negative reviews. The frequency of the reviews displays the concrete problems faced by customers visiting the hotel in various seasons. It helps decision makers to take measures and improve the quality of the hotel services.

- Abstract
Several alternatives to formalin-stored physical specimens have been described in medical literature, but only a few studies have addressed the issue of learning outcomes when these materials were employed. The aim of this study was to conduct a prospective controlled study to assess student performance in learning anatomic pathology when adding three-dimensional (3D) virtual models as adjunct teaching materials in the study of macroscopic lesions. Third-year medical students (n = 501) enrolled at the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Romania, were recruited to participate. Student performance was assessed through questionnaires. Students performed worse with new method, with poorer results in terms of overall (mean 77.6% ±SD 11.8% vs. 83.6% ±10.5) and individual question scores (percentage of questions with maximum score 34.6% ±25.6 vs. 47.7 ± 24.6). This decreased performance was generalizable, as it was observed across all language divisions and was independent of the teaching assistant involved in the process. In an open-ended feedback evaluation of the new 3D specimens, most students agreed that the new method was better, bringing arguments both for and against these models. Although subjectively the students found the novel teaching materials to be more helpful, their learning performance decreased. A wider implementation as well as exposure to the technique and use of virtual specimens in medical teaching could improve the students' performance outcome by accommodating the needs for novel teaching materials for digital natives.

Climate change is a phenomenon that is sometimes denied or trivialized. However, in recent years, we have faced extreme phenomena such as fires, floods, excessive temperatures, etc. which affect our physical and mental condition and the environment, often leading to significant material damage. To understand these problems and highlight the meteorological and phenomenological changes encountered in the last decade, time series were web-scraped and analyzed from several open data sources: weather news broadcast in Romania, air quality, temperature, etc. The extraction and organization of data recorded between 2009 and 2023 are formulated as a framework that can be reproduced and replicated to continue the monitoring. The exploratory analysis of the categorical and numerical data highlights intricate patterns and correlations within meteorological conditions across regions and seasons. From temperature trends to air quality fluctuations, the study underscores the dynamic interplay of weather phenomena, paving the way for informed forecasting and deeper climate research. At the same time, data processing includes Latent Dirichlet Allocation, K-prototype clustering analysis, in addition to K-means clustering with dimensional reduction techniques, all of which are employed to further reveal the extreme phenomena in news and regions with higher occurrence. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a data processing framework for multiple datasets and analytics, extracting valuable information on climate change and identifying the exposed regions to extreme phenomena.

Multispectral (MS) remote sensing images are of great interest for various applications, yet, quite often, an MS product exhibits one or more noisy bands, strip lines, or even missing bands, which leads to decreased confidence in the information it contains. Meeting this challenge, this article proposes a UNet-based neural network architecture to reconstruct a spectral band. The worst case scenario is considered, that of a missing band, the reconstruction being performed based on the available bands. Besides the comparison with state-of-the-art methods, both the qualitative and quantitative analyses are fulfilled considering several metrics: root-mean-square error, structural similarity index, signal-to-reconstruction error, peak-signal-to-noise ratio, and spectral angle mapper. The experiments focus on Sentinel-2 open data within the Copernicus program. Various patterns of urban areas, agricultural regions, and regions from North Pole or Kyiv, Ukraine are included in our dataset to prove the efficiency of band reconstruction regardless of land-cover diversity.

Small bowel tumors are relatively rare, representing only around 5% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms, with a progressively increasing incidence. Currently, there are no established guidelines for diagnostic approaches, screening procedures, or management strategies for small bowel tumors. We present here the case of a patient with a rare type of metastatic tumor of the small bowel originating from primary lung adenocarcinoma who presented with abdominal pain, severe iron-deficiency anemia, and melena. The initial investigations, gastroscopy and colonoscopy, failed to identify the bleeding source. The obscure bleeding source and diagnosis were achieved through power motorized spiral enteroscopy (MSE), which allowed the visualization and biopsy of the tumor. Histopathological examination established the presence of a poorly differentiated non-mucinous adenocarcinoma originating from the lung. This case is reported to provide evidence of the efficiency of MSE in the diagnosis of small bowel tumors, with the method providing higher insertion depth in a reduced amount of time.

The Covid 19 pandemic has disturbed the whole world and has affected the sectors of activity of all countries, predominantly in a negative way. The first five months of the year 2020 marked the beginning of this pandemic, overshadowing all the world’s nations and influencing, in a way or another, the rhythm and the nature of the population's life. The goal of this article is to present some general aspects of this pandemic, focusing my attention especially on one of the domains that has prospered in this “dark” period regarding the personal life, environment, communication and economy, more exactly on the online commerce. The e-commerce is one of the few domains that gained a lot in this period, registering considerable increases. We can say that the online commerce has become, for most traditional stores, a kind of a lifeline, the respective stores having to implement, if they had not already, or to expand, in an accelerated way, the online sales and at the same time, to introduce services for picking up the so-called "click and collect" purchases on the one hand and home delivery on the other hand. In this article, I have analyzed the way in which the e-commerce has developed in Romania and based on the graphic, I noticed that the pandemic period has registered the largest increase.

Background and Objectives: Skin scaffolding can be done using allografts and autografts. As a biological allograft, the skin of Oreochromis niloticus (ON) has been used due to its high type I and III collagen content. Oreochromis mossambicus (OM) is also a member of the Oreochromis family, but not much is known regarding its collagen content. As such, this study aimed to assess and compare the collagen content of the two fish species. Materials and Methods: This is a crossover study comparing the skin collagen contents of the two fish. Young fish were chosen, as they tend to have higher collagen concentrations. The skin samples were sterilized in chlorhexidine and increasing glycerol solutions and analyzed histochemically with Sirius red picrate under polarized light microscopy. Results: 6 young ON and 4 OM specimens were used. Baseline type I collagen was higher for OM, but at maximum sterilization it was higher for ON, with no differences in between Type III collagen was higher for OM across all comparisons with the exception of the last stage of sterilization. Generally, collagen concentrations were higher in highly sterilized samples. Conclusions: OM skin harvested from young fish, with its greater collagen III content may be a better candidate for use as a biological skin scaffold in the treatment of burn wounds, compared to ON.

Background and Objectives: Preterm birth (PTB) is associated with important neonatal mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the average treatment effects on the treated and the efficacity of various therapeutic interventions for PTB in a cohort of patients with singleton pregnancies and short cervical lengths. Materials and Methods: This observational retrospective study included 1146 singleton pregnancies at risk of PTB that were segregated into the following groups: intravaginal progesterone (group 1), Arabin pessary (group 2), McDonald cerclage (group 3), intravaginal progesterone and Arabin pessary (group 4), and intravaginal progesterone and cerclage (group 5). Their treatment effects were evaluated and compared. Results: All evaluated therapeutic interventions significantly reduced the occurrence of late and early preterm births. The risk of late and early PTB was lowered for those pregnant patients who received progesterone and pessaries or progesterone and cerclage in comparison with those who received only progesterone. The extremely PTB risk of occurrence was significantly lowered only by the administration of progesterone in association with cervical cerclage in comparison with progesterone monotherapy. Conclusions: The combined therapeutic interventions had the highest efficacy in preventing preterm birth. An individualized evaluation is needed to establish the best therapeutic approach in particular cases.

The impact analysis of a multimedia mobile application requires a multi-criteria process of breaking down the complex quality attributes implicated into an educational process conducted with the support offered by the newest mobile device hardware and software capabilities. A separation between attributes of quality is necessary to be done and, consequently, a model of interaction between educational forces should be proposed. From our theoretical model we emphasized a possible correlation between the metric indicator named effectiveness of a multi-media mobile application and a classification order, amongst a series of mobile application, generated by a multi-criterion making decisions mathematical method. We correlated the indi-cator of a general academic performance, previously studied and published, with the effective-ness of a multimedia mobile application and a multi-criteria process of making decisions con-sidering our main objective as being orientated to the goal of finding arguments for a reasona-ble explanation concerning the impact generated by an optimum utilization of a multimedia mobile application. Our contribution is based on a theoretical model which emphasizing simi-larities between the teacher’s role and the mobile technology with multimedia support on behalf regarding a possible path toward a higher academic performance resulted from such a power transition.

Visualization of multispectral images through band selection methods determines an information loss that in utmost cases proves to be critical for the adequate understanding of the represented scene. The R–G–B representation obtained by mapping the visual bands to the R, G, and B channels is highly used due to its great resemblance with the natural color one and aspects perceivable by the human eye. However, despite the similarity in terms of color code, ambiguities between classes such as water and vegetation or atmospheric phenomena like fog, clouds, and smoke that have been penetrated by other bands, remain visible and hinder the process of visualization of the Earth surface. This article presents a set of five different methods to offset the effects caused by ambiguities, fog, light clouds, and smoke by transferring relevant information between bands in order to visually reconstitute those parts of the image affected by atmospheric phenomena. The general concept shared by these methods implies a stacked autoencoder that successfully encompasses the information from all spectral bands into a latent representation used for visualization. Each proposed method is defined by different combination of input and error function formula. Spectral and polar coordinates features represent the possible options for the input, while formulas based on mean squared error or angular spectral distances determine the potential choices in terms of error function definition. The property of angular spectral distance and polar coordinates transformation to obtain illuminant invariant features determined their use in three out of five methods. We evaluate the methods through spectral signature graphical comparison and visual comparison related to the R–G–B representation. We conduct experiments on multiple Sentinel 2 full images.

Background and Objectives: Fetal ovarian cysts (FOCs) are a very rare pathology that can be associated with maternal–fetal and neonatal complications. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of ultrasound characteristics on FOC evolution and therapeutic management. Materials and Methods: We included cases admitted to our perinatal tertiary center between August 2016 and December 2022 with a prenatal or postnatal ultrasound evaluation indicative of FOC. We retrospectively analyzed the pre- and postnatal medical records, sonographic findings, operation protocols, and pathology reports. Results: This study investigated 20 cases of FOCs, of which 17 (85%) were diagnosed prenatally and 3 (15%) postnatally. The mean size of prenatally diagnosed ovarian cysts was 34.64 ± 12.53 mm for simple ovarian cysts and 55.16 ± 21.01 mm for complex ovarian cysts (p = 0.01). The simple FOCs ≤ 4 cm underwent resorption (n = 7, 70%) or size reduction (n = 3, 30%) without complications. Only 1 simple FOC greater than 4 cm reduced its size during follow-up, while 2 cases (66.6%) were complicated with ovarian torsion. Complex ovarian cysts diagnosed prenatally underwent resorption in only 1 case (25%), reduced in size in 1 case (25%), and were complicated with ovarian torsion in 2 cases (50%). Moreover, 2 simple (66.6%) and 1 complex (33.3%) fetal ovarian cysts were postnatally diagnosed. All of these simple ovarian cysts had a maximum diameter of ≤4 cm, and all of them underwent size reduction. The complex ovarian cyst of 4 cm underwent resorption during follow-up. Conclusions: Symptomatic neonatal ovarian cysts, as well as those that grow in size during sonographic follow-up, are in danger of ovarian torsion and should be operated on. Complex cysts and large cysts (with >4 cm diameter) could be followed up unless they become symptomatic or increase in dimensions during serial ultrasounds.

(1) Background: SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy could determine important maternal and fetal complications. We aimed to prospectively assess placental immunohistochemical changes, immunophenotyping alterations, and pregnancy outcomes in a cohort of patients with COVID-19; (2) Methods: 52 pregnant patients admitted to a tertiary maternity center between October 2020 and November 2021 were segregated into two equal groups, depending on the presence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Blood samples, fragments of umbilical cord, amniotic membranes, and placental along with clinical data were collected. Descriptive statistics and a conditional logistic regression model were used for data analysis; (3) Results: Adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preterm labor and neonatal intensive care unit admission did not significantly differ between groups. The immunophenotyping analysis indicated that patients with moderate–severe forms of COVID-19 had a significantly reduced population of T lymphocytes, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells (only numeric), CD4+/CD8+ index, B lymphocytes, and natural killer (NK) cells. Our immunohistochemistry analysis of tissue samples failed to demonstrate positivity for CD19, CD3, CD4, CD8, and CD56 markers; (4) Conclusions: Immunophenotyping analysis could be useful for risk stratification of pregnant patients, while further studies are needed to determine the extent of immunological decidual response in patients with various forms of COVID-19.

Introduction: A renal biopsy represents the gold standard in the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of patients with glomerulonephritis. So far, non-invasive elastographic techniques have not confirmed their utility in replacing a biopsy; however, the new and improved software from Hologic Supersonic Mach 30 is a promising method for assessing the renal tissue’s stiffness and viscosity. We investigated whether this elastography technique could reveal renal tissue fibrosis in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis. Materials and methods: Two-dimensional-shear wave elastography (SWE) PLUS and viscosity plane-wave ultrasound (Vi PLUS) assessments were performed in 40 patients with chronic glomerulopathies before being referred for a renal biopsy. For each kidney, the mean values of five stiffness and viscosity measures were compared with the demographic, biological, and histopathological parameters of the patients. Results: In total, 26 men and 14 women with a mean age of 52.35 ± 15.54 years, a mean estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 53.8 ± 35.49 mL/min/1.73m2, and a mean proteinuria of 6.39 ± 7.42 g/24 h were included after providing their informed consent. Out of 40 kidney biopsies, 2 were uninterpretable with inappropriate material and were divided into four subgroups based on their fibrosis percentage. Even though these elastography techniques were unable to differentiate between separate fibrosis stages, when predicting between the fibrosis and no-fibrosis group, we found a cut-off value of p < 0.001 with 88.89% sensitivity, and a 75% specificity for the 2D SWE PLUS measures and a cut-off value of p < 0.001 with 94% sensitivity, and a 60% specificity for the Vi PLUS measures. We also found a cut-off value of p = 0.0001 with 100% sensitivity, and a 74.29% specificity) and a cut-off value of p = 0.0019 with 60% sensitivity, and a 94.29% specificity) differentiating between patients with over 40% fibrosis and those with under 40%. We also discovered a positive correlation between the glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and 2D-SWE PLUS values (r = 0.7065, p < 0.0001) and Vi PLUS values (r = 0.3637, p < 0.0211). C reactive protein (CRP) correlates with the Vi PLUS measures (r = −0.3695, p = 0.0189) but not with the 2D SWE PLUS measures (r = −0.2431, p = 0.1306). Conclusion: Our findings indicate that this novel elastography method can distinguish between individuals with different stages of renal fibrosis, correlate with the renal function and inflammation, and are easy to use and reproducible, but further research is needed for them to be employed routinely in clinical practice.

- Abstract
IMPORTANCE: Whether F18-choline (FCH) positron emission tomographic (PET)/computed tomographic (CT) scan can replace Tc99m-sestaMIBI (MIBI) single-photon emission (SPE)CT/CT as a first-line imaging technique for preoperative localization of parathyroid adenomas (PTA) in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is unclear. OBJECTIVE: To compare first-line FCH PET/CT vs MIBI SPECT/CT for optimal care in patients with PHPT needing parathyroidectomy and to compare the proportions of patients in whom the first-line imaging method resulted in successful minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP) and normalization of calcemia 1 month after surgery. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A French multicenter randomized open diagnostic intervention phase 3 trial was conducted. Patients were enrolled from November 2019 to May 2022 and participated up to 6 months after surgery. The study included adults with PHPT and an indication for surgical treatment. Patients with previous parathyroid surgery or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) were ineligible. INTERVENTIONS: Patients were assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive first-line FCH PET/CT (FCH1) or MIBI SPECT/CT (MIBI1). In the event of negative or inconclusive first-line imaging, they received second-line FCH PET/CT (FCH2) after MIBI1 or MIBI SPECT/CT (MIBI2) after FCH1. All patients underwent surgery under general anesthesia within 12 weeks following the last imaging. Clinical and biologic (serum calcemia and parathyroid hormone levels) assessments were performed 1 and 6 months after surgery. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The primary outcome was a true-positive first-line imaging-guided MIP combined with uncorrected serum calcium levels of 2.55 mmol/l or less 1 month after surgery, corresponding to the local upper limit of normality. RESULTS: Overall, 57 patients received FCH1 (n = 29) or MIBI1 (n = 28). The mean (SD) age of patients was 62.8 (12.5) years with 15 male (26%) and 42 female (74%) patients. Baseline patient characteristics were similar between groups. Normocalcemia at 1 month after positive first-line imaging-guided MIP was observed in 23 of 27 patients (85%) in the FCH1 group and 14 of 25 patients (56%) in the MIBI1 group. Sensitivity was 82% (95% CI, 62%-93%) and 63% (95% CI, 42%-80%) for FCH1 and MIBI1, respectively. Follow-up at 6 months with biochemical measures was available in 43 patients, confirming that all patients with normocalcemia at 1 month after surgery still had it at 6 months. No adverse events related to imaging and 4 adverse events related to surgery were reported. CONCLUSIONS: This randomized clinical trial found that first-line FCH PET/CT is a suitable and safe replacement for MIBI SPECT/CT. FCH PET/CT leads more patients with PHPT to correct imaging-guided MIP and normocalcemia than MIBI SPECT/CT thanks to its superior sensitivity. Sentinel-2 satellites provide systematic global coverage of land surfaces, measuring physical properties within 13 spectral intervals at a temporal resolution of five days. Computer-based data analysis is highly required to extract similarity by processing and to assist human understanding and semantic annotation in support of mapping Earth's surface. This article proposes a data mining concept that uses advanced data visualization and explainable features to enhance relevant aspects in the Sentinel-2 data and enable semantic analysis. There is a two-stage process. At first, spectral, texture, and physical parameters related features are extracted from the data and included in a learning process that models the data content according to statistical similarities. In parallel, the second processing stage maximizes the data impact on the human visual system to help image understanding and interpretation. Target classes are subject to exploratory visual analysis, such that both visual and latent characteristics are revealed to the user. The concept is further implemented as Sentinel-2 dedicated data analysis (DAS-Tool) plugin for the Sentinel Application Platform and deployed as an open-source tool empowering the Earth observation community with fast and reliable results. Accommodating multiple solutions for each processing phase, the plugin enables flexibility in information extraction and knowledge discovery that will bring the best accuracy in mapping applications. For demonstration purposes, the authors focus on a detailed benchmark against reference data (ground truth) for the Southern region of Romania, then use the selected algorithms in a forest fires scenario analysis for the Sydney region in Australia. The processing involves full-size Sentinel-2 images.

The impact of a multimedia mobile application concerning self-efficacy about personal evaluation on the academic performance is studied with a theoretical model that emulates the interface with a learning and evaluation educational evolution, delivered one after another, with no time separation between them. Our theoretical model offers an introduction of an indicator metric, symbolized in this paper work with acronym PE, as a tool to define a bridge between the time allocated for each of the three stages of an educational process composed by: teaching, practice and evaluation. A dedicated multimedia mobile application was created to be implemented across a sample population of students using a unique theme and four different versions that simulates a decreasing concentration of multimedia contents. In order to start a parallel approach to our indicator metric, PE, we propose utilization of an interpretation supporting vector analysis starting from our assumption that both formal and informal evaluation could be assimilated together with a scalar vector outcome as a resultant force of final evaluation regarding academic performance. This last objective will be considered as a supplementary evidence on behalf of our indicator metric PE. We emphasized two areas in our laboratory experiment, with different patterns regarding educational energy that flows from instructor or teacher reciprocally toward to the learner, with the status of exothermic and endothermic educational activities. Our last educational energy classification will be considered as a teacher person point of view. In this paper the master objective was to observe the moment when an individual learner uses a multimedia mobile application and to explain with multiple regression analysis outcomes observed. We search possible connections between independent variables represented by time coverage of different educational stages and a dependent variable represented by the indicator metric PE and, furthermore, by the resultant of force resulted from formal and informal evaluation.

Serotonin is considered to be the neurotransmitter that controls several types of behavior: aggressiveness, impulsivity, food selection, stimulation, sexual behavior, reaction to pain, and emotional manifestations. The aim of this study was to determine the serotonin values in 43 dogs, divided into three different experimental variants: (1) between two groups of medium (n = 6) and small (n = 4) breed shelter dogs; (2) in dogs with (n = 15) and without (n = 10) owners after administration of pre-spaying/neutering anesthesia; (3) in different behavioral states (n = 8) classified as follows: M1—happy, M2—aggressive, M3—calmed status, post-exposure to a stressful situation, compared to the reference time referred to as M0. There were no significant differences (p ≥ 0.05) regarding the serotonin values between the two groups of medium and small breed shelter dogs. Following anesthesia, the average mean serotonin values were significantly lower (p ≤ 0.003), by 63.85 ng/mL, in stray dogs compared to dogs with owners. No significant differences (p ≥ 0.05) were found when comparing the reference time M0 to M1, M2, and M3. The differences decreased significantly (p ≤ 0.05), by 89.61 ng/mL, between M1 and M2 and increased significantly (p ≤ 0.008), by 112.78 ng/mL, between M2 and M3.

The infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is associated with numerous systemic involvements. Besides the severe respiratory injuries and cardiovascular complications, it became obvious early on that this disease carries an increased risk of thromboembolic events, but a higher propensity for bleedings as well. We researched the medical literature over significant PubMed published articles debating on the prevalence, category of patients, the moment of occurrence, and evolution of venous thromboembolism (VTE), but also of venous and arterial “in situ” thrombosis (AT), and hemorrhagic events as well. Most researchers agree on an increased prevalence of thromboembolic events, ranging between 25 and 31% for VTE, depending on the analyzed population. For AT and hemorrhagic complications lower rates were reported, namely, about 2–3%, respectively, between 4.8 and 8%, occurring mostly in older patients, suffering from moderate/severe forms of COVID-19, with associated comorbidities. It is important to mention that patients suffering from hemorrhages frequently received thromboprophylaxis with anticoagulant drugs. As a consequence of thromboembolic and hemorrhagic complications which are both important negative prognostic factors, the evolution of patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is aggravated, determining an augmented morbidity and mortality of this population.

Background: Infertility is a global burden that affects both sexes with the male component remaining as an explored yet crucial research field that might offer novel evidence. Material and Methods: The present narrative mini-review aims to summarize all existing literature regarding the composition of the seminal microflora in infertile men. We performed searches in PubMed/Medline, ISI Web of Knowledge, Scopus, and ScienceDirect between 2018 and 2022 using a combination of keywords. Results: A total of n = 33 studies met the eligibility criteria and were further considered. From this, n = 14 were conducted on human patients, n = 3 on zebrafish (Danio rerio), n = 5 on rats, and n = 11 on mice. In twenty-five out of thirty-three papers, the authors sequenced the 16S rRNA; situations occurred where researchers focused on standard laboratory protocols. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are widely recognized as putative beneficial lactic bacteria. These two entities are capable of restoring the host’s eubiosis to some extent, blocking pathogens’ proliferation and endotoxins, and even alleviating specific patterns encountered in disease(s) (e.g., obesity, type 1 diabetes) due to prolonged exposure to toxicants in adults or from a developmental stage. Over the years, distinct approaches have been perfected, such as the transfer of feces between two species or conventional rudimentary products with proven efficiency. Conclusions: The seminal microflora is decisive and able to modulate psychological and physiological responses. Each individual possesses a personalized microbial profile further shaped by exogenous factors, regardless of sex and species.

Software quality evaluation for mobile application is a subject with major implications onto educational evaluating process. The place where teacher and his educable person build a temporary social relation is connected to an environment where success is correlated with a mobile-driven mindset. A suitable examination of such mobile learning - environment implies quality characteristics like functional correctness and testability and should be conducted with proper tools if we desire to use mobile learning applications for implementing into a collaborative scenario toward complex classroom events. In this article we are making a raised mark above quality characteristics of mobile learning applications because this is the starting point to acquire a certain comprehension concerning a better utilization of such methods for obtaining knowledge. We construct a potential bridge between two quality characteristics of mobile learning applications to show how to transfer practical results from one quality characteristic toward another to sustain an experimental study with adjacent outline involving mobile programming laboratory curricula. We focus our attention above a software quality metric, the so-called statement code coverage (CC), to obtain a synergic effect between a black-box approach and a white-box technique in order for developing and testing Android mobile applications. For reaching our desideratum we studied scientific papers regarding the complexity of quality characteristics applied to mobile learning applications, from a general to a particular view, to shed light above previous gathering observations concerning our mission. We have a genuine desire to reveal technical instructions needed to be executed in order to obtain a reproducible pattern of a manually testing process, concerning an Android mobile application, conducted by a beta-testing team of users.

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce a new concept, named “one4all” in the realm of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, used by a regional company (particularly a water supplying company) for managing the different views of its users. As a secondary purpose, the paper presents an integration of such an SCADA system with a GIS (Geographical Information System) system. All the regional water supply companies in Romania manage water and wastewater networks, many sensors and actuators, dozens of water pump plants, several water treatment and wastewater plants, tanks and many hydrophores in different parts of their operating range. Due to the wide geographical operating range, an SCADA system needs to be put in place, but the management of such a system in a traditional way is hard to implement, especially when the human resource is low. The methodology presented in this paper, involving adding helper tables and dynamic template windows within an SCADA tool (“one4all” tool), will show how efficiently the human resource can be used. Additionally, the paper shows that companies as described above, can use a single SCADA system that generates different views for all the managed sub regions instead of different systems for every sub region. Implementing only one SCADA system built with the concept “one4all” in mind, and integrating it with a GIS system that is built on the same principle, represents a new approach that will bring value to any organization willing to adopt it. The concept of “one4all”, implemented as a software tool for an SCADA system, is a new concept that will help any developer to easily build applications that generate different views for different users based on their permissions and their operating range. Finally, the paper presents some examples of the same concept, implemented in a different vertical (GIS) and programming language, thus presenting that a “one4all” concept is viable and helpful, bringing value to the information technology industry.

- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Acute fatty liver disease in pregnancy (AFLP) is a low-incidence condition that usually affects women in the third trimester of pregnancy or the early postpartum period. This article reviews recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of AFLP with pancreatitis in pregnancy induced by in vitro fertilization (IVF). CASE REPORT: A rare case of AFLP and pancreatitis occurred in a pregnant woman with an IVF-induced twin pregnancy delivered by cesarean section. Diagnosis of this condition is difficult, and delay in accurate diagnosis and timely and appropriate treatment can lead to serious complications such as acute pancreatitis or extensive damage to multiple organs and systems, which can have significant consequences. The main therapeutic approach was the rapid administration of drugs accompanied by therapeutic measures to support liver function and pancreatic complications. CONCLUSIONS: We would like to reemphasize the importance of multidisciplinary management and rapid intervention in AFLP with acute pancreatitis after IVF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Earth observation (EO) has become a valuable source of comprehensive, reliable, and persistent information for a wide number of applications. However, dealing with the complexity of land cover is sometimes difficult, as the variety of EO sensors reflects in the multitude of details recorded in several types of image data. Their properties dictate the category and nature of the perceptible land structures. The data heterogeneity hampers proper understanding, preventing the definition of universal procedures for content exploitation. The main shortcomings are due to the different human and sensor perception on objects, as well as to the lack of coincidence between visual elements and similarities obtained by computation. In order to bridge these sensory and semantic gaps, the paper presents a compound framework for EO image information extraction. The proposed approach acts like a common ground between the user's understanding, who is visually shortsighted to the visible domain, and the machines numerical interpretation of a much wider information. A hierarchical data representation is considered. At first, basic elements are automatically computed. Then, users can enforce their judgement on the data processing results until semantic structures are revealed. This procedure completes a user-machine knowledge transfer. The interaction is formalized as a dialogue, where communication is determined by a set of parameters guiding the computational process at each level of representation. The purpose is to maintain the data-driven observable connected to the level of semantics and to human awareness. The proposed concept offers flexibility and interoperability to users, allowing them to generate those results that best fit their application scenario. The experiments performed on different satellite images demonstrate the ability to increase the performances in case of semantic annotation by adjusting a set of parameters to the particularities of the analyzed data.

The most enduring appeal of a mobile learning application is to enrich a curriculum regardless a specific domain of study. Mobile technology is a very versatile industry with quick connection to any untethered requirements coming from the realm of teaching activities. This article is dedicated to transfer a general understanding of concepts linked to a statistics course wrapped with a good knowledge and practice about programming languages used in mobile devices. For this objective we are starting a quest for finding relevant references through scientific articles regarding the main practically intertwined features between statistics, programming languages and teaching activities. We are trying to show that developing an Android mobile application is a practical solution that, in a simultaneously way, helps teachers to do a better teaching and evaluating activities and, besides that, speaking about students, we explain that reading, understanding and solving specific issues is a key target. We find that scientific community involved into m-learning subject is convinced that a higher exam scores is obtained, against traditional methods of doing lessons, when an evaluation regarding learning activity occurs. This paper contains the salient facts about creating an Android mobile application considering basic concepts taken from econometrics.

Regularities of competitive market determine rules for determining prices and their dynamics. Orientation prices to competition (competitive pricing) is the strategy most frequently used in countries with market economies and especially for exports. Moreover, in an economy dominated by market competition it cannot be ignored without certain risks the prices resulting from competition between products bidders. Companies that use this type of strategy seek to maintain a level of prices linked to that charged by other competitors (or exporting producers) generally no longer covering production costs or demand, relying on the assumption that the average market price is a reasonable basis of costs. But the way how practical guidance and reporting to the competition in every price strategy, will be determined by the company's market position, by the available power and enjoyed prestige, objectives and prospects of its market share etc. according to these elements, there may be several versions of pricing strategies oriented to competitors.

Serious pathological problems of the hip joint can be solved surgically, in some cases by joint prosthesis. For this reason, it is very important to be able to shape, in a first phase, the components of the prosthesis, which can then be tested virtually. For this purpose, the components of the prosthesis with fixation pins were firstly scanned three-dimensionally. This operation resulted in a model of a "cloud of points" which was subsequently transformed into virtual surfaces, then into virtual solids. These virtually solid components were assembled in a parameterized virtual environment. This prosthesis can be inserted into a biomechanical model of the hip joint and tested using the finite element method. At the end of the paper important conclusions were drawn.

Obesity, sedentarism, and other disadvantages of the modern age have led to the emergence of unknown pathological situations a few centuries before. At the same time, the development of medicine, orthopaedic surgery has led to finding ways to solve these situations. The present paper proves that the use of high-tech methods used in engineering can generate solutions in the field of orthopaedics both for obtaining new prothesis models, but also by creating virtual environments for tests. Several CAD techniques and techniques have been explored, coupled with medical imaging, can provide exciting solutions for obtaining virtual environments that can allow "in vitro" analysis of various normal, pathological or prosthetic joints. In this paper we have detailed how to obtain a prosthetic knee joint in a parameterized environment. This joint was tested virtually. In the final of the paper, main conclusions were made.

Implantology is based on the failure of orthopedic treatment, or cases where orthopedic treatment is incapable of reducing or maintaining, for example, fracture of the femoral neck with movement. The advantage of centromedular fixation is that it allows the bone to physically load as much as possible, minimizing the risk of implant failure. The drawbacks of conventional nails have been eliminated with the introduction of the centromedular stem locking system. The purpose of this study was to obtain several virtual biomechanical systems on which to study several types of tibial fractures and several osteosynthesis systems. Starting from the tomographic images of the tibia, a virtual model of this bone component was developed. This model was "finalized" and modified using certain Geomagic techniques and then imported into SolidWorks. The osteosynthesis element used was the rigid classical nail with orthopedic screws which was modeled using the direct observation and measurement method. It is intended that these virtual components to be used to make orthopedic virtual osteosynthesis systems that are then analyzed in Ansys with the finite element method.

Background and Objectives: Breast cancer (BC) remains one of the major causes of cancer death in women worldwide. The difficulties in assessing the deep molecular mechanisms involved in this pathology arise from its high complexity and diverse tissue subtypes. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were shown to have great tissue specificity, being differentially expressed within the BC tissue subtypes. Materials and Methods: Herein, we performed lncRNA profiling by PCR array in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and luminal A tissue samples from 18 BC patients (nine TNBC and nine luminal A), followed by individual validation in BC tissue and cell lines. Tissue samples were previously archived in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples, and the areas of interest were dissected using laser capture microdissection (LCM) technology. Results: Two lncRNAs (OTX2-AS1 and SOX2OT) were differentially expressed in the profiling analysis (fold change of 205.22 and 0.02, respectively, p < 0.05 in both cases); however, they did not reach statistical significance in the individual validation measurement (p > 0.05) when analyzed with specific individual assays. In addition, GAS5 and NEAT1 lncRNAs were individually assessed as they were previously described in the literature as being associated with BC. GAS5 was significantly downregulated in both TNBC tissues and cell lines compared to luminal A samples, while NEAT1 was significantly downregulated only in TNBC cells vs. luminal A. Conclusions: Therefore, we identified GAS5 lncRNA as having a differential expression in TNBC tissues and cells compared to luminal A, with possible implications in the molecular mechanisms of the TNBC subtype. This proof of principle study also suggests that LCM could be a useful technique for limiting the sample heterogeneity for lncRNA gene expression analysis in BC FFPE tissues. Future studies of larger cohort sizes are needed in order to assess the biomarker potential of lncRNA GAS5 in BC.

- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: A controversy persists over whether or not the type of embryo transfer (ET) influences reproductive outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the reproductive outcomes of pregnant patients undergoing their first in vitro fertilization procedure and explore the influence of various KIR genotypes on these reproductive outcomes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Prospective enrollment of patients with infertility who sought treatment at Origyn Fertility Center in Iasi, Romania, was conducted between January 2019 and March 2023. Descriptive statistics and average treatment effects (ATE) using propensity-score matching were employed to analyze our data. RESULTS: Our results indicated that both groups were homogenous regarding baseline characteristics. When we evaluated the ATE of fresh vs. frozen ET on the main outcomes, we discovered that only frozen ET significantly improved the pregnancy rates (ATE: 0.17, 95% CI: 0.04-0.30, p=0.011) and live birth rates (ATE: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.02-1.19, p=0.03). The miscarriage rates were similar between the two groups. None of the evaluated KIR genotypes had a significant influence on the ATE corresponding to fresh and frozen ET. CONCLUSIONS: KIR screening is not necessary before an IVF cycle, except for specific situations such as recurrent pregnancy loss or recurrent implantation failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Living standards are an indicator mainly economic which can be defined as quantitative aspect of meeting the economic needs of an individual or a community and aims the way how the activity of material and nonmaterial production relates and contributes to meeting the main necessities of life society income. The finality of any kind of economic activity it is the creation of material and spiritual goods which consumed is to increase living standards. Life quality should not be confused with the living standards. Life quality materializes an economic complex process, social and political capture both the premises and the process by which objective and subjective conditions of existence become accessible and positive for humans, living standards target only a sequence of this circuit which represents the only link between the level and quality conditions of social life and the last resultant effect form of living a certain lifestyle. The finality of any kind of economic activity is the creation of material and spiritual goods which consumed lead to the increase living standards. Purchasing power is found in the notions living standards and quality of life.
