Introduction Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare genetic disease caused by loss-of-function mutations in the ALPL gene encoding the tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Mild HPP is usually misdiagnosed in adult age. While an elevated serum ALP value draws more attention than a low value, low serum ALP should be better recognised and may lead to HPP detection.Methods Patients were selected from the records of the biochemistry department of six University Hospitals in France. Patients were hospitalised in the departments of rheumatology and internal medicine between 2007 and 2017.Results 56 321 hospitalised patients had at least 2 serum ALP dosages and 664 of these patients had at least 2 low serum ALP≤35 UI/L. Among these 664 patients, 482 (72.6%) had fluctuating low values (mean age 62.9 years; 60% of women) and 182 patients (27.4%) had persistent low values below 35 IU/L (mean age 53.4 years; 67% of women). Among patients with persistent hypophosphatasaemia treated with bisphosphonates, 70.8% never had ALP measurement before treatment and 20.8% were treated despite an abnormal decrease of ALP. Genetic testing was performed in 18 patients and was positive in 11. Genetic diagnosis of HPP was at least 6.0% in persistent hypophosphatasaemia and at least 15.9% in patients with at least three symptoms suggestive of HPP.Conclusion In this 10-year retrospective study, 0.32% of adult patients hospitalised in the rheumatology and internal medicine departments had persistently low serum ALP, and among them, 6% had genetically proven HPP. Reported hypophosphatasaemia represented only 3.6% of hospitalised patients.

Abstract Background In the current context of global warming, thermal manipulation of avian embryos has received increasing attention as a strategy to promote heat tolerance in avian species by simply increasing the egg incubation temperature. However, because of their likely epigenetic origin, thermal manipulation effects may last more than one generation with consequences for the poultry industry. In this work, a multigenerational and transgenerational analysis of thermal manipulation during embryogenesis was performed to uncover the long-term effects of such procedure. Results Thermal manipulation repeated during 4 generations had an effect on hatchability, body weight, and weight of eggs laid in Japanese quails, with some effects increasing in importance over generations. Moreover, the effects on body weight and egg weight could be transmitted transgenerationally, suggesting non-genetic inheritance mechanisms. This hypothesis is reinforced by the observed reversion of the effect on growth after five unexposed generations. Interestingly, a beneficial effect of thermal manipulation on heat tolerance was observed a few days after hatching, but this effect was not transgenerational. Conclusions Our multigenerational study showed that thermal conditioning of quail embryos has a beneficial effect on post-hatch heat tolerance hampered by transgenerational but reversible defects on growth. Assuming that no genetic variability underlies these changes, this study provides the first demonstration of epigenetic inheritance of traits induced by environmental temperature modification associated with long-term impacts in an avian species.

N-terminal ends of polypeptides are critical for the selective co-translational recruitment of N-terminal modification enzymes. However, it is unknown whether specific N-terminal signatures differentially regulate protein fate according to their cellular functions. In this work, we developed an in-silico approach to detect functional preferences in cellular N-terminomes, and identified in S. cerevisiae more than 200 Gene Ontology terms with specific N-terminal signatures. In particular, we discovered that Mitochondrial Targeting Sequences (MTS) show a strong and specific over-representation at position 2 of hydrophobic residues known to define potential substrates of the N-terminal acetyltransferase NatC. We validated mitochondrial precursors as co-translational targets of NatC by selective purification of translating ribosomes, and found that their N-terminal signature is conserved in Saccharomycotina yeasts. Finally, systematic mutagenesis of the position 2 in a prototypal yeast mitochondrial protein confirmed its critical role in mitochondrial protein import. Our work highlights the hydrophobicity of MTS N-terminal residues and their targeting by NatC as important features for the definition of the mitochondrial proteome, providing a molecular explanation for mitochondrial defects observed in yeast or human NatC-depleted cells. Functional mapping of N-terminal residues thus has the potential to support the discovery of novel mechanisms of protein regulation or targeting.

Abstract Understanding of the distribution of chemerin and its receptors, Chemokine-like Receptor 1 (CMKLR1), G Protein-coupled Receptor 1 (GPR1) and Chemokine (C–C motif) receptor-like 2 (CCRL2), in the egg and the embryonic annexes is currently lacking, and their role during embryogenesis remains unknown. By immunoblot using monoclonal anti-chicken antibodies and Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA), we found that chemerin is expressed 10 times higher in albumen eggs than in blood plasma, and it is also abundant in the perivitelline membrane but undetectable in yolk. Chicken chemerin can inhibit bacterial growth. By Reverse Transcription—quantitative Polymerisation Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR), western-blot, and immunofluorescence, we show that chemerin is locally produced by the oviduct magnum that participates in albumen formation. Using cultures of magnum explants, we demonstrate that progesterone (P4) and oestradiol (E2) treatment increases chemerin secretion into cultured media and expression in magnum. Chemerin and its three receptors are present in amniotic and Chorio Allantoic Membranes (CAM). Only CMKLR1 expression decreased from embryonic day (ED) 7 to ED11 and remained low until ED18. Chemerin concentrations strongly increased in amniotic fluid at D14 when egg albumen crossed the amniotic membrane. In ovo injections of neutralising chemerin and CMKLR1 antibodies (0.01, 0.1 and 1 µg) increased embryo mortality, which occurred mainly at ED12-13, in a dose-dependent manner. Chemerin treatment increased primary CAM viability. Finally, chemerin and CMKLR1 inhibition within the CAM led to a decrease in blood vessel development and associated angiogenic gene expression. Our results show an important function of the chemerin system during embryo development in chickens, suggesting the potential use of this adipokine as a predictive marker for egg fertility or hatchability.

Object GRB 221009A is the brightest gamma-ray burst (GRB) detected in more than 50 yr of study. In this paper, we present observations in the X-ray and optical domains obtained by the GRANDMA Collaboration and the Insight Collaboration. We study the optical afterglow with empirical fitting using the GRANDMA+HXMT-LE data sets augmented with data from the literature up to 60 days. We then model numerically using a Bayesian approach, and we find that the GRB afterglow, extinguished by a large dust column, is most likely behind a combination of a large Milky Way dust column and moderate low-metallicity dust in the host galaxy. Using the GRANDMA+HXMT-LE+XRT data set, we find that the simplest model, where the observed afterglow is produced by synchrotron radiation at the forward external shock during the deceleration of a top-hat relativistic jet by a uniform medium, fits the multiwavelength observations only moderately well, with a tension between the observed temporal and spectral evolution. This tension is confirmed when using the augmented data set. We find that the consideration of a jet structure (Gaussian or power law), the inclusion of synchrotron self-Compton emission, or the presence of an underlying supernova do not improve the predictions. Placed in the global context of GRB optical afterglows, we find that the afterglow of GRB 221009A is luminous but not extraordinarily so, highlighting that some aspects of this GRB do not deviate from the global known sample despite its extreme energetics and the peculiar afterglow evolution.

Glyphosate (Gly) is the active molecule of non-selective herbicides used in conventional agriculture. Some evidence shows that exposure to Glyphosate-Based Herbicides (GBH) can affect both male and female fertility in animal models. However, few data exist on birds that can be easily exposed through their cereal-based diet. To our knowledge, there are no current studies on the effects of chronic dietary exposure to GBH and the potential reversibility on the fertility and embryo development in chickens. In our protocol, hens (32 weeks-old) were exposed to GBH (47 mg kg-1/day-1 glyphosate equivalent corresponding to half of the No-Observed-Adverse-Effect-Level (NOAEL) as defined by European Food Safety Authority in birds, GBH group (GBH), n = 75) or not (Control group (CT), n = 75) for 6 weeks. Then, both CT and GBH groups were fed for 5 more weeks without GBH exposure. During these two periods, we investigated the consequences on the egg performance and quality, fertilization rate, embryo development, and viability of offspring. Despite the accumulation of Gly and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in the hen blood plasma, the body weight and laying rate were similar in GBH and CT animals. We observed from the 4th day of exposure an accumulation of Gly (but not AMPA) only in the yolk of the eggs produced by the exposed hens. After artificial insemination of the hens followed by eggs incubation, we showed a strong significant early embryonic mortality level in GBH compared to CT animals (78 ± 2 % vs 2.5 ± 0.3 %, p

The CCAAT-binding complex (CBC) is a conserved heterotrimeric transcription factor which, in fungi, requires additional regulatory subunits to act on transcription. In the pathogenic yeast Candida glabrata, CBC has a dual role. Together with the Hap4 regulatory subunit, it activates the expression of genes involved in respiration upon growth with non-fermentable carbon sources, while its association with the Yap5 regulatory subunit is required for the activation of iron tolerance genes in response to iron excess. In the present work, we investigated further the interplay between CBC, Hap4 and Yap5. We showed that Yap5 regulation requires a specific Yap Response Element in the promoter of its target gene GRX4 and that the presence of Yap5 considerably strengthens the binding of CBC to the promoters of iron tolerance genes. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and transcriptome experiments showed that Hap4 can also bind these promoters but has no impact on the expression of those genes when Yap5 is present. In the absence of Yap5 however, GRX4 is constitutively regulated by Hap4, similarly to the genes involved in respiration. Our results suggest that the distinction between the two types of CBC targets in C. glabrata is mainly due to the dependency of Yap5 for very specific DNA sequences and to the competition between Hap4 and Yap5 at the promoter of the iron tolerance genes.

Previous experiments revealed that DHH1, a RNA helicase involved in the regulation of mRNA stability and translation, complemented the phenotype of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant affected in the expression of genes coding for monocarboxylic-acids transporters, JEN1 and ADY2 (Paiva S, Althoff S, Casal M, Leao C. FEMS Microbiol Lett, 1999, 170:301-306). In wild type cells, JEN1 expression had been shown to be undetectable in the presence of glucose or formic acid, and induced in the presence of lactate. In this work, we show that JEN1 mRNA accumulates in a dhh1 mutant, when formic acid was used as sole carbon source. Dhh1 interacts with the decapping activator Dcp1 and with the deadenylase complex. This led to the hypothesis that JEN1 expression is post-transcriptionally regulated by Dhh1 in formic acid. Analyses of JEN1 mRNAs decay in wild-type and dhh1 mutant strains confirmed this hypothesis. In these conditions, the stabilized JEN1 mRNA was associated to polysomes but no Jen1 protein could be detected, either by measurable lactate carrier activity, Jen1-GFP fluorescence detection or western blots. These results revealed the complexity of the expression regulation of JEN1 in S. cerevisiae and evidenced the importance of DHH1 in this process. Additionally, microarray analyses of dhh1 mutant indicated that Dhh1 plays a large role in metabolic adaptation, suggesting that carbon source changes triggers a complex interplay between transcriptional and post-transcriptional effects.

In chickens, a divergent selection on the Pectoralis major pHu allowed the creation of the pHu+ and pHu− lines, which represent a unique model for studying the biological control of carbohydrate storage in muscle. The present study aimed to describe the early mechanisms involved in the establishment of pHu+ and pHu− phenotypes. At hatching, pHu+ chicks were slightly heavier but exhibited lower plasma glucose and triglyceride and higher uric acid. After 5 days, pHu+ chicks exhibited higher breast meat yield compared to pHu− while their body weight was no different. At both ages, in vivo muscle glycogen content was lower in pHu+ than in pHu− muscles. The lower ability of pHu+ chicks to store carbohydrate in their muscle was associated with the increased expression of SLC2A1 and SLC2A3 genes coding glucose transporters 1 and 3, and of CS and LDHα coding key enzymes of oxidative and glycolytic pathways, respectively. Reduced muscle glycogen content at hatching of the pHu+ was concomitant with higher activation by phosphorylation of S6 kinase 1/ribosomal protein S6 pathway, known to activate protein synthesis in chicken muscle. In conclusion, differences observed in muscle at slaughter age in the pHu+ and pHu− lines are already present at hatching. They are associated with several changes related to both carbohydrate and protein metabolism, which are likely to affect their ability to use eggs or exogenous nutrients for muscle growth or energy storage.

Abstract The CCAAT-binding complex (CBC) is a heterotrimeric transcription factor which is widely conserved in eukaryotes. In the model yeast S. cerevisiae, CBC positively controls the expression of respiratory pathway genes. This role involves interactions with the regulatory subunit Hap4. In many pathogenic fungi, CBC interacts with the HapX regulatory subunit to control iron homeostasis. HapX is a bZIP protein which only shares with Hap4 the Hap4Like domain (Hap4L) required for its interaction with CBC. Here, we show that CBC has a dual role in the pathogenic yeast C. glabrata. It is required, along with Hap4, for the constitutive expression of respiratory genes and it is also essential for the iron stress response, which is mediated by the Yap5 bZIP transcription factor. Interestingly, Yap5 contains a vestigial Hap4L domain. The mutagenesis of this domain severely reduced Yap5 binding to its targets and compromised its interaction with Hap5. Hence, Yap5, like HapX in other species, acts as a CBC regulatory subunit in the regulation of iron stress response. This work reveals new aspects of iron homeostasis in C. glabrata and of the evolution of the role of CBC and Hap4L-bZIP proteins in this process.

In this work, we used comparative transcriptomics to identify regulatory outliers (ROs) in the human pathogen Candida glabrata. ROs are genes that have very different expression patterns compared to their orthologs in other species. From comparative transcriptome analyses of the response of eight yeast species to toxic doses of selenite, a pleiotropic stress inducer, we identified 38 ROs in C. glabrata. Using transcriptome analyses of C. glabrata response to five different stresses, we pointed out five ROs which were more particularly responsive to iron starvation, a process which is very important for C. glabrata virulence. Global chromatin Immunoprecipitation and gene profiling analyses showed that four of these genes are actually new targets of the iron starvation responsive Aft2 transcription factor in C. glabrata. Two of them (HBS1 and DOM34b) are required for C. glabrata optimal growth in iron limited conditions. In S. cerevisiae, the orthologs of these two genes are involved in ribosome rescue by the NO GO decay (NGD) pathway. Hence, our results suggest a specific contribution of NGD co-factors to the C. glabrata adaptation to iron starvation.

Emotions unfold over time with episodes differing in explosiveness (i.e., profiles having a steep vs. a gentle start) and accumulation (i.e., profiles increasing over time vs. going back to baseline). In the present fMRI study, we wanted to replicate and extend previous findings on the psychological and neural mechanisms underlying emotion explosiveness and accumulation. Specifically, we aimed to: (a) replicate the finding that different neural mechanisms are associated with emotion explosiveness and accumulation, (b) replicate the finding that adopting a self-distanced (vs. self-immersed) perspective decreases emotion explosiveness and accumulation at the level of self-report, and (c) examine whether adopting a self-distanced (vs. self-immersed) perspective similarly modulates activity in the brain regions associated with emotion explosiveness and accumulation. Participants in an fMRI scanner were asked to adopt a self-immersed or self-distanced perspective while reading and thinking about negative social feedback, and to report on felt changes in negative affect during that period using an emotion intensity profile tracking approach. We replicated previous findings showing that emotion explosiveness and accumulation were related to activity in regions involved in self-referential processing (such as the medial prefrontal cortex) and sustained visceral arousal (such as the posterior insula), respectively. The finding that adopting a self-distanced (vs. self-immersed) perspective lowers emotion explosiveness and accumulation was also replicated at a self-report level. However, perspective taking did not impact activity in the neural correlates of emotion explosiveness and accumulation.

The in vitro germination of seeds of Vestiafoetida (Ruiz et Pav.) Hoffmanns. and their multiplication was performed. A 20% in vitro germination was obtained. The best proliferation medium was MS supplemented with BAP (1.0 mg L-1) plus AIB (0.01 mg L-1), with an average of 1.7 new axillary buds per microshoot after two subcultures.

Nothofagus glauca posee una situación privilegiada en asociaciones con especies problemáticas como Nothofagus alessandrii, Beilschmiedia berteroana y Nothofagus leonii, esto multiplica su valor ecológico y paisajístico, por las relaciones en su hábitat nativo. N. glauca se considera clave en determinados hábitats y su pérdida o continua disminución puede afectar directamente a otras especies. La conservación ex situ es una prioridad para el rescate de la especie, por tanto el cultivo de tejidos es, entre otros, uno de los mecanismos alternativos de propagación y conservación de las especies. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el efecto independiente de dos auxinas, ácido naftalenacético (ANA) y ácido 3-indolbutírico (AIB), en el enraizamiento in vitro de microtallos de N. glauca provenientes de subcultivos sucesivos en medio MS como sustrato. Se establecieron seis tratamientos con: 1 mgl-1, 3 mgl-1 y 5 mgl-1 de ANA y AIB, un control libre de hormonas y cuatro réplicas de cada uno. Se evaluó la supervivencia y enraizamiento de los microtallos, longitud de raíz (mm) y número de raíces por explanto. Se obtuvo supervivencia de hasta 100% con la adición de 3 mgl-1 de AIB al medio de cultivo. Se presentaron diferencias significativas entre el tratamiento control y microtallos sometidos a inmersión en hormonas. Se obtuvo 87,5% de enraizamiento adventicio con 1 mgl-1 de AIB y un 75,0% con 3 mgl-1 de ANA. Se concluye que la presencia de auxinas en el medio de cultivo es indispensable para la formación de raíces in vitro y establece la posibilidad de mantener el potencial rizogénico de la especie en condiciones ex vitro.Nothofagus glauca forms essential associations with problematic species such as Nothofagus alessandrii, Beilschmiedia berteroana and Nothofagus leonii. By enhancing its native environment, N. glauca increases its ecological and scenic value. It is considered a keystone species in certain habitats, and its continued decline or loss may directly affect other species. Ex situ conservation is a priority for the recovery of the species; therefore, tissue culture is, among others, one of the alternative mechanisms for effective propagation and conservation of N. glauca. The aim of this study was to evaluate the independent effect of two auxins, 1-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) in vitro rooting of microshoots of N. glauca from successive subcultures on MS medium. Six treatments were established containing 1 mgl-1, 3 mgl-1, and 5 mgl-1 of NAA and IBA. Experimental design included a hormone-free control and four replicates of each treatment. We evaluated the survival and rooting of the microshoots, the root length (mm), and the number of roots formed per explant. Survival of microshoots was recorded at 100% when 3 mgl-1 IBA was added to the culture medium. Furthermore, significant differences existed between the control treatment and the microshoots subjected to hormone immersion. 87.5% adventitious root formation was observed with 1 mgl-1 IBA, and 75.0% was observed with 3 mgl-1 of NAA. The results indicate that the presence of auxin in the culture medium is essential for in vitro root formation and provides the ability to maintain the rhizogenic potential of the species in ex vitro conditions.

Berberidopsis corallina es una planta trepadora endémica de Chile catalogada "en peligro de extinción" y que hoy se encuentra en problemas de conservación, debido al escaso número de poblaciones y a su difícil reproducción por semillas. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue evaluar su capacidad de enraizamiento de estacas recolectadas en distintas épocas del año y utilizando diferentes concentraciones de la auxina ácido 3-indolbutírico. Las muestras se obtuvieron de plantas madres que crecen en Trongol Bajo (Curanilahue 37°28' S; 73°20' O, provincia de Arauco) en época de verano, otoño e invierno de 2006. Estacas de 8-10 cm de longitud fueron tratadas bajo inmersión rápida a diferentes concentraciones de ácido 3-indolbutírico (0, 500, 1.500, 3.000, 5.000 ppm). Después de cinco meses de realizado el ensayo se evaluó el efecto del ácido 3-indolbutírico (AIB) y época de muestreo sobre el potencial de enraizamiento adventicio en las estacas. El estudio reveló que existen diferencias significativas en cuanto a la época de recolecta, alcanzándose un mayor porcentaje de enraizamiento en estacas recolectadas en invierno (93%); sin embargo, entre los tratamientos no existen diferencias significativas. El mayor número de raíces se obtuvo en el tratamiento 500 ppm con un valor promedio de 8,1 raíces por estaca en época de otoño. Se concluye que B. corallina puede ser reproducido vegetativamente sin la necesidad de aplicar auxina a la estaca en época de invierno y otoño, en plantas procedentes de Trongol Bajo, permitiendo propagar la especie con la mínima intervención.Berberidopsis corallina is an endangered vine endemic to Chile, which is difficult to conserve due to its small number of remaining populations and its recalcitrance to reproduce by seeds. The objective of this study was to evaluate the rooting ability of cuttings collected at different times and treated with varying concentrations of the auxin indole-3-butyric acid. Semi-ligneous cuttings were collected from plant material found in Trongol Low (Curanilahue 37° 28'S, 73° 20'W, Arauco province) during the summer, autumn and winter of 2006. Cuttings of 8-10 cm in length were rapidly immersed in solutions with different concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid (0, 500, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000 ppm). The effect of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and collection time of the cuttings on their adventitious rooting potential were evaluated five months after rapid immersion. Significant differences existed with regard to the time of collection, with a higher percentage of rooting observed in cuttings collected in winter (93%); however, between the treatments there were no significant differences. The highest number of roots was obtained when autumn cuttings were treated with 500 ppm IBA, yielding an average of 8.1 roots per cutting. The authors conclude that B. corallina can be vegetatively reproduced via cuttings without exogenous hormone addition if the cuttings are selected during winter and autumn from plants in Trongol Low, which allows for the efficient propagation of this endangered species.

BACKGROUND: Environmental challenges might affect the maternal organism and indirectly affect the later ontogeny of the progeny. We investigated the cross-generation impact of a moderate heat challenge in chickens. We hypothesized that a warm temperature--within the thermotolerance range--would affect the hormonal environment provided to embryos by mothers, and in turn, affect the morphology and behavioral phenotype of offspring. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Laying hens were raised under a standard thermal condition at 21°C (controls) or 30°C (experimental) for 5 consecutive weeks. A significant increase was observed in the internal temperature of hens exposed to the warm treatment; however plasma corticosterone levels remained unaffected. The laying rate was not affected, but experimental hens laid lighter eggs than the controls during the treatment. As expected, the maternal thermal environment affected yolk hormone contents. Eggs laid by the experimental hens showed significantly higher concentrations of yolk progesterone, testosterone, and estradiol. All chicks were raised under standard thermal conditions. The quality of hatchlings, growth, feeding behavior and emotional reactivity of chicks were analyzed. Offspring of experimental hens (C30 chicks) were lighter but obtained better morphological quality scores at hatching than the controls (C21 chicks). C30 chicks expressed lesser distress calls when exposed to a novel food. Unlike C21 chicks, C30 chicks expressed no preference for energetic food. CONCLUSION/SIGNIFICANCE: Our findings suggest that moderate heat challenge triggers maternal effects and modulate the developmental trajectory of offspring in a way that may be adaptive. This suggests that the impact of heat challenges on captive or wild populations might have a cross-generation effect.

The asymmetric localization of mRNA plays an important role in coordinating posttranscriptional events in eukaryotic cells. We investigated the peripheral mitochondrial localization of nuclear-encoded mRNAs (MLR) in various conditions in which the mRNA binding protein context and the translation efficiency were altered. We identified Puf3p, a Pumilio family RNA-binding protein, as the first trans-acting factor controlling the MLR phenomenon. This allowed the characterization of two classes of genes whose mRNAs are translated to the vicinity of mitochondria. Class I mRNAs (256 genes) have a Puf3p binding motif in their 3'UTR region and many of them have their MLR properties deeply affected by PUF3 deletion. Conversely, mutations in the Puf3p binding motif alter the mitochondrial localization of BCS1 mRNA. Class II mRNAs (224 genes) have no Puf3p binding site and their asymmetric localization is not affected by the absence of PUF3. In agreement with a co-translational import process, we observed that the presence of puromycin loosens the interactions between most of the MLR-mRNAs and mitochondria. Unexpectedly, cycloheximide, supposed to solidify translational complexes, turned out to destabilize a class of mRNA-mitochondria interactions. Classes I and II mRNAs, which are therefore transported to the mitochondria through different pathways, correlated with different functional modules. Indeed, Class I genes code principally for the assembly factors of respiratory chain complexes and the mitochondrial translation machinery (ribosomes and translation regulators). Class II genes encode proteins of the respiratory chain or proteins involved in metabolic pathways. Thus, MLR, which is intimately linked to translation control, and the activity of mRNA-binding proteins like Puf3p, may provide the conditions for a fine spatiotemporal control of mitochondrial protein import and mitochondrial protein complex assembly. This work therefore provides new openings for the global study of mitochondria biogenesis.

The synchronization and/or time acquisition problem in the presence of interferences has been strongly studied these last two decades, mainly to mitigate the multiple access interferences from other users in DS/CDMA systems. Among the available receivers, only some scarce receivers may also be used in other contexts such as F/TDMA systems. However, these receivers assume implicitly or explicitly circular (or proper) interferences and become suboptimal for noncircular (or improper) interferences. Such interferences are characteristic in particular of radio communication networks using either rectilinear (or monodimensional) modulations such as BPSK modulation or modulation becoming quasirectilinear after a preprocessing such as MSK, GMSK, or OQAM modulations. For this reason, the purpose of this paper is to introduce and to analyze the performance of second-optimal array receivers for synchronization and/or time acquisition of BPSK, MSK, and GMSK signals corrupted by noncircular interferences. For given performances and in the presence of rectilinear signal and interferences, the proposed receiver allows a reduction of the number of sensors by a factor at least equal to two.

Différents points d’impact des mesures de suspension des farines et graisses animales ont été identifiés. En matière de technologie des aliments, les répercussions prévisibles sont liées au retrait des graisses animales avec un risque de plus grande friabilité des granulés et des difficultés d’incorporation de quantités importantes de graisses. Au plan nutritionnel, s’il existe des solutions techniques pour remplacer les farines et les graisses animales, on peut cependant prévoir des difficultés d’utilisation de certaines matières premières (tourteau de soja à taux plus élevés, huile de palme, huiles de récupération…), des perturbations de la consommation d’aliments, voire des baisses de performances (volailles surtout) et une surexcrétion d’eau (dinde, poule pondeuse) avec ses conséquences sanitaires. L’impact sur la qualité des produits animaux provient essentiellement du remplacement des graisses animales par des matières grasses d’origine végétale le plus souvent insaturées qui peut se traduire par des défauts de présentation des carcasses et une moins bonne conservation des produits animaux plus sensibles à l’oxydation. Concernant la sécurité alimentaire pour le consommateur, on peut s’attendre à un accroissement des risques potentiels d’ordre chimique (contaminants, mycotoxines et autres substances toxiques produites par les plantes) et biologique (bactéries pathogènes) associés à l’importation de matières premières de provenances multiples, souvent mal contrôlées et dépourvues de traçabilité. Certains de ces risques sont cependant encadrés par des réglementations spécifiques de l’Union Européenne. On peut s’attendre également à des difficultés de traçabilité pour les filières fonctionnant avec des signes officiels de qualité ou des certifications, en regard de l’importation de matières premières standard et OGM non différenciées. En revanche, il n’y a pas de risques identifiés associés aux plantes OGM ayant à ce jour reçu une autorisation de commercialisation. Enfin en matière d’environnement, il faut prévoir un arrêt du recyclage (phosphates " cachés " des farines de viande et d’os) et des prélèvements accrus sur des ressources non renouvelables (phosphates minéraux), ainsi que des risques de rejets plus importants de phosphore (biodisponibilité plus faible du phosphore végétal) et d’éléments traces métalliques (absents des farines animales) provenant des phosphates minéraux.
