2. On the determination of curvature and dynamical Dark Energy

Abstract

Constraining simultaneously the Dark Energy(DE) equation of state and the curvature of the Universe is difficult due to strong degeneracies. To circumvent this problem when analyzing data it is usual to assume flatness to constrain DE, or conversely, to assume that DE is a cosmological constant to constrain curvature. In this paper, we quantify the impact of such assumptions in view of future large surveys. We simulate future data for type Ia Supernovae (SNIa), Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) for a large range of fiducial cosmologies allowing a small spatial curvature. We take into account a possible time evolution of DE through a parameterized equation of state : $w(a) = w_0 + (1-a) w_a$. We then fit the simulated data with a wrong assumption on the curvature or on the DE parameters. For a fiducial $\Lambda$CDM cosmology, if flatness is incorrectly assumed in the fit and if the true curvature is within the ranges $0.01<\Omega_k<0.03$ and $-0.07<\Omega_k<-0.01$, one will conclude erroneously to the presence of an evolving DE, even with high statistics. On the other hand, models with curvature and dynamical DE can be confused with a flat $\Lambda$CDM model when the fit ignores a possible DE evolution. We find that, in the future, with high statistics, such risks of confusion should be limited, but they are still possible, and biases on the cosmological parameters might be important. We conclude on recalling that, in the future, it will be mandatory to perform some complete multi-probes analyses, leaving the DE parameters as well as the curvature as free parameters., Comment: 17 pages, 5 eps figures, final version to be published in JCAP. Abstract

We suggest to use the observationally measured and theoretically justified correlation between size and rotational velocity of galactic discs as a viable method to select a set of high redshift standard rods which may be used to explore the dark energy content of the universe via the classical angular-diameter test. Here we explore a new strategy for an optimal implementation of this test. We propose to use the rotation speed of high redshift galaxies as a standard size indicator and show how high resolution multi-object spectroscopy and ACS/HST high quality spatial images, may be combined to measure the amplitude of the dark energy density parameter, or to constrain the cosmic equation of state parameter for a smooth dark energy component. We evaluate how systematics may affect the proposed tests, and find that a linear standard rod evolution, causing galaxy dimensions to be up to 30% smaller at z=1.5, can be uniquely diagnosed, and will minimally bias the confidence level contours in the [Omega_Q, w] plane. Finally, we show how to derive, without a priori knowing the specific functional form of disc evolution, a cosmology-evolution diagram with which it is possible to establish a mapping between different cosmological models and the amount of galaxy disc/luminosity evolution expected at a given redshift., Comment: 15 pages and 9 figures. Supernovae searches have shown that a simple matter-dominated and decelerating universe should be ruled out. However a determination of the present deceleration parameter $q_0$ through a simple kinematical description is not exempt of possible drawbacks. We show that, with a time dependent equation of state for the dark energy, a bias is present for $q_0$ : models which are very far from the so-called Concordance Model can be accommodated by the data and a simple kinematical analysis can lead to wrong conclusions. We present a revised interpretation of recent analysis of supernovae data. We evaluate the effect of the priors on the extraction of the dark energy equation of state. We find that the conclusions depend strongly on the $\Omega_M$ prior value and on its uncertainty, and show that a biased fitting procedure applied on non concordant simulated data can converge to the "concordance model". Observation of thousands of type Ia supernovae should offer the most direct approach to probe the dark energy content of the universe. This will be undertaken by future large ground-based surveys followed by a space mission (SNAP/JDEM). We address the problem of extracting the cosmological parameters from the future data in a model independent approach, with minimal assumptions on the prior knowledge of some parameters. We concentrate on the comparison between a fiducial model and the fitting function and adress in particular the effect of neglecting (or not) the time evolution of the equation of state. We present a quantitative analysis of the bias which can be introduced by the fitting procedure. We explore the sensitivity and the physics interest of the measurement of parity-violating spin asymmetries in one-jet production in the presence of a new leptophobic neutral gauge boson Z', within polarized hadronic collisions at the BNL RHIC. We focus on polarized neutron collisions which could be achieved in a realistic upgrade of the RHIC-Spin program. Abstract

We relate attempts to use square wave voltammetry (SWV) for the analysis of certain additive in molten silicate glasses. Iron, sulfur, and chromium oxides were investigated; first, individual studies of the compounds allowed us to identify the peak potential for each element at each oxidation state and to correlate the peak currents with the species. Then, with industrial melts, the resulting signal was deconvoluted into single peaks for identification. SWV proved to be a powerful analysis tool in the glass making industry

We examine lepton pair production, studying left-right and forward-backward asymmtries, assuming quark-antiquark and WW fusion production mechanisms. We discuss the uncertainties related to polarized proton structure functions.

The rotational velocity of distant galaxies, when interpreted as a size (luminosity) indicator, may be used as a tool to select high redshift standard rods (candles) and probe world models and galaxy evolution via the classical angular diameter-redshift or Hubble diagram tests. Abstract

We suggest to use the observationally measured and theoretically justified correlation between size and rotational velocity of galactic discs as a viable method to select a set of high redshift standard rods which may be used to explore the dark energy content of the universe via the classical angular-diameter test. Here we explore a new strategy for an optimal implementation of this test. We propose to use the rotation speed of high redshift galaxies as a standard size indicator and show how high resolution multi-object spectroscopy and ACS/HST high quality spatial images, may be combined to measure the amplitude of the dark energy density parameter, or to constrain the cosmic equation of state parameter for a smooth dark energy component. We evaluate how systematics may affect the proposed tests, and find that a linear standard rod evolution, causing galaxy dimensions to be up to 30% smaller at z=1.5, can be uniquely diagnosed, and will minimally bias the confidence level contours in the [Omega_Q, w] plane. Finally, we show how to derive, without a priori knowing the specific functional form of disc evolution, a cosmology-evolution diagram with which it is possible to establish a mapping between different cosmological models and the amount of galaxy disc/luminosity evolution expected at a given redshift., Comment: 15 pages and 9 figures. Abstract

Constraining simultaneously the Dark Energy(DE) equation of state and the curvature of the Universe is difficult due to strong degeneracies. To circumvent this problem when analyzing data it is usual to assume flatness to constrain DE, or conversely, to assume that DE is a cosmological constant to constrain curvature. In this paper, we quantify the impact of such assumptions in view of future large surveys. We simulate future data for type Ia Supernovae (SNIa), Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) for a large range of fiducial cosmologies allowing a small spatial curvature. We take into account a possible time evolution of DE through a parameterized equation of state : $w(a) = w_0 + (1-a) w_a$. We then fit the simulated data with a wrong assumption on the curvature or on the DE parameters. For a fiducial $\Lambda$CDM cosmology, if flatness is incorrectly assumed in the fit and if the true curvature is within the ranges $0.01, Comment: 17 pages, 5 eps figures, final version to be published in JCAP. Supernovae searches have shown that a simple matter-dominated and decelerating universe should be ruled out. However a determination of the present deceleration parameter $q_0$ through a simple kinematical description is not exempt of possible drawbacks. We show that, with a time dependent equation of state for the dark energy, a bias is present for $q_0$ : models which are very far from the so-called Concordance Model can be accommodated by the data and a simple kinematical analysis can lead to wrong conclusions. Abstract

Observation of thousands of type Ia supernovae should offer the most direct approach to probe the dark energy content of the universe. This will be undertaken by future large ground-based surveys followed by a space mission (SNAP/JDEM). We address the problem of extracting the cosmological parameters from the future data in a model independent approach, with minimal assumptions on the prior knowledge of some parameters. We concentrate on the comparison between a fiducial model and the fitting function and adress in particular the effect of neglecting (or not) the time evolution of the equation of state. We present a quantitative analysis of the bias which can be introduced by the fitting procedure. Abstract

We present a revised interpretation of recent analysis of supernovae data. We evaluate the effect of the priors on the extraction of the dark energy equation of state. We find that the conclusions depend strongly on the $\Omega_M$ prior value and on its uncertainty, and show that a biased fitting procedure applied on non concordant simulated data can converge to the "concordance model". 47. Fused Deposition Modeling and microwave sintering of 3Y-TZP samples

Abstract

Fully dense zirconia parts were produced by shaping using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and microwave (MW) sintering. The samples were obtained using an usual 3D printer and a commercial 3 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia filament. The printing parameters were adapted to the printer and the filament. Then, the samples were debinded with a two-step process, i.e., chemical and thermal debinding. The debinded samples were sintered in a multimode microwave instrumented cavity. Full density was achieved with shorter thermal cycles compared with conventional sintering. Dilatometric curves for microwave sintering show similar behavior during densification, as in conventional sintering. The evolution of measured temperature vs time confirms the good control of the thermal cycle allowed by the MW device.

Abstract

We analyze the effects of Scalar and Vector Leptoquarks on various observables in electron (positron) - proton deep inelastic scattering. In view of the future program of the HERA collider, with a high luminosity and also with polarization, we present the constraints that can be reached using this facility for several Leptoquark scenarios. We address the question of the identification of the nature of a discovered Leptoquark. We emphasize the relevance of having polarized lepton and proton beams in order to disentangle completely the various Leptoquark models.
