The purpose of the present study was to examine direct and indirect relations among social problem-solving, depression, and aggression, as well as the mediating role of depression in the link between social problem-solving and aggression among Turkish youth. Data for the present study were collected from 413 adolescents. The participants' age ranged from 14 to 17 with a mean of 15.74 years (SD = 0.97). Results indicated that social problem-solving was significantly and negatively associated with both depression and aggression. Also, depression significantly and positively associated with aggression and depression appears to act as a mediator in the relationship between social problem-solving and aggression. Findings suggest that social problem-solving and depression are important factors in understanding aggression among Turkish youth.

The present study examined the direct and indirect relationships between parenting processes (parental closeness, parental monitoring, and parental peer approval), low self-control, and aggression. Participants were 546 adolescents aged 14-18 attending state high schools in Turkey. Participants completed a questionnaire that included measures of parenting processes, self-control, and aggression. Findings provided evidence of both direct and indirect effects of maternal and paternal parenting processes on aggression through low self-control. Specifically, results showed that maternal closeness, paternal peer approval and both maternal and paternal monitoring were positively and directly related to low self-control, and indirectly related to aggression through low self-control. Together, parenting processes and low self-control explained 21% of the variance in aggression. Implications for self-control theory and directions for future research are discussed. Purpose: The present study examined the direct and indirect relationships between parent-adolescent conflict, self-esteem, and depression symptoms. Method: Participants were 338 (150 male, 188 female) adolescents aged between 14-18 attending public high schools. Participants completed a questionnaire that included measures of parent-adolescent conflict, self-esteem, and depression symptoms. Results: Findings provided evidence of direct effects of parent-adolescent conflict on depression symptoms and indirect effects of mother adolescent conflict on depression symptoms through self-esteem. Specifically, results indicated that mother adolescent conflict were positively and directly related to self-esteem, and indirectly related to depression through self-esteem. Parent-adolescent conflict explained 8% of the variance and together parent-adolescent conflict and self-esteem explained 26% of the variance in depression symptoms. Conclusion: Findings of the present study provided evidence for the negative affect of parent-adolescent conflict on adolescents' mental health.
