- Abstract
ACoulomb-excitation experiment to study electromagnetic properties of Ca-42 was performed using a 170-MeV calcium beam from the TANDEM XPU facility at INFN Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. gamma rays from excited states in Ca-42 were measured with the AGATA spectrometer. The magnitudes and relative signs of ten E2 matrix elements coupling six low-lying states in Ca-42, including the diagonal E2 matrix elements of 2(1)(+) and 2(2)(+) states, were determined using the least-squares code GOSIA. The obtained set of reduced E2 matrix elements was analyzed using the quadrupole sum rule method and yielded overall quadrupole deformation for 0(1),(+)(2) and 2(1,2)(+) states, as well as triaxiality for 0(1,2)(+) states, establishing the coexistence of a weakly deformed ground-state band and highly deformed slightly triaxial sideband in Ca-42. The experimental results were compared with the state-of-the-art large-scale shell-model and beyond-mean-field calculations, which reproduce well the general picture of shape coexistence in Ca-42.

- Abstract
Shape parameters of a weakly deformed ground-state band and highly deformed slightly triaxial sideband in Ca-42 were determined from E2 matrix elements measured in the first low-energy Coulomb excitation experiment performed with AGATA. The picture of two coexisting structures is well reproduced by new state-of-the-art large-scale shell model and beyond-mean-field calculations. Experimental evidence for superdeformation of the band built on 0(2)(+) has been obtained and the role of triaxiality in the A similar to 40 mass region is discussed. Furthermore, the potential of Coulomb excitation as a tool to study superdeformation has been demonstrated for the first time., QC 20160914

- Abstract
In this study several soil samples were collected from the Bykeceli district where Turkeys first nuclear power plant will be built and radioactivity concentrations of Ra-226, Th-232, K-40 and Cs-137 were determined by gamma spectrometry using a high-purity germanium detector. The measured activity concentrations in soil samples ranged from 9.8 0.7 to 258.6 15.8, 11.7 0.9 to 85.6 5.0, 173.8 2.1 to 1949.5 14.7 and 0.4 0.1 to 72.2 2.2 Bq kg(1) for Ra-226, Th-232, K-40 and Cs-137, respectively. Findings are in good agreement with the published results of neighbouring areas. The absorbed gamma dose rate (D) in air and the annual effective dose of soil samples were calculated to be 80.2 nGy h(1) and 98.3 mSv y(1), respectively. The results show that the radiation hazard in the Bykeceli district is insignificant. The data presented in this study would be very useful to determine the future effects of the nuclear power plant to the environment.

- Abstract
The Coulomb excitation experiment to study electromagnetic structure of low-lying states in Ca-42 with a focus on a possible superdeformation in this nucleus was performed at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro in Italy. Preliminary values of the determined quadrupole deformation parameters for both the ground state band and the presumed superdeformed band are presented.

WOS: 000365732300003, The use of bremsstrahlung photons produced by a linac to induce photonuclear reactions is wide spread. However, using a clinical linac to produce the photons is a new concept. We aimed to induce photonuclear reactions on zinc isotopes and measure the subsequent transition energies and half-lives. For this purpose, a bremsstrahlung photon beam of 18 MeV endpoint energy produced by the Philips SLI-25 linac has been used. The subsequent decay has been measured with a well-shielded single HPGe detector. The results obtained for transition energies are in good agreement with the literature data and in many cases surpass these in accuracy. For the half-lives, we are in agreement with the literature data, but do not achieve their precision. The obtained accuracy for the transition energies show what is achievable in an experiment such as ours. We demonstrate the usefulness and benefits of employing clinical linacs for nuclear physics experiments., Akdeniz University Hospital; TUBITAK-MFAG [114F220]; 2216-Foreigner Research program, We would like to thank the Akdeniz University Hospital for their generous support. The project has also received administrative support from the office of the Akdeniz University Rectorate. In addition, the project and its various contributors have been supported in part by TUBITAK-MFAG 114F220 and the 2216-Foreigner Research program. The authors would also like to thank Dr. Deniz Savran for very enlightening discussions regarding our data analysis in respect to half-life determination.

1st NUBA International Conference on Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics -- SEP 14-21, 2014 -- Akdeniz Univ, Antalya, TURKEY, WOS: 000354773900024, The use of a clinical linac in photonuclear experiments is a novel concept. At Akdeniz University a program has been started focused on inducing photonuclear reactions with a Philips SLI-25 clinical linac. A bremsstrahlung photon beam produced by the linac is used to create radioactive nuclei. The decay of said nuclei is observed with a high-purity germanium detector. During the course of the experiment the spectrum of the irradiated sample is recorded. By analyzing the spectrum the energies of gamma-ray transitions in the daughter nuclei as well as the half-life of the parent nucleus are obtained. The results obtained thus far, starting with Zinc nuclei will be presented.
