The current generation of large galaxy surveys will test the cosmological model by combining multiple types of observational probes. Realising the statistical promise of these new datasets requires rigorous attention to all aspects of analysis including cosmological measurements, modelling, covariance and parameter likelihood. In this paper we present the results of an end-to-end simulation study designed to test the analysis pipeline for the combination of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Year 1 galaxy redshift dataset and separate weak gravitational lensing information from the Kilo-Degree Survey, Dark Energy Survey and Hyper-Suprime-Cam Survey. Our analysis employs the 3x2-pt correlation functions including cosmic shear and galaxy-galaxy lensing, together with the projected correlation function of the spectroscopic DESI lenses. We build realistic simulations of these datasets including galaxy halo occupation distributions, photometric redshift errors, weights, multiplicative shear calibration biases and magnification. We calculate the analytical covariance of these correlation functions including the Gaussian, noise and super-sample contributions, and show that our covariance determination agrees with estimates based on the ensemble of simulations. We use a Bayesian inference platform to demonstrate that we can recover the fiducial cosmological parameters of the simulation within the statistical error margin of the experiment, investigating the sensitivity to scale cuts. Several aspects of the internal structure of pseudoscalar mesons, accessible through generalized parton distributions in their zero-skewness limit, are examined. These include electromagnetic and gravitational form factors related to charge and mass densities; and distributions in the impact parameter space. To this end, we employ an algebraically viable framework that is based upon the valence-quark generalized parton distribution expressed explicitly in terms of the associated distribution function and a profile function that governs the off-forward dynamics. The predominantly analytical nature of this scheme yields several algebraic results and relations while also facilitating the exploration of insightful limiting cases. With a suitable input distribution function, guided either by experiment or theory, and with an appropriate choice of the profile function, it is possible to provide testable predictions for spatial distributions of valence quarks inside pseudoscalar mesons. Earthquake early warning systems are crucial for protecting areas that are subject to these natural disasters. An essential part of these systems is the detection procedure. Traditionally these systems work with seismograph data, but high rate GNSS data has become a promising alternative for the usage in large earthquake early warning systems. Besides traditional methods, deep learning approaches have gained recent popularity in this field, as they are able to leverage the large amounts of real and synthetic seismic data. Nevertheless, the usage of deep learning on GNSS data remains a comparatively new topic. This work contributes to the field of early warning systems by proposing an autoencoder based deep learning pipeline that aims to be lightweight and customizable for the detection of anomalies viz. high magnitude earthquakes in GNSS data. This model, DetEQ, is trained using the noise data recordings from nine stations located in Chile. The detection pipeline encompasses: (i) the generation of an anomaly score using the ground truth and reconstructed output from the autoencoder, (ii) the detection of relevant seismic events through an appropriate threshold, and (iii) the filtering of local events, that would lead to false positives. Robustness of the model was tested on the HR GNSS real data of 2011 Mw 6.8 Concepcion earthquake recorded at six stations. The results highlight the potential of GNSS based deep learning models for effective earthquake detection.

Reconstruction of the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) signal has been a standard procedure in BAO analyses over the past decade and has helped to improve the BAO parameter precision by a factor of ~2 on average. The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) BAO analysis for the first year (DR1) data uses the ``standard'' reconstruction framework, in which the displacement field is estimated from the observed density field by solving the linearized continuity equation in redshift space, and galaxy and random positions are shifted in order to partially remove nonlinearities. There are several approaches to solving for the displacement field in real survey data, including the multigrid (MG), iterative Fast Fourier Transform (iFFT), and iterative Fast Fourier Transform particle (iFFTP) algorithms. In this work, we analyze these algorithms and compare them with various metrics including two-point statistics and the displacement itself using realistic DESI mocks. We focus on three representative DESI samples, the emission line galaxies (ELG), quasars (QSO), and the bright galaxy sample (BGS), which cover the extreme redshifts and number densities, and potential wide-angle effects. We conclude that the MG and iFFT algorithms agree within 0.4% in post-reconstruction power spectrum on BAO scales with the RecSym convention, which does not remove large-scale redshift space distortions (RSDs), in all three tracers. The RecSym convention appears to be less sensitive to displacement errors than the RecIso convention, which attempts to remove large-scale RSDs. However, iFFTP deviates from the first two; thus, we recommend against using iFFTP without further development. In addition, we provide the optimal settings for reconstruction for five years of DESI observation. We found two stationary solutions of the parametrically driven, damped nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with nonlinear term proportional to $|\psi(x,t)|^{2 \kappa} \psi(x,t)$ for positive values of $\kappa$. By linearizing the equation around these exact solutions, we derive the corresponding Sturm-Liouville problem. Our analysis reveals that one of the stationary solutions is unstable, while the stability of the other solution depends on the amplitude of the parametric force, damping coefficient, and nonlinearity parameter $\kappa$. An exceptional change of variables facilitates the computation of the stability diagram through numerical solutions of the eigenvalue problem as a specific parameter $\varepsilon$ varies within a bounded interval. For $\kappa <2$ , an {\it oscillatory instability} is predicted analytically and confirmed numerically. Our principal result establishes that for $\kappa \ge 2$, there exists a critical value of $\varepsilon$ beyond which the unstable soliton becomes stable, exhibiting {\it oscillatory stability}., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures

In this study, we present a comprehensive numerical analysis of blood flow within human left ventricle models, with particular emphasis on optimizing simulation conditions to enhance the realism and computational efficiency of heart flow dynamics. The objective is to determine the most effective mesh configurations, flow conditions, and boundary settings necessary for accurately capturing the formation and behavior of the vortex ring, a pivotal element in ventricular flow dynamics. Utilizing a computational fluid mechanics approach, we review the influence of both idealized and patient specific geometries on simulation outcomes. It is imperative to consider the necessity of dynamic wall motion and the precise calibration of inlet and outlet boundary conditions, which must be designed to mimic physiological conditions as accurately as possible. In sunspot umbrae, the core of some chromospheric lines exhibits periodic brightness enhancements known as umbral flashes. The consensus is that they are produced by the upward propagation of shock waves. This view has recently been challenged by the detection of downflowing umbral flashes and the confirmation of the existence of a resonant cavity above sunspots. We aim to determine waves' propagating or standing nature in the low umbral chromosphere and confirm or refute the existence of downflowing umbral flashes. Spectroscopic temporal series of Ca II 8542 \AA, Ca II H, and Halpha in a sunspot were acquired with the Swedish Solar Telescope. The Halpha velocity was inferred using bisectors. Simultaneous inversions of the Ca II 8542 \AA\ line and the Ca II H core were performed using the NICOLE code. The nature of the oscillations and insights into the resonant oscillatory pattern were determined by analyzing the phase shift between the velocity signals and examining the temporal evolution. Propagating waves in the low chromosphere are more common in regions with frequent umbral flashes, where the transition region is shifted upward, making resonant cavity signatures less noticeable. In contrast, areas with fewer umbral flashes show velocity fluctuations that align with standing oscillations. Evidence suggests dynamic changes in the location of velocity resonant nodes due to variations in transition region height. Downflowing profiles appear at the onset of some umbral flashes, but upflowing motion dominates during most of the flash. These downflowing flashes are more common in standing umbral flashes. We confirm the existence of a chromospheric resonant cavity above sunspot umbrae produced by wave reflections at the transition region. Using available information from Drell-Yan data on pion and kaon structure functions, an approach is described which enables the development of pointwise profiles for all pion and kaon parton distribution functions (DFs) without reference to theories of hadron structure. The key steps are construction of structure-function-constrained probability-weighted ensembles of valence DF replicas and use of an evolution scheme for parton DFs that is all-orders exact. The DFs obtained express qualitatively sound features of light-meson structure, e.g., the effects of Higgs boson couplings into QCD and the size of heavy-quark momentum fractions in light hadrons. In order to improve the results, additional and more precise data on the $u$-quark-in-kaon, $u^K$, to $u$-quark-in-pion, $u^\pi$, DF ratio would be necessary. Of greater value would be extraction of $u^K$ alone, thereby avoiding inference from the ratio: currently, the data-based form of $u^K$ is materially influenced by results for $u^\pi$., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables

Background: Dementia, marked by cognitive decline, is a global health challenge. Alzheimer's disease (AD), the leading type, accounts for ~70% of cases. Electroencephalography (EEG) measures show promise in identifying AD risk, but obtaining large samples for reliable comparisons is challenging. Objective: This study integrates signal processing, harmonization, and statistical techniques to enhance sample size and improve AD risk classification reliability. Methods: We used advanced EEG preprocessing, feature extraction, harmonization, and propensity score matching (PSM) to balance healthy non-carriers (HC) and asymptomatic E280A mutation carriers (ACr). Data from four databases were harmonized to adjust site effects while preserving covariates like age and sex. PSM ratios (2:1, 5:1, 10:1) were applied to assess sample size impact on model performance. The final dataset underwent machine learning analysis with decision trees and cross-validation for robust results. Results: Balancing sample sizes via PSM significantly improved classification accuracy, ranging from 0.92 to 0.96 across ratios. This approach enabled precise risk identification even with limited samples. Inferring the coupling of different atmospheric layers requires observing spectral lines sensitive to the atmospheric parameters, particularly the magnetic field vector, at various heights. The best way to tackle this goal is to perform multi-line observations simultaneously. For instance, the new version of the Gregor Infrared Spectrograph instrument offers the possibility to observe the spectral lines at 8542 and 10830 A simultaneously for the first time. The first spectral window contains the Ca II 8542 A spectral line, while the Si I 10827 A transition and He I 10830 A triplet infrared lines can be found in the second spectral window. As the sensitivity to the atmospheric parameters and the height of formation of those transitions is different, combining them can help understand the properties of the solar photosphere and chromosphere and how they are magnetically coupled. Traditionally, the analysis of the Si I 10827 A transition assumes local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE), which is not the best approximation to model this transition. Hence, in this work, we examine the potential of performing non-LTE (NLTE) inversions of the full Stokes vector of the Si I 10827 A spectral line. The results indicate that we properly infer the atmospheric parameters through an extended range of atmospheric layers in comparison with the LTE case (only valid for the spectral line wings, i.e., the low photosphere), with no impact on the robustness of the solution and just a minor increase in computational time. Thus, the NLTE assumption will help to accurately constrain the photospheric physical parameters when performing combined inversions with, e.g., the Ca II 8542 A spectral line., Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, regular paper

The estimation of uncertainties in cosmological parameters is an important challenge in Large-Scale-Structure (LSS) analyses. For standard analyses such as Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and Full Shape, two approaches are usually considered. First: analytical estimates of the covariance matrix use Gaussian approximations and (nonlinear) clustering measurements to estimate the matrix, which allows a relatively fast and computationally cheap way to generate matrices that adapt to an arbitrary clustering measurement. On the other hand, sample covariances are an empirical estimate of the matrix based on en ensemble of clustering measurements from fast and approximate simulations. While more computationally expensive due to the large amount of simulations and volume required, these allow us to take into account systematics that are impossible to model analytically. In this work we compare these two approaches in order to enable DESI's key analyses. We find that the configuration space analytical estimate performs satisfactorily in BAO analyses and its flexibility in terms of input clustering makes it the fiducial choice for DESI's 2024 BAO analysis. On the contrary, the analytical computation of the covariance matrix in Fourier space does not reproduce the expected measurements in terms of Full Shape analyses, which motivates the use of a corrected mock covariance for DESI's Full Shape analysis., Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures 7 tables, submitted to JCAP

We present cosmological constraints on deviations from general relativity (GR) from the first-year of clustering observations from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) in combination with other datasets. We first consider the $\mu(a,k)$-$\Sigma(a,k)$ modified gravity (MG) parametrization (as well as $\eta(a,k)$) in flat $\Lambda$CDM and $w_0 w_a$CDM backgrounds. Using a functional form for time-only evolution gives $\mu_0= 0.11^{+0.44}_{-0.54}$ from DESI(FS+BAO)+BBN and a wide prior on $n_{s}$. Using DESI(FS+BAO)+CMB+DESY3+DESY5-SN, we obtain $\mu_0 = 0.05\pm 0.22$ and $\Sigma_0 = 0.008\pm 0.045$ in the $\Lambda$CDM background. In $w_0 w_a$CDM, we obtain $\mu_0 =-0.24^{+0.32}_{-0.28}$ and $\Sigma_0 = 0.006\pm 0.043$, consistent with GR, and we still find a preference of the data for dynamical dark energy with $w_0>-1$ and $w_a<0$. We then use binned forms in the two backgrounds starting with two bins in redshift and then combining them with two bins in scale for a total of 4 and 8 MG parameters, respectively. All MG parameters are found consistent with GR. We also find that the tension reported for $\Sigma_0$ with GR when using Planck PR3 goes away when we use the recent LoLLiPoP+HiLLiPoP likelihoods. As noted previously, this seems to indicate that the tension is related to the CMB lensing anomaly in PR3 which is also resolved when using these likelihoods. We then constrain the class of Horndeski theory in the effective field theory of dark energy. We consider both EFT-basis and $\alpha$-basis. Assuming a power law parametrization for the function $\Omega$, which controls non-minimal coupling, we obtain $\Omega_0 = 0.012^{+0.001}_{-0.012}$ and $s_0 = 0.996^{+0.54}_{-0.20}$ from DESI(FS+BAO)+DESY5SN+CMB in a $\Lambda$CDM background. We present cosmological results from the measurement of clustering of galaxy, quasar and Lyman-$\alpha$ forest tracers from the first year of observations with the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI Data Release 1). We adopt the full-shape (FS) modeling of the power spectrum, including the effects of redshift-space distortions, in an analysis which has been validated in a series of supporting papers. In the flat $\Lambda$CDM cosmological model, DESI (FS+BAO), combined with a baryon density prior from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and a weak prior on the scalar spectral index, determines matter density to $\Omega_\mathrm{m}=0.2962\pm 0.0095$, and the amplitude of mass fluctuations to $\sigma_8=0.842\pm 0.034$. The addition of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data tightens these constraints to $\Omega_\mathrm{m}=0.3056\pm 0.0049$ and $\sigma_8=0.8121\pm 0.0053$, while further addition of the the joint clustering and lensing analysis from the Dark Energy Survey Year-3 (DESY3) data leads to a 0.4% determination of the Hubble constant, $H_0 = (68.40\pm 0.27)\,{\rm km\,s^{-1}\,Mpc^{-1}}$. In models with a time-varying dark energy equation of state, combinations of DESI (FS+BAO) with CMB and type Ia supernovae continue to show the preference, previously found in the DESI DR1 BAO analysis, for $w_0>-1$ and $w_a<0$ with similar levels of significance. DESI data, in combination with the CMB, impose the upper limits on the sum of the neutrino masses of $\sum m_\nu < 0.071\,{\rm eV}$ at 95% confidence. DESI data alone measure the modified-gravity parameter that controls the clustering of massive particles, $\mu_0=0.11^{+0.45}_{-0.54}$, while the combination of DESI with the CMB and the clustering and lensing analysis from DESY3 constrains both modified-gravity parameters, giving $\mu_0 = 0.04\pm 0.22$ and $\Sigma_0 = 0.044\pm 0.047$, in agreement with general relativity. We present the samples of galaxies and quasars used for DESI 2024 cosmological analyses, drawn from the DESI Data Release 1 (DR1). We describe the construction of large-scale structure (LSS) catalogs from these samples, which include matched sets of synthetic reference `randoms' and weights that account for variations in the observed density of the samples due to experimental design and varying instrument performance. We detail how we correct for variations in observational completeness, the input `target' densities due to imaging systematics, and the ability to confidently measure redshifts from DESI spectra. We then summarize how remaining uncertainties in the corrections can be translated to systematic uncertainties for particular analyses. We describe the weights added to maximize the signal-to-noise of DESI DR1 2-point clustering measurements. We detail measurement pipelines applied to the LSS catalogs that obtain 2-point clustering measurements in configuration and Fourier space. The resulting 2-point measurements depend on window functions and normalization constraints particular to each sample, and we present the corrections required to match models to the data. We compare the configuration- and Fourier-space 2-point clustering of the data samples to that recovered from simulations of DESI DR1 and find they are, generally, in statistical agreement to within 2\% in the inferred real-space over-density field. We analyse the robustness of the DESI 2024 cosmological inference from fits to the full shape of the galaxy power spectrum to uncertainties in the Halo Occupation Distribution (HOD) model of the galaxy-halo connection and the choice of priors on nuisance parameters. We assess variations in the recovered cosmological parameters across a range of mocks populated with different HOD models and find that shifts are often greater than 20% of the expected statistical uncertainties from the DESI data. We encapsulate the effect of such shifts in terms of a systematic covariance term, $\mathsf{C}_{\rm HOD}$, and an additional diagonal contribution quantifying the impact of our choice of nuisance parameter priors on the ability of the effective field theory (EFT) model to correctly recover the cosmological parameters of the simulations. These two covariance contributions are designed to be added to the usual covariance term, $\mathsf{C}_{\rm stat}$, describing the statistical uncertainty in the power spectrum measurement, in order to fairly represent these sources of systematic uncertainty. This approach is more general and robust to choices of model free parameters or additional external datasets used in cosmological fits than the alternative approach of adding systematic uncertainties at the level of the recovered marginalised parameter posteriors. In this work we propose a simple algebraic recursion for the complete one-loop integrands of $N$-graviton correlators. Breast cancer detection is still an open research field, despite a tremendous effort devoted to work in this area. Effect size is a statistical concept that measures the strength of the relationship between two variables on a numeric scale. Feature selection is widely used to reduce the dimensionality of data by selecting only a subset of predictor variables to improve a learning model. In this work, an algorithm and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of developing a statistical feature-selector-based learning tool capable of reducing the data dimensionality using parametric effect size measures from features extracted from cell nuclei images. The SVM classifier with a linear kernel as a learning tool achieved an accuracy of over 90%. In recent years, there has been a surge of interest in studying different ways to reformulate nonconvex optimization problems, especially those that involve binary variables. This interest surge is due to advancements in computing technologies, such as quantum and Ising devices, as well as improvements in quantum and classical optimization solvers that take advantage of particular formulations of nonconvex problems to tackle their solutions. Our research characterizes the equivalence between equality-constrained nonconvex optimization problems and their Lagrangian relaxation, enabling the aforementioned new technologies to solve these problems. In addition to filling a crucial gap in the literature, our results are readily applicable to many important situations in practice. To obtain these results, we bridge between specific optimization problem characteristics and broader, classical results on Lagrangian duality for general nonconvex problems. Further, our approach takes a comprehensive approach to the question of equivalence between problem formulations. We consider this question not only from the perspective of the problem's objective but also from the viewpoint of its solution. This perspective, often overlooked in existing literature, is particularly relevant for problems featuring continuous and binary variables.

The internal structure of the lowest-lying pseudo-scalar mesons with heavy-light quark content is thoroughly studied using an algebraic model that has been successfully applied to similar physical observables of pseudoscalar and vector mesons with hidden-flavor quark content, ranging from light to heavy quark sectors. This model is based on constructing simple and evidence-based ans\"atze for the mesons' Bethe-Salpeter amplitude (BSA) and quark propagator, allowing the Bethe-Salpeter wave function (BSWF) to be computed algebraically. Its projection onto the light front yields the corresponding light-front wave function (LFWF), which provides easy access to the valence-quark Parton Distribution Amplitude (PDA) by integrating over the transverse momentum squared. We leverage our current knowledge of the PDAs of the lowest-lying pseudo-scalar heavy-light mesons to compute their Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) via the overlap representation of the LFWFs. From this three-dimensional information, various limits and projections allow us to deduce the related Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs), Electromagnetic Form Factors (EFFs), and Impact Parameter Space GPDs (IPS-GPDs). Let $S$ be a point set in the plane, $\mathcal{P}(S)$ and $\mathcal{C}(S)$ sets of all plane spanning paths and caterpillars on $S$. We study reconfiguration operations on $\mathcal{P}(S)$ and $\mathcal{C}(S)$. In particular, we prove that all of the commonly studied reconfigurations on plane spanning trees still yield connected reconfiguration graphs for caterpillars when $S$ is in convex position. If $S$ is in general position, we show that the rotation, compatible flip and flip graphs of $\mathcal{C}(S)$ are connected while the slide graph is disconnected. For paths, we prove the existence of a connected component of size at least $2^{n-1}$ and that no component of size at most $7$ can exist in the flip graph on $\mathcal{P}(S)$., Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures

A symmetry-preserving analysis of strong interaction quantum field equations is used to complete a unified treatment of pion, kaon, nucleon electromagnetic and gravitational form factors. Future neuromorphic architectures will require millions of artificial synapses, making understanding the physical mechanisms behind their plasticity functionalities mandatory. In this work, we propose a simplified spin memristor, where the resistance can be controlled by magnetic field pulses, based on a Co/Pt multilayer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy as a synapsis emulator. We demonstrate plasticity and spike time dependence plasticity (STDP) in this device and explored the underlying magnetic mechanisms using Kerr microscopy imaging and Hall magneto-transport measurements. This work introduces a surrogate modeling approach for an emplacement drift of a deep geological repository based on Gaussian Processes (GPs). The surrogate model is used as a substitute for the high-fidelity mechanical model in many-query scenarios, such as time-dependent sensitivity analysis and calibration. Our GP-based approach emulates the behavior of an emplacement drift of a deep geological repository with significantly reduced computational time, enabling faster design iterations and effective incorporation as well as interpretation of monitoring data. This paper presents a novel approach to the analysis of spatial behavior distribution, utilizing weighted Voronoi diagrams. The objective is to map and understand how an experimental subject moves and spends time in various areas of a given space, thus identifying the areas of greatest behavioral interest. The technique entails the partitioning of the space into a grid, the designation of generator points, and the assignment of weights based on the time the subject spends in each region. The data analyzed were derived from multiple experimental sessions in which subjects were exposed to various conditions, including food deprivation, water deprivation, and combined deprivation and no deprivation. The aforementioned conditions resulted in the formation of clearly delineated spatial patterns. Weighted Voronoi diagrams provided a comprehensive and precise representation of these areas of interest, facilitating an in-depth examination of the evolution of behavioral patterns in diverse contexts, such as under different Motivational Operations. We present a nonperturbative study of the form factor associated with the projection of the full four-gluon vertex on its classical tensor, for a set of kinematics with one vanishing and three arbitrary external momenta. The treatment is based on the Schwinger-Dyson equation governing this vertex, and a large-volume lattice simulation, involving ten thousand gauge field configurations. The key hypothesis employed in both approaches is the ``planar degeneracy'', which classifies diverse configurations by means of a single variable, thus enabling their meaningful ``averaging''. The results of both approaches show notable agreement, revealing a considerable suppression of the averaged form factor in the infrared. The deviations from the exact planar degeneracy are discussed in detail, and a supplementary variable is used to achieve a more accurate description. Transient grating spectroscopy has become a mainstay among metal and semiconductor characterization techniques. Here we extend the technique towards the shortest achievable timescales by using tabletop high-harmonic generation of attosecond extreme ultraviolet (XUV) pulses that diffract from transient gratings generated with 500-1000 nm sub-5 fs near-infrared (NIR) pulses. We demonstrate the power of attosecond transient grating spectroscopy (ATGS) by investigating the ultrafast photoexcited dynamics in an Sb semimetal thin film. ATGS provides an element-specific, background-free signal, unfettered by spectral congestion, in contrast to transient absorption spectroscopy. With the ATGS measurements in Sb polycrystalline thin films, we observe the generation of coherent phonons and investigate the lattice and carrier dynamics. Among the latter processes, we extract carrier thermalization, hot carrier cooling, and electron-hole recombination, which are on the order of 20 fs, 50 fs, and 2 ps, timescales, respectively. Furthermore, simultaneous collection of transient absorption and transient grating data allows us to extract the total complex dielectric constant in the sample dynamics, including the real-valued refractive index, from which we are also able to investigate carrier-phonon interactions and longer-lived phonon dynamics. The outlined experimental technique expands the capabilities of transient grating spectroscopy and attosecond spectroscopies by providing a wealth of information concerning carrier and lattice dynamics with an element-selective technique, at the shortest achievable timescales.

The massive binary HDE 228766 is composed of an O type primary and an evolved secondary. However, previous qualitative analyses of the composite spectrum have led to a wide discussion about whether the secondary is an Of or a Wolf-Rayet star. We use new observations and our novel QER20 package to disentangle for the first time the spectra of the two stellar components and obtain artefact free reconstructed spectra, yielding the more accurate and reliable spectral classifications of O7.5 V((f))z for the primary and O6 Iaf for the secondary. The emission features of the P-Cygni profiles of the H\b{eta} and He I 5876 {\AA} lines, present in the reconstructed spectrum of the secondary, show that this star is at an initial phase of its transition to the WN evolutionary stage. A previously unobserved variable emission, composed of at least four independent features, is seen since 2014 superposed to the H{\gamma} absorption line. Our analysis reveals that these emission features originate from a physically extended region. This could be explained by an episode of enhanced mass-loss in the scenario of a non conservative evolution of the binary.

An antiferromagnetic order breaking simultaneously the time-reversal and space-inversion symmetries in topological insulators might give rise to dynamical axion-like fields in the form of longitudinal spin waves. The consequences of the associated axion-polariton state on the thermal radiation are investigated. Planck's radiation law is shown to exhibit remarkable anisotropic behavior as a result of the strong refraction caused by the heat-matter interaction. A crossover scenario at low temperature is identified and an associated regime in which the system's internal energy does not scale with the traditional fourth power of the temperature is revealed. We show that the polarization purity of the heat radiation and its angular distribution can be controlled via the magnetic field, paving the way toward a directional-tunable mechanism for thermal quanta manipulation and storage., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

Our approach provides a cohesive and unified framework for the understanding of the existing generalizations and $q$-analogues of the Graham-Pollak Formula, and facilitates the derivation of a natural simultaneous generalizations for them.

Specific Language Impairment (SLI) is a disorder that affects communication and can affect both comprehension and expression. This study focuses on effectively detecting SLI in children using transcripts of spontaneous narratives from 1063 interviews. A three-stage cascading pipeline was proposed f. In the first stage, feature extraction and dimensionality reduction of the data are performed using the Random Forest (RF) and Spearman correlation methods. In the second stage, the most predictive variables from the first stage are estimated using logistic regression, which is used in the last stage to detect SLI in children from transcripts of spontaneous narratives using a nearest neighbor classifier. The results revealed an accuracy of 97.13% in identifying SLI, highlighting aspects such as the length of the responses, the quality of their utterances, and the complexity of the language. We propose a variational symplectic numerical method for the time integration of dynamical systems issued from the least action principle. We assume a quadratic internal interpolation of the state and we approximate the action in a small time step by the Simpson's quadrature formula. The resulting scheme is explicited for an elementary harmonic oscillator. It is a stable, explicit, and symplectic scheme satisfying the conservation of an approximate energy. We combine the Dyson-Schwinger/Bethe-Salpeter equations framework with modern numerical reconstruction methods to derive the three-dimensional and transverse two-dimensional charge distribution of an array of ground-state pseudoscalar and vector mesons from their elastic electromagnetic form factor in the low-momentum region. The charge radii obtained by averaging over the reconstructed charge distributions have been checked to be consistent with those calculated from the slope of the elastic electromagnetic form factor at zero transferred momentum. The capability of the reconstruction procedure for capturing a reliable low-distance charge distribution is discussed and argued to work down to distances of around 0.1 fm, such that it might be potentially applied to extract, {\it e.g.}, mass densities from gravitational form factors., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures

When measuring the Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) scale from galaxy surveys, one typically assumes a fiducial cosmology when converting redshift measurements into comoving distances and also when defining input parameters for the reconstruction algorithm. A parameterised template for the model to be fitted is also created based on a (possibly different) fiducial cosmology. This model reliance can be considered a form of data compression, and the data is then analysed allowing that the true answer is different from the fiducial cosmology assumed. In this study, we evaluate the impact of the fiducial cosmology assumed in the BAO analysis of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey Data Release 1 (DR1) on the final measurements in DESI 2024 III. We utilise a suite of mock galaxy catalogues with survey realism that mirrors the DESI DR1 tracers: the bright galaxy sample (BGS), the luminous red galaxies (LRG), the emission line galaxies (ELG) and the quasars (QSO), spanning a redshift range from 0.1 to 2.1. We compare the four secondary AbacusSummit cosmologies against DESI's fiducial cosmology (Planck 2018). The secondary cosmologies explored include a lower cold dark matter density, a thawing dark energy universe, a higher number of effective species, and a lower amplitude of matter clustering. The mocks are processed through the BAO pipeline by consistently iterating the grid, template, and reconstruction reference cosmologies. We determine a conservative systematic contribution to the error of $0.1\%$ for both the isotropic and anisotropic dilation parameters $\alpha_{\rm iso}$ and $\alpha_{\rm AP}$. The azimuthal correlation angle, $\Delta\phi$, between the scattered lepton and the leading jet in deep inelastic $e^{\pm}p$ scattering at HERA has been studied using data collected with the ZEUS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 318 \;\mathrm{GeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $326 \;\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$. A measurement of jet cross sections in the laboratory frame was made in a fiducial region corresponding to photon virtuality $10 \;\mathrm{GeV}^2 < Q^2 < 350 \;\mathrm{GeV}^2$, inelasticity $0.04 < y < 0.7$, outgoing lepton energy $E_e > 10 \;\mathrm{GeV}$, lepton polar angle $140^\circ < \theta_e < 180^\circ$, jet transverse momentum $2.5 \;\mathrm{GeV} < p_\mathrm{T,jet} < 30 \;\mathrm{GeV}$, and jet pseudorapidity $-1.5 < \eta_\mathrm{jet} < 1.8$. Jets were reconstructed using the $k_\mathrm{T}$ algorithm with the radius parameter $R = 1$. The leading jet in an event is defined as the jet that carries the highest $p_\mathrm{T,jet}$. Differential cross sections, $d\sigma/d\Delta\phi$, were measured as a function of the azimuthal correlation angle in various ranges of leading-jet transverse momentum, photon virtuality and jet multiplicity. Perturbative calculations at $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_{s}^2)$ accuracy successfully describe the data within the fiducial region, although a lower level of agreement is observed near $\Delta\phi \rightarrow \pi$ for events with high jet multiplicity, due to limitations of the perturbative approach in describing soft phenomena in QCD. The data are equally well described by Monte Carlo predictions that supplement leading-order matrix elements with parton showering.

Chen and Chv\'atal conjectured in 2008 that in any finite metric space either there is a line containing all the points - a universal line -, or the number of lines is at least the number of points. This is a generalization of a classical result due to Erd\H{o}s that says that a set of $n$ non-collinear points in the Euclidean plane defines at least $n$ different lines. A line of a metric space with metric $\rho$ is defined in terms of a notion called the betweenness of the space which is the set of all triples $(x,z,y)$ such that $\rho(x,y)=\rho(x,z)+\rho(z,y)$. In this work we prove that for each $n\geq 4$ there are $p_3(n)$ non isomorphic betweennesses arising from \emph{quasimetric} spaces with $n$ points, without universal lines and with exactly 3 lines, where $p_3(n)$ is the number of partitions of an integer $n$ into three parts. We also prove that for $n\geq 5$, there are $2p_3(n-1)$ non isomorphic betweennesses arising from quasimetric spaces on $n$ points, without universal lines and with exactly 4 lines. Here two betweennesses are isomorphic if they are isomorphic as relational structures. None of the betweennesses mentioned above is metric which implies that Chen and Chv\'atal's conjecture is valid for metric spaces with at most five points., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures

We propose a modified version of the quantum walk-based search algorithm created by Shenvi, Kempe and Whaley, also known as the SKW algorithm. In our version of the algorithm, we modified the evolution operator of the system so that it is composed by the product of the shift operator associated to the $2^n$-complete graph with self-loops and a perturbed coin operator based on the Hadamard operator that works as an oracle for the search. The modified evolution operator leads the opposite behavior as in the original algorithm, that is, the probability to measure the target state is reduced. We call this new behavior the $\textit{search complement}$. Taking a multigraph and matrix approach, we were able to explain that the new algorithm decreases the probability of the target state given that there are less paths that lead towards the node that is associated to the target state in a Unitary Coined Discrete-Time Quantum Walk. The search complement algorithm was executed experimentally on IBM quantum processor $\textit{ibmq_manila}$ obtaining statistical distances $\ell_1\leq 0.0895$ when decreasing the probability of one state out of four.

Pattern classification in electroencephalography (EEG) signals is an important problem in biomedical engineering since it enables the detection of brain activity, particularly the early detection of epileptic seizures. In this paper, we propose a k-nearest neighbors classification for epileptic EEG signals based on a t-location-scale statistical representation to detect spike-and-waves.
