Abstract

Abstract The analysis of stability in functional equations (FEs) within neutrosophic normed spaces is a significant challenge due to the inherent uncertainties and complexities involved. This paper proposes a novel approach to address this challenge, offering a comprehensive framework for investigating stability properties in such contexts. Neutrosophic normed spaces are a generalization of traditional normed spaces that incorporate neutrosophic logic. By providing a systematic methodology for addressing stability concerns in neutrosophic normed spaces, our approach facilitates enhanced understanding and control of complex systems characterized by indeterminacy and uncertainty. The primary focus of this research is to propose a novel class of Euler-Lagrange additive FE and investigate its Ulam-Hyers stability in neutrosophic normed spaces. Direct and fixed point techniques are utilized to achieve the required results.

Abstract

In this paper, the authors introduce two new classes of series type additive functional Equations (FEs). The first class of equations is derived from the sum of the squares of the alternative series and the second one is obtained from the sum of the cubes of the series. The solution of the FE is investigated using the principle of mathematical induction. The beauty of this method lies in the fact that it satisfies the property of the additive FE as well as the series. Banach spaces are one of the widely-used spaces that are very helpful to analyse the stability results of various FEs. The Banach space conditions have been applied and the stability results are established for both of the equations. Furthermore, the Banach Contraction principle and alternative of fixed point theorem are used to derive the stability results in a fixed point technique (FPT). The relationship between the FEs and both the series is established through the principle of mathematical induction in the Application section, which adds novelty to the derived results.

Abstract

In this article, a new kind of bilateral symmetric additive type functional equation is introduced. One of the interesting characteristics of the equation is the fact that it is ideal for investigating the Ulam–Hyers stabilities in two prominent normed spaces, namely fuzzy and random normed spaces simultaneously. This article analyzes the proposed equation in both spaces. The solution of this equation exhibits the property of symmetry, that is, the left of the object becomes the right of the image, and vice versa. Additionally, the stability results of this functional equation are determined in fuzzy and random normed spaces using direct and fixed point methods.

Abstract

In this article, a new class of real-valued Euler–Lagrange symmetry additive functional equations is introduced. The solution of the equation is provided, assuming the unknown function to be continuous and without any regularity conditions. The objective of this research is to derive the Hyers–Ulam–Rassias stability (HURS) in intuitionistic fuzzy normed spaces (IFNS) by applying the classical direct method and fixed point techniques (FPT). Furthermore, it is proven that the Euler–Lagrange symmetry additive functional equation and the control function, which is the IFNS of the sums and products of powers of norms, is stable. In addition, a few examples where the solution of this equation can be applied in Fourier series and Fourier transforms are demonstrated.

13. Scheduling and Checkpointing optimization algorithm for Byzantine fault tolerance in Cloud Clusters

Abstract

Among those faults Byzantine faults offers serious challenge to fault tolerance mechanism, because it often go undetected at the initial stage and it can easily propagate to other VMs before a detection is made. Consequently some of the mission critical application such as air traffic control, online baking etc still staying away from the cloud for such reasons. However if a Byzantine faults is not detected and tolerated at initial stage then applications such as big data analytics can go completely wrong in spite of hours of computations performed by the entire cloud. Therefore in the previous work a fool-proof Byzantine fault detection has been proposed, as a continuation this work designs a scheduling algorithm (WSSS) and checkpoint optimization algorithm (TCC) to tolerate and eliminate the Byzantine faults before it makes any impact. The WSSS algorithm keeps track of server performance which is part of Virtual Clusters to help allocate best performing server to mission critical application. WSSS therefore ranks the servers based on a counter which monitors every Virtual Nodes (VN) for time and performance failures. The TCC algorithm works to generalize the possible Byzantine error prone region through monitoring delay variation to start new VNs with previous checkpointing. Moreover it can stretch the state interval for performing and error free VNs in an effect to minimize the space, time and cost overheads caused by checkpointing. The analysis is performed with plotting state transition and CloudSim based simulation. Abstract

Cloud computing management are beyond typical human narratives. However if a virtual system is not effectively designed to tolerate Byzantine faults, it could lead to a faultily executed mission rather than a cloud crash. The cloud could recover from the crash but it could not recover from the loss of credibility. Moreover no amount of replication or fault handling measures can be helpful in facing a Byzantine fault unless the virtual system is designed to detect, tolerate and eliminate such faults. However research efforts that are made to address Byzantine faults have not provided convincing solutions vastly due to their limited capabilities in detecting the Byzantine faults. As a result, in this paper the Cloud system is modeled as a discrete system to determine the virtual system behavior at varying time intervals. A delay variation variable as a measure of deviation for the expected processing delay associated with the virtual nodes takes values from the set of P {low, normal, high, extreme}. Similarly, a check sum error variable which is even computed for intra nodes that have no attachment to TCP/IP stack takes values from the set of P {no error, error}. Abstract

Summary: Background: Dexamethasone was the first intervention proven to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 being treated in hospital. We aimed to evaluate the adoption of corticosteroids in the treatment of COVID-19 in the UK after the RECOVERY trial publication on June 16, 2020, and to identify discrepancies in care. Methods: We did an audit of clinical implementation of corticosteroids in a prospective, observational, cohort study in 237 UK acute care hospitals between March 16, 2020, and April 14, 2021, restricted to patients aged 18 years or older with proven or high likelihood of COVID-19, who received supplementary oxygen. The primary outcome was administration of dexamethasone, prednisolone, hydrocortisone, or methylprednisolone. This study is registered with ISRCTN, ISRCTN66726260. Findings: Between June 17, 2020, and April 14, 2021, 47 795 (75·2%) of 63 525 of patients on supplementary oxygen received corticosteroids, higher among patients requiring critical care than in those who received ward care (11 185 [86·6%] of 12 909 vs 36 415 [72·4%] of 50 278). Patients 50 years or older were significantly less likely to receive corticosteroids than those younger than 50 years (adjusted odds ratio 0·79 [95% CI 0·70–0·89], p=0·0001, for 70–79 years; 0·52 [0·46–0·58], p80 years), independent of patient demographics and illness severity. 84 (54·2%) of 155 pregnant women received corticosteroids. Rates of corticosteroid administration increased from 27·5% in the week before June 16, 2020, to 75–80% in January, 2021. Interpretation: Implementation of corticosteroids into clinical practice in the UK for patients with COVID-19 has been successful, but not universal. Patients older than 70 years, independent of illness severity, chronic neurological disease, and dementia, were less likely to receive corticosteroids than those who were younger, as were pregnant women. This could reflect appropriate clinical decision making, but the possibility of inequitable access to life-saving care should be considered. Abstract

The rapid increase in the efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in last few decades have made them very attractive to the photovoltaic (PV) community. However, the serious challenge is related to the stability under various conditions and toxicity issues. A huge number of articles have been published in PSCs in the recent years focusing these issues by employing different strategies in the synthesis of electron transport layer (ETL), active perovskite layer, hole transport layer (HTL) and back contact counter electrodes. This article tends to focus on the role and classification of different materials used as HTL in influencing long-term stability, in improving the photovoltaic parameters and thereby enhancing the device efficiency. Hole Transport Materials (HTMs) are categorized by dividing into three primary types, namely; organic, inorganic and carbonaceous HTMs. To analyze the role of HTM in detail, we further divide these primary type of HTMs into different subgroups. The organic-based HTMs are subdivided into three categories, namely; long polymer HTMs, small molecule HTMs and cross-linked polymers and the inorganic HTMs have been classified into nickel (Ni) derivatives and copper (Cu) derivatives based HTMs, p-type semiconductor based HTMs and transition metal based HTMs. We further analyze the dual role of carbonaceous materials as HTM and counter electrode in the perovskite devices. In addition, in this review, an overview of the preparation methods, and the influence of the thickness of the HTM layers on the performance and stability of the perovskite devices are also provided. We have carried out a detailed comparison about the various classification of HTMs based on their cost-effectiveness and considering their role on effective device performance. This review further discusses the critical challenges involved in the synthesis and device engineering of HTMs. This will provide the reader a better insight into the state of the art of perovskite solar devices. Abstract

Summary: We identify amino acid variants within dominant SARS-CoV-2 T cell epitopes by interrogating global sequence data. Several variants within nucleocapsid and ORF3a epitopes have arisen independently in multiple lineages and result in loss of recognition by epitope-specific T cells assessed by IFN-γ and cytotoxic killing assays. Complete loss of T cell responsiveness was seen due to Q213K in the A∗01:01-restricted CD8+ ORF3a epitope FTSDYYQLY207-215; due to P13L, P13S, and P13T in the B∗27:05-restricted CD8+ nucleocapsid epitope QRNAPRITF9-17; and due to T362I and P365S in the A∗03:01/A∗11:01-restricted CD8+ nucleocapsid epitope KTFPPTEPK361-369. CD8+ T cell lines unable to recognize variant epitopes have diverse T cell receptor repertoires. These data demonstrate the potential for T cell evasion and highlight the need for ongoing surveillance for variants capable of escaping T cell as well as humoral immunity.

Abstract

Objective: To examine the effects of p-coumaric acid on ethanol-induced kidney injury in Swiss Wistar rats. Methods: Ethanol (25% v/v) was used to induce nephrotoxicity in rats. p-Coumaric acid was orally administered at 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg body weight. The levels of oxidative parameters were determined; pro-inflammatory biomarkers were analyzed by Western blotting and apoptotic protein was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Results: Ethanol treated rats showed decreased levels of antioxidants and aberrant production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL1P, TNF-α), NF-κB activation and imbalance of pro- and anti-apoptotic proteins (Bcl-2, Bax, caspase 3). Meanwhile, jp-coumaric acid restored antioxidant levels and decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines, NF-κB, and pro- apoptotic proteins and increased Bcl-2 expression. Conclusions: jp-Coumaric acid ameliorates ethanol-induced kidney injury by restoring antioxidant production and suppressing cellular apoptosis and inhibiting NF-κB expression. jp-Coumaric acid should be further investigated as a promising candidate for ethanol-induced kidney toxicity.

Abstract

Over the last few decades, a certain interesting class of functional equations were developed while obtaining the generating functions of many system distributions. This class of equations has numerous applications in many modern disciplines such as wireless networks and communications. The Ulam stability theorem can be applied to numerous functional equations in investigating the stability when approximated in Banach spaces, Banach algebra, and so on. The main focus of this study is to analyse the relationship between functional equations, Hyers–Ulam–Rassias stability, Banach space, quasi-beta normed spaces, and fixed-point theory in depth. The significance of this work is the incorporation of the stability of the generalised additive functional equation in Banach space and quasi-beta normed spaces by employing concrete techniques like direct and fixed-point theory methods. They are powerful tools for narrowing down the mathematical models that describe a wide range of events. Some classes of functional equations, in particular, have lately emerged from a variety of applications, such as Fourier transforms and the Laplace transforms. This study uses linear transformation to explain our functional equations while providing suitable examples.

Abstract

Co-Ni-Al alloy samples were prepared by compacting the powdered alloy at various pressures in proper stoichiometric ratio and the high density compacted alloy was sintered at 673 K. The magnetic, mechanical properties, microstructure and phase analysis were studied and compared with that of spark plasma sintered (SPS) alloy. The sintered alloy exhibit martensitic twin variants with β phase structure. Along with the diffused particle, few agglomerated clusters were observed on the topographic images. The magnetic and the mechanical studies of the test specimens were investigated using the vibrating sample magnetometer, pin on disk tribometer and universal testing machine respectively. The coercivity value and the ductility of the SPS alloy are higher than the same of the as-sintered alloy.

The comet assay (also known as single-cell gel electrophoresis) is a technique for the detection of DNA damage at the level of the individual cell. It is a versatile, relatively simple to perform and sensitive method. Although most investigations make use of its ability to measure DNA single-strand breaks, modifications to the method allow detection of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs), crosslinks, base damage, and apoptotic nuclei. Many investigators also interested in examining the DNA damage as a function of time after exposure to a known genotoxic agent. Here, we present a procedure of comet assay for the detection of DNA strand breaks, base damages, and CPDs that can be used to measure DNA damage during toxicity, oxidative stress, and ultraviolet radiation exposure and it can be applied in human toxicological biomonitoring scenarios.

Abstract

Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a very prominent environmental toxic agent. UVR has been implicated in the initiation and progression of photocarcinogenesis. UVR exposure elicits numerous cellular and molecular events which include the generation of inflammatory mediators, DNA damage, epigenetic modifications, and oxidative damages mediated activation of signaling pathways. UVR-initiated signal transduction pathways are believed to be responsible for tumor promotion effects. UVR-induced carcinogenic mechanism has been well studied using various animal and cellular models. Human skin-derived dermal fibroblasts, epidermal keratinocytes, and melanocytes served as excellent cellular model systems for the understanding of UVR-mediated carcinogenic events. Apart from this, scientists developed reconstituted three-dimensional normal human skin equivalent models for the study of UVR signaling pathways. Moreover, hairless mice such as SKH-1, devoid of Hr gene, served as a valuable model for experimental carcinogenesis. Scientists have also used transgenic mice and dorsal portion shaved Swiss albino mice for UVR carcinogenesis studies. In this review, we have discussed the current progress in the study on ultraviolet B (UVB)-mediated carcinogenesis and outlined appropriate experimental models for both ultraviolet A- and UVB-mediated carcinogenesis.

39. Analysing Long-Term Trends in Monthly PM2.5Concentrations Over India Using a Satellite-Derived Dataset

Abstract

Particulate matter with a size of 2.5 µm or smaller (PM2.5) has been a threat to human health and the environment worldwide. Over the years, the pollution patterns in India have changed significantly. However, there are not enough data available to properly assess the temporal variations in PM2.5concentrations over India. This study aims to quantify the extent of PM2.5variation across India from 1998 to 2021 using Atmospheric Composition Analysis Group (ACAG) satellite-derived gridded PM2.5data. For this purpose, the ACAG gridded PM2.5dataset is validated over India using ground-observed PM2.5concentrations. Specifically, daily PM2.5observations from 121 Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) stations spanning over India are used to validate the ACAG gridded dataset. Four evaluation parameters, namely, the coefficient of determination (R2), Nash–Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient (NSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and percentage difference in the peak value (PD), are used. From the results, an acceptable degree of agreement is observed between the ACAG gridded dataset and the CPCB ground observations. Therefore, the ACAG gridded dataset is further used to analyse the long-term trend in the monthly PM2.5concentrations across India. To examine the long-term trend in the PM2.5concentration, the Mann‒Kendall (MK) trend analysis is conducted on the gridded data at both annual and monthly scales. The results indicate a steady increasing trend in the PM2.5concentration in both the annual and monthly PM2.5concentrations. A steep increasing trend in the PM2.5concentration is observed in the Central and North Indian regions. Major portions of Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Bihar, and Sikkim exhibited a percentage change of more than 80% in the PM2.5concentrations during December, January, and February. The results of the trend analysis revealed that a significant percentage of grids over India has a very steep increasing trend (MK tau value ≥ 0.7) in PM2.5concentrations during January (20.32%), February (20.22%), and December (20.19%).

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a very prominent environmental toxic agent. Particularly, UVB (280–320 nm – short wave) wavelength penetrates the epidermis and is completely absorbed in the upper dermis, whereas UVA (320–400 nm - long wave) penetrates to the deeper dermis. UVA is a relatively weak carcinogen than UVB because of its weak strength as a tumor initiating agent. UVB exposure elicits adverse effect which includes sunburn, basal and squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, cataracts, photoaging of the skin and immunosuppression. Increased ozone depletion and modern lifestyle has increased the amount of UV exposure, and this consequently led to a surge in the incidence of skin cancer. UVB-irradiation acts as both tumor initiator and tumor promoter in animal models. UVB-initiated signal transduction pathways are believed to be responsible for tumor promotion effects. Variety of cellular changes, which includes activation of transcription factors and protein kinases were altered during acute and chronic UVB-exposure. All these events leads to skin cancer development involving DNA damage, inflammation, immunosuppression, epidermal hyperplasia, cell cycle dysregulation, depletion of antioxidant–defenses, and reactive oxygen species generation. An epidemiological study shows that human beings consuming varieties of vegetables and fruits are protected from UVB induced carcinogenesis. In the recent years, number of experimental evidences showed that natural nutraceuticals and phytoceuticals are vital targets for UVB-mediated cellular and molecular events and prevents cellular milieu from UVB mediated health effects. In this review, we have discussed the current progress in the study on UVB-mediated signaling that can be exploited as targets for phytochemicals.

Abstract

Ultraviolet-B radiation (285-320 nm) elicits a number of cellular signaling elements. We investigated the preventive effect of linalool, a natural monoterpene, against UVB-induced oxidative imbalance, activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling in HDFa cells. We observed that linalool treatment (30 μM) prevented acute UVB-irradiation (20 mJ/cm2) mediated loss of activities of antioxidant enzymes in HDFa cells. The comet assay results illustrate that linalool significantly prevents UVB-mediated 8-deoxy guanosine formation (oxidative DNA damage) rather than UVB-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine (CPD) formation. This might be due to its ability to prevent UVB-induced ROS formation and to restore the oxidative imbalance of cells. This has been reflected in UVB-induced overexpression of MAPK and NF-κB signaling. We observed that linalool inhibited UVB-induced phosphorylation of ERK1, JNK and p38 proteins of MAPK family. Linalool inhibited UVB-induced activation of NF-κB/p65 by activating IκBa. We further observed that UVB-induced expression of TNF-α, IL6, IL-10, MMP-2 and MMP-9 was modulated by linalool treatment in HDFa cells. Thus, linalool protects the human skin cells from the oxidative damages of UVB radiation and modulates MAPK and NF-κB signaling in HDFa cells. The present findings substantiate that linalool may act as a photoprotective agent against UVB-induced skin damages.
