Facial nerve dysfunction (FND) is a well-recognized but poorly documented complication of mandibular distraction osteogenesis (MDO) for Robin sequence (RS). This study aims to document the authors' experiences with FND and identify risk factors associated with this adverse event. A retrospective review of a prospectively gathered database was performed to identify patients with RS who underwent MDO at the authors' institution from March 2016 to June 2023. The authors included all infants with at least 3 months of follow-up after device removal. Data collected included patient demographics, incidence, laterality and onset of FND, and time to resolution. Thirty-six patients met the inclusion criteria. The median age at MDO was 2.7 (interquartile range: 0.7, 129) months. The median latency, distraction, and consolidation phases were 3.0 days, 17.5 days, and 77.5 days, respectively. The median length of distraction was 19.8 (interquartile range: 11, 30) mm. Thirteen infants (36.1%) demonstrated FND. While the majority (n = 10, 27.8%) experienced temporary palsy with a mean time to resolution of 98.6 (± 124.3) days, 3 infants (8.3%) had persistent FND at a mean of 29.3 (±35.6) months after hardware removal. The majority of FND occurred during the distraction phase and involved the marginal mandibular nerve. The current study demonstrated that over 1/3 of patients with RS experience FND after MDO. Most cases of FND were transient and occurred during the active distraction phase.

Purpose To describe and analyze characteristics and trends of pediatric ocular trauma during 2011–2020.Methods Retrospective descriptive study. Data were collected on all pediatric ocular trauma cases that presented to a Rambam Health Care Campus during 2011–2020. Data included age, gender, visual acuity, diagnosis, injury mechanism and surgical repair.Results Median BCVA at presentation was 0.96 (logMAR). Males and non-adolescent males specifically were the most prominent groups (70.6% and 44.7%, respectively). The ratio of ocular trauma cases to total pediatric emergency department (ED) visits was stable during 2011–2020 (p= 0.714) regardless of gender (p= 0.832 and p= 0.545 for boys and girls, respectively). The leading causes were partial thickness eyelid laceration, periorbital hematoma, and extraocular muscle contusion, all of which were stable over the study period (p= 0.678, p= 0.203 and p= 0.398, respectively). Falls and children play were the most common mechanisms (25.8% and 18.4%, respectively), but differed between age groups. Most patients did not require consecutive operation and were treated conservatively (p< 0.01).Conclusion Pediatric ocular injuries to pediatric ED visits ratio remained stable during 2011–2020, regardless of gender. Non-adolescent males accounted for nearly half of all cases, with different mechanisms for each age group. Consecutive surgery was rarely necessary.

Background: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and related dystrophinopathies are neuromuscular conditions with great unmet medical needs that require the development of effective medical treatments.Objective: To aid sponsors in clinical development of drugs and therapeutic biological products for treating DMD across the disease spectrum by integrating advancements, patient registries, natural history studies, and more into a comprehensive guidance.Methods: This guidance emerged from collaboration between the FDA, the Duchenne community, and industry stakeholders. It entailed a structured approach, involving multiple committees and boards. From its inception in 2014, the guidance underwent revisions incorporating insights from gene therapy studies, cardiac function research, and innovative clinical trial designs.Results: The guidance provides a deeper understanding of DMD and its variants, focusing on patient engagement, diagnostic criteria, natural history, biomarkers, and clinical trials. It underscores patient-focused drug development, the significance of dystrophin as a biomarker, and the pivotal role of magnetic resonance imaging in assessing disease progression. Additionally, the guidance addresses cardiomyopathy’s prominence in DMD and the burgeoning field of gene therapy.Conclusions: The updated guidance offers a comprehensive understanding of DMD, emphasizing patient-centric approaches, innovative trial designs, and the importance of biomarkers. The focus on cardiomyopathy and gene therapy signifies the evolving realm of DMD research. It acts as a crucial roadmap for sponsors, potentially leading to improved treatments for DMD.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of cultural orientations (performance and sociality) on the trajectories of innovation inputs and their results in different countries worldwide between 2011 and 2021. Design/methodology/approach: As a technique for data analysis, one of the spatial Bayesian models and Gray forecasting methods is used. This technique is adequate to achieve the objectives of the investigation because it allows analyzing how the variables move in time ranges and allow the generation of forecasts. This model also allows knowing if there are spills, which investing in a country can positively affect countries with geographical proximity. The databases used were the Global Innovation Index with data from 131 nations and the Globe Project with data from 157 countries between 2011 and 2021. The variables analyzed are institutions, human capital, research infrastructure, market sophistication and business sophistication. On the other hand, regarding moderations of cultural orientations, The Globe Project developed two factors: performance orientation (high degree of masculinity, avoidance of ambiguity, power distance and future orientation) and humane orientation (high-level of femininity, institutional and societal collectivism). Findings: The results reveal that all inputs grow at different rates over time. In the case of institutions, it is the most difficult to generate changes over time. However, human capital, market sophistication and business sophistication are the ones that have grown the most over time, regardless of the country’s cultural orientation. Research limitations/implications: Among the main limitations is the set of data used because it only considers one approach to culture, especially the one considered by Hofstede. However, other approaches could help evaluate the results of this research. Considering the results obtained, the study attempts to provide a different view of the effects of cultural variables on companies’ innovation performance in different countries in the world. In the same way, evaluating these effects allows firms to consider variables associated with the country that will affect the strategies and performance of the firm. Practical implications: The results achieved make it possible to strengthen the analysis of the countries’ strategies when it comes to innovation, especially in the permanent evaluation of the results that allow to encourage changes in the execution of innovative activities to maintain their performance over time. Social implications: The contributions allow us to understand the dynamics of innovation in the knowledge and creative outputs of countries over time. Originality/value: The trajectory analysis used in the data analysis is perhaps one of the most robust techniques that makes a time series analysis. This allows identifying trajectories for the independent variables of the study and their influence on the innovation of the country.

An essential aspect of developing virtual content today is improving the user experience by reducing the adverse effects of using new technologies. In this way, this paper aims to analyze the moderating effects of consumer awareness and mindfulness in the relationship between factors such as technological stress and the multisensory experience and its impact on attitude towards virtual shopping. The data is analyzed with the structural equations model to achieve this purpose. The database researched is made up of responses from 400 users of virtual content from companies belonging to the fashion sector. Among the main results, it is found that the consumer's conscience and mindfulness directly and positively influence the relationship between technological stress and the attitude towards virtual shopping. At the same time, the case of the consumer's conscience did not show any results.

Keratoconus (KC) affects the corneal structure, with thinning and bulging outward into a conelike shape. Irregular astigmatism and decreased visual acuity appear during puberty and progress into the mid-30s, with unpredictable disease severity. The cause of KC is recognized as multifactorial, but remains poorly understood. Hormone imbalances are a significant modulator of the onset of KC. This study sought to investigate the role of gonadotropins, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) in KC, using a three-dimensional, self-assembled matrix in vitromodel. Healthy corneal fibroblasts and human KC cells in the corneal stroma were isolated, cultured, and stimulated with stable vitamin C to promote extracellular matrix assembly. Cultures were further stimulated with 2.5 or 10 mIU/mL FSH and 5 or 35 mIU/mL LH. Samples were evaluated for cell proliferation and morphology via BrdU assay and imaging; protein expression was assessed via Western blot analysis. Proliferation was significantly greater in human KC cells compared to healthy corneal fibroblasts with LH stimulation, but no changes were found with FSH stimulation. Additionally, in sex hormone receptors, fibrotic markers, proteoglycans, and members of the gonadotropin signaling pathway were significantly changed, largely driven by exogenous LH. The impact of exogenous FSH/LH in the KC stromal microenvironment was demonstrated. These results highlight the need to further examine the role of FSH/LH in KC and in human corneal homeostasis.

This research verifies the moderating effect of informal institutions on the relationship between organisational innovation and organisational learning in the export performance between two countries with diverse cultural characteristics. In the same way, this research attempted to verify whether there is a bidirectional relationship between organisational learning and export performance. To achieve the research purpose, a model of dynamic structural equations is conducted. It is possible to consider that bets on strategies for innovation in the company's products are important, as this allows more efficient access to external markets.

Purpose: A large part of the most recent studies in innovation focuses on the need to investigate the cultural differences between countries. Many of the approaches used focus on Hofstede as the most recognized perspective in international business. The Hofstede perspective requires a deeper analysis of the most profound components in the countries, such as values and beliefs. The purpose of this study is identify the drivers in creating innovation trajectories over time, focusing on different values that influence the innovation processes. These trajectories allow investigating the comparability in the innovation performance of the countries. Design/methodology/approach: Time-series analysis is performed to achieve the research’s goal, considering the innovation inputs and people’s values and influence on innovation output. The Global Innovation Index and the World Value Survey (WVS), which comprise data from countries on different continents, were used in this investigation. The trajectories analysis technique examines differences in innovation trajectory among countries with cultural orientations toward traditional, secular, survival and self-expression values. Findings: In the literature, it can be found that in more socially open societies, the results in innovation are higher than in societies with opposite values, as is the case of traditional vs secular rationale. On the other hand, societies with a tendency toward self-expression will be characterized by a constant search for individual liberties that promote the search for scientific and technological alternatives for problem-solving, contrary to those with survival characteristics. Research limitations/implications: Considering the results obtained in the study about the values and their relationship with innovation at the country level, the main limitation is the WVS information. This limitation is based on the need to complement the information obtained with other sources of information that allow comparisons to be made from the different cultural approaches that exist. Practical implications: The findings allow us to contemplate a more general vision of the cultural factors that affect the social dynamics and, therefore, the industrial and commercial dynamics of a country. The managers can use this type of results in the design of strategies that allow them to contemplate adaptation processes that are more appropriate to the cultural contexts in which they operate are worked on in this research. Social implications: One of the main contributions is related to the possibility of understanding the relationship between the cultural dynamics of a country and the results in innovation, especially in the time. Originality/value: The trajectory analysis, specifically Inglehard’s perspective concerning cultural dimensions and innovation, has not been used in the literature. This type of analysis will make it possible to have studies that allow subsequent comparisons to be made with other perspectives, especially at the country level.

Engagement is relevant to understanding the profitable relationship that exists between customers and organisations in a market. This can be evidenced by studying the credibility of WOM and the credibility of eWOM and their impact on engagement. Currently, there is no evidence from other studies to validate this relationship. This article initially analyses how message quality, integrity, extraversion, and ease of use are antecedents of WOM and eWOM credibility and then analyses how the latter generates engagement. This research studies 645 people who for different reasons made trips to national and/or international destinations, and with this input, a structural equation model is presented using SmartPLS (3.0). As a result, it was found that there is a positive relationship between the credibility of WOM, the credibility of eWOM, and engagement. This research serves as the basis for expanding knowledge and customer management in organisations.
