Abstract

The subfamily Rutelinae reaches its greatest development in the neotropical region where the group is represented by 5 of the 6 known tribes (Blackwelder, 1944). In the United States and Canada only the two tribes Anomalini and Rutelini are represented but there is always the possibility that larvae of some species belonging to another tribe may be introduced as were larvae of the Japanese beetle, Popilliu japonica Newman, and the oriental beetle, Anomala orientalis (Waterhouse), both belonging to the tribe Anomalini. The injurious Chinese rose beetle, Adoretus sinicus Burmeister, is now well established in the Hawaiian Islands and from there might be carried to our west coast.

The meeting was called to order at 9:30 A.M. by President. H. M. Armitage in the Continental Ballroom of the Peabody Hotel. The invocation was given by the Reverend W. Chester Keller, Pastor of the Woodland Presbyterian Church in Memphis. A welcoming address by the Honorable Edmund Orgill, Mayor of Memphis was well received. Preliminary announcements were made by the Executive Secretary, R. H. Nelson, the Chairman of the Local Arrangements Committee , H. G. Johnston, the Chairman of the Exhibits Committee , Harrold B. Jones, and the Chairman of the Program Committee , E. N. Woodbury.

Abstract

The new Intemational Code of Zoological Nomenclature was published late last year (November 6, 1961), and most use and study of it have come during the current year. The Chairman outlined controversial areas and possible questions, compiled the reactions of Committee members, and drafted and submitted statements to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. A number of amendments to the Code are said to have been proposed, and presumably these will be published in the Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature during the coming months. These should be studied by the Committee 1963, preparatory to their consideration at the XVI International Congress of Zoology at Washington, D. c., August 1963.

Abstract

In April, 1954, grub damage to golf fairways at Eugene, Oregon, was called to the attention of the writers by Mr. Howard, greenskeeper of the Eugene Country Club. He indicated that some 125 to 150 acres of turf were affected. Grubs found beneath the injured sod were identified as Aphodius spp.
