Research was conducted to examine the diffusivity of excess carriers in InGaN multiple quantum wells by near-field optical imaging of photoluminescence profiles created with spatially inhomogeneous photoexcitation, complemented by spatially integrated time-resolved calculations. Results suggest that microstructural details associated with indium compositional clustering are to some extent unpredictable and acquire an element of randomness in the epitaxial growth.

The reaction of 1-alkenes with C2D5MgBr in the presence of TaCl5 has been studied. Basing on the distribution of the deuterium label in the alkyl chain of the regioisomeric organomagnesium compounds, a tentative mechanism of their formation as key intermediates of 3-substituted tantalocyclopentanes has been proposed. 6-Methyluracil derivatives containing a gem-dichlorocyclopropane and a 1,3-dioxolane fragments were synthesized for the first time. The condensation of 6-methyluracil with chloromethyl derivatives gives a mixture of N- and N-monosubstituted products, and the profound N-alkylation of this compound provides disubstituted uracils. The structure of the synthesized compounds was studied by H and С NMR spectroscopy and their relative antioxidant activity was evaluated by luminol-dependent chemiluminescence measurements. The use of optimised CT protocols regarding radiation exposure is a legal requirement. Since low contrast visibility is intrinsically varying within the CT slice, there is no adequate method for optimisation of dose and image quality. We developed a method to access image quality in a way that represents the situation closer to a real patient. This method is based on a novel difference detail curve (DDC) phantom with low contrast objects representing native tissue contrast and contrast media with different densities and diameters. The position of the contrast objects have been evaluated by a noise level analysis of CT slices of different manufactures. The dose – length – product can be measured within the phantom simultaneously. For all tested manu-factures and CT protocols, the noise analysis revealed a similar spatial variation of the signal -to-noise ratio (SNR). For the DDC method, contrast steps of 6 (4-8) Hounsfield Units (HU) are adequate. For the different CT units, comparable low contrast detectability is associated with remarkably varying dose levels (CTDI range from 8 to 18 mGy for native contrast and 9-16 mGy for contrast media). The novel DDC phantom is sensitive to protocol optimisations and therefore suitable for rating subtle effects caused by protocol optimisation.

Güney Marmara Bölgesi’nin (Susurluk drenaj havzası-SDH) suları ve tortulları büyük ölçüde önce Manyas ve Ulubat göllerinde toplanır, sonra tek kanaldan Marmara Denizi’ne ulaşır.Mevcut akaçlama sistemi ile buradaki gözlem istasyonları SDH’ndaki aşınma hızını ve dolayısıyla buradaki büyük ölçekli vadilerin kazınma sürelerini araştırma olanağı vermektedir. Bu yönde veri elde etmek için, Ulubat Gölü’nün eski tortulları ve bunların kimyasal kapsamları sondajlar yardımıyla çalışılmıştır. Karotlarla kesilen göl tortulları içindeki bor iyonu alttan üste doğru 4 m seviyesinde aniden artmakta olup bu değişme Emet Vadisi’ndeki borat yataklarının aşınmaya başlamasıyla ortaya çıkmıştır. Aşınma-depolanma ilişkileri dikkate alınarak Emet Vadisi’ndeki deşilme hızı 1,4 cm/yıl, bu değerin tüm araziye uygulanmasıyla vadinin toplam kazılma süresi 75 bin yıl olarak hesaplanmaktadır. Jeolojik süreçlerin tekdüze olmadığı dikkate alınarak, bu yaşın mutlak olmayacağı, ancak mevcut taşınma ve depolanma hızlarına göre vadilerin kazılma süresinin 300 bin yıldan daha da geriye gitmeyeceği söylenebilir. Öyle anlaşılıyor ki, hızlı aşınmanın önemli nedenlerinden birisi Marmara Denizi’nin son Buzul Çağında göl halinde oluşudur. Alçak taban düzeyi, kaynak alan ile birikim yeri arasında belirgin yükseklik farkı yaratmış ve erozyonun hızlanmasına yol açmıştır..

Kocasu ve Gönen çayı güney Marmara bölgesinin iki büyük akarsuyu olup birbirinden 80 km aralıkla denize ulaşırlar. Bo- şalttıkları su ve taşıdıkları tortul yükün önemli miktarı, yörede yarı kurak iklim şartlarının egemen olması dolayısıyla yağışlı kış aylarında gözlenmektedir. Bu iki akarsu, taşdıkları tortul yüke uygun olarak, morfolojik bakımdan farklılık gösteren ayrı delta sistemleri oluşturmuşlardır. Gönen çayı deltası 5.5 km kadar ilerlemesi ve toplam 28 km2 su dışı düzlüğü olan lobsu akarsu egemen bir tortul birikimidir. Menderesli dağıtım kanalları ve bir çok ufak lagün gölü delta düzlüğünün asıl elemanlarıdır. Taşınan kı- rıntılıların büyük oranda yatak yükü olması sebebiyle üçgensi delta düzlüğü gelişmekte ve günümüzde hafifçe doğuya doğru ilerlemektedir. Su dışı delta düzlüğü, 6 m kotunun teşkil ettiği basamakvari bir topografya ile ikiye bölünmüştür. DSi ce delta düzlü- ğünün karaya yakın tarafında yapılan sondajlarda 65 m tortul kesilmiştir. Delta düzlüğünün tortullarının kalınlığı ise 6 m civarındadır. Kocasu deltası bozucu-yıkıcı süreçlerin belirgin olduğu, çamur egemen, basık, uzunlamasına bir tortul birikimidir. Toplam 3,5 km ilerlemesi, 48 km2 su dışı düzlüğü olan dalga kontrollü bir deltadır. Delta üzerinde dağılım kanalı yoktur ve düz uzanımlı tek ana kanal ile oluşturulmaktadır. Deltanın oldukça fazla olan yanal büyümesi, yörede baskın olan kuzeydoğu rüzgârlarının oluşturduğu dalgalar ile sağlanmaktadır. Güncel delta düzlüğünde akarsu çökelleri çok az veya yoktur, iki lagün gölü, bataklıklar, bataklık kum sırtları, kumullar ve uzun kumlu plaj deltanın görünen elemanlarıdır. 4 m kotu, Gönen çayı deltasında olduğu gibi delta düzlüğünü, göreceli eski ve yeni olarak iki kısma ayırır. Deltanın toplam kalınlığının grafik hesaplama ve karşılaştırmalarla 55-60 m kadar olduğu tahmin edilmektedir. Her iki delta kara yönünde aktif sağ yanal, doğrultu atımlı faylara yaslanmıştır. Depolanma sahaları da denize kadar inen temel kayaları ile sınırlıdır. Bilhassa Kocasu deltasında bu sınırlanmalar çok keskindir. Drenaj alanının morfolojisi, Kocasu ve Gönen çayı deltalarının eş yaşta oluştuklarını ve muhtemelen erken Holosen'de ilerlemeğe başladıklarını göstermektedir. Delta düzlüklerindeki basamaklı durum, denizin bugünkü düzeyine, son klimatik optimumda ulaştığının belirteci olabilir. Daha sonraki küçük ve lokal deniz seviyesi değişmeleri, Kocasu deltasında uzun bataklık kum sırtlarının varlığı ile kendisini gösterir. Bu lokal değişmeler deltanın üzerine yaslandığı fayın tesiriyle olabilir. Güncel deniz seviyesi son bin yıldır durağanlık dönemindedir.

A patient who had undergone gastric resection for carcinoma, had closed loop obstruction of the duodenum due to neoplasia at the duodenojejunal junction. The obstruction was relieved successfully by transhepatic placement of a duodenojejunal stent. We were compelled to use the transhepatic route because a Roux-Y reconstruction had been performed. Transhepatic placement may be the only chance of palliation in a small subset of patients with malignant intestinal obstruction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate surface defects of Remover rotary Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) files after single and multiple uses in conventional endodontic retreatment procedures using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Eighty acrylic blocks, simulating root canals with a 1.5 mm internal diameter, a 5 mm radius of curvature, and a 55° curvature, were utilized. After chemomechanical preparation and obturation, 24 new Remover files (N30, 7%, L23) were randomly assigned to three groups: single use, triple use, and six uses. The files were operated at 600 rpm with a torque of 2.5 Ncm, cleaned, and sterilized after each use. SEM analysis at magnifications of 100x, 250x, and 500x revealed surface defects, including tip deformation, microcracks, fracture, unwinding, surface pitting, and blade disruption. Deformation was observed in 75% of the files after a single use and in 100% of the files after three and six uses. Microcracks were absent after single use but appeared in 25% and 87.5% of files after three and six uses, respectively, showing a statistically significant increase (p < 0.001). Surface pitting also significantly increased among groups (p = 0.004). No fractures were observed in any group. The most common defects were tip deformation (91.7%) and surface pitting (70.8%). The findings suggest that repeated use of NiTi files significantly increases surface defects, elevating the risk of fatigue fractures. Thus, the results recommend limiting the reuse of Remover files to a maximum of 3x. Further research is needed to correlate defect types with anatomical factors and to assess file effectiveness in retreatment scenarios.
