Amaç: Çalışmamızda yoğun bakım ünitesinde yatan yaşlı hastalarda ortaya çıkan Acinetobacterbaumannii enfeksiyonunun sıklığını ve mortalite üzerine olan etkisini göstermeyi amaçladık. Gereç ve yöntem: Çalışma retrospektif olarak 2013-2014 tarihleri arasında medikal yoğun bakım ünitelerinde 48 saatten uzun süre yatan ≥65 yaş üstü hastalar ile yapılmıştır. A. baumannii enfeksiyonu olan ve olmayan hastalar risk faktörleri açısından karşılaştırılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmada yaş ortalaması 77.1±6.9 olan 104 hasta değerlendirildi. A. baumannii enfeksiyonu olan hastalarda en sık hastane enfeksiyonu ventilatör ilişkili pnömoni (%62.5) olarak bulunmuştur. En sık uygulanan invaziv girişim üriner katater olarak tespit edilmiştir (%99). Uygulanan invaziv girişimlerin hepsi A. baumannii için risk faktörü olmakla birlikte mekanik ventilasyon bağımsız risk faktörü olarak saptanmıştır (p=0.001). Mortalite ise A. baumannii enfeksiyonu olanlarda olmayanlara göre anlamlı olarak yüksek bulunmuştur (p=0.026). Sonuç: Yaşlı hastalarda hastane kaynaklı A. baumannii enfeksiyonu mortaliteyi artırmaktadır (p, Purpose: In this study we aimed to investigate the incidence and effect of Acinetobacter baumannii infection on mortality in elderly patients admitted to intensive care unit. Materials and methods:We retrospectively investigated the medical records of elderly patients (>65 years) treated for more than 48 hours in our intensive care unit between 2013-2014. Amaç: Bu çalışmada nazion sınır olarak kullanılarak koronal sütür lokalizasyonu tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Nazion-koronal sütür arası mesafe bildiğimiz kadarı ile Türk toplumunda ilk defa bu çalışma ile literatüre sunulmaktadır. Yöntemler: Bu çalışmada 30 kranium ve 30 frontal kemik kullanılmıştır. Her bir kafatasında mezuro yardımı ile nazal sütürden koronal sütüre olan mesafe ölçülmüştür. Sonuçlar: Nazal sütür-koronal sütür arası mesafe 12,2 cm (minimum 10,3-maksimum 13,5 cm) olarak tespit edildi. Tartışma: Nazion cilt üzerinden kolayca palpe edilebilen bir işaret noktasıdır. Naziondan 12 cm posteriorda orta hattan 3 cm lateralde yapılacak küçük bir cilt insizyonu ile drenaj noktası kolayca tespit edilebilir. Bu bilgi beyin cerrahları için her zaman kullanabilecekleri pratik bir bilgi olarak literatüre sunulmaktadır., Objective: In this study we aimed to determine a landmark that can be measured through the skin with nasal mid-point (bregma) to coronal suture, and additionally an average value was calculated. We report, to our knowledge, the distance between the nasion-coronal sutures is reported for the first time in Turkish population. Methods: The study included 30 craniums and 30 frontal bones. Each skull from midline nasal suture to coronal suture curved up at the distance was measured with tape measure. Results: Mean values were determined. Nasal suture between coronal suture distance average 12,2 cm (min10,3 cm, up to 13,5 cm) were detected. Conclusion: Nasal suture is an easily palpable area through the skin. A small incision is carried down through skin to bone at the spot 12 cm back from the nasion 3 cm lateral to the midline for ventricular drainage operation. To determine the frequency of Pap smear testing among women and to evaluate their level of knowledge about the test and other relevant factors.The study comprised women who presented to the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Polyclinic of Sakarya Training and Research Hospital, Turkey, between April 1 and 30, 2012. The questionnaire was developed in line with the objectives of the study. They were filled by the participants who were supervised during the process. Women who had had at least one Pap smear test in life were considered to have taken a Pap smear test'", and those who had heard of the test were accepted as women who "knew of the Pap smear test". Data was analysed using SPSS 15.0. Chi-square test was used for analyses, and statistical significance was set at p0.05.The age of 601 subjects ranged between 15 and 64 years, with a mean of 31.09+/-10.49 years. Of the total, 115 (19.1%) had taken a Pap smear test before and 293 (48.8%) knew of the test.The proportion of the women who had had a Pap smear test was higher among those who were over 30 years of age (n=73; 63.47%), had post-high school educational degrees (n=68; 59.13%), had moderate familial income status (n=74; 64.34%), were married (n=109; 94.78%), had first sexual experience after 25 years of age(n=42; 36.52%), and were not using a contraceptive method (n=97; 84.34%) (p0.05 for each). Besides, more women with previous knowledge of the test had taken the test (p0.05).The subjects did not have sufficient information on Pap smear and the frequency of having a test was low. Raising awareness would prove beneficial.

Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the relationship between genital hygiene practices and genital infection in a group of university students. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive study conducted with female students residing in Sakarya State Student Dormitory between the 1st of February and 30th of May 2011. State student dormitory of Sakarya city accommodate students who attend Sakarya University. 1653 students reside in this state student dormitory and 1057 (63.94%) of these who were willing to participate constituted the study group. Then interview forms, developed in line with the study purpose, were completed by the students who were supervised during the process. Familial income was graded as poor, moderate or good according to student’s perception. Obtained data were analyzed on computers with the SPSS statistics package software (version 15.0) and chi-square (χ2) test was used for analyses. Results: History of genital infection was identified in 13.0%. Hosiery/cotton underwear was preferred by 93.4% of the students and 38.1% favoured white-coloured underwear. Of the students, 47.2% changed underwear daily and 71.2% used daily pads. “Front to rear” genital cleaning was favoured by 67.8%, 97.6% used “pads” during menstrual periods, 54.1% changed pads 6 times or more a day and 57.3% used “perfumes” for undesirable scent. No relationship was noted between the frequency of genital infections and the departments the students were studying, their years at school, age groups and mothers’ level of education (p>0.05). Likewise, the frequency of genital infections was not significantly related to how frequent the students changed their underwear or how many times they replaced the materials daily during the menstrual period in our study group (p>0.05). WOS: 000386954300001, PubMed: 27809934, Background: The aim of this study was to assess health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients in Turkey and to study related factors. Methods: This multicenter study was carried out between January 01 and April 15, 2015 in Turkey in 57 centers. Adults were enrolled and studied in three groups. Group 1: Inactive HBsAg carriers, Group 2: CHB patients receiving antiviral therapy, Group 3: CHB patients who were neither receiving antiviral therapy nor were inactive HBsAg carriers. Study data was collected by face-to-face interviews using a standardized questionnaire, Short Form-36 (SF-36) and Hepatitis B Quality of Life (HBQOL). Values equivalent to p < 0.05 in analyses were accepted as statistically significant. Results: Four thousand two hundred fifty-seven patients with CHB were included in the study. Two thousand five hundred fifty-nine (60.1 %) of the patients were males. Groups 1, 2 and 3, consisted of 1529 (35.9 %), 1721 (40.4 %) and 1007 (23.7 %) patients, respectively. The highest value of HRQOL was found in inactive HBsAg carriers. We found that total HBQOL score increased when antiviral treatment was used. However, HRQOL of CHB patients varied according to their socio-demographic properties. Regarding total HBQOL score, a higher significant level of HRQOL was determined in inactive HBV patients when matched controls with the associated factors were provided. Conclusions: The HRQOL score of CHB patients was higher than expected and it can be worsen when the disease becomes active. Use of an antiviral therapy can contribute to increasing HRQOL of patients.
