- Abstract
Preparation of SnO2 particles via hydrothermal synthesis was investigated as a function of cation concentration and treatment time to develop a fundamental understanding on determination of effective formation and growth mechanisms. SnO2 particles were synthesized at pH 9.0 and 200 degrees C from hydrous tin oxide gel. When the initial cation concentration increases from 0.025 to 1.0 M, mechanism of particle formation shifts from Ostwald ripening to classical nucleation theory at critical cation concentration. Accordingly, particle size increases from 2.80 to 3.50 nm. However, particle size decreases from 3.50 to 2.93 nm with further increasing of cation concentration from 0.10 to 1.00 M. It was observed that particle growth mechanism is not a function of cation concentration and it is diffusion controlled. Particle size of the synthesized SnO2 increases from 2.51 to 2.93 nm as the hydrothermal synthesis time increases from 1 to 24 hours for 1.0 M cation containing system.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the clinical performance of a two-step self-etch adhesive with and without additional enamel etching technique to advanced non-carious cervical sclerotic lesions. Methods: Twenty-two patients (mean age = 51.5) having at least two pairs of non-carious cervical erosion/attrition/abfraction lesions with incisal or occlusal margins in enamel and gingival margins in dentine/cementum were included in the study. The two-step self-etch adhesive (AdheSE; Ivoclar-Vivadent) was either applied following the self-etch approach on both enamel and dentine (AdheSE non-etch), or a similar application including additional acid-etching of the enamel cavity margins with 37% phosphoric acid (AdheSE etch). Resin composite Point 4 was used for all 104 restorations. Restorations were evaluated at baseline and at one year according to the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Data were analysed by using McNemar's test (p 0.05). At one year, marginal discolouration was evident in the AdheSE nonetch group but it was not statistically significant from the AdheSE etch group (p = 0.12). Postoperative sensitivity was 5% at baseline and reduced to 2% at one year. Conclusions: At one year, the two-step self-etch adhesive with and without additional enamel etching technique showed excellent clinical results to advanced non-carious cervical sclerotic lesions. © 2010 Australian Dental Association.

We present data from Fermilab experiment E781 (SELEX) on the hadroproduction asymmetry for anti-Lambda_c compared to Lambda_c+ as a function of xF and pt2 distributions for Lambda_c+. These data were measured in the same apparatus using incident pi-, sigma- beams at 600 GeV/c and proton beam at 540 GeV/c. The asymmetry is studied as a function of xF. In the forward hemisphere with xF >= 0.2 both baryon beams exhibit very strong preference for producing charm baryons rather than charm antibaryons, while the pion beam asymmetry is much smaller. In this energy regime the results show that beam fragments play a major role in the kinematics of Lambda_c formation, as suggested by the leading quark picture.

This research was aimed to qualitatively determine grade four and five student ideas about the concept of environment. For this purpose, a hundred subjects were randomly selected among 194 grade four and five students that constitute 27.21% of the population of the school, Hayreddin Pasa Elementary School in Ankara in Turkey. In the selection of that school, the researcher employment in the same school was taken into the consideration for the convenience of the study. A pictorial assessment and a semi-structured interview were employed to explore the students ideas. Two instructional class periods were used for pictorial assessment of the students while class recesses in which students were thought to feel more comfortable were used to interview 30 chosen students. Two rating scales for drawing and interview parts were prepared and used to assess the data. The results show that grade 4 and 5 students have not reached a level of a consistent environmental awareness and that their idea and concept of environment includes living and non-living objects and in their immediate surroundings.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of four flowable composite linings on marginal microleakage and internal voids in Class II composite restorations with the margins above the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Materials and Methods: Class II cavities were randomly divided into 8 groups (n = 10). Group 1: One Step Plus/Aelite LS Packable; group 2: One Step Plus/Aelite Flow/Aelite LS Packable; group 3: Comfort Bond/Solitaire 2; group 4: Comfort Bond/Flowline/Solitaire 2; group 5: Solobond M/Grandio; group 6: Solobond M/Grandio Flow/Grandio; group 7: Admira Bond/Admira; Group 8: Admira bond/Admira Flow/Admira. After restoration, all teeth were stored for 24 h, thermocycled (at 5°C to 55°C) 500 times, and soaked in 0.5% basic fuchsin dye for 24 h. After soaking, the teeth were sectioned and observed under a stereomicroscope. Gingival marginal microleakage and internal voids (at the gingival wall interface and in the cervical and the occlusal parts) were recorded. Data were analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U- and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p < 0.05). Results: Statistical analyses indicated that the use of flowable resin composites provided a reduction in microleakage in groups 6 and 8. Groups 2 and 4 showed fewer voids in the cervical area than without flowable composites. Conclusion: It was concluded that none of the materials tested was able to eliminate the marginal microleakage on the cervical wall. Flowable resin composites under nanohybrid (group 6) and ormocer (group 8) composites provided a significantly different reduction in microleakage compared to restorations without flowable liners. Fewer cervia voids were observed in packable composites with flowable liner (groups 2 and 4) than without flowable liner (groups 1 and 3s).

Geography ,Teacher education ,Prospective teachers ,Sustainable development ,ComputingMilieux_COMPUTERSANDEDUCATION - Abstract
Today, sustainable development (SD) is an important topic on the worlds agenda guided by aspirations for sustainable future of societies, environments, resources and landscapes. Sustainable development was introduced into geography education in Turkey with the new geography curriculum in 2005. However, it has traditionally been a largely omitted topic in the Turkish educational context including pre-service teacher education programmes. Since geography prospective teachers will be responsible for teaching sustainable development under the new curriculum, it is important to find out their perceptions and what they have been given through pre-service programs concerning sustainable development. Through a questionnaire, this research explored the perceptions of geography prospective teachers and their pre-service experiences concerning sustainable development. The data were collected in 6 geography teacher education programmes (that is the total number of programmes in Turkey) with 122 final year geography prospective teachers. According to the findings, a relatively high number of respondents (30%) seemed to be unaware of the concept of sustainable development. As for the pre-service programmes, which covered a wide range of interrelated issues and dimensions of sustainable development concerns, the data indicate that they are not sufficiently covered in a balanced manner. Additional findings are also presented in details in this paper.

As such, there were many predictions of the masses and other properties of these states. The properties of doubly charmed baryons provide a new window into the structure of baryonic matter. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2002-09-01 Pion virtual compton scattering (VCS) via the reaction π-e→π-eγ was observed in the Fermilab E781 SELEX experiment. SELEX used a 600 GeV/c π- beam incident on target atomic electrons, detecting the incident π- and the final state π-, electron and γ. Theoretical predictions based on chiral perturbation theory are incorporated into a Monte Carlo simulation of the experiment and are compared to the data. The number of reconstructed events (=9) and their distribution with respect to the kinematic variables (for the kinematic region studied) are in reasonable accord with the predictions. The corresponding π- VCS experimental cross section is σ=38.8±13 nb, in agreement with the theoretical expectation of σ=34.7 nb. Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:56:01Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2000-07-17 Total cross sections for Σ- and π- on beryllium, carbon, polyethylene and copper as well as total cross sections for protons on beryllium and carbon have been measured in a broad momentum range around 600GeV/c . These measurements were performed with a transmission technique in the SELEX hyperon-beam experiment at Fermilab. We report on results obtained for hadron-nucleus cross sections and on results for σtot(Σ-N) and σtot(π-N) , which were deduced from nuclear cross sections. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. - Abstract
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:53:25Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2000-01-01 We report the first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed charm baryon decay Ξ+c→pK- π+. We observe 150±22±5 events for the signal. The data were accumulated using the SELEX spectrometer during the 1996-1997 fixed target run at Fermilab, chiefly from a 600GeV/c Σ- beam. The branching fractions of the decay relative to the Cabibbo-favored Ξ+c→Σ+K-π+ and Ξ+c→Ξ-π+π+ are measured to be B(Ξ+c→pK-π+)/B(Ξ+c→Σ+K-π+)=0.22±0.06±0.03 and B(Ξ+c→pK-π+)/B(Ξ+c→Ξ-π+π+)=0.20±0.04±0.02, respectively. © 2000 The American Physical Society.
