An exact result for the reduced density matrix on a finite interval for a $1+1$ dimensional free real scalar field in the ground state is presented. In the massless case, the Williamson decomposition of the appearing kernels is explicitly performed, which allows to reproduce the known result for the entanglement (modular) Hamiltonian and, for a small mass $M$ of the field, find the leading $\sim1/\ln M$ non-local corrections. In the opposite $M\to\infty$ case, it is argued that, up to terms $O(M^{-1/2})$, the entanglement Hamiltonian is local with the density being the Hamiltonian density spatially modulated by a triangular-shape function., Comment: 30 pages

Dense lattices of photonic crystals can serve as artificial materials, with light propagation in these structures described by effective material parameters that surpass the capabilities of natural materials. In this study, we introduce a metamaterial that supports quadrupole magnetization, a characteristic rarely observed in existing structures. We experimentally demonstrate a magnetic quadrupole metamaterial associated with Mie-resonance-excited stop bands below the Bragg band. Additionally, we develop a theoretical model that addresses both dispersion and boundary conditions within this framework. Using a Fabry-Perot resonator as a case study, we validate our model and reveal that the quadrupole metamaterial can exhibit a markedly different reflection/transmission spectrum, including zero reflection at normal incidence. Our findings underscore the practical potential for both experimental and theoretical investigations of metamaterials that extend beyond the dipole approximation.

Eutectics of Sapphire/Yttrium-Aluminum garnet and Ce-doped Sapphire/Yttrium-Aluminum garnet (Ce up to 1 at.%) with a Chinese script microstructure were obtained by the method of horizontal directional crystallization in a carbon-containing reducing atmosphere based on argon gas. The effects of the pooling rate and Ce-dopant concentration on the microstructure of the eutectic were studied by the modified chord method. The deviation of the dependence of the characteristic eutectic distance on the pooling rate from the Jackson-Hunt model has been established. A change in the pathway for restructuring the structure of the doped eutectic at a certain critical pooling rate was revealed, which may indicate that the development of morphological instability of the crystallization front is carried out as a two-stage process. The conditions for obtaining doped eutectic of high homogeneity have been established. It was shown that increasing cerium ion concentration causes an increase in the structure parameters and its value deviation. The magnetised near detector (ND280) of the T2K long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment has been recently upgraded aiming to satisfy the requirement of reducing the systematic uncertainty from measuring the neutrinonucleus interaction cross section, which is the largest systematic uncertainty in the search for leptonic charge-parity symmetry violation. A key component of the upgrade is SuperFGD, a 3D segmented plastic scintillator detector made of approximately 2,000,000 optically-isolated 1 cm3 cubes. It will provide a 3D image of GeV neutrino interactions by combining tracking and stopping power measurements of final state particles with sub-nanosecond time resolution. The performance of SuperFGD is characterized by the precision of its response to charged particles as well as the systematic effects that might affect the physics measurements. Hence, a detailed Geant4 based optical simulation of the SuperFGD building block, i.e. a plastic scintillating cube read out by three wavelength shifting fibers, has been developed and validated with the different datasets collected in various beam tests. Interband Cascade Lasers (ICLs) are semiconductor lasers emitting in the mid-wave infrared (MWIR 3-6 {\mu}m) and can operate as frequency combs (FCs). These demonstrations are based on double section cavities that can reduce dispersion and/or are adapted for radio-frequency operation. Here we show that ICLs FCs at long wavelengths, where the refractive index dispersion reduces, can be realized in a single long section cavity. We show FC generation for ICLs operating at {\lambda} ~ 4.2 {\mu}m, demonstrating narrow electrical beatnotes over a large current range. We also reconstruct the ultrafast temporal response through a modified SWIFT spectroscopy setup with two fast MWIR detectors, which shows a frequency modulated response in free-running operation. Further, we show that, through active modelocking, the ICL can be forced to generate short pulses on the order of 3 ps. This temporal response is in agreement with Maxwell Bloch simulations, highlighting that these devices possess long dynamics (~100ps) and potentially makes them appropriate for the generation of large peak powers in the MWIR., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures

The current observational tensions in the standard cosmological model have reinforced the research on dynamical dark energy, in particular on models with non-gravitational interaction between the dark components. Late-time observables like type Ia supernovas (SNe Ia) and large-scale structures (LSS) point to an energy flux from dark energy to dark matter, while the anisotropy spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) points to a small flux from dark matter to dark energy, fully consistent with no interaction at all. As background and visible matter tests are insensitive to the suppression/enhancement in the dark matter power spectrum, which is a characteristic of interacting models, while the CMB spectrum is strongly affected by it, this could be the origin of those results. In order to confirm it and at the same time to rule out the role of possible systematics between early and late-time observations, the use of a low redshift observable sensitive to the gravitational potential generated by dark matter is crucial. In the present paper, we investigate the observational viability of a class of interacting dark energy models, namely with energy exchange between vacuum-type and dust components, in the light of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) observations of galaxy weak lensing, in the context of a spatially-flat Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker spacetime. The best fit of our analysis is compatible with null interaction, with a weak preference for an energy flux from dark matter to dark energy, confirming the CMB based constraints., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

We consider a multilayered metamaterial composed of anisotropic layers with in-plane anisotropy axes periodically rotated with respect to each other. Due to the breaking of inversion symmetry, the structure develops an effective chirality. We derive the effective chirality tensor of the metamaterial describing both normal and oblique incidence scenarios. In the initial stages of ITER operation, ELM mitigation systems need to be commissioned. This requires controlled flat-top operation in type-I ELMy H-mode regimes. Hydrogen or helium plasma discharges are used exclusively in these stages to ensure negligible production of neutrons from fusion reactions. With the expected higher L-H power threshold of hydrogen and helium plasmas compared to corresponding D and D/T plasmas, it is uncertain whether available auxiliary power systems are sufficient to operate in stable type-I ELMy H-mode. This has been investigated using integrated core and edge/SOL/divertor modelling with JINTRAC. Assuming that the L-H power threshold is well captured by the Martin08 scaling law, the presented simulations have found that 30 MW of ECRH power is likely required for the investigated hydrogen plasma scenarios, rather than the originally planned 20 MW in the 2016 Staged Approach ITER Baseline. However, past experiments have shown that a small helium fraction (~10 %) can considerably reduce the hydrogen plasma L-H power threshold. Assuming that these results extrapolate to ITER operation regimes, the 7.5MA/2.65T hydrogen plasma scenario is likely to access stable type-I ELMy H-mode operation also at 20 MW of ECRH., Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures

Polymer models have been used to describe non-singular quantum black holes, where the classical singularity is replaced by a transition from a black hole to a white hole. In a previous letter, in the context of a uni-parametric model with asymptotic flat exterior metric, we fixed the radius of the transition surface through the identification of its area with the area gap of Loop Quantum Gravity. This revealed a dependence of the polymerisation parameter on the black hole mass, where the former increases as the latter decreases, and it also enabled the extension of the model to Planck-scale black holes. We have identified the existence of limiting states with masses $m \geq \sqrt{2}/4$ and zero surface gravity, showing that Hawking evaporation asymptotically leads to remnant black holes of Planck size. In the present paper we consider solutions with $m < \sqrt{2}/4$, observing again the presence of a minimal radius, but without formation of horizons. The evolution of the entanglement measure during Compton scattering is studied. Our analytical results show that the corresponding measure coincides with the concurrence of the two-qubit state arising after scattering. The state never collapses to a separable one, contrary to what was previously assumed. The behavior of quantum entanglement during scattering is identical to the behavior of initially classically correlated photons up to a constant factor equal to two. This is consistent with local quantum field theory, and "spooky action at a distance" is not required to explain the change in state of nonlocally entangled qubits during the measurement of one of them. We calculate the cross sections of associated $J/\psi + \psi^\prime$ and $J/\psi + J/\psi$ production in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt s = 13$ TeV in the forward kinematic region. The High Energy Factorization ($k_T$-factorization) framework supplemented with the Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini evolution of gluon densities in a proton is applied. We demonstrate that latest data on $J/\psi + J/\psi$ production and first experimental data on $J/\psi + \psi^\prime$ events taken very recently by the LHCb Collaboration can be described well by the color singlet terms and contributions from the double parton scattering (DPS) with the standard choice for $\sigma_{\rm eff}$ parameter. The relative production rate $\sigma(J/\psi + \psi^\prime)/\sigma(J/\psi + J/\psi)$ is found to be sensitive to the DPS terms as well as to feeddown contributions.

We consider the processes $g\to W{+}\,q'$ and $q\to Z{+}\,q$ and derive the respective splitting functions as functions of two kinematic variables: the longitudinal momentum fraction $z$ and transverse momentum $p_T$ of the produced bosons with respect to the parent quark. We take into account kinematic (phase space) restrictions connected with nonzero masses of the gauge bosons and with limited initial energy. We separately consider three different polarization states of the bosons.

The possibility of using axial spin color centers with $S=3/2$, oriented along the hexagonal $c$ axis in a silicon carbide (SiC) wafer, has been demonstrated for all-optical measurement of projection of the external magnetic field coinciding with the $c$ axis of the crystal, and the polar and azimuthal angles of the external measured magnetic field at room and significantly higher temperatures. A distinctive feature of spin centers in SiC, in which optically induced spin alignment is carried out, is the presence of a unique system of spin levels in a magnetic field, caused by fine structure interaction and hyperfine interaction with the $^{29}$Si nuclei and there is a wide range of level anticrossings (LACs), leading to an exceptionally strong change in photoluminescence in the region of LAC and the dependence of the LAC spectrum on the orientation of the external measured magnetic field, which made it possible to develop the all-optical vector magnetometry method. Such measurements do not require microwave radiation, it is possible to use single spin center for the all-optical vector magnetometry. The proposed magnetometer is based on an external magnetic field cancellation scheme, which leads to a LAC spectrum observed in a zero external magnetic field, called its reference spectrum, by maintaining a local region of zero magnetic field at the site of optical excitation of spin centers. 4H-SiC plate is placed on the scanning stage of a confocal microscope inside the Helmholtz coils. Sensitivity to a constant magnetic field for $z$ component of the magnetic field ${B}_{z}$ is better than $0.1\mu$T$/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ in a volume of $1\times10^{-8}$mm$^{3}$ at room temperature. The sensitivity of determining the angles polar and azimuthal is determined by the sensitivity to determining the perpendicular component of the magnetic field, which is better than $5~\mu$T$/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$.

Periodic optical structures, such as diffraction grating and numerous photonic crystals, are one of the staples of modern nanophotonics for the manipulation of electromagnetic radiation. The array of subwavelength dielectric rods is one of the simplest platforms, which, despite its simplicity exhibits extraordinary wave phenomena, such as diffraction anomalies and narrow reflective resonances. Despite the well-documented properties of infinite periodic systems, the behavior of these diffractive effects in systems incorporating a finite number of elements is studied to a far lesser extent. Here we study theoretically and numerically the evolution of collective spectral features in finite arrays of dielectric rods. We develop an analytical model of light scattering by a finite array of circular rods based on the coupled dipoles approximation and analyze the spectral features of finite arrays within the developed model. Finally, we validate the results of the analytical model using full-wave numerical simulations.

One of the most important tools available to limit the spread and impact of infectious diseases is vaccination. It is therefore important to understand what factors determine people's vaccination decisions. To this end, previous behavioural research made use of, (i) controlled but often abstract or hypothetical studies (e.g., vignettes) or, (ii) realistic but typically less flexible studies that make it difficult to understand individual decision processes (e.g., clinical trials). Combining the best of these approaches, we propose integrating real-world Bluetooth contacts via smartphones in several rounds of a game scenario, as a novel methodology to study vaccination decisions and disease spread. In our 12-week proof-of-concept study conducted with $N$ = 494 students, we found that participants strongly responded to some of the information provided to them during or after each decision round, particularly those related to their individual health outcomes. In contrast, information related to others' decisions and outcomes (e.g., the number of vaccinated or infected individuals) appeared to be less important. We discuss the potential of this novel method and point to fruitful areas for future research.

We present details on a new measurement of the muon magnetic anomaly, $a_\mu = (g_\mu -2)/2$. The result is based on positive muon data taken at Fermilab's Muon Campus during the 2019 and 2020 accelerator runs. The measurement uses $3.1$ GeV$/c$ polarized muons stored in a $7.1$-m-radius storage ring with a $1.45$ T uniform magnetic field. The value of $ a_{\mu}$ is determined from the measured difference between the muon spin precession frequency and its cyclotron frequency. This difference is normalized to the strength of the magnetic field, measured using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The ratio is then corrected for small contributions from beam motion, beam dispersion, and transient magnetic fields. We measure $a_\mu = 116 592 057 (25) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.21 ppm). This is the world's most precise measurement of this quantity and represents a factor of $2.2$ improvement over our previous result based on the 2018 dataset. In combination, the two datasets yield $a_\mu(\text{FNAL}) = 116 592 055 (24) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.20 ppm). Understanding the nature of the photoexcitation and ultrafast charge dynamics pathways in organic halide perovskite nanocubes and their aggregation into superlattices is key for the potential applications as tunable light emitters, photon harvesting materials and light-amplification systems. In this work, we apply two-dimensional coherent electronic spectroscopy (2DES) to track in real time the formation of near-infrared optical excitons and their ultrafast relaxation in CH(NH2)2PbI3 nanocube superlattices. Our results unveil that the coherent ultrafast dynamics is limited by the combination of the inherent short exciton decay time ~40 fs and the dephasing due to the coupling with selective optical phonon modes at higher temperatures. On the picosecond timescale, we observe the progressive formation of long-lived localized trap states. The analysis of the temperature dependence of the excitonic intrinsic linewidth, as extracted by the anti-diagonal components of the 2D spectra, unveils a dramatic change of the excitonic coherence time across the cubic to tetragonal structural transition. Our results offer a new way to control and enhance the ultrafast coherent dynamics of photocarrier generation in hybrid halide perovskite synthetic solids.
