Genetic algorithm model, which examine future forecasts of energy consumption in Turkey, is proposed.

The aim of this study is to determine the optimum heat insulation thickness for the glasswool and rockwool insulation material. Since natural gas is mostly used for heating in Turkey, it has been selected as fuel for the calculation. In order to calculate the optimum thickness of the insulation, the number of the degree-day and total environmental factor have been used. For the optimum insulation thickness, the decrease in exergy loss, CO2 emission and the fuel consumption were 75%, 73%, and 71% for the glasswool, respectively. On the other hand, for the rockwool, they were 35%, 18%, and 43%, respectively. Optimum thickness was calculated as 0.40 m for glasswool, and 0.18 for the rockwool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vacuum cooling technology is a proven technology widely applied on precooling of leafy vegetables, mushrooms, baked goods, fish, sauces, cooked foods, and particulate foods. Vacuum cooling is known as a rapid evaporative cooling technique for moist and porous products. Vacuum cooling has some advantages, such as shortened processing time, extended product shelf life, and improved product quality and safety. The aim of this paper is to apply the vacuum cooling technique to the cooling of purslane and show the pressure effect (for 0.7 kPa, 1 kPa, 1.5 kPa) on the cooling time and temperature decrease. Another purpose of this article is to compare conventional cooling (cooling by refrigerator) with vacuum cooling. In this study, exergy analysis of a photovoltaic-hydrogen production system established at the Clean Energy Center (CEC), in Denizli, Turkey has been investigated. Exergy analysis for photovoltaic systems is necessary for studying the PV performance and possible improvements. The exergy efficiency comparison of the fixed tilt (45 south) and mounted on solar trackers photovoltaic modules, is calculated here by the experimental datas taken from the system located in the CEC in Denizli, Turkey, at 37°46' North latitude and 29°05' East longitude. The experiments were carried out from 08:00 am to 18:00 pm, on July 13, 2010. It is seen that exergy efficiency of the fixed tilt PV module vary between 9,3% and 11,2%, while the exergy efficiency of the mounted on solar tracker PV module vary between 9,7% and 11,9%. reserved. This study deals with the estimation of electricity production from hydraulic and thermal sources using the Genetic Algorithm (GA) with time series (TS) approach. Two forms of the mathematical models are developed, of which one is exponential and the second is polynomial. The power form of the Genetic Algorithm-Time Series (GATS) model is used for the thermal electricity production. The polynomial form of the GATS is used for the electricity production from the hydraulic sources. The GATS weighting parameters are obtained by minimizing the Sum of Squared Error (SSE) between observed and estimated electricity production from both sources. Therefore, the fitness function adapted is the minimization of the SSE for use in the GA process. The application of the GATS model is correspondingly presented. Some future scenarios are made to increase the electricity production from hydraulic sources. Variations of the electricity production from thermal and hydraulic energy sources are analyzed. Future prospects of electricity production are dealt with in terms of policy changes. The GATS models are used for making scenarios for future electricity planning policy. Results also show if current trend continues, the thermal electricity production amounts to 75% of the total electricity production, which is undesirable for environmental concerns. The Caspian Sea (CS) region's oil and gas potential has attracted much attention since the breakup of the Soviet Union. The nations in the CS region, namely Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, are already major energy producers, and production will increase with additional investment, technology, and the development of new export outlets. Oil and gas transportation is a crucial and contentious issue in the CS/Central Asia regions. The main objective of the present study is to investigate Turkey's natural gas (NG) pipelines and its role in the CS region. NG consumption has started in 1987 at 0.5 billion cubic meter (Bcm) and reached 16 Bcm in 2001. It is also projected that NG consumption will reach 55 and 82 Bcm annually in 2010 and 2020, respectively.
