1. Cell Balancing Paradigms: Advanced Types, Algorithms, and Optimization Frameworks

Abstract: The operation efficiency of the electric transportation, energy storage, and grids mainly depends on the fundamental characteristics of the employed batteries. Fundamental variables like voltage, current, temperature, and estimated parameters, like the State of Charge (SoC) of the battery pack, influence the functionality of the system. This motivates the implementation of a Battery Management System (BMS), critical for managing and maintaining the health, safety, and performance of a battery pack. This is ensured by measuring parameters like temperature, cell voltage, and pack current. It also involves monitoring insulation levels and fire hazards, while assessing the prevailing useful life of the batteries and estimating the SoC and State of Health (SoH). Additionally, the system manages and controls key activities like cell balancing and charge/discharge processes. Thus functioning of the battery can be optimised, by guaranteeing the vital parameters to be well within the prescribed range. This article discusses the several cell balancing schemes, and focuses on the intricacies of cell balancing algorithms and optimisation methods for cell balancing. We begin surveying recent cell balancing algorithms and then provide selection guidelines taking into account their advantages, disadvantages, and applications. Abstract: Multimodal foundation models, such as Gemini and ChatGPT, have revolutionized human-machine interactions by seamlessly integrating various forms of data. Developing a universal spoken language model that comprehends a wide range of natural language instructions is critical for bridging communication gaps and facilitating more intuitive interactions. However, the absence of a comprehensive evaluation benchmark poses a significant challenge. We present Dynamic-SUPERB Phase-2, an open and evolving benchmark for the comprehensive evaluation of instruction-based universal speech models. Building upon the first generation, this second version incorporates 125 new tasks contributed collaboratively by the global research community, expanding the benchmark to a total of 180 tasks, making it the largest benchmark for speech and audio evaluation. While the first generation of Dynamic-SUPERB was limited to classification tasks, Dynamic-SUPERB Phase-2 broadens its evaluation capabilities by introducing a wide array of novel and diverse tasks, including regression and sequence generation, across speech, music, and environmental audio. Evaluation results indicate that none of the models performed well universally. SALMONN-13B excelled in English ASR, while WavLLM demonstrated high accuracy in emotion recognition, but current models still require further innovations to handle a broader range of tasks. We will soon open-source all task data and the evaluation pipeline.

3. PEPSI's non-detection of escaping hydrogen and metal lines adds to the enigma of WASP-12 b

Abstract: WASP-12 b is an ultra-hot Jupiter (UHJ) of special interest for atmospheric studies since it is on an inspiraling orbit in an extreme environment of intense radiation and circumstellar gas. Previously claimed detections of active mass loss from this planet are controversial across the literature. To address this controversy, we obtain two new transit observations of WASP-12 b with the optical high-resolution PEPSI spectrograph on the Large Binocular Telescope. Contrary to previous work, we do not observe planetary H$\alpha$ absorption and rule out the amplitude of previously reported detections. Our non-detection may be limited by the sensitivity of our data or could indicate weaker mass loss than suggested by previous studies. We conduct injection-recovery experiments to place constraints on the radial extent of WASP-12 b's escaping atmosphere as probed by Balmer lines, but find that our data do not have the sensitivity to probe down to the planet's Roche Lobe. Using physically motivated models of atmospheric escape, we explore upper limit constraints on the planet's mass-loss rate and deem the data quality in the wavelength regime of Balmer lines insufficient to determine a physically meaningful constraint. We also conduct a spectral survey of other optical absorbers to trace atmospheric circulation but detect no additional absorption. We conclude that previous claims of H$\alpha$ absorption from the atmosphere of WASP-12 b should be reevaluated. Given the anticipated line strength of Balmer/optical features, observing the atmosphere of this faint target will require stacking more observations even with the largest telescope facilities available., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication to MNRAS

4. Lines of Bound States in the Continuum in a Phononic Crystal Slab

Abstract: We demonstrate that bound states in the continuum (BICs) form continuous lines along high-symmetry directions of momentum space in a simple phononic crystal slab. Contrary to common sense, these BICs are symmetry-protected (SP) BICs not only at the center of the Brillouin zone (gamma point) but also off the gamma point. We utilize numerical simulations, a group theory method, and a mode expansion method to comprehensively understand the formation of the BICs. It is revealed that these BICs correspond to phase singularity lines of far-field radiation, and the phase winding number can be defined as a topological index. This makes the BICs topologically protected and robust to any parameter variation that maintains periodicity and rotational symmetry. Finally, the generation of the BICs lines is experimentally demonstrated.

5. GE2E-KWS: Generalized End-to-End Training and Evaluation for Zero-shot Keyword Spotting

Abstract: We propose GE2E-KWS -- a generalized end-to-end training and evaluation framework for customized keyword spotting. Specifically, enrollment utterances are separated and grouped by keywords from the training batch and their embedding centroids are compared to all other test utterance embeddings to compute the loss. This simulates runtime enrollment and verification stages, and improves convergence stability and training speed by optimizing matrix operations compared to SOTA triplet loss approaches. To benchmark different models reliably, we propose an evaluation process that mimics the production environment and compute metrics that directly measure keyword matching accuracy. Trained with GE2E loss, our 419KB quantized conformer model beats a 7.5GB ASR encoder by 23.6% relative AUC, and beats a same size triplet loss model by 60.7% AUC. Abstract: We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave transients associated with core-collapse supernova SN 2023ixf, which was observed in the galaxy Messier 101 via optical emission on 2023 May 19th, during the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA 15th Engineering Run. We define a five-day on-source window during which an accompanying gravitational-wave signal may have occurred. No gravitational waves have been identified in data when at least two gravitational-wave observatories were operating, which covered $\sim 14\%$ of this five-day window. We report the search detection efficiency for various possible gravitational-wave emission models. Considering the distance to M101 (6.7 Mpc), we derive constraints on the gravitational-wave emission mechanism of core-collapse supernovae across a broad frequency spectrum, ranging from 50 Hz to 2 kHz where we assume the GW emission occurred when coincident data are available in the on-source window. Considering an ellipsoid model for a rotating proto-neutron star, our search is sensitive to gravitational-wave energy $1 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2$ and luminosity $4 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2/\text{s}$ for a source emitting at 50 Hz. These constraints are around an order of magnitude more stringent than those obtained so far with gravitational-wave data. The constraint on the ellipticity of the proto-neutron star that is formed is as low as $1.04$, at frequencies above $1200$ Hz, surpassing results from SN 2019ejj., Comment: Main paper: 6 pages, 4 figures and 1 table. Abstract: This paper presents a systematic review of the infrastructure requirements for deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) on-device within the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), focusing on both hardware and software perspectives. From the hardware viewpoint, we discuss the utilization of processing units like GPUs and TPUs, efficient memory and storage solutions, and strategies for effective deployment, addressing the challenges of limited computational resources typical in SME settings. From the software perspective, we explore framework compatibility, operating system optimization, and the use of specialized libraries tailored for resource-constrained environments. The review is structured to first identify the unique challenges faced by SMEs in deploying LLMs on-device, followed by an exploration of the opportunities that both hardware innovations and software adaptations offer to overcome these obstacles. 8. Active-Dormant Attention Heads: Mechanistically Demystifying Extreme-Token Phenomena in LLMs

Abstract: Practitioners have consistently observed three puzzling phenomena in transformer-based large language models (LLMs): attention sinks, value-state drains, and residual-state peaks, collectively referred to as extreme-token phenomena. These phenomena are characterized by certain so-called "sink tokens" receiving disproportionately high attention weights, exhibiting significantly smaller value states, and having much larger residual-state norms than those of other tokens. These extreme tokens give rise to various challenges in LLM inference, quantization, and interpretability. We elucidate the mechanisms behind extreme-token phenomena. First, we show that these phenomena arise in very simple architectures -- transformers with one to three layers -- trained on a toy model, the Bigram-Backcopy (BB) task. In this setting, we identify an active-dormant mechanism, where attention heads become sinks for specific input domains while remaining non-sinks for others. Our theoretical analysis of the training dynamics reveals that these phenomena are driven by a mutual reinforcement mechanism. Building on these insights, we propose strategies to mitigate extreme-token phenomena during pretraining, including replacing softmax with ReLU and Adam with SGD. Next, we extend our analysis to pretrained LLMs, including Llama and OLMo, showing that many attention heads exhibit a similar active-dormant mechanism as in the BB task, and that the mutual reinforcement mechanism also governs the emergence of extreme-token phenomena during LLM pretraining. Our results reveal that many of the static and dynamic properties of extreme-token phenomena predicted by the BB task align with observations in pretrained LLMs.

Abstract: In the 6G Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm, unprecedented challenges will be raised to provide massive connectivity, ultra-low latency, and energy efficiency for ultra-dense IoT devices. To address these challenges, we explore the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based grant-free random access (GFRA) schemes in the cellular uplink to support massive IoT devices with high spectrum efficiency and low access latency. In particular, we focus on optimizing the backoff strategy of each device when transmitting time-sensitive data samples to a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-enabled base station subject to energy constraints. To cope with the dynamic varied channel and the severe uplink interference due to the uncoordinated grant-free access, we formulate the optimization problem as a multi-user non-cooperative dynamic stochastic game (MUN-DSG). To avoid dimensional disaster as the device number grows large, the optimization problem is transformed into a mean field game (MFG), and its Nash equilibrium can be achieved by solving the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) and Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov (FPK) equations. Thus, a Mean Field-based Dynamic Backoff (MFDB) scheme is proposed as the optimal GFRA solution for each device. Extensive simulation has been fulfilled to compare the proposed MFDB with contemporary random access approaches like access class barring (ACB), slotted-Additive Links On-line Hawaii Area (ALOHA), and minimum backoff (MB) under both static and dynamic channels, and the results proved that MFDB can achieve the least access delay and cumulated cost during multiple transmission frames. 10. Grassmann tensor renormalization group approach to $(1+1)$-dimensional two-color lattice QCD at finite density

Abstract: We construct a Grassmann tensor network representing the partition function of (1+1)-dimensional two-color QCD with staggered fermions. The Grassmann path integral is rewritten as the trace of a Grassmann tensor network by introducing two-component auxiliary Grassmann fields on every edge of the lattice. We introduce an efficient initial tensor compression scheme to reduce the size of initial tensors. The Grassmann bond-weighted tensor renormalization group approach is adopted to evaluate the quark number density, fermion condensate, and diquark condensate at different gauge couplings as a function of the chemical potential. Different transition behavior is observed as the quark mass is varied. We discuss the efficiency of our initial tensor compression scheme and the future application toward the corresponding higher-dimensional models.

Abstract: The magnetar SGR 1935+2154 is the only known Galactic source of fast radio bursts (FRBs). FRBs from SGR 1935+2154 were first detected by CHIME/FRB and STARE2 in 2020 April, after the conclusion of the LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA Collaborations' O3 observing run. Here we analyze four periods of gravitational wave (GW) data from the GEO600 detector coincident with four periods of FRB activity detected by CHIME/FRB, as well as X-ray glitches and X-ray bursts detected by NICER and NuSTAR close to the time of one of the FRBs. We do not detect any significant GW emission from any of the events. Instead, using a short-duration GW search (for bursts $\leq$ 1 s) we derive 50\% (90\%) upper limits of $10^{48}$ ($10^{49}$) erg for GWs at 300 Hz and $10^{49}$ ($10^{50}$) erg at 2 kHz, and constrain the GW-to-radio energy ratio to $\leq 10^{14} - 10^{16}$. We also derive upper limits from a long-duration search for bursts with durations between 1 and 10 s. Abstract: Here we report on the first measurements of the $\gamma$-ray strength functions and nuclear level densities of ${}^{112,114}$Sn performed at the 9~MV Tandem accelerator facilities at IFIN-HH using the Oslo method. We extract thermodynamic properties as well as both gross and fine properties of the pygmy dipole resonance for systematic comparison in the chain of Sn isotopes. The results are compared with microscopic models implemented in the TALYS reaction code, and the fully microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model for the underlying nuclear structure of the dipole strength in ${}^{112,114}$Sn. The experimental data and theoretical results are further included into the cross-section and reaction rate calculations for the $(\mathrm{n},\gamma)$ production reaction of the $p$-process nuclei ${}^{112,114}$Sn showing a significant increase in reaction rates at high temperatures compared to existing nuclear databases., Comment: 21 pages, 17 figures

13. Harmonically Induced Shape Morphing of Bistable Buckled Beam with Static Bias

Abstract: We investigate the effect of a constant static bias force on the dynamically induced shape morphing of a pre-buckled bistable beam, focusing on the beam's ability to change its vibration to be near different stable states under harmonic excitation. Our study explores four categories of oscillatory motions: switching, reverting, vacillating, and intra-well in the parameter space. We aim to achieve transitions between stable states of the pre-buckled bistable beam with minimal excitation amplitude. Our findings demonstrate the synergistic effects between dynamic excitation and static bias force, showing a broadening of the non-fractal region for switching behavior (i.e., switching from the first stable state to the second stable state) in the parameter space. This study advances the understanding of the dynamics of key structural components for multi-stable mechanical metamaterials, offering new possibilities for novel designs in adaptive applications.

14. Dissipative $\Lambda$CDM model with causal sign-switching bulk viscous pressure

Abstract: Extending the standard $\Lambda$CDM model by considering dissipative effects within a causal viscous framework, and obtaining an analytical solution for the Hubble parameter remains a challenge in the literature. In this work, we resolve this dilemma by deriving a complete and original solution for the Hubble parameter by introducing a novel form for the bulk viscous coefficient associated with bulk viscous dark matter (vDM). A thorough analysis of the model is conducted by deriving theoretical constraints on the parameters and comparing the model with the latest observational data sets. Intriguingly, we find that the model predicts a sign-switching bulk viscous pressure, which facilitates both the early decelerated expansion and the late accelerated expansion of the universe. Also, the redshift at which the viscous pressure switches sign is found to be strongly correlated with the relaxation time parameter of the viscous fluid. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that, the model satisfies both the covariant and generalized second law of thermodynamics as well as the convexity condition for entropy. Additionally, we reconstructed the model by unifying viscous dark matter and dark energy into a single unified dark matter (UDM) component, and found that this unified model predicts identical dynamical evolution for the Universe, while satisfying the necessary near-equilibrium condition throughout that evolution (both in early and late phases)., Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures

15. Explorations in Designing Virtual Environments for Remote Counselling

Abstract: The advent of technology-enhanced interventions has significantly transformed mental health services, offering new opportunities for delivering psychotherapy, particularly in remote settings. This paper reports on a pilot study exploring the use of Virtual Reality (VR) as a medium for remote counselling. The study involved four experienced psychotherapists who evaluated three different virtual environments designed to support remote counselling. Through thematic analysis of interviews and feedback, we identified key factors that could be critical for designing effective virtual environments for counselling. These include the creation of clear boundaries, customization to meet specific therapeutic needs, and the importance of aligning the environment with various therapeutic approaches. Our findings suggest that VR can enhance the sense of presence and engagement in remote therapy, potentially improving the therapeutic relationship. In the paper we also outline areas for future research based on these pilot study results.

16. An Effective Context-Balanced Adaptation Approach for Long-Tailed Speech Recognition

Abstract: End-to-end (E2E) automatic speech recognition (ASR) models have become standard practice for various commercial applications. However, in real-world scenarios, the long-tailed nature of word distribution often leads E2E ASR models to perform well on common words but fall short in recognizing uncommon ones. Recently, the notion of a contextual adapter (CA) was proposed to infuse external knowledge represented by a context word list into E2E ASR models. Although CA can improve recognition performance on rare words, two crucial data imbalance problems remain. First, when using low-frequency words as context words during training, since these words rarely occur in the utterance, CA becomes prone to overfit on attending to the token due to higher-frequency words not being present in the context list. Second, the long-tailed distribution within the context list itself still causes the model to perform poorly on low-frequency context words. In light of this, we explore in-depth the impact of altering the context list to have words with different frequency distributions on model performance, and meanwhile extend CA with a simple yet effective context-balanced learning objective. A series of experiments conducted on the AISHELL-1 benchmark dataset suggests that using all vocabulary words from the training corpus as the context list and pairing them with our balanced objective yields the best performance, demonstrating a significant reduction in character error rate (CER) by up to 1.21% and a more pronounced 9.44% reduction in the error rate of zero-shot words., Comment: Accepted by SLT 2024

Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Abstract: The keyword spotting (KWS) problem requires large amounts of real speech training data to achieve high accuracy across diverse populations. Utilizing large amounts of text-to-speech (TTS) synthesized data can reduce the cost and time associated with KWS development. However, TTS data may contain artifacts not present in real speech, which the KWS model can exploit (overfit), leading to degraded accuracy on real speech. To address this issue, we propose applying an adversarial training method to prevent the KWS model from learning TTS-specific features when trained on large amounts of TTS data. Experimental results demonstrate that KWS model accuracy on real speech data can be improved by up to 12% when adversarial loss is used in addition to the original KWS loss. 19. Potential and Limitation of High-Frequency Cores and Caches

Abstract: This paper explores the potential of cryogenic semiconductor computing and superconductor electronics as promising alternatives to traditional semiconductor devices. As semiconductor devices face challenges such as increased leakage currents and reduced performance at higher temperatures, these novel technologies offer high performance and low power computation. Conventional semiconductor electronics operating at cryogenic temperatures (below -150{\deg}C or 123.15 K) can benefit from reduced leakage currents and improved electron mobility. On the other hand, superconductor electronics, operating below 10 K, allow electrons to flow without resistance, offering the potential for ultra-low-power, high-speed computation. This study presents a comprehensive performance modeling and analysis of these technologies and provides insights into their potential benefits and limitations. We implement models of in-order and out-of-order cores operating at high clock frequencies associated with superconductor electronics and cryogenic semiconductor computing in gem5. We evaluate the performance of these components using workloads representative of real-world applications like NPB, SPEC CPU2006, and GAPBS. Our results show the potential speedups achievable by these components and the limitations posed by cache bandwidth. This work provides valuable insights into the performance implications and design trade-offs associated with cryogenic and superconductor technologies, laying the foundation for future research in this field using gem5.

20. Centralization in Attester-Proposer Separation

Abstract: We show that Execution Tickets and Execution Auctions dramatically increase centralization in the market for block proposals, even without multi-block MEV concerns. Previous analyses have insufficiently or incorrectly modeled the interaction between ahead-of-time auctions and just-in-time (JIT) auctions. We study a model where bidders compete in an execution auction ahead of time, and then the winner holds a JIT auction to resell the proposal rights when the slot arrives. During the execution auction, bidders only know the distribution of their valuations. Bidders then draw values from their distributions and compete in the JIT auction. We show that a bidder who wins the execution auction is substantially advantaged in the JIT auction since they can set a reserve price higher than their own realized value for the slot to increase their revenue. As a result, there is a strong centralizing force in the execution auction, which allows the ex-ante strongest bidder to win the execution auction every time, and similarly gives them the strongest incentive to buy up all the tickets. Similar results trivially apply if the resale market is imperfect, since that only reinforces the advantages of the ex-ante strong buyer. To reiterate, these results do not require the bidders to employ multi-block MEV strategies, although if they did, it would likely amplify the centralizing effects.

21. How much should you pay for restaking security?

Abstract: Restaking protocols have aggregated billions of dollars of security by utilizing token incentives and payments. A natural question to ask is: How much security do restaked services \emph{really} need to purchase? To answer this question, we expand a model of Durvasula and Roughgarden [DR24] that includes incentives and an expanded threat model consisting of strategic attackers and users. Our model shows that an adversary with a strictly submodular profit combined with strategic node operators who respond to incentives can avoid the large-scale cascading failures of~[DR24]. We utilize our model to construct an approximation algorithm for choosing token-based incentives that achieve a given security level against adversaries who are bounded in the number of services they can simultaneously attack. Our results suggest that incentivized restaking protocols can be secure with proper incentive management.

Abstract: This paper explores the use of TTS synthesized training data for KWS (keyword spotting) task while minimizing development cost and time. Keyword spotting models require a huge amount of training data to be accurate, and obtaining such training data can be costly. In the current state of the art, TTS models can generate large amounts of natural-sounding data, which can help reducing cost and time for KWS model development. Still, TTS generated data can be lacking diversity compared to real data. To pursue maximizing KWS model accuracy under the constraint of limited resources and current TTS capability, we explored various strategies to mix TTS data and real human speech data, with a focus on minimizing real data use and maximizing diversity of TTS output. 23. Enhancing search pipelines for short gravitational wave transients with Gaussian mixture modelling

Abstract: We present an enhanced method for the application of Gaussian Mixture Modelling (GMM) to the coherent WaveBurst (cWB) algorithm in the search for short-duration gravitational wave (GW) transients. The supervised Machine Learning method of GMM allows for the multi-dimensional distributions of noise and signal to be modelled over a set of representative attributes, which aids in the classification of GW signals against noise transients (glitches) in the data. We demonstrate that updating the approach to model construction eliminates bias previously seen in the GMM analysis, increasing the robustness and sensitivity of the analysis over a wider range of burst source populations. The enhanced methodology is applied to the generic burst all-sky short search in the LIGO-Virgo full third observing run (O3), marking the first application of GMM to the 3 detector Livingston-Hanford-Virgo network. For both 2- and 3- detector networks, we observe comparable sensitivities to an array of generic signal morphologies, with significant sensitivity improvements to waveforms in the low Quality factor parameter space at false alarm rates of 1 per 100 years. This proves that GMM can effectively mitigate blip glitches, which are one of the most problematic sources of noise for un-modelled GW searches. The cWB-GMM search recovers similar numbers of compact binary coalescence (CBC) events as other cWB post-production methods, and concludes on no new gravitational wave detection after known CBC events are removed., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures. 24. Synth4Kws: Synthesized Speech for User Defined Keyword Spotting in Low Resource Environments

Abstract: One of the challenges in developing a high quality custom keyword spotting (KWS) model is the lengthy and expensive process of collecting training data covering a wide range of languages, phrases and speaking styles. We introduce Synth4Kws - a framework to leverage Text to Speech (TTS) synthesized data for custom KWS in different resource settings. With no real data, we found increasing TTS phrase diversity and utterance sampling monotonically improves model performance, as evaluated by EER and AUC metrics over 11k utterances of the speech command dataset. In low resource settings, with 50k real utterances as a baseline, we found using optimal amounts of TTS data can improve EER by 30.1% and AUC by 46.7%. Furthermore, we mix TTS data with varying amounts of real data and interpolate the real data needed to achieve various quality targets. Abstract: We present Polynomial Attention Drop-in Replacement (PADRe), a novel and unifying framework designed to replace the conventional self-attention mechanism in transformer models. Notably, several recent alternative attention mechanisms, including Hyena, Mamba, SimA, Conv2Former, and Castling-ViT, can be viewed as specific instances of our PADRe framework. PADRe leverages polynomial functions and draws upon established results from approximation theory, enhancing computational efficiency without compromising accuracy. PADRe's key components include multiplicative nonlinearities, which we implement using straightforward, hardware-friendly operations such as Hadamard products, incurring only linear computational and memory costs. PADRe further avoids the need for using complex functions such as Softmax, yet it maintains comparable or superior accuracy compared to traditional self-attention. We assess the effectiveness of PADRe as a drop-in replacement for self-attention across diverse computer vision tasks. These tasks include image classification, image-based 2D object detection, and 3D point cloud object detection. Empirical results demonstrate that PADRe runs significantly faster than the conventional self-attention (11x ~ 43x faster on server GPU and mobile NPU) while maintaining similar accuracy when substituting self-attention in the transformer models.

26. PEPSI Investigation, Retrieval, and Atlas of Numerous Giant Atmospheres (PIRANGA). I. The Ubiquity of Fe I Emission and Inversions in Ultra Hot Jupiter Atmospheres

Abstract: We present high-resolution optical emission spectroscopy observations of the ultra hot Jupiters (UHJs) TOI-1431 b and TOI-1518 b using the PEPSI spectrograph on the LBT. We detect emission lines from Fe I with a significance of 5.40$\sigma$ and 7.85$\sigma$ for TOI 1431 b and TOI-1518 b, respectively. We also detect Cr I emission from TOI-1431 b at $4.23\sigma$. For TOI-1518 b, we tentatively detect Ni I, Fe I, and Mg I, as well as possibly CaH, at significance levels ranging from $3-4\sigma$. Detection of emission lines indicates that both planets possess temperature inversions in their atmospheres, providing further evidence of the ubiquity of stratospheres among UHJs. By analyzing the population of hot Jupiters, we compare models that predict the distribution of planets in the temperature-gravity space, and find a recent global circulation model suite from Roth et al. (2024) provides a reasonable match, if TiO is not included in the models. The ubiquity of strong Fe I emission lines among UHJs, together with the paucity of detections of TiO, suggest that atomic iron is the dominant optical opacity source in their atmospheres and can be responsible for the inversions., Comment: Submitted to AAS Journals. 18 pages, 8 figures

27. Mid-Infrared Variability in Nearby Galaxies from the MaNGA Sample

Abstract: We use mid-infrared variability in galaxies to search for active galactic nuclei (AGN) in the local universe. We use a sample of 10,220 galaxies from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey, part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV). For each galaxy, we examine its mid-infrared variability in the $W2$ $[4.6\mu m]$ band over thirteen years using data from the Wide Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) All-Sky and Near Earth Objects WISE (NEOWISE) missions. We demonstrate that we can detect variability signatures as small as about $7\%$ in the root-mean-square variation of $W2$ flux for the majority of cases. Using other AGN signatures of the variable galaxies, such as optical narrow lines, optical broad lines, and WISE $W1-W2$ colors, we show that $\sim 75\%$ of the variables show these additional AGN signatures, indicating that the bulk of these cases are likely to be AGN. We also identify seven galaxies that have light-curves characteristic of tidal disruption events. 28. Dynamics of Heatwave Intensification over the Indian Region

Abstract: In a warming world, heatwaves over India have become intense and are causing severe health impacts. Studies have identified the presence of amplified Rossby waves and their association with the intensification of heatwaves. Earlier studies have identified two dominant modes of temperature variability in India and their possible role in the development of dry (mode 1) and moist (mode 2) heatwaves. These modes are associated with midlatitude Rossby waves intruding over the Indian region. However the role of regional forcing and the teleconnection behind the intensification of the heatwaves over India is missing. The present study has analyzed the dynamical mechanisms for the regional intensification of the circulation features associated with the dominant moist heatwave mode (mode 2). Considering the predominant barotropic nature of the observed circulation features of the mode, a simple barotropic vorticity equation model forced with extratropical and regional vorticity sources is used to understand the intensification of the heat waves. It was found that a wave response initiated by a cyclonic vorticity over the Bay of Bengal superimposes with the mid-latitude anticyclonic vorticity generated Rossby waves intruding over India. This superimposition results in the amplification and persistence of the anticyclonic vorticity phase over the Northwest Indian region, leading to the intensification of circulation. It was also found that the barotropically forced intensified circulation leads to the intensification of the heat stress. Under a climate change scenario, different circulation regimes, characterized by zonal stationary wave number and jet speed, which can favor the intensification are also identified.

29. Dark Superabsorbers with Dirac-delta-like superdirective radiation

Abstract: We theoretically and numerically reveal that under a given level of extinction cross section and with definite angular momentum channels dominant, there exists a physical limitation for absorption cross section being maximum and scattering cross section being minimum. In addition, any scattering systems operated at this condition would be accompanied by a needle Dirac-delta-like far-field radiation pattern, reducing to perturb the background field except in the forward direction. We therefore refer to this outcome as dark superabsorbers. Moreover, by considering the mathematical Gibbs phenomenon, we find that a completely equivalent Dirac-delta far-field radiation is excluded even we could properly design the scatterers operated at such conditions. We believe this finding has potential applications in design of dark energy harvesting, lower-visibility receivers, superdirective light-matter interaction, and Fresnel diffractive imaging.

Abstract: Maximum Manifold Capacity Representations (MMCR) is a recent multi-view self-supervised learning (MVSSL) method that matches or surpasses other leading MVSSL methods. MMCR is intriguing because it does not fit neatly into any of the commonplace MVSSL lineages, instead originating from a statistical mechanical perspective on the linear separability of data manifolds. In this paper, we seek to improve our understanding and our utilization of MMCR. To better understand MMCR, we leverage tools from high dimensional probability to demonstrate that MMCR incentivizes alignment and uniformity of learned embeddings. We then leverage tools from information theory to show that such embeddings maximize a well-known lower bound on mutual information between views, thereby connecting the geometric perspective of MMCR to the information-theoretic perspective commonly discussed in MVSSL. To better utilize MMCR, we mathematically predict and experimentally confirm non-monotonic changes in the pretraining loss akin to double descent but with respect to atypical hyperparameters. We also discover compute scaling laws that enable predicting the pretraining loss as a function of gradients steps, batch size, embedding dimension and number of views. We then show that MMCR, originally applied to image data, is performant on multimodal image-text data. By more deeply understanding the theoretical and empirical behavior of MMCR, our work reveals insights on improving MVSSL methods.

Abstract: Universality often emerges in low-energy equilibrium physics of quantum many-body systems, despite their microscopic complexity and variety. Recently, there has been a growing interest in studying far-from-equilibrium dynamics of quantum many-body systems. Such dynamics usually involves highly excited states beyond the traditional low-energy theory description. Whether universal behaviors can also emerge in such non-equilibrium dynamics is a central issue at the frontier of quantum dynamics. Here we report the experimental observation of universal dynamics by monitoring the spin depolarization process in a solid-state NMR system described by an ensemble of randomly interacting spins. The spin depolarization can be related to temporal spin-spin correlation functions at high temperatures. We discover a remarkable phenomenon that these correlation functions obey a universal functional form. This experimental fact helps us identify the dominant interacting processes in the spin depolarization dynamics that lead to this universality. 32. Optimizing Exit Queues for Proof-of-Stake Blockchains: A Mechanism Design Approach

Abstract: Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus protocols have provable safety and liveness properties for static validator sets. In practice, however, the validator set changes over time, potentially eroding the protocol's security guarantees. For example, systems with accountable safety may lose some of that accountability over time as adversarial validators exit. As a result, protocols must rate limit entry and exit so that the set changes slowly enough to ensure security. Here, the system designer faces a fundamental trade-off. Slower exits increase friction, making it less attractive to stake in the first place. Faster exits provide more utility to stakers but weaken the protocol's security. This paper provides the first systematic study of exit queues for Proof-of-Stake blockchains. Given a collection of validator-set consistency constraints imposed by the protocol, the social planner's goal is to provide a constrained-optimal mechanism that minimizes disutility for the participants. We introduce the MINSLACK mechanism, a dynamic capacity first-come-first-served queue in which the amount of stake that can exit in a period depends on the number of previous exits and the consistency constraints. We show that MINSLACK is optimal when stakers equally value the processing of their withdrawal. When stakers values are heterogeneous, the optimal mechanism resembles a priority queue with dynamic capacity. However, this mechanism must reserve exit capacity for the future in case a staker with a much higher need for liquidity arrives. We conclude with a survey of known consistency constraints and highlight the diversity of existing exit mechanisms.

33. Batch-in-Batch: a new adversarial training framework for initial perturbation and sample selection

Abstract: Adversarial training methods commonly generate independent initial perturbation for adversarial samples from a simple uniform distribution, and obtain the training batch for the classifier without selection. In this work, we propose a simple yet effective training framework called Batch-in-Batch (BB) to enhance models robustness. It involves specifically a joint construction of initial values that could simultaneously generates $m$ sets of perturbations from the original batch set to provide more diversity for adversarial samples; and also includes various sample selection strategies that enable the trained models to have smoother losses and avoid overconfident outputs. Through extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets (CIFAR-10, SVHN, CIFAR-100) with two networks (PreActResNet18 and WideResNet28-10) that are used in both the single-step (Noise-Fast Gradient Sign Method, N-FGSM) and multi-step (Projected Gradient Descent, PGD-10) adversarial training, we show that models trained within the BB framework consistently have higher adversarial accuracy across various adversarial settings, notably achieving over a 13% improvement on the SVHN dataset with an attack radius of 8/255 compared to the N-FGSM baseline model. Furthermore, experimental analysis of the efficiency of both the proposed initial perturbation method and sample selection strategies validates our insights. 34. Benign Nonconvex Landscapes in Optimal and Robust Control, Part II: Extended Convex Lifting

Abstract: Many optimal and robust control problems are nonconvex and potentially nonsmooth in their policy optimization forms. In Part II of this paper, we introduce a new and unified Extended Convex Lifting (ECL) framework to reveal hidden convexity in classical optimal and robust control problems from a modern optimization perspective. Our ECL offers a bridge between nonconvex policy optimization and convex reformulations, enabling convex analysis for nonconvex problems. Despite non-convexity and non-smoothness, the existence of an ECL not only reveals that minimizing the original function is equivalent to a convex problem but also certifies a class of first-order non-degenerate stationary points to be globally optimal. Therefore, no spurious stationarity exists in the set of non-degenerate policies. This ECL framework can cover many benchmark control problems, including state feedback linear quadratic regulator (LQR), dynamic output feedback linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control, and $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ robust control. ECL can also handle a class of distributed control problems when the notion of quadratic invariance (QI) holds. We further show that all static stabilizing policies are non-degenerate for state feedback LQR and $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ control under standard assumptions. We believe that the new ECL framework may be of independent interest for analyzing nonconvex problems beyond control.

35. Spectroscopy and modeling of $^{171}$Yb Rydberg states for high-fidelity two-qubit gates

Abstract: We present multichannel quantum defect (MQDT) models for highly excited $^{174}$Yb and $^{171}$Yb Rydberg states with $L \leq 2$. The models are developed using a combination of existing literature data and new, high-precision laser and microwave spectroscopy in an atomic beam, and validated by detailed comparison with experimentally measured Stark shifts and magnetic moments. We then use these models to compute interaction potentials between two Yb atoms, and find excellent agreement with direct measurements in an optical tweezer array. From the computed interaction potential, we identify an anomalous F\"orster resonance that likely degraded the fidelity of previous entangling gates in $^{171}$Yb using $F=3/2$ Rydberg states. We then identify a more suitable $F=1/2$ state, and achieve a state-of-the-art controlled-Z gate fidelity of $\mathcal{F}=0.994(1)$, with the remaining error fully explained by known sources. This work establishes a solid foundation for the continued development quantum computing, simulation and entanglement-enhanced metrology with Yb neutral atom arrays.

36. Logical Reasoning with Relation Network for Inductive Knowledge Graph Completion

Abstract: Inductive knowledge graph completion (KGC) aims to infer the missing relation for a set of newly-coming entities that never appeared in the training set. Such a setting is more in line with reality, as real-world KGs are constantly evolving and introducing new knowledge. Recent studies have shown promising results using message passing over subgraphs to embed newly-coming entities for inductive KGC. However, the inductive capability of these methods is usually limited by two key issues. (i) KGC always suffers from data sparsity, and the situation is even exacerbated in inductive KGC where new entities often have few or no connections to the original KG. (ii) Cold-start problem. It is over coarse-grained for accurate KG reasoning to generate representations for new entities by gathering the local information from few neighbors. To this end, we propose a novel iNfOmax RelAtion Network, namely NORAN, for inductive KG completion. It aims to mine latent relation patterns for inductive KG completion. Specifically, by centering on relations, NORAN provides a hyper view towards KG modeling, where the correlations between relations can be naturally captured as entity-independent logical evidence to conduct inductive KGC. 37. A Global Geometric Analysis of Maximal Coding Rate Reduction

Abstract: The maximal coding rate reduction (MCR$^2$) objective for learning structured and compact deep representations is drawing increasing attention, especially after its recent usage in the derivation of fully explainable and highly effective deep network architectures. However, it lacks a complete theoretical justification: only the properties of its global optima are known, and its global landscape has not been studied. In this work, we give a complete characterization of the properties of all its local and global optima, as well as other types of critical points. Specifically, we show that each (local or global) maximizer of the MCR$^2$ problem corresponds to a low-dimensional, discriminative, and diverse representation, and furthermore, each critical point of the objective is either a local maximizer or a strict saddle point. Such a favorable landscape makes MCR$^2$ a natural choice of objective for learning diverse and discriminative representations via first-order optimization methods. Abstract: Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM., Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures

41. COVID-19 Pandemic and Autism Spectrum Disorder, Consequences to Children and Adolescents -- A Systematic Review

Abstract: In this systematic review, we aimed to identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children/adolescents with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The protocol was registered on PROSPERO CRD42021255848. Articles were selected from PubMed, Embase, and LILACS according to these characteristics: patients from zero to 18 years old, exposed to the COVID-19 pandemic, impact on social communication/interaction and restricted/repetitive behavior domains. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess methodological quality and the risk of bias. Of the 351 articles initially identified, 26 were finally included with information on 8,610 patients. Although the studies were heterogeneous, they indicated that the pandemic-related issues experienced by patients with ASD were mostly manifested in their behavior and sleep patterns.

Abstract: Controlling the principal African malaria vector, the mosquito Anopheles gambiae, is considered essential to curtail malaria transmission. However, existing vector control technologies rely on insecticides, which are becoming increasingly ineffective. Sterile insect technique (SIT) is a powerful suppression approach that has successfully eradicated a number of insect pests, yet the A. gambiae toolkit lacks the requisite technologies for its implementation. SIT relies on iterative mass releases of nonbiting, nondriving, sterile males which seek out and mate with monandrous wild females. Once mated, females are permanently sterilized due to mating-induced refractoriness, which results in population suppression of the subsequent generation. However, sterilization by traditional methods renders males unfit, making the creation of precise genetic sterilization methods imperative. Here, we introduce a vector control technology termed precision-guided sterile insect technique (pgSIT), in A. gambiae for inducible, programmed male sterilization and female elimination for wide-scale use in SIT campaigns. Using a binary CRISPR strategy, we cross separate engineered Cas9 and gRNA strains to disrupt male-fertility and female-essential genes, yielding >99.5% male sterility and >99.9% female lethality in hybrid progeny. We demonstrate that these genetically sterilized males have good longevity, are able to induce sustained population suppression in cage trials, and are predicted to eliminate wild A. gambiae populations using mathematical models, making them ideal candidates for release. This work provides a valuable addition to the malaria genetic biocontrol toolkit, enabling scalable SIT-like confinable, species-specific, and safe suppression in the species.

Abstract: Vitamin B12 is critical for hematopoiesis and myelination. Deficiency can cause neurologic deficits including loss of coordination and cognitive decline. However, diagnosis relies on measurement of vitamin B12 in the blood, which may not accurately reflect the concentration in the brain. Using programmable phage display, we identified an autoantibody targeting the transcobalamin receptor (CD320) in a patient with progressive tremor, ataxia, and scanning speech. Anti-CD320 impaired cellular uptake of cobalamin (B12) in vitro by depleting its target from the cell surface. Despite a normal serum concentration, B12 was nearly undetectable in her cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Immunosuppressive treatment and high-dose systemic B12 supplementation were associated with increased B12 in the CSF and clinical improvement. Optofluidic screening enabled isolation of a patient-derived monoclonal antibody that impaired B12 transport across an in vitro model of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Autoantibodies targeting the same epitope of CD320 were identified in seven other patients with neurologic deficits of unknown etiology, 6% of healthy controls, and 21.4% of a cohort of patients with neuropsychiatric lupus. In 132 paired serum and CSF samples, detection of anti-CD320 in the blood predicted B12 deficiency in the brain. However, these individuals did not display any hematologic signs of B12 deficiency despite systemic CD320 impairment. Using a genome-wide CRISPR screen, we found that the low-density lipoprotein receptor serves as an alternative B12 uptake pathway in hematopoietic cells. These findings dissect the tissue specificity of B12 transport and elucidate an autoimmune neurologic condition that may be amenable to immunomodulatory treatment and nutritional supplementation.

44. Shoulder Bone Segmentation with DeepLab and U-Net

Abstract: Evaluation of the 3D bone morphology of the glenohumeral joint is necessary for pre-surgical planning. Zero echo time (ZTE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides excellent bone contrast and can potentially be used in the place of computed tomography. Segmentation of the shoulder anatomy, particularly the humeral head and the acetabulum, is needed for the detailed assessment of each anatomy and for pre-surgical preparation. In this study, we compared the performance of two popular deep learning models based on Google’s DeepLab and U-Net to perform automated segmentation on ZTE MRI of human shoulders. Axial ZTE images of normal shoulders (n = 31) acquired at 3-Tesla were annotated for training with DeepLab and 2D U-Net, and the trained model was validated with testing data (n = 13). While both models showed visually satisfactory results for segmenting the humeral bone, U-Net slightly over-estimated while DeepLab under-estimated the segmented area compared to the ground truth. Testing accuracy quantified by Dice score was significantly higher (p < 0.05) for U-Net (88%) than DeepLab (81%) for the humeral segmentation. We have also implemented the U-Net model onto an MRI console for push-button DL segmentation processing. Although this is an early work with limitations, our approach has the potential to improve shoulder MR evaluation hindered by manual post-processing and may provide clinical benefit for quickly visualizing bones of the glenohumeral joint.

Abstract: Insertion sequence (IS) elements are the simplest autonomous transposable elements found in prokaryotic genomes1. We recently discovered that IS110 family elements encode a recombinase and a non-coding bridge RNA (bRNA) that confers modular specificity for target DNA and donor DNA through two programmable loops2. Here we report the cryo-electron microscopy structures of the IS110 recombinase in complex with its bRNA, target DNA and donor DNA in three different stages of the recombination reaction cycle. The IS110 synaptic complex comprises two recombinase dimers, one of which houses the target-binding loop of the bRNA and binds to target DNA, whereas the other coordinates the bRNA donor-binding loop and donor DNA. We uncovered the formation of a composite RuvC-Tnp active site that spans the two dimers, positioning the catalytic serine residues adjacent to the recombination sites in both target and donor DNA. A comparison of the three structures revealed that (1) the top strands of target and donor DNA are cleaved at the composite active sites to form covalent 5-phosphoserine intermediates, (2) the cleaved DNA strands are exchanged and religated to create a Holliday junction intermediate, and (3) this intermediate is subsequently resolved by cleavage of the bottom strands. Overall, this study reveals the mechanism by which a bispecific RNA confers target and donor DNA specificity to IS110 recombinases for programmable DNA recombination.

Abstract: Genomic rearrangements, encompassing mutational changes in the genome such as insertions, deletions or inversions, are essential for genetic diversity. These rearrangements are typically orchestrated by enzymes that are involved in fundamental DNA repair processes, such as homologous recombination, or in the transposition of foreign genetic material by viruses and mobile genetic elements1,2. Here we report that IS110 insertion sequences, a family of minimal and autonomous mobile genetic elements, express a structured non-coding RNA that binds specifically to their encoded recombinase. This bridge RNA contains two internal loops encoding nucleotide stretches that base-pair with the target DNA and the donor DNA, which is the IS110 element itself. We demonstrate that the target-binding and donor-binding loops can be independently reprogrammed to direct sequence-specific recombination between two DNA molecules. This modularity enables the insertion of DNA into genomic target sites, as well as programmable DNA excision and inversion. The IS110 bridge recombination system expands the diversity of nucleic-acid-guided systems beyond CRISPR and RNA interference, offering a unified mechanism for the three fundamental DNA rearrangements-insertion, excision and inversion-that are required for genome design.

47. Scaling White-Box Transformers for Vision

Abstract: CRATE, a white-box transformer architecture designed to learn compressed and sparse representations, offers an intriguing alternative to standard vision transformers (ViTs) due to its inherent mathematical interpretability. Despite extensive investigations into the scaling behaviors of language and vision transformers, the scalability of CRATE remains an open question which this paper aims to address. Specifically, we propose CRATE-$\alpha$, featuring strategic yet minimal modifications to the sparse coding block in the CRATE architecture design, and a light training recipe designed to improve the scalability of CRATE. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that CRATE-$\alpha$ can effectively scale with larger model sizes and datasets. For example, our CRATE-$\alpha$-B substantially outperforms the prior best CRATE-B model accuracy on ImageNet classification by 3.7%, achieving an accuracy of 83.2%. Meanwhile, when scaling further, our CRATE-$\alpha$-L obtains an ImageNet classification accuracy of 85.1%. More notably, these model performance improvements are achieved while preserving, and potentially even enhancing the interpretability of learned CRATE models, as we demonstrate through showing that the learned token representations of increasingly larger trained CRATE-$\alpha$ models yield increasingly higher-quality unsupervised object segmentation of images. 48. Learning from Litigation: Graphs and LLMs for Retrieval and Reasoning in eDiscovery

Abstract: Electronic Discovery (eDiscovery) involves identifying relevant documents from a vast collection based on legal production requests. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) has transformed this process, helping document review and enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Although traditional approaches like BM25 or fine-tuned pre-trained models are common in eDiscovery, they face performance, computational, and interpretability challenges. In contrast, Large Language Model (LLM)-based methods prioritize interpretability but sacrifice performance and throughput. This paper introduces DISCOvery Graph (DISCOG), a hybrid approach that combines the strengths of two worlds: a heterogeneous graph-based method for accurate document relevance prediction and subsequent LLM-driven approach for reasoning. Graph representational learning generates embeddings and predicts links, ranking the corpus for a given request, and the LLMs provide reasoning for document relevance. Our approach handles datasets with balanced and imbalanced distributions, outperforming baselines in F1-score, precision, and recall by an average of 12%, 3%, and 16%, respectively. 49. Reconciling Safety Measurement and Dynamic Assurance

Abstract: We propose a new framework to facilitate dynamic assurance within a safety case approach by associating safety performance measurement with the core assurance artifacts of a safety case. The focus is mainly on the safety architecture, whose underlying risk assessment model gives the concrete link from safety measurement to operational risk. Using an aviation domain example of autonomous taxiing, we describe our approach to derive safety indicators and revise the risk assessment based on safety measurement. 50. The CAP Principle for LLM Serving: A Survey of Long-Context Large Language Model Serving

Abstract: We survey the large language model (LLM) serving area to understand the intricate dynamics between cost-efficiency and accuracy, which is magnified by the growing need for longer contextual understanding when deploying models at a massive scale. Our findings reveal that works in this space optimize along three distinct but conflicting goals: improving serving context length (C), improving serving accuracy (A), and improving serving performance (P). Drawing inspiration from the CAP theorem in databases, we propose a CAP principle for LLM serving, which suggests that any optimization can improve at most two of these three goals simultaneously. Our survey categorizes existing works within this framework. We find the definition and continuity of user-perceived measurement metrics are crucial in determining whether a goal has been met, akin to prior CAP databases in the wild. We recognize the CAP principle for LLM serving as a guiding principle, rather than a formal theorem, to inform designers of the inherent and dynamic trade-offs in serving models. As serving accuracy and performance have been extensively studied, this survey focuses on works that extend serving context length and address the resulting challenges.
